The only drama I had zero expectations for, yet the only one that truly delivered. You don't understand my hopes for Pearl Eclipse, Mirror Twin Cities and Blue Whisper.
Maybe no expectations broke the 2022 drama curse. The war scenes were pretty, the final fight wasn't cheesy. Main couple is well balanced, and no - no really, no weirdo backstabbing second female leads to be found.
I wasn't 'swept away', awestruck or anything, but I wasn't disappointed or underwhelmed.
I'm trying to go into Agarwood with no expectations, but truly? I wan't to be swept away! Romanced, and crying every 5 episodes. I want a complete journey, an oddyssey.
Not getting the subs really ruined the viewing experience. I'm sad it's difficult for us to influence the company, for choosing not to sub in a timely manner. I have faith fan sub groups will not trust the company to sub the next big drama, and be on standby, and not be 'surprised' as they were this time. I mean, we were all surprised. There's a charm to viewing eps weekly, to yearn for subs for a good drama. Our wonderous subteam has pulled together and crafted skillful subs, even when caught so off guard - nobody saw this drama not getting official subs coming! Hats off to the sub team! I will revisit some monologues once it's completed.
I wonder how they can afford these dramas. Do they piggyback off other drama sets filming at the time? It'd make sense to film 2-3 webdramas piggybacking bigger drama sets, save a fortune and put it all into script, editing and directing. Editing is everything, when you tell a story in 10min format.
I feel the kissing is hotter bc it's a webdrama, they suffer no watershed, no decency by such a time of day etc. Webdramas always had better stuff. I remember when Go Princess Go really pushed boundaries.
Sad. Ning Yi does become a good emperor but the love story between him and Zhiwei is tragic.
Too many corpses between them.
History is full of women who loved ruthless men.
She realises she isn't capable of living with all the ghosts between herself and Ning Yi. Her sense of conscience was her strongest character trait, she never compromised on her conscience and as she wasn't a sociopath -in the drama, she is in the book- she took her own life for her own dignity. The act itself wasn't about her love for him, but her final stance on the issue.
No. This is too far, Ning Yi, you'll have to do this alone from here on. There was no leaving, because they'd gravitate towards each other again and again. She had to write the final punctuation to their story.
Wait, qingshu is fox spirit and jiyunhe become fox. Guess is yunhe qingshu and lincanglan's biological daughter?…

I’ve come to refer to this drama as Spicy. It’s been some years now, but you come back to this drama, because the Emperor is one of the best portrayed you’ve seen, and Ning Yi, is one of the best characters ever written. Then you’re fond of Zhiwei because she’s trixy. Like a springy eel. You can’t hold her! You think you’ve got a grip, but you got nothing, bro!
It’s not a common love, it’s demonic, it’s of the Pantheon. It’s the origin saga of the Sun and the Moon-!obviously it’s not, but Chen Kun and NiNi together, could convince me of anything at this point. They have serious THRALL. They don’t have to exchange bodily fluids to get me flustered, I’m 41, mother to a child, I’ve had sex- but this is spicier. Majority of the characters have flounce, sassy is what my kid would say, exceptional acting, this is fact, not opinion. You can read the translated novel, search for it on Google, it’s there on a website, if you’re that pissed off at the end, it’s still satisfactory.
My people, it’s not how it ends, it’s the journey. This is a hecking journey.
For reference, none of it ever ends well. We don’t end well, humans never do. Divorce rate is 50%, your fav characters, half of them fell out of love anyway.
can someone recommend some dramas similar or better than this drama its so good and idk what to watch after this😭
I second Bloody Romance vote, because it’s good but you’ve also never seen anything like it. Best drama for budget, that I’ve ever seen. Another excellent drama is Ancient Detective.
Rise of Phoenixes is a mammoth of a drama, with exceptional leads and overall exceptional acting, not for the faint of heart however. It have one of the best characters ever written, Ning Yi. Chen Kun and Nini became so close, they even live as neighbours these days. One of the most intense duos I’ve seen on screen. In the novel, they’re actually written as sociopaths, intense read. It’s spicy, vindaloo drama. The Emperor, you come to fear the guy, you start bowing when he comes on screen, this has NEVER happened to me before. You also angst over him seeing through you, like you can’t even lie to your dog, if the Emperor is watching you on the tv. You should see Fuyao first, because she’s their great ancestor.

Take me for a ride, drama gods!

Comment under yours has 3eps subbed by fans.
The indomitable Jiaoren.
The subs ruined Mirror Twin Cities, long before the editing.
This drama is better raw, than with terribly nuanced subs.

It does with a BANG, soon.
