As an LGBTQ person your comment makes me uncomfortable on so many levels. I really think you should educate yourself…
This comment thread went very wild. I think ''I W'' had good intentions but took the social justice warrior aspect a bit far. Technically you can find offense in everything, a normal conversation without making personal assumptions is usually best to resolve things.
Yea some people prefer not to hear stereotypical words like top/bottom or seme/uke but currently these sorts of terms are still used by a lot of members of the gay community. I think its okay to voice an opinion about that but to immediately make assumptions like homophobia is a bit much. It's also not like the terms will disappear anytime soon, its used by so many people.
Also, I agree ElektrionHeart that some experiences are unique to specific groups of people. It's good to understand that while we may have assumptions or ideas... The experiences of real members of a community/gender are often so much more telling. I hope you still feel comfortable on this platform.
If you aren't sure whether the story is gonna be interesting enough to watch I recommend watching Episode 12. It is where the story really picks up in interesting plot twists, the first episodes are mainly focused on fleshing out the main heroes characters.
The show can be childish and there is obviously a focus on the toy-aspect with the designs of the giant gem-machines but they have fun with it. The show-writers know how to build hype (the music is so good for this) and they've created an interesting backstory. You really learn to appreciate the fun fight scenes and their flashy fight-moves. The humor is also often on point like how the weekly monsters capture people in funny ways or just absurd situations.
So the basic story is about an alien gem-civilization with gem-people (they look like gem statues) who use magical gemstones. Their civilization is lost due to a conflict and evil gem-people rise up. The gem-princess flees to earth and acquires the help of the heroes who can transform the magical gemstones. This war has had its casualties and there are many problems to solve. When the final hero arrives a lot more information is given about the gem-war, mostly because he himself was involved.
I guess the show reminded me most of ''Steven Universe'' in regards to the gem-aliens story. I wouldn't be surprised if they took inspiration from that cartoon.
This comment has made me want to go back and give this series another chance.
Definitely recommend you do! Let me try to summarise my experience.
So I had watched Episode 1 but wasn't big into it. I thought the gem-princess was unique but didn't think they would invest a lot of effort into the backstory. However, I kept seeing the episodes pop up so when Episode 12 appeared I watched it.
Let me tell you, if Episode 12 doesn't get you hyped to watch the rest nothing will. That fight scene with meteorite-monster is also something else. I have never seen someone obliterate meteorites with a drill and laserbeam someone into a very explosive death while striking a cool pose. You can probably even skip the first 11 Episodes if you just know the basics that the heroes are fighting with a gem-princess of a fallen gem-kingdom with the help of magical gemstones. Their enemy is of course the evil gemstone-people. This episode introduces the last hero character and it starts really giving away a lot more story of the gem-war and the results of that war.
So if you aren't sure about this series just try Episode 12 I guess. It made me intrigued enough to watch the rest.
Can't believe I'm the first comment here in 3 years. It's a really fun drama with a solid storyline, definitely recommended! Also, features the faraway year of 2021 xD
Li Zi Wei is Wang Quan Sheng. Meaning that Li Zi Wei's soul went to the body of Wang Quan Sheng and he decided…
The original Wang Quan Sheng is LGBT (he had a guy crush) but he died. Wang Quan Sheng's original character isn't involved with any of the other characters (our trio).
So I watched it completely... The original Wang Quan Sheng just kinda dies either way? Its either su*cide or his posessed body dying in the plane crash. I know the story couldn't fit another detailed characters story but its still sad.
So if I understand this right. The whole time travel thing starts because of Chen Yun Ru dying. The music-player that was kept allows Huang Yu Xuan to go back in time and meet Li Zi Wei. At the end Chen Yun Rus death happens anyway and Mo Jun Jie goes to prison.
Years later Li Zi Wei travels to the future in the body of Wang Quan Sheng and he tries to get with Huang Yu Xuan and to attempt to stay together. Here he is also told about what happened in the years between and how Mo Jun Jie died. At the end his plane crashes and ''Wang Quan Sheng'' dies.
Then back to the body of Li Zi Wei, he recovers from a carcrash and tries to prevent the suicide of Mo Jun Jie which fails. Finally he warns himself (his past version) in the body of Wang Quan Sheng to not take the plane that crashes but he does anyway to allow events to happen as they should. This allows Huang Yu Xuan to travel to the past and Li Zi Wei can finally meet up with her in the future without causing them to never meet in the past.
Then this killer dude from the future uses the music player to go to the past and he uses the creepy boy there to attempt to kill Chen Yun Ru. He fails but manages to kill Li Zi Wei in the future.
Finally in the final time travel Chen Yun Ru is saved by Mo Jun Jie. They burn the music in the past so that all the events of suffering will never happen but they will forget each other too. Then they meet anyway but she's still small and they get together when they're older.
Anyway, I kinda disliked Chen Yun Rus character at the end because she was focusing her life on 1 guy she couldn't get. I found that a bit selfish of her towards everyone involved but that's just my perspective. But considering her age and the circumstances I can manage to understand
Such a fun drama to watch. I knew a bit about Youkai before watching this (I used to love Nurarihyon no mago, recommend it if you want to learn a bit more) but I think it's fine to watch this without knowing about the subject. The onmyoji (kinda like a priest) in this is hilarious in comparison to onmyoji I was used to seeing.
This one was a detective and AI partner story and I love those. Detectives who want to do everything themselves and the AI's who just want to fulfill their function and help.
Very short but this main character dude is such a legend. You could totally see an old persons soul in that acting. Also, the end was indeed rushed but very fitting to this legendary chaotic character in my opinion.
Yeah his initial impression as a character was really bad in my perspective as well. Especially when you see him…
Yeah I just watched the first 4 minutes of Ep 2. So yeah my opinion of Asada is still that he's a bad person. I think no amount of tragic backstory is gonna convince me otherwise at this point. Like I get that some people have issues but don't make others (who aren't involved) miserable cause of it.
But of course there's growth potential for everyone, even the biggest jerks.
I guess the reason why it got negative reviews in Japan is because it's a yuri bait lol. I still like the drama…
First time seeing yuri-bait in a real series for me. I've seen BL bait much more often. However, it was expected as they do this trope of the girl switching to guys more often in stories.
i hate the character asada's audacity, "there is no girl i can't get" no you asshole, you literally can't get…
Yeah his initial impression as a character was really bad in my perspective as well. Especially when you see him bothering the girls at the very beginning. Even the good things he does, he has to add that little comment about getting the girl as if its a game. I know things likely change in later episodes but I'm just letting first time viewers know what they'll encounter in episode 1.
Yeah once you get to know the cast it becomes so much fun. They just have fun with the concept and I love that.
Thanks! I tried it out cause I saw it on a drama site I use. Decided to try it and really enjoyed it. I knew of the existence since Power Rangers were a thing but never saw that cause it was older.
Yeah I kinda know the formula of such shows with new teams every time, its similar to certain other franchises. I will check out Ressha Sentai ToQger thanks!

I can't wait to see this, normally I'm more of a detective romance person but this is good too.
