I think he was okay in Story of Kumning place, well up to 1/2 of the series that I watched. For me, the actor that is inspiring is Daniel Day Lewis,(he is a Brit). That guy literally becomes the person he's portraying, totally disappears into his role, you won't even recognize the actor. You should watch the movie "Lincoln".
The battle scenes are underwhelming (same problem with most kdrama sagueks) and actually detracts from the overall quality of the show. Instead of tens or even hundreds of thousands of soldiers, we get small company level skirmishes. If budget is limited, better to show the aftermath of the battles or just describe them in passing and focus on the story of the people. Overall, a very good drama, I give this series a 9.1 - 9.2 rating. For me the first half of the series was definitely better. Strangely, I felt the same for "love like galaxy".

Like idol actors in kdramas, still not very good, just a pretty face, but he's young, give him time to mature in his art. I actually prefer to watch older and more experienced actor (Chen DaoMing for ex). They have a certain presence that is usually lacking in younger actors.

thank you so much. interesting, was the director backlisted because of his association with Fan Bing Bing ( Empress of China)_? She was in the international news a few years ago about tax scandal, so even I know about her. I also think Rana Mite was referring to this drama" Empress of China" in the documentaty. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/b09ycztp
One thing I noticed when I was watching the Princess Royal, is that the lead actress articulation sounds a bit out of place. It sounds very "modern". I say sounds, because I am not a Mandarin speaker. Is that the main reason why they dub over the actress/actor in cdrama?
It's not really either. I guess it's a fictional historical with some slight exaggerations of combat - so you…
LLTG is actually based on the era at the beginning of eastern Han dynasty. The best cdrama emperor of all time is based on Emperor Guangyu. So there is SOME historical accuracy.
A Dream of Splendour or Love Between Fairy and Devil. A Dream of Splendour has wonderful chemistry between leads…
I did watch a Dream of Splendor, stopped for no reason midway. Its good. and Yeah, I should continue it. Fairy and Devil, ahhh , the main actress is really cringey. Anyway, I tend to stay away from xanxia genre. Thanks for the suggestion.
Ok so I stopped watching cdramas in 2018 and even at that time I never watched any historical drama. But I heard…
In Xanxia beings live a thousand years, jets around between heaven and earth realms, and can shoot colorful laser beams like Ironman. Wuxia is more like the Crouching Tiger movie. The protagonist has fantastic Kungfu and sword fighting skills, can leapt very high defying gravity but don't emit any electromagnetic beams. This one is a bit Wuxia.
There is a five-minute episode 40.5 to make sure the viewers see the happy couple happy with a kid.
I don't think I want to argue over drama battles, they are almost never portrayed realistically anyway. By the way, this podcast might interest you, discussion by historians and academics on the Art of War. It's in English as I don't understand Mandarin. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/w3ct38sr
