True, lol. Their behavior is really off-putting tbh. They do have the right to express their opinions and likes/dislikes…
It is, isn't it?... I thought it would stop by now, I guess not. Oh well. At least the drama IS entertaining for non-submersed watchers like me, and even if not "perfect", it's still a good escape from everyday problems :)

Yup, people will like or dislike whatever suits them. It's just - there are so many unhidden spoilery comments that "reply" to questions people ask out of curiousity... and they kind of tell you what you should be expecting, what comes next, what there isn't in the drama that "should have been", that the MCs are or are not fat, strong, intelligent, etc BUT "according to the canon they should have been such and such"...

Seriously?! LOL.

And then there are the really mean comments - things like such-and-such actor is ugly or expressionless, that music is stupid, that music writer is on drugs?! WTH. Music choices are a bit out of the norm from time to time, but that was actually a refreshing take on BGM, for me.

But as I said... whatever rocks their boats. Just use a spoiler tag, what's so hard in that?! *despair*

Some comments here decry the beginning of the drama - the first two episodes set in the present seem to make no sense with no background information, and for someone who didn't read the novel (that begins exactly the same way) or are not into xianxia dramas (so they don't know what cultivation, clans, qi deviation, orthodox daoism and all the rest actually ARE) it can be daunting.

Then you get to the flashback but orderly sequence of what led to the present day, and by the end of it you're hopefully committed and interested in the fate of all the characters you've met. That worked for me.

I had a bit of a problem with the donghua - it IS extraordinary too, the same story, obviously but much better FX, as animation is easier than live action in that aspect, just as good music, and the same beloved characters - but the time skips are kind of hard to follow for me.

That bittersweet emotion is exactly what I appreciate most about the drama - I'll take not so great CGI and a somewhat changed main plot due to censorship, but the emotions are raw and I was invested in the story from start to end. As I said, the actors, music, beautiful cinematography and pace really worked magic.

The fact that the flashback ends in tragedy is mitigated by the fact that we already know Wei Ying is back already... And that helped me entice other people, previously uninterested in Chinese dramas, to give it a shot :D

I'm pretty sure the producers balanced everything before deciding to go the way of the long flashback and then return to the present for the end. For me, that choice worked perfectly :)

Watch the donghua for that, then. The third and final season is supposed to start this March, and they do the chronology closer to the novel's.

For myself, I rather like the drama version, instead. That way, when the second plot starts in the present, all the characters are known, all the secrets are exposed to the watcher and you can join the MCs as they make their discoveries knowing what lead to those.

The novel and the donghua can be a bit distracting with the ongoing time jumps, and if I had not watched the drama first, I would have been a bit lost.

MXTX likes that kind of stories, though, she did it again in TGCF and SVSSS. Speaking for myself only, I again did not appreciate that kind of storytelling, and while I enjoyed parts of the novels, they didn't captivate me as much as MDZS did. I guess most of the charm - for me anyway - came from the cast, the script, the music and basically all the production levels of TU, and reflected upon the other media.

But it's a personal taste matter in the end, isn't it? I like logical progression better and that helped me appreciate the drama more.

As for the episodes themeselves - Ye Zhi Qiu is a biological weapon, LOL. I loved Master teaching the arrogant kids a lesson. I am pretty sure they won't be able to wrap up all the threads in the remaining 7 episodes as the producers probably hope for more seasons.

If there is a second season, I'd watch it. this has been a lot more fun than what I'd been expecting (but keep in mind I didn't know what I should have been expecting, just a general impression this was somewhat like a shonen manga adaptation, think something like Naruto and Bleach, just of a Chinese origin.)

(Ep. 33).

I am getting rather frustrated with the comment section here and I might stop checking it because of too many comments that should be hidden under spoilers but are not.

As in, I get it that people would rather have a direct non-straying donghua-to-drama version, or a direct non-straying novel-to-drama version but dammit, there are other people - myself included - who like it as it is. Yes we might not have had the presumably immense pleasure to have read the novel or followed the very long donghua but what of it? It is what it is and it won't ever be different. They won't go back 2 years in the past to re-write the script, the music, re-do the direction and change the actors.

It's like some people would not let other people have their fun unless everybody joins in the woe and dislike chorus. It's a bit bothersome but hey, whatever rocks your boat.

That said, I am aware this is not a perfect drama, as many are not, that there are some parts that could have been done better, and that people expected more of it. I have NO idea what the novel is about, and I won't be reading it because it's not my kind of story usually, I looked at the donghua and while the first episode is entertaining, I don't have that kind of time to keep watching it, etc. So this is my one and only foray into the DD 'verse, if it stops at the first season.

Is that the aim of the people who keep comparing the drama with what should have happened, according to the novel or donghua? Keep new people away from it all? Just curious.

On episode 31. Will Master actually go for his third ring, or wait for the school contest to be over?
Also, new characters get swapped in. The Control Branch Master would just go away like that because TS's old dad's friend came into play? Then why not have all the oldsters come together again and deal with the Martial Soul Hall, if they're all so powerful?

Still loving DGB - he just comes and goes whenever he wants to. I think he adopted TS as a nephew, LOL. He gets so protective :D

DMB fight when? I want to see the next level tiger!

Support Branch kids are the GOAT. Nobody expected them to survive the arena, LOL, and they wiped out two of the Imperial Team members. Loving the team action!

Title The Untamed
Watch donghua (anime) based on BL: Scum Villain (from the same author like MDZS/CQL), Thousand Autumns - both…
If it has to be a Chinese xianxia, then Ever Night season 1. There is bromance, but the ML is hetero. No innuendos. Great music, good fighting scenes, interesting characters. Don't watch season 2, the first one stands on its own pretty much.

If it can be a kdrama then definitely Flower of Evil. It'll take your mind off things. It's nowhere near a bromance, but a melo thriller, one of the best dramas I've watched these past few years.

If it has to be a romance, then kdrama While You Were Sleeping. Because it has it all - good action, interesting plot, very good music, and Lee Jong Suk. Some bromance too. (The MDL count says 32 eps, but don't worry, it's the usual 16 but counted as separate parts LOL).

EDIT: PS and have you watched the Mo Dao Zu Shi Q chibi donghua too? It's not finished airing yet, last episode is this next Sunday. It's all on youtube and probably elsewhere too. Too cute!

This is actually not half bad at all.

I don't like either of the leads, and have seen them in few dramas (might be a selection biased opinion), but the story is rather interesting AND it seems to have a very good technical team. I liked the cinematography and music in these first two episodes, and the supporting cast is pretty spot-on. (Particularly the King, he's rather convincing.)

I'm all ready to be amazed by a Goguryeo sageuk, seen too many set in Joseon and too few set in older times. Here's hoping they keep to the more rustic looks for at least a while, I quite appreciate that.

Is the novel this is based on TLed in English somewhere? Just in case the writer pulls an un-HEA instead of the novel one.

On episode 25, will there be time enough to fit a good ending to the season in the 15 eps left?... Loving it so…
The fight in episode 24 was good, though they kept smashing those mushroom-like umbrellas LOL. I am so very sorry for the people of the city left to clean those up.

That Du Gu master is creepy, is he the one who negotiated with the Azure Python? Then maybe the ultra boss is not actually Tang San's father, they're just using his name and skills to hide themselves from queries.

I WONDER what the exact relationship is between Master and Headmaster Liu. I have NO idea who she is, but she's already making me laugh with her fixed stares - predator watching her prey - whenever she's looking at Master. Can we have a fated romance, LOL? Though I feel in the past it was maybe a contention point between them, splitting them apart. SLK HM seems to be interested in her, and she's only (aggressively) watching Master... I love him squirming, but I want to know more.

Still the best part of the drama is the way nobody in particular is the ML, they're all a team working toward a goal. So many dramas focus on a certain person or two at most, and leave the rest behind. This is not one of them.

Kim Hwan, as astute as ever.

And TBH I didn't expect to come to laugh over those siblings' rivalry. This feels more like the true ending to the series to me and keeps the same sense of humour that entertained me for all those hours. I even come to like KBI in this.

All hail Jang Bong Hwan, the perfectest man to have ever been perfect! And well, I agree... The King deserves a DefCon Level 1 alert! Rawr!

For everyone who didn't settle well with the ending... I highly recommend the spin-off. It is a much better send-off to SoBong, and feels like the true epilogue to an amazing story.

Yup, it's JC. One of his used titles is Sandu Shengshou, the Thrice Bane Master (and his sword's name is actually Sandu). But it's hard to keep track since the official translation only uses that name once, in the kids' play, AFAIK. The fan TL was way more informative, at least for me. They used to TL all the titles, too, and they were rather well-sounding.

Kim Hwan might possibly be the most awesome idiot in history.
I have to admit, his efforts at riddling out the King's secret "secret" identity had me in stitches. At which the King helplessly asks who appointed KH in a position of diplomacy... well, THE KING did!!!! ROFLMAO

Literally brought me to tears of howling laughter.

The drama stuck the landing, but oh how wronged I feel on the part of Jang Bong Hwan!!! I wanted him there, with his alterego personality, enjoying the fruits of his labour LOL. But I can't say I'm unhappy the historical persons remained historical and the present persons remained present. But oh I wish...

The IMPERIAL PORTRAIT is the greatest touch. I mean. Did nobody in history EVER vetted that dumb portrait? LOL.

Thumbs up for Shin Hye Sun - when JBH was gone, she was the same woman but different. Softer spoken, moving differently, self-composed etc. VERY good acting. If I were in charge of Daesangs this year, I know who would get it.

I hope the promised epilogue lives up to the expectations - and I hope CJH makes another cameo appearance. He deserves to be reunited with the King and Queen in the present, can't we have that please?!

This was so good. I loved it. I want more.
