MAX has the film divided into two parts just as it was originally released. If you watched on YT or elsewhere. Part 1 ends when Oishi’s wife and two children leave him as he watches them go.
The total run time is around 4 hours for the whole story. This is the first part released in 1941. MDL also lists the second part released in 1942. MAX has them broken down into two parts if you are looking for a way to watch separately.

I did think the reason she never seemed to respond to his emotions was because she had been trained that there would never be the possibility of a relationship in the future and the ML was the naïve one who thought they could have something and couldn’t hold his emotions in.
