I generally dislike the second male lead cause they really only serve as a device to get in the way of female and male lead. I've only had SLS twice (Answer Me 1994 and A Love So Beautiful), but even then I kept wondering why they didn't just give up! I definitely agree with you that a lot of second male leads are selfish.
Honestly, I really like that this series doesn't have any romance in it (except for the last scene). Because of that, it really sticks out in my mind. I would love to rewatch this drama sometime in the future!
This drama is obviously trying to capitalize on Meteor Garden's popularity. That's also why the two have appeared on so many variety shows together a year before this drama was announced.
As for the age gap, I have no problem with it right now since they're both adults. When I watch the drama, I will definitely drop it if there is some crazy screwed-up power dynamics.
I mostly have these problems with my family though I've broken them of some of these habits^^ my mom no longer assumes everything I'm watching is Chinese. She still refuses to watch anything subtitled...
Just finished rewatching it! I really love this drama <3 I have to give special praise to Marie Iitoyo for making her character sympathetic (lol I totally hated Megumi when reading the manga). This drama also introduced to my new favorite actress, Hana Sugisaki. I'm looking forward to a possible second season!!
Finally finished this show after ten months. Very draggy compared to 1997. Too many episodes and too long runtime, especially the last episode. I'll probably never watch 1994 again, while I've already seen 1997 twice and will definitely watch it again.
This is like the Thai version of Degrassi I love it!! I would say skins but it isn’t as full on as that.
I agree!! I think it's somewhere between Degrassi and Skins. Degrassi tries to more informative, while Skins focuses on feelings so it can be kind of over the top. Hormones has find a found a balance between the two! (so far atleast I'm not finished yet)
I stand by what I said in my previous comment. The pace was just too brisk and so too many things were taken for…
I think whichever you see first ends up being your favorite. This one was my first and it's my fave. I still agree with your statements though about the pacing. They squeezed too much of the manga in only 9 episodes (it should have been atleast 16). Atleast they made a sequel and covered some more of the manga. Though I love HYD more, I would say both Meteor Gardens do a better job at adapting the manga's story overall. (I haven't seen the Korean version yet so I can't comment on that one.)
I've read the manga and it is much different from the drama. For one, Haruto's father isn't present at all (at…
I felt the drama kind of superimposed their parents to make more problems for the main characters (as if they need anymore lol). Haruto's father is an asshole though its not really shown until volume 8/9ish. Tenma's stepmother does not like Oto, but she's not scheming to force them apart. Overall, neither of the characters get much screentime in the manga. I expected a lot of changes and I was pretty happy with the end result. Atleast they kept the events in order, unlike Hana Yori Dango (2005)!
Just two clarify I don't see how this is a 2nd season when there is already a 2nd season and a final (movie) Hana…
This drama is based on a manga, the sequel to Boys Over Flowers (aka Hana Yori Dango), so the manga has been licensed in English as Boys Over Flowers Season 2. This is where the 'season 2' comes from. This drama is the third sequel to Hana Yori Dango (2005), following Hana Yori Dango 2 (2007) and Hana Yori Dango Final (2008). Though you can probably consider more of a spin-off as it focuses on completely new characters. (Side note: the 1995 movie has no relation to any of these dramas)
