i expected more events, hapenings in this drama, but the family disputes mainly caused by that revengeful aunt is really tiresome. Among the recent projects of Yang Zi in the past several years , this drama is the less interesting one.
I'll never understand where there are so many costume dramas that begin beautifully consistent in both storytelling and sequence, but once they reach 2/3 of the drama, the story falls apart with uncnecceary complications, flaws and inconsistency, this drama is of no exception. All of the sudden the wife of the chancellor (the villain) is the mastermind of a sect or something, the young emperor orders troops to save the border but doesn't know they are being held up by the chancellor, then the fl goes to chancellor with a bottle of poison offering her own life on condition that the chancellor would let the troops go, as if her death would benefit the chancellor. Just how bad can a screenwriter drop the ball in the last minute? Does he or she actually take pride to ruin his/her own piece of work at the end?
The ending is too rushed, unclear. what is the story of the wife of the villain Fu Jai Lan? Such a fuss of her power and yet no details on her background. In addition, the young emperor clearly stood up against Fu Hai Lian, had him under house arrest and gave order to send troops immediately. How can he not know that Du Hai Lian has blocked everything and why he can't deal with It? Most cdramas always rush the ending leaving gaps that leave audience wanting.
I love the story, it was a bit hard for me to follow at first because of the family structure, all those brothers forming the "li clan". This having said, Yang Zi certainly knows how to choose her project, it is very befitting to her characteristics. As for the ml, I know he is a professional, but I have always found his looks a bit hard to the eyes, and the voice too. There are other actors I like better, but hey, he has to work too.
I appreciate the casting for this drama, all good choices and role assignments are very befitting. The story started strong in its first half, but as it moves on, the pacing becomes slow and relies on flashbacks to fill up time. Events/cases are developed and brought up but instead of getting closure, they are left open. I have not read the novel and don't intend to till the drama ends to avoid comparison for now. Seeing how the latter part of the drama is, I'd say there is definitely a drop of quality in screenplay . This having said, a shout out to the leads and the sml, they are brilliant in this drama.
I have already started rewatching on Viki... slowly while waiting for new ep release.. Viki Subs are too good...
understand, relying on subtitles is hard work, you do well to rewatch in order to understand better the dialogues, names, places etc. I used to watch a lot of Korean dramas too, but got tired of reading subtitles, at least for now. I am a sucker of Chinese period dramas and being bilingual (trilingual, actually) makes it easy for me to enjoy the contents. The Heir is up and running too, another great period drama, have a look when you have time. π

you wouldn't believe me if I tell you that I stopped at ep.24.. .. I switched to Zhao Zhan adventures..shall go back to A splendid match tomorrow or day after π
I am not too crazy about martial arts dramas especially when mixed with immortals, monsters themes. This drama, a pure martial arts production really takes my breath away, the seguencing, directing, fight scenes are simply top notch.

Zhan Zhao adventures (Yan Yan) came on air today, it has 4 episodes, another two, I think, tomorrow, I think I can do without A splendid Match for a couple of days π.
just started watching and I went immediately to check out the director as the acting, the atmosphere, the background music, the cinematography and sequencing are so gripping (it reminds me of some Japanese samurai dramas). No wonder this drama has such a strong start, the director comes with a great CV!
well, what do you know, damn again this regional restriction bit, it is not on Youku in Europe! Lucky it is on Viki. Don't think I shall renew my Youku subscription when it expires, and this goes with Wetv, too, this regional restrictions are unjust.
