Her artwork is known for its delicate depictions of natural subjects such as flowers, butterflies and fish. She was not only a poet and an artist but also the mother of Confucian scholar Lee Yul Gok. She managed to realize her dream of being an artist in a time when women's roles were strictly confined. She was the first woman to appear on a South Korean banknote.
“Saimdang, the Herstory” retells the story of Shin Saimdang’s ingenious art skills and tragic love life. Lee Young Ae will be playing the role of both the art professor from the modern ages and Shin Saimdang. The plot will shift back and forth from the past to the present as the professor tries to discover the mystery behind Saimdang’s diary and a mysterious painting.
