QUOTE: "Maybe you personally have not bullied other people, but plenty of other people have bullied others and I don’t see them getting the consequences they deserve, especially the ones that lead to committing suicide. If everyone knows to judge others for their wrongdoings and know that people shouldn’t behave like this then the world would be at peace and no one would suffer."
This is absolutely true and is an injustice. It's is, sadly, just one example of the ways in which life can be unfair and cruel. Many cruelties have nothing to do with people whatsoever: natural disasters, deadly diseases, crop failures, etc. But many of the cruelties exist as a result of the direct actions of people: from bullies to assaulters to corrupt officials to dictators to murderers to molesters to rapists, to human traffickers to perpetrators of genocide and many things in between. What commonalities do they all share?
They all violate the norms of acceptable human behaviour and they do it as a matter of personal choice with intent. (With exceptions for things that are accidental, in legitimate self-defence, or as a result of a psychotic break, where the individual is wholly detached from reality in the moment.)
If they did not choose to violate those norms for personal gain then the world might have a better shot of being at peace, indeed.
This also speaks to why suffering exists. People choose to break the rules for their own gain and as you put it are indeed "sadistic:" sadistically indifferent to their fellow human beings.
QUOTE: "I don’t believe one bit that the people here who point fingers and judge him has never harmed anyone in either their past or present. Since it seems that so many of you seem to be so righteous, I am pointing this out."
Some people may, indeed, be hypocrites that enjoy appearing noble, but a fair amount of the outrage is likely to be more genuine than that. If no one was sincere about a matter like this, we wouldn't be having this conversation.
Why not? Because as a species, humans would have wiped each other out long before now. The fact that we are here, have spread all over the planet, and made the advances we have made suggest that, indeed, humans can and largely do agree to and follow norms of behaviour. Norms that would sanction such actions would lead to societal instability and collapse. It's also why rule breakers get punished, in general.
It is horrible that there have been so many things that so many have gotten away with. That is one of the reasons why I support victims as I do. At least that is one less instance where someone couldn't get away with it and no matter if it didn't happen for me, I have it within myself to be glad for them, anyway.
I'll embarrass myself and admit that there was a itty-bitty-teeny-tiny-wee-little piece of my heart that broke…
OK, I'm glad to read that translation. I feel somewhat relieved. I don't use Twitter or Instagram, largely because it's too much work to keep updated all the time and for The BL actors and productions so much isn't in English and I can't understand them. Is there anything like a clearer picture, now?
I do like this show. But with the sound turned off. Those sound affects are like a forcefield keeping a lot of…
I'm sure it will. From what I've seen on this board, only nearly universal flops ever end up resting at anything below an 8. For myself, I couldn't care less what score a show has. I love some shows, I like some, I'm ambivalent toward some, I dislike some, and I loathe a few. I, for one, love 1000 Stars. I couldn't even tell you what it's rated at, though, and I completely scroll past any posts that seem to be obsessing about it one way or the other. It's ultimately a meaningless number that has no bearing on the show, for me.
If I'm considering a show that's already been aired, I might glance at the overall score but what is more likely to influence my decision to give it a go is that I review comments, both positive and negative, to see what is said and see if I tend to view things from a similar angle. I can't speak for anyone else.
Sometimes, I want to try a series, regardless of what the comments say. The plot description or performers I like may catch my eye and I just give it a go.

"Quote: "I didn't come barging into anyone's post and I didn't say that the only comments allowed here were universal praise. Clearly, that's not a problem here. I made my post because this show has been review bombed for no reason and the comments all follow a familiar pattern of:
1. I wish this was a different genre! Where's my BL expose? Ugh, I'm gonna keep watching it until it gets darker. 2. I love TharnType and this hurt my feelings. 3. The sound effects are annoying."
OK, this is a valuable insight you have shared. It gives context as to why you posted in the first place. You didn't identify your concern over the review bombs in your initial post.
I can empathise with your frustration with that, given how much you are enjoying the show. I don't think it's really appropriate to give a show a low score and bad review based on just one or two episode, unless they genuinely loathed it.
That said, I sincerely believe that that the MDL score isn't going to harm the shows reception on a broad scale and certainly won't damage it's domestic viewership and reception. I've not seen anything to indicate the the production companies, actors... anyone directly involved pays any attention to an English language board.
Sometimes, when things upset me, I try to look at it by asking myself if I can control the situation. If I see that the score is falling, here, I can reasonably say that what is in my control is to help counter it by giving it a higher score. That's where my control realistically starts and ends. When I see what is mine to control vs what isn't mine, I sometimes find that I can come to terms with it more easily. First, let me say that I like how you obviously put time and effort into crafting your original post. I enjoy reading careful commentary.
I will add for your consideration, though, that there is actually a 4th camp: the people who love the show, as is. Your post would indicate that you, yourself, fall into that camp. Lots of people do.
I do take slight exception, though, in that you seem to think that all of the others are mistaken or wrong for looking at things the way you do and that the only valid position is to love it as is, with no critique or dissention to be tolerated. You may not say that, direct, but is reads as inferred.
Ultimately, we are talking about TV shows and they are enjoyed, critiqued, or disliked in a subjective way. Personally, speaking, I drop shows I thoroughly dislike and don't bother spending time in their forums because I don't see any point to that. In this instance, I like the show enough to continue to watch but I'm not enamoured by every aspect of it, nor am I required to be. Good opinions ideas, concepts, and executions, in general, can withstand scrutiny on their own merits.
QUOTE:"It's especially funny considering the show is popular in Thailand right now too, which means they achieved their goal of appealing to BL fans and the general public. It's only a handful of International fans HERE that seem to take issue with the GENRE of the show when it was never advertised as a grim gritty drama. People are acting like the trailer was serious and dramatic like 1000 Stars and instead they got Lovely Writer, but Lovely Writer was always advertised as what it is. A pink satirical rom-com."
I think it's nice to be proving a hit with it's domestic target audience. As for tone, I maintain that the concept trailer truly wasn't as pink as the show has turned out to be. All of the same lines, were there, but it came off to me as being more subtle, overall, and less overt. I like subtle humour. I didn't expect the show to be a gritty expose. What got me excited for the show was that lower-keyed play of the concept trailer. I found the contrast between the concept trailer and the episode to be jarring.
Other people have similar observations and we sometimes share that with each other in here. No one is forced to read those posts and I haven't seen anyone who has criticisms that say that their way of thinking is the only correct way to think. The show isn't being harmed by it. Lots of people make posts about how much they love the series and all it's aspects. I don't barge into their posts and go after them for feeling that way, and I don't complain about people posting how much they like it. They should gush to their hearts content, just as I do for series that I unreservedly love. Forums like these are about expressing opinions. A different opinion from mine is to be expected. Trolling occurs when people deliberately post with the intent of being insulting and/or annoying. Honestly holding and expressing an opinion that might be viewed as dissenting, in and of itself, does not meet that criteria.
Just because international viewers are not the target audience for the shows, doesn't mean that they can't have opinions. People either domestically or internationally who would like to see more innovative approaches aren't doing anything wrong. The production companies themselves know that they have to come up with fresh ideas and approaches, otherwise the market will stagnate and die. Especially in light of growing international competition.
Lovely Writer appeals to me enough to keep hanging in and watching. I'm not required to love it unreservedly, though, nor is anyone else. That said, I'm happy for those who love it just as it is. I bear no specific animus. Getting overly prickly, one way or another would indicate, to me, a lack of perspective.
Again, it was good to read you considered posts, even if I point out some of the ways in which I may not personally agree with everything you said. =)

Thanks again. It's special. I'm going to try and not rewatch it for a month after it's finished to help it remain special for me. I'll see how that turns out...

Sensitive real world subjects like these inflame our passions and I think that can actually be beneficial. They can be the catalysts for meaningful change in our societies.
I agree with some comments mentioned already. the sexual harassment was exaggerated. he bullied like 10 years…
One thing I'll speak to is this part of your statement:
"I don't think so. y'all suddenly became judges as if you did no harm to others when you were (or are) in middle-high school."
I can say with a clear conscience that I did not do harm to others at that age. Even then, I knew how wrong it would be.I'd already been taught about basic respect and was given first hand instruction in cruelty from the people who bullied me from Elementary.
I also have enough broad life experience, personal and professional, to inform my positions, as opposed to making merely off-the-cuff remarks. I believe that sensitive real world issues like this deserve thought out and informed commentary. I feel fairly confident that I think about the ramifications and bigger picture involved before I post about these kinds of subjects. In short, I personally don't rush to judge.
It's good to see you applying yourself and working on your position. Talking about bullying in general, I truly…
I applaud that you qualified that it's your opinion and you're using word like could. That's a big difference from posts asserting opinions as absolute fact and assuming the motivations of the accusers. (Something many people have done.) I think I've illustrated before why I think differently from your opinions and the rationale behind why I have come to think that way.
What's wrong with that? People have a beef about them. They want to comment. Why should that be a big deal? Does…
Of course not, but you started a specific thread, for it and I replied. The comments likely keep popping up because people are watching the first episode at different times and, for them, it might be their first fresh post about it while some of us watch on the air date. No hard feelings meant.
The only untolerable behavior here is yours, dude =/
And what I'm saying is that he may not have understand the multiple connotations of the word.
A) He's not fluent in English, he's Thai, living in Thailand B) He's gay and may well have never seen or been exposed to anything which would have let him know the original meaning for it. It's not at all impossible that he could innocently believe that the word was simply slang for wimp with no clue as to it's vulgar origin.
I agree that it's use is disgusting but you and I are native English speakers. Unfortunately, there may be many ESL speakers around the world who, thanks to it's appallingly wide spread use in English language media as slang for wimp, might think that, too.
If I thought for a second that he knew, I would be right there with you in calling it out.
I have no words! An absolute MASTERPIECE! This was the type of work that MaxTul deserved and it did not disappoint!…
Agreed. they showed us that they can play beyond the college student stereotypes and this series brought us something really fresh to the BL sub genre. There were some plot holes and very lucky conveniences, but for me, they didn't they didn't detract from how much I loved it. This was in my number 1 spot until 1000 Stars just slightly bumped it out. I love them both, for different reasons. I might have to declare a tie, for myself. LOL!
I'll embarrass myself and admit that there was a itty-bitty-teeny-tiny-wee-little piece of my heart that broke…
All, I can say is that, rumour or not, it won't affect my appreciation for the work they have done or might yet do. In this series, for example, they breathed life into Tan and Bun in a way that no other BL actors I know of could have done. The notion that this could be amounting to some sort of deliberate smear campaign against the actors is really worrying because it would indicate that some fans (I'm not saying you) lack the perspective to distinguish between the actor's works and their personal lives.
At the end of the day, someone should be able to healthily distinguish between the two. If people on instagram and twitter are firing off negative comments at Max over this, they need to give their heads a shake and should be ashamed of themselves for trying to dictate what his personal life should look like.
Is there anyone who can translate what Tul says in the twitter clip? I remember when the special was first announced. Looking at the original poster, I remember thinking "is this some kind of final tribute farewell show for the pairing of the two, together?"
I had thought that because I understand that Tul had plan to go to the US and study. Evidently, Tul's contract with TV Thunder ends next year and he has mentioned a desire to devote more of himself to real estate development. Ultimately, I suppose, we'll all just have to wait and see.
you should be able to see other related links when you call that up. I think if you google Kim Ji Soo bullying, that you can get more, from outside MDL and weave your way though...
