It was fun watch tackling some serious issues. It lost some of its steam towards the end, but still enjoyable.

Please don't misunderstand me. my comment is NOT about QoT.
All I want to say is that popularity and quality are not the same thing. Sometimes a certain work has both, but not always. So, ratings shouldn't be a factor in choosing the winner.

I don't have strong opinion because I haven't watched enough 2023 shows.

The Han clan is big.
Personally, I found this particular joke distaseful.
Otherwise, it is one of my all times favourite dramas.

I love Park Eunbin. She is in my top 5 Korean actresses, but I don't believe in the notion that an actor can make the drama. Of course actors are very important, but a great drama is a collaborative effort, and I would say the corner stone is actually the writing.
All that to say, I am not that excited about this. I had enough of superheros. I understand Kdramas are relatively new to this genre, but from a selfish pov growing up on American TV, I have reached my limits with superheros. I can't take more.
I find PEB shine most in character roles where there is little or no romance. Her best two roles imo were in Extraordinary Attorney Woo & Hot Stove League.

I don't think IU is great actress (btw, I didn't know her before the series and I didn't become her fan even after it. I am just not into Kpop), but she was very good in this one. Her eyes were very expressive, and she managed to convey lots of emotions through them. I thought her monotonous expression was appropriate for her character. I would completely believe a person in her situation to be miserable all the time.
LSK was the of course the better of the two, but I think she has done very well in this series.

This was plot device and a suspension of disbelief is required :)

Does this have a complete arc, or does it end on a cliffhanger?
As this is an American produced show, it is almost certainly end with a S2 in mind.
But, does it at least wrap the main story satsfyingly?

This was my first Kdrama, so I will never forget it.
I did enjoy it very much, and even rewatched it. It takes you through all range of emotions, and the leads chemistry is one of the best.

But, I wouldn't call it profound. It is certainly on the lighthearted side, but with some very emotional scenes.

How comes you were not bothered by all these white teeth in "Kingdom"?
Or are you telling me that people in the Joseon era used to brush their teeth 3 times a day and had regular dental care? :)

What an agency is supposed to do? investigate every artist and send people to their hometowns tracing their steps and interviewing people they interacted with? People do shady stuff at various stages of their lives They will end up with more investigators than police departments, and they might as well start a new business.
By the way, I have no opinion on the guilt or innocence of her I just don't know But, it is unrealistic to expect agencies to do a very detailed background check on their artists.
All they can do is to check for criminal records and generally accessible data.

I also watched this partly because of Park Min Young after "Marry My Husband" but for the opposite reason from you.
Personally, I didn't find her special in MMH (the second FL was way better imo), and I was wondering why she is so popular?
Watching this though made me appreciate her much more. She is great in this one. Almost a different person.

I haven't watched Misaeng yet, but I heard a lot about it.
I am basically saving it for a raing day.

Well, People go into relationships (no matter of their condition) with the belief that they are going to succeed.
Yet, a huge number of them don't make it despite their genuine effection.
What we have seen in the series is not that different. Our FL knew what she was goint into, and fully believed that this wouldn't be a problem, but then when she started experiencing it, things became different.

This phenomen is not even about relationships only. people go into all kinds of thing with genuine belief that they can succeed, just for the reality to kicks in.

If you want to see him as the good guy watch "The Kidnapping Day". It is very good.

I think you should stop watching. These are super long episodes ( almost90mins for the last 3). So, wait until it ends, then do a FF watching if you are still interested.
Just because it has high ratings and it is well received doesn't mean you have to watch it or it is good. At the end of the day, what matters most is that you need to enjoy it.

While I think you have valid points about the ending, I am not sure I agree with your description of relationship end as being destructive.
Regardless whether we agree or not with their reasons for the break up, it was on a good terms and out of concern for the other. I would call the break up misguided, not destructive.
