He is certainly entitled and his excessive pride has hindered more than it has helped him. But he also has never really killed anyone and he has shown that he has some conscience. He did try to shield Yake from his mom in the beginning and he did protest slightly when his mother got him concubine Wu bc Yake did give him a child. The problem is he doesn't have the courage to really push back hard against his parents and in the end he always ends up going along with them. No backbone. I feel a bit sorry for him bc his mother is so domineering and he is just as much a pawn in his parent's schemes as everyone else is.

The diabolical thing about it is every thing he said about YJX was true. None of it was a heinous or unforgivable crime it just made him look immoral and weak. But it also shamed ZL and his wife and it made ZL’s investigation seem personal. And yes baby Yu is their Plan B but given their power, this is not something YJX can’t come back from either - he will just be disgraced for awhile.

Cui Yingying is the heroine of Romance of the Western Chamber, a popular love comedy about a girl who elopes with her lower class lover without parental approval - yups there are similarities in fact the opening scene looks like its straight out of Romance of the Western Chamber. The OP said the writer started out writing about a strong, powerful and ambitions FL (FU Tzetian) but ended up turning her into your typical love brained FL (FU Yingying) who just wants to elope and live HEA. Don't come at me - I am just explaining the post which I think I also came across on Douban.

FTY's father was never the patriarch of the Fu family, the eldest Fu brother who is the Magistrate of Huaiying is- that is the seat of their power and they are a noble family there. It is a local level position but a powerful one bc the province pays taxes to the capital. You may not recall but the early episodes all took place in Huaiying not the capital - Mdm Yu visited the Fus from the capital to find a wife for her son. That's also why the FL's father didn't appear early on, bc they were all in Huaiying - idk if WeTV translated the location of the opening setting. It is also why FTY's mother paid ZL to get her daughter FTY to her Xie family in the capital. TY's father is merely Mdm Fu's 5th son, who got his official post in the capital via the Fu family's influence. Old Mdm Fu was the matriarch while she was alive and she ruled over domestic affairs in the Fu household so it was her call whether to kill her granddaughter. She had neither the political savvy nor the access of Mdm Yu, which is why she was kissing her butt. After she died, the current matriarch should be Elder Bro Fu's wife. If 5th uncle had taken over as patriarch, FTY's mother would have been the matriarch. She was not.

The Fu family has not fallen yet -they remain entrenched in Huaiying. FTY's dad refused to return there bc his big bro is the boss and he is irrelevant there so he waited around for another capital post. His son, Tingzhou was trying to succeed in the exams so that he could also get a posting in the capital as well. Probably bc eldest uncle Fu has sons, Tingzhou is not in line to succeed him. Like his father, his best way forward was in the capital. But he is not ambitious and he is content to remain in Huaiying. It was common for rich merchants like the Xies to marry their daughters into noble families like the Fus. In doing so, FTY's father was able to access her dowry to fund his ambitions in the capital.

I am a plot watcher and not that big a fan of romance so that aspect doesn't matter to me as much as most people on here.

Douban is the industry standard. It is the score the platforms, production teams, investors and celebrities themselves value most.

It is the platform's decision when to open it. If they think it is a good enough score, they will usually open it in the hope that more people start watching it - esp in advance of express episodes.
