For me, the problem is that while we were waiting for the drama, it wasn't clear if it was going to be a sequel or another take on the same story (but complete from start to end). It turns out it seems to be an actual sequel... but I haven't watched the original series. And it's 67 eps long...

I know they did a short re-cap in the first ep (and probably the following, I'm still to watch the rest), but it's compressed to the extreme. And TBH I don't want to have to watch the first part in order to relate to who these people are and why should I care about them.

But when it finished airing, I'll still give it a chance - I mean, as far as I can go (hopefully all the way).

As for the cnetz, LOL, it looks like each and every little thing is now an article-worthy subject. You do you, I guess.

Yeah, sorry, I gave it 2 eps, this is not for me. I like the eye candy as much as the next person, but there is no plot except for a long line of beauty shots, and it doesn't improve on the first ep with the storytelling - everyone just keeps SAYING what they did or are going to do and they're not SHOWN doing much at all. I don't really like the FL character at all, she has no winning points so far and I've already had it with her (nothing against IU, she's cute. The character sucks though). And the ML is a three-trope hidden into a longcoat. too. I don't care to keep waiting for something to actually happen.

I have no patience for same-old-same-old fake Cinderella romcoms, Looks like I've anticipated this drama for nothing. Oh well, there's always going to be another.

Wishing you all joy in your drama-watching.

Because most of the stuff people be saying has no logic to it whatsoever, just pure hate. I'm defending both of…
Jumping in for a side-comment (I am not yet committed to the drama, though I won't form an opinion until at least ep2).

But I've actually seen quite a LOT of comments gushing over the leads and even some of the support cast (it was cute how everybody is calling Jo JaeYun as JinMu, LOL, he'll never escape that character) while immediately bashing "hate" comments that are simply showing not everybody is immediately amazed by the drama. A lot of them had actual critical points to make - how the plot is kind of weak so far (yes, ep1 yet, but 1/12 not 1/16 or 1/20 as they used to have), that there are a lot of tropes and nothing particularly new, that the characters are not showing much but telling a lot, etc.

I mean, if that's what one expects of a romcom feat. known actors... then I guess it's okay. But TBH, at least myself, I was expecting something a lot more enticing from the get-go. I guess they could try to build them up over the (kind of few) eps, but there's not a lot of time and the first ep is kind of disjointed for now.

I hope it'll improve. Just... that thing with "if you can't say anything nice don't say anything" really rankles - like, seriously, most of us are adults here. This is the comment section. If I feel like saying something that isn't laudatory, that doesn't mean I - or others like me - am/are haters.

Expect that not everybody will love this and if you think they're not commenting in good faith, report or block them, don't engage. It's that simple. Just don't treat everybody who's not in love with it as haters.

/over and out.

She says - "he'll accept me because where else would he find someone as beautiful, smart and rich like me"?!…
Here's also hoping they give it some depth if that's the original idea... or that they actually do a sweet fluffy romcom, if that's what they aimed for. A hybrid between those extremes never works well, IMHO...

Someone please let me know if you recommend the original or the special edition and why (Without spoilers)
Definitely the original. It has a lot more details and while the SE streamlines the plot a bit, it's not even that much - original has 45 min eps (including OP and ED), the SE has 1 hr eps (including OP/ED). There's not a too different running time in-between, so why lose all the details?

What the SE DOES have compared to the original is the "right" scenes order in the last episode that'll give you the actual timeline of the ending and not the bit of a tricky one the original had.

So yeah... for the full experience - the original. When you're finished with it, go to the last ep of the SE and re-watch the ending for the original ending LOL.

First season went by so fast, second season is like pulling teeth and Arisu got so preachy and philosophical.…
Finished the last 2 eps on 2x speed (minus the action scenes). The first season was better. The second one had more gruesome deaths, way too much anime-philosophy (that means, words that say basically nothing but sound cool and deep), and the ending, TBH, is kind of underwhelming.

Because it makes no sense - if there isn't any outside force making this Borderland nightmare happen COLLECTIVELY for all the people caught in the meteor strike, how come they all dream the same freaking dream before dying or recuperating?!

And if there's an outside force, who are they? I don't really feel like watching S3 right now.

NGL, I was expecting... a lot more. I'll give it another episode, but so far I am not really drawn in, despite…
She says - "he'll accept me because where else would he find someone as beautiful, smart and rich like me"?! That gives such a low-class I-am-the-main-character vibe.

And they keep harping on her being born to a mistress and raised outside her rich family's house. All the "legitimate" siblings give incomplete vibes too, so cliche and not really bringing anything new and interesting to the story.

Like - I thought this was going to be more... special. BWS's face, IU's face - okay, I liked those, but where's the plot? We spent an hour hearing about the story and not really seeing much of it - the obligatory little red dress, the obligatory red muscle car, the obligatory CEO-with-a-heart-for-friends who likes to humiliate her male dep't heads - because WHY?! That doesn't scream smart at me, it screams insecurity and waspishness.

The ML also - so he has a history, he's regent (mostly for the looks) to his nephew, there should BE no palace power plays since this is supposed to be a constitutional monarchy, so there's no real tension there depite the support cast around him suggesting things.

The tone so far seems way too light, preparing you for a light romcom, and then you get hit with class differences (like SHE's AT THE FREAKING ROYAL SCHOOL, there's not much of a difference apart from the titles, who are WORTHLESS in a constitutional monarchy anyway...) It makes it look like the writer has NO idea what such a thing is, despite having quite a few European constitutional monarchies to look at from an outsiders' POV. Is this going to pretend to be inspired by Goong instead?

So... yeah. Here we are. I guess 12 eps isn't a lot of time to pace a nice romcom, but maybe try showing more instead of telling, and not spend (for example) 5 minutes on the ML rejecting the FL's requests for an audience (because it wasn't really all that funny).

Well. ep2 will tell if there's something here other than the face cards. So far, this seems to look more like King the Land but with a bit more of a closer status between the "Cinderella" rich girl trying to marry the noble royal scion instead of low-level employee vs. employer.

why are they sleeping with the windows open during winter?! ive been wondering this for so long because of cdramas
I've explained this a few times before, but it always gets swamped in comments...

It's because there are no chimneys in Ancient China (or up til the Middle Ages in European countries, too). They (the Chinese) almost always built in wood so there was always 1. the danger of fire (that would spread throughout a city because of the normal building materials they used) and 2. the danger of suffocation (because the heating was done, where at all, through fire basins that burned wood and/or charcoal). If you have a good insulation, and use those basins, the smoke doesn't get to escape through any openings so it'll accumulate on the lower levels (where one's head would be when sleeping) and a lot of the oxygen would be burned up in the process too. So kind of very dangerous for the sleeping people.

That's why you'll see that most if not all of the cooking is done outside, in a separate building or under a lean-to ro protect from rain etc. The cooking fires would be banked at night exactly to prevent any accidental fires.

And so, you're left with two options for heating - 1. use a Kang bed (made out of bricks, it has funnels through which heated air and smoke (mostly from stove fires in the kitchen) would travel and heat up the bed throughout the day. They were communal long beds and usually found in colder regions of the country and on the lowest level of the house. And 2. Use fire basins BUT leave a window cracked so that air circulates enough to prevent inhaling smoke and/or asphyxiation.

PS In peasant hovels in Europe they used to have it easier than in Ancient China, LOL, since most of them were dug-outs under the surface level (so natural heat shielding) AND they used dried long weeds or rushes for the roof. These herbs were more diffuse so the smoke from the fires inside could theoretically go through them and not gather down killing the occupants. In the long houses (pre-medieval), they used to have an opening above the fire pit so that smoke escaped (the downside being that in very cold nights the fire couldn't go out, or they'd all freeze).

There's a lot of reasons why lung diseases used to kill lots of people in ancient times...

First season went by so fast, second season is like pulling teeth and Arisu got so preachy and philosophical. Dammit. If it's game-roleplay action, go with it, don't change what's working. Struggling with this one halfway through.

Oh, that explains it then, he was acting hangry LOL. (I know, bad pun).

"There isn't anyone on set who isn't in pain. "

That's so extreme. It DID look pretty gore-ish and convincing, but dammit... I couldn't take that on no matter the dedication and no matter how much money they'd pay (I doubt they'd pay enough for it to be worth it). Speaking for someone over 40, that pain does NOT go away and one can never prepare for it even when you hear the 40 crowd talking about how everything hurts. To do it to yourself ON PURPOSE feels even more painful. Kudos to all of them, but man... ouch.

IMHO his character was the most impressive in the drama, so I guess all that work and sacrifice might be worth it. Then again... good thing he won't let his kids watch LOL, because "f!ck you ssibal!!" came out of his own mouth hahaha~ He'd never hear the end of it at home if they watch it.

Title Rebirth Spoiler
In the novel, zhuge yue didn’t take poison for chu qiao,it was actually his right hand man who saved him from…
Did PA not adapt the whole novel, then? I looked and they already had 67 eps, that was plenty of time to do it (according to today's rules anyway).

I meant the poison the Ximeng people feed the ML - the Bonegrass Cold one IIRC. That's usually kind of a BE classic setup - they'd control him through it, he'd eventually break with them and not get the antidote, some drama ensues, ML heroically dies (usually). Or she saves him. Probably...

This is what I got from ep1, having not watched PA:

1. People in Ximeng don't comb their hair. ML will continue not combing either LOL.

2. This was (probably) a short recap of PA, more plot unrelated to follow.

3. I should've probably watched PA first.

4. I have never seen the SML, why does he get so much airtime (and will the ML's airtime match eventually).

5. That poison they already fed the ML will probably lead to a BE sometime in the future.

6. I should wait to binge it when it's done, maybe also watch PA first?...

(ETA) 7. Spending half the ep on that one scene without context seems overkill.

How close am I?

Title Agent from Above Spoiler
This turned out to be extremely entertaining. Nice pure-souled, clear moral compass lead, good support cast, good…
TBH if I got my hands on the Third Crown Prince, I'd wring his thick little neck. He basically forces Han Hsieh into the contract and its renewal because he can and because he found himself a great Agent and doesn't want to let go of him. And while HS is doing the hard work, he (the 3rdCP) is concurrently tormenting him with images of his parents suffering in Hell.

Like, WHY the eff. (Yeah he did things but isn't he busy redeeming them?! Have a heart, you idiot Prince of the Underworld).

PS It took me quite a while in the last ep to realise the egg was supposed to create the new Myna messenger LOL. My bad.

This turned out to be extremely entertaining. Nice pure-souled, clear moral compass lead, good support cast, good special effects, a very nice BGM, too bad it wasn't longer.

I wouldn't say no to another season or two, though if the whole novel was already covered, I wonder what else they could show. This season too wouldn't have hurt for a few more eps to better develop the ML's past trauma.

The ONHCT rec is spot on - this is supernatural with a soul.

PS Though seriously the rating right now is a joke. This deserves a lot more. Hopefully its audience finds MDL and rectifies it.
