it surprises me when a pairing happens again like that!! i wasn't gonna watch either but the good reviews of TRTS were compelling and i loved it!! i wil give this a go too, i'm rooting for this actress now!
Din Yu dramas are often nice, but plotwise not always strong! i think TRTS is one of his best character depiction!

i found that it looks more like story of the pearl girl ( especially early setting) where FL lives a tragedy and ML is a bad boy but good heart boss persona.. and they both learn from each other and grow...

she does't know but we can guess since its a very popular trope... not first loves but its the typical trope of kdramas/cdramas: that feels like fate

she has her reasons of course but the production made the the viewer jump in the story too suddenly. maybe it's a personal preference, but music and tears are not enough for me to be fully compelled by a revenge plan in 10 minutes... that affected my appreciation of her performance in the early episodes. when we push the plot so much we loose the character depiction, without the character depiction the audience relates less to the characters

the bgm was giving bridgerton vibes / pride and prejudice drama style, sometimes its nice extra drama!! 😅

that's it!! her cunning expressions sometimes make it hard to understand the character depiction! like does she really have everything figured out ? sometimes she throws herself in the fire and i really can't tell if it was on purpose and i think she is just reckless! 😅
i find both actors talented too , and i agree editing and production also have a role to play in the romance!
i also found the ML hard to read in his sincerity for the FL. the clearest moment was when she was speaking to the farmers and he watched her sincerly in admiration haha.

what did not help our FL is the weak initial vengeance trope... episode 1 starts the story at a random time. why now? what does she know? why does she hate everyone so bad but has no clue what happened?
it would have been nice to see maybe her planning her first move, slowly revealing her vengeance rage instead of dumping it in the first 10 minutes out of the blue on the viewer! it felt disconnected from the actress.
but eventually she grows in her role, by now she is great, but i'm still not sure on her character: is she reckless? will the story always magically put her ahead of everyone and we dont know how?

also i can say the same thing for ML!!

i knew it when she held the token and i immediately went ughhhh... not the 'first love/ young best friend' trope again 😭
somewhere i wished they were not the same person. this trope is too easy!!

it is noticeable with the very dramatic ost with classical english music touch. it has a little bit of pride and prejudice vibes... the scenes in the wild field...

hahaha location wise too!!! that one had so much potential...

the show is evolving nicely ! I'm glad the plot is getting a bit more complex because the fuel of vengeance the FL started with was not convincing!!!

the scene where he follows her, i think is one of my favourite in this show and i think it finally depicts more of jinqi's character in love. (another one is when he tells her she's too smart to be a maid!!!)

more than trust, i think she became his confident, unlike his trusted men. he *sought* her opinion, advice... he also feels less lonely with her.

the orchid reference was cherry on top!! truly a well scripted drama in every episode!

what i find really brillant here is how our laxiang kind of moved beyond the trauma of her past, just to survive. next arc i imagine is about living free finally. It would be a bit bitter if she gets with the Ml as maid, especially knowing she was promised to him when young. the best thing he can give her after ep 18 is freedom, not a marriage.

I hope there are more accountability scenes with the brother for the investigation at least

absolutely!! i see it as one of the best scripts of 2026 so far!! I knew the main actors were solid but i wasn't expecting as much waw!
everything women related, the greyness, nuance, variety in character, i love it all! my only complaint about that is while the pains of the women good or bad, are clearly because of the patriarchy/men... i was expecting more male villains?! how do we get a full confession scene of cique but her brother only has a question about his sister's plan? you know what I mean?
this show is so brillant that it has me expecting a lot now 😅😅

i loved her confession scene! this show has been giving us nuanced villainesses even if we didn't know much about cuique's past!! her confession was long for sure and i wish we had hints or clues of her benefactor. What i wonder though is that among all villains we only see the women have their downfall displayed in a big speech. i love that!! but i also hope something awaits the brother in future episodes even if he wasn't the brains of the operation...

ep 18 was just so satisfying! honestly i wasn't hoping for much with this show but i knew the main leads were strong actors... what actually amazes me is the super well scripted story. and in this episode we finally have a really cute scene by the moonlight without it being overly sensational...

everytime i remember its 47 i smile because its a long series i'm enjoying each episode! other shows by ep 18 we are more than halfway done...
also amazed how the series is very well written wishing 47 episodes but not just useless ones

i agree with u! the whole era accepts a 'good match' is like the best thing a woman can look for... even our main lead before her family is executed was looking forward to a match... first sister is a classic young n naive but also susceptible. Du realized this to influence her. her ego will take the best of her. while second sister will need to outgrow her selfdoubt.
