Is it worth watching?
It has been over a year since I watched it but I think if you’re ok with the typical supporting female characters that are annoying and the lack of real kisses, then you should give it a try.

Ugh, as someone who knows French because my mother’s side of the family is from France and I visit the country every year, and with English being my second language, I am cringing after watching the trailer. I have also read a spoiler somewhere else and it seems the romance is extremely slow. This being 50 episodes and everything, I think I will skip this one.

Totally agree, people who are hating so much on her are either insensible or have never suffered or met someone…
I thought about that possibility for one second after watching the episode that reveals she is alive and she is in front of a mirror making herself look pretty. But that would mean that she had to be a psychopath and had been faking her illness the entire time or something. And what about her picture in the suitcase? She had to at least have been attacked by the subway ghost so she couldn't be him herself. That wouldn’t make sense so I quickly discarded that theory. I think people just wanted some kind of sick plot twist to be satisfied, but there would still be people complaining if that happened.

spleenig in the same bed with people you know but have not a romantic relationship with, is considered normal…
Every night? A man and a woman? And its not like he had nowhere else to sleep. Such a huge house, how can it have only one bedroom? And even if that was the case, there was still that huge sofa in the living room. There is no logical/acceptable explanation for such a weird behaviour.

And I was disappointed with the male lead on many levels. I found it kind of a jerk move that he tried to kiss Sakura while in bed when he wasn't even clear about the way he felt about Yurika and was playing the push and pull game with her. If Sakura hadn't backed off, I am almost 100% sure it wouldn't have stopped at a kiss. It was almost as if he was trying to replace Yurika with Sakura because he wanted to prove himself he was not in love with her. That was very low in my opinion.
I am happy with who Sakura ended up with since her first love was even a bigger jerk. Wish Yurika had found someone better too. If there was a 10 year jump they would be married with him used to her spoiling him, making all these elaborated meals, ironing his clothes, doing everything he wants, while he would probably be having an affair with some chick from his new workplace or something.

Lol
I know someone who says people should pass a psychological test before being allowed access to the internet, and sometimes it makes sense. People just say whatever even if it makes no sense or is just straight out hate on someone or something. Everyone learns from experiences and empathy is not something you can do just out of guilt. Yoo Ryung truly cared for those victims. She put her sister’s case aside and even risked her own life to help them. If that is being selfish, then there are no selfless people in the world. And honestly, its not like she left her sister and only regretted it after going home. She legit came out of it right away and realised what she had done. She went looking for her sister that same moment. She was just so exhausted and frustrated that she could not take it anymore. I dont understand how people can call her selfish.

What the? Sigh
I am honestly considering not watching japanese dramas anymore. I originally got into asian dramas after animes and mangas, but lately I have found myself thinking of japanese dramas in particular as weird. Way too often the actors seem to be overacting. The amount of dislikeable characters always surpasses the amount of likeable ones. There is almost always cheating/infidelity or lack of morals in general. There is always some kind of weird behaviour that is treated as something normal (like sleeping in the same bed with a woman you have no relationship with). And then, somehow, all messes are fixed in an instant at the end.

I honestly did not like Makoto. He is the kind of man that will most likely cause you to have an unhappy marriage. I know because my mother married someone with a similar personality and basically has to make all the decisions because he is incapable of doing it. My father is not dependable AT ALL, not as a husband and much less as a father.

So yeah, I think I will stick with watching only japanese movies for now. Most dramas I have watched in the past few years have been disappointing to me.

They are in no specific order, some I really liked, some I watched until the end just for the sake of completing it. Some are all about school life. some are part about school life and part with them as adults. Just check the ones you havent watched yet and see if you like any. Maybe you will find a comment from me in that drama’s page so you will know my thoughts on that drama at the time I watched. Cause honestly I dont remember it very well after so much time and watching so many other dramas.

On The Gravity of a Rainbow Dec 13, 2019
I actually liked it more than I expected. It seems like your average chinese drama but at the same time it doesnt. Idk, I myself am confused. The title matches the story perfectly because for more than half of the drama gravity was what made things stay in place, then in the second half there was suddenly no more gravity and everything fell to the floor.

I disliked most of the characters, but the ones I liked were enough to keep me watching. Thankfully none of the main leads was part of the characters I disliked. The female lead’s mother really got on my nerves and was full of nonsense but there were 2 things she was right about:
1 - Li Li is not a good person to be around with, not only for the female lead, but everyone really;
2 - Xia Feng is not a good man.

Sadly, she was not as good when judging the male lead because her greed for money took over.

Also, this might have been my last chance of seeing the actor playing the male lead on screen since he recently died at the young age of 35. The happiness he experienced in this drama is something the actor behind the character did not have the chance to experience in real life. T T

Why? I have only seen a few of her dramas and I dont consider her either a good actress nor a bad actress. I am…
Of course, everyone has the right to have their own opinion. I was just curious why you thought that way. But I can understand. I personally dont dislike Yang Zi because I think the first drama I watched with her she played a more serious kind of role, but I do agree that a lot of actresses play very childish roles so its hard to see them in other dramas and not remember that. I personally also cant really connect with most of Dilraba’s roles. But if I have to pick one actress I cant stand, and its not like I hate the actress, I just cant feel anything when she acts, then its Zheng Shuang. After watching 3 or 4 dramas where she played the main lead, I started to avoid her dramas. I felt like she had the same expression on her face no matter what was happening. She acts as if she just got some botox on her face today and is trying really hard to not ruin it. I cant feel her emotions at all so its hard to connect to the character she is playing.

I think I sympathized with Ma Ri more than most. She worked hard to be the best, but was constantly being criticized…
Yeah, although a lot of people seem to be judging the drama only for the crime or the romance part, this drama portrayed 2 very important issues of the society we live in - the struggles of people with disabilities and their family members and how apathy seems to be a real issue. There have been several cases where the lack of action from bystanders caused someone to get hurt or even die. I think this drama taught some really important lessons.

I personally felt moved by a lot of characters. It’s not that I did not feel sympathy for Ma Ri, but with so many characters with bigger problems, hers seemed less important. I actually understand her feelings since I never got any sort of acceptance or recognition from my father even tho I was always the top student in my class since grade school. But I stopped looking for his acceptance as I grew up because I realised he was the same way with my sister, he just doesnt care at all. Even with our mother he is like that. He never took us to the hospital when we got sick or visited when both my mother and sister were admitted there. He is the definition of apathy. So I can relate to Ma Ri in some way, although at least you can tell her mother loves her and just didnt show it in a way that was clear to her.

Yeah. Although he acted like Ma Ri, his reasoning for that was that he knew if he got hurt or even died, his mother would have no one to take care of her. So he started to avoid anything that would put him in risk and that made him temporarily apathetic. Yoo Ryung made the true him come out again and follow his conscience and detective instincts instead of the protocols.

Yup, I loved it too when he did that. Even the second male lead did not know how to react and everyone else was blaming her and he was the only one who understood her. It was one of the nicest things I have seen a male lead do for the female lead.

Thank you. ^^
The male lead himself also had some character development, mostly because of her. He was always playing safe and forgetting it was not only about following protocols and orders. In a way he was like a male version of Ma Ri, which I believe was the only reason they ever dated, because they were very similar in the way they treated cases and life in general. Then the female lead came along and completely changed his world, for the better. Yet people treat her like she was only a source of trouble for him.

I think she was already standing there when the killer showed up. But there is definitely no doubt that she never…
You’re welcome! I went back because I was also curious. That scene was shown like in 3 separate perspectives in the same episode. The first is the subway ghost’s perspective, then it is what the security camera recording (the part that we are shown) and the 3rd time is when the female lead’s friend is telling her what happened that day. So it is hard to reach any conclusion. We were never shown things from Yoo Jin’s perspective. The first perspective is biased since it is a serial killer who lost his daughter’s perspective, the second is a recording and the third is from someone who was not even there during the event. Showing Yoo Jin’s perspective would have shed some light on what really happened.

Exactly. She put herself aside so many times to help other people. So many were helped by her. If she was as selfish as people are making her, she would have only cared about her sister’s case and not put herself in danger to help people she did not even know. Yes, she had many flaws, but that is because she is human. I think people are so used to the typical kdrama plot where the female lead is kind and selfless and does not hurt a fly and the male lead is perfect in every aspect, that they forget how real people are flawed, they are not perfect. I cried several times while watching this drama and most of them were because I could feel the female lead’s pain.

There is a reason why the male lead fell in love with her despite her being so reckless. She was full of empathy which was one of the things most characters lacked and so do people in real life. In fact, if more people were like the female lead, someone would have stopped that mentally ill man from pushing anyone. I can almost see Yoo Ryung in that situation. She would be like grabbing him by his wrist and pushing him down to the floor before the little girl even had the chance to take 2 steps back. And no one would have died.

Ok, I went back and re-watched it and she was there first. Then the girl came and was standing with her back towards the tracks. The killer came and after kind of messing with a few people targeted the little girl. She got scared, dropped her lollipop and slowly started to step back. Yoo Jin noticed the killer’s strange behaviour and instead of avoiding him like everyone else there she looked right at him in the eyes. That triggered him and made him change his target from the little girl to Yoo Jin and push her. I dont think she intended to protect the little girl. She probably stared at him because with her disability she might have not seen that act of staring as a threat to her safety. But to someone mentally ill staring could be seen as a threat which explains why he pushed Yoo Jin.
