I liked this movie, the destiny of the two fathers, how the protagonist became "valuable" and how the characters ended together. Aside the classic "woman hysterics" from movies of those times the script is tightly tied.
So I wasn't alone in thinking this. Also Kahori's character was really poorly written...

This entry is all wrong. There's a 1980 first season with 13 episodes. A 1981 second season with 21 episodes. A very long 1982 special. A long 1986 special. A 1989 third season with 4 episodes. And lastly, a 1992 good bye special.
For what I understood watching without subtitles this movie is not good, but it was worth watching for the sole Kiki Kirin's scene. She performance was so good! Clashes with everything else in this movie, almost feels out of place.

I know that the actresses where already selected by their beauty even before, but still, it was a different kind of beauty.
It happened. Kouji's wish cured Mineko's illness, he payed the price with his life, Natsume (the care) guided her to the temple before she moved away to make her own wish.
The episode 1-5 was so good and i love it though im not satisfied in this kind of ending since ep1-5 is kinda…
Here is the thing, from the beginning this drama had that fantasy in it. Natsume (the name of the cat) reminded my of the anime Aria, the the folkloric figure of Cait Sith. We can't know if Natsume orchestrated the two's meeting, if she knew that Kouji was looking for a cat that resembled her and intentionally approached Mineko to make the two meet, but Natsume was there all along, and without a doubt guided Mineko to the temple to make her own wish before moving away. Mineko's cure wasn't a random miracle, she was cured by Kouji's wish. That's the reason why Natsume was waiting in front of their house so early the day he died, he probable had to pay a price for Mineko's cure. This fantasy/supernatural was a core element of the story.

Exactly because I think the movie was got that it got me into thinking... isn't there something that movies "like this" are lacking? The makers and the audience seems to be missing an important point in these stories and you can see a sign of this here on MDL. Look at the tags assigned to this movie. Tell me, why there are not "Mental Health" related tags there? The main female lead isn't a bad person, isn't ill malicious, she is just a person who crumbled under the weight of her dreams. She is weak person that dreamed higher than she could fly. Just look he denials during the ending and tell me she isn't ill. But unfortunately, in these stories and I'm don't doubt also in real life, the male lead isn't even able to get to this realization, so they never help and these movies end with this vibe of "what a crazy girl, right?".
I wish to see movies in the future take this angle.
I thought the idol would be at the end of her career but no, she is young! She is actually still a high schooler and yes, the actress was only 17 years old? NANI?! I can't make sense of this.
