I think you pointed out things that are problems with this drama very well, which is sadly are the common things shared by many cdrama with "profession-based theme". I appreciate that they use real events as basis of this drama, but then they forget that the characters need also to act and behave like their profession. I wouldn't mind so much if they just promote it as pure romance drama, but they have been heavily promoting it as firefighting and doctor drama (with all the BTS, training and stuffs) so one would expect that there will be decent representation of actual firefighter and doctors. But at the end of the day, just like My Dear Guardian, this is just a pet drama using noble profession as gimmick.
I agree with your last sentence though, Gong Jun is the absolute eye candy here :D

I personally think it's good, since I like detective and medical genre (with no annoying character). If you like this genre, I think you will find it good also. The pacing is good, not draggy and there are also comedic elements. Just give it a try first and see if this is your taste.

Please don't be disheartened. This is a remake, therefore it is inevitable that people with compare to the original one. I mentioned that even though Anson is not bad, but I don't feel for him as much as I feel for the original character. I totally understand that the leads are new in acting, but again we can't help comparing to the original version.
That being said, even though there are flaws, I like this HK version a lot, in fact it is much better than I expected. Good production value, clever lines, interesting supporting casts and Edan is a comedic genius. Very few remake will turn out to be a good one, and this is one of them. I hope HK will continue to make quality BL dramas, as we desperately need them.

I agree. Hayashi is really good with the subtle emotions and his eyes are really expressive. I feel so much for Maki, I was close to tears during the heartbreaking scenes T__T
I like this version too, but yeah I don't think we will see the same level of chemistry between Tin and Siu Muk as compared to the original version.

Agree, even though Haruta is more popular, but Maki is the reason I love the original version. Without him, it'd be just an over-the-top comedic drama but Maki provides the emotional side, making it a more balanced show.

It's GJ's own voice. He does have a very nice voice, but I think he needs to work on his line delivery. It wasn't very noticeable in WoH before because it was dubbed. I only understand basic Mandarin, but I notice that sometimes his lines are not smooth and he should work more on the tone and speed. This is also something that is pointed out by many Chinese viewers so it's a fair input.

Finally a FL in cdrama who isn't annoying or act like a 3-years old! Even though she's rather naive, but I don't find her annoying and she is definitely a capable coroner, not like FLs in most cdramas who look like they are cosplaying as doctors or whatever professions they are supposed to be. Thanks to the screenwriter who doesn't treat the audience as fools and actually goes to great length to provide plausible explanations to each case. It's refreshing to see a cdrama where the world doesn't revolve around falling in love, misunderstanding and unnecessary romance drama.

I have watched up to Ep 8, but somehow I kinda lost the excitement to watch. Probably one reason is that Siu Muk is kinda feel flat compared to Maki of the original version. Maki is my absolute fave character in Ossan's Love, he is smart, proud and passionate. He also cares a lot about Haruta and is struggling with his feelings for him. Hayashi Kento portrays his longing and suffering perfectly, that's why I root so much for him. Anson is not bad, but his acting feels lackluster compared to Hayashi, and somehow he doesn't have as much screentime as in the original. I don't feel rooting for him so much.

But Edan is really the star of the show here, I even like this version better than original one. He does have a natural talent to be hilarious. I will continue to watch this for him and to see how much this will stay true to the original.

Just watched 1st ep and I'm already annoyed by the FL. What's up with suddenly sulking at a stranger for not giving her the toy?? I'm so tired of cdrama with adult FL acting like 3 years old, it's not even cute. The rescue mission in the opening is also not very exciting, I watched many medical J-dramas with emergency mission scenes and they never fail to keep me at the edge of my seat and this one is just meh. There is no sense of crisis or urgency. They also suddenly throw a romantic scene with romantic song at the end of the rescue scene, which completely ruins the whole mood.
I guess Gong Jun picked this drama before he got popular therefore not many options available for him. I doubt this drama will bring him to new height, it's just another low budget idol romance drama. I love GJ, but I'd better spend my time rewatching WoH than watching this.

Note: I noticed that in Douban, this drama has 4 screenwriters. OK, now I'm losing more hope for decent and consistent story flow.

Don't believe the rumor. If it's true, WoH would've been taken down in the middle of its broadcast and none of the concerts would be held in the first place if the officials deemed WoH to be too controversial. In fact, WoH has been actively promoted as China's representative wuxia drama to international audience, which further proved that the govt also supported it. Because Immortality and Winner is King haven't been released up until now, many people spread rumors that WoH caused stricter censorship, while in fact it has little to do with WoH.

It's a wise decision to drop MDG early on, I tried to persist until Ep5 and gave up before I lost more brain cells lol. Honestly I didn't expect much from Flaming Heart either, knowing how bad cdramas with profession-based theme. But I'm just hoping that it's not as bad as MDG.

Yeah, I wonder about that too. His acting in The Long Night is amazing and it's critically acclaimed. My personal guess though, compared to the other five, he has the least "idol look" with his beard and sloppy appearance (he often wears oversized top, baggy pants and sandals). If you look at the list, most of them can be considered liuliang actors and look is also one of important factors. BY is handsome, but probably doesn't really fall into the "mainstream taste" kind of look. Just my personal opinion though. But he's doing very well as an actor, he has several upcoming dramas that I'm looking forward to.

There are always ways for people to watch show they want to watch, either it's legal or illegal. Most of the BL shows are also not officially available in China, which is also one of the biggest BL markets, but there are always ways to watch it and become popular there.

The list for the year 2020, while GJ and ZZH rose to fame in 2021. They both were pretty much little known before WOH. The amazing things is the top 3 actors are all those who got popular because of danmei drama and their staying power is amazing (Zhu Yilong has been consistently in the top position since 2018). Hopefully this will give more incentive for professional actors to act in danmei drama so the quality will further improve.
