I didn't have much of an opinion on the Loves till now. But the way ML told him "you're going against me over…
I feel it was actually Chen Yanyu's way of helping Ye Xian. He first tells him about the situation Ye Xian's father is going to face in a way that no one else can hear him. Additionally, remember, in that time period women had a far different status. Wives, concubines and relationships outside the marriage were seen quite different from how we view them now. Fighting over woman compared to what Lord Changxin and Ye Xian's family faces would certainly be seen as useless and disrespectful towards his own family and something not worth doing, shameful even maybe. After all, filial piety comes first before the wife. Fighting over a woman you're not married and who is (going to be) betrothed to another man instead of showing filial piety was, in that time, regarded as punishable.
That is why I feel Chen Yanyu helped him, instead of mocking and having lower standards.
My heart broke for Ye Xian. Of course we always knew this wasn't going to happen. I do feel it might have been better if they'd actually had let him fall in love with Xue Qinglan. Give them both a nice relationship as well.
ETA: I wrote the above when I had only watched the beginning. That said, yes, YX isn't the best character. But he's had his challenges in life, I think. The way he responded towards FML and his sister after hearing the news was bad.
I have confusion about Jinzhao's age. I'm at episode 4 where they talk about the proposal. One minute the English translation says the guy is her age: 19. A few scenes later they say again that she's 15. What is it?
I just watched this series again. I think another series with the two leads as leads again, of course falling in love, but her more... mature, I guess, would be interesting :D
Nice! I like their chemistry. Now, if the descriptions could refrain from telling the entire story including the ending, that would be great. I'll still watch it, though :D If only for the chemistry between the two leads :D
C-dramas are pretty repetitive nowadays. Too many restrictions, too many rules, and little room for creativity.…
Sure, the drama has been cited as using the original novel, but in the first season already so much changed from the book. And I DO mean shiploads, not just a little thing. I have read the novel so I know a LOT has been changed. So, if so much in the first season has changed, it's only logical that the second season will deviate even more. In that light a description like above (and on Baidu) is simply way too much.

There's a difference between being repetitive and describing the entire series in the post and with it basically spoiling the series. I mean, there's no tension to watch anymore. We already know the main leads survive and will come together. I mean, sure, it's based on a novel with the same outcome, but they have deviated from the novel. Leaving a little bit of surprise in the description of the series would be a good thing.
Well, I guess it's.... okay to have a full blown description of what's going to happen in the series. No surprises left anymore. We beforehand know the male lead will return alive, even though we might have thought he wouldn't without the description.....
4 episodes in and I find the series mostly hilarious. I love how everything is progressing and the measures the both leads take. I'm looking forward to more episodes I can emerge myself into!

On a happier note: Yay for season 2!!
