One of the cringiest chinese idol dramas I have watched, which is not necessarily bad, sometimes I like cringy. That said, I think they could have explored the parallel worlds theme in a more exciting way. And the ending was not satisfying.
Overall it was an ok drama but far from being one of the best I have watched recently.

This needs a second season to make sense. It is not that I want a second season, the drama itself actually NEEDS it.

I do not get why this got so much hate. I mean, is it a masterpiece or a super good and memorable drama? Not really. But it is at least at the level of any other average Chinese historical drama out there. So why is it getting so much hate? I think there are several reasons, but the 3 main ones are:

1 - people who watched Legend of Dugu first created expectations and started comparing both dramas way before this even started airing. Having high expectations and comparing a drama to one that was good and came out first will most of the time result in disappointment.

2 - some thought this was more of a Palace drama and that the main leads would become Emperor and Empress early on and. They might have even chosen to watch it for that reason. I am sorry and I don't want to spoil it too much but that only happens later on and I personally liked it way more before it reached that point. From then on I felt mostly frustrated although I had read the history behind the drama.

3 - others might have not watched enough Chinese historical dramas so they were surprised by the turn of events OR they did not know this was based on history so as frustrating as it was, especially the later half, things had to happen in a certain way because that was what happened in history.

I spoiled it by reading the Wikipedia's pages on several characters so I knew what was going to happen. Yet I still felt frustrated and even cried at times.

Sure. This is a not a great drama. But this is also not as bad as a lot of people make it seem. And at the end, it makes you think, just like other Chinese historical dramas have done before.

Power, money, hate that is so strong that makes you want to take revenge at any cost, envy and jealousy (a lot of times caused by having more than one wife), these are only a few things that ALWAYS bring ruin to the people involved, guilty and innocent.

Be happy with what you have, value the people you love and never desire more than what you actually need.

Being rich and powerful does NOT bring happiness, it only brings you worries and frustrations and makes you lose the "little" happiness you had when you had less. Sometimes less is more.

And I could have said all this in one sentence: Living in the Palace sucks. XD

I am happy with the ending, maybe that's what i was wishing for..sorry its didn't reach your expectations.
Yeah, me neither. I dropped that drama. I did not like the female lead and I did not think the story was interesting enough for me to keep watching.

Yes to what? I am confused. Lol
I asked if you wanted the link for the website or the link for the drama. Possible answers would be: website, drama or both.

Lee Jong Suk is maybe the only actor in dramaland that finish his dramas no matter what because i love his presence…
I have watched 4 episodes so far and I am not really getting into the story. I hear your voice was also one of his dramas that I liked the most. I wonder if I will be able to finish it, I keep watching other dramas and this one keeps being left for later.

Can you recommend me some with the sane theme?
I cannot think of another japanese drama with the same theme. It is just that I have watched a lot that are very dark but the stories were different. I have watched quite a few japanese dramas lately and noticed this. I usually watch korean and chinese dramas more often and sometimes thai dramas and I have noticed japanese dramas are a little darker compared to dramas from other countries.

I am glad you liked it. I did not say I did not like the ending. I just did not like the female lead’s back and forth and the writing was not able to keep me hooked to the story. I did not have any expectations when I started watching it, but I have watched hundreds of dramas and this one did not stand out from the crowd so I feel that even if I had not watched it I would have not missed anything.

I finally finished it and I don't know how to feel about it I didn't like the romance in the drama but I have…
Yeah, the romance was not the best but that was because in this kind of story it was a side plot and the story could have worked even without it, that is why it did not feel as exciting as in other historical dramas. It still had more romance than the movie tho. And the story and acting were good enough to forgive the not so amazing romance.

If you like korean historical dramas, this is a pretty good one. Not my favourite but one of the ones with the best writting. I watched the movie a few months before this aired and wondered if the drama would be as good. They were able to keep the story interesting enough for 16 episodes and there was more romance than in the movie. Don’t watch this expecting it to be romance focused tho. Yes, there is romance, there are several kisses between the main leads, but the story is not focused on their romance. The romance is just in the right amount for this kind of drama and even if there was none, the story would not really suffer because of that.

So if you are looking for a nice sageuk this is a good option, but if you are craving a lot of romance, maybe you should not watch this atm or you might not see it’s worth just because it does not have as much romance as you expected. Watch it for the story, not for the romance and you won’t be disappointed because you will get both.

Wow, just wow. When I first started watching this I quickly realized that the plot was very different from what I imagined, especially after reading the summary. As episodes went by the story went further away from what I originally thought it would be. Was it a bad thing? It depends. I watched this with my sister and she did not like it, she even said it was a waste of time.

I, although I did find it a little boring at times, was able to see the bigger picture and instead of being disappointed because the story was not what I expected when I first started watching it, I was surprised by how smart it was and at how much it was predictable in things that were not so important just so you would not notice the pieces of the puzzle that were there the entire time and that only started to fit together after the big reveal.

I don’t think I ever laughed and cried so much while watching the same drama. This definitely pulled at my heart strings. And my sister saw it as a "waste of time" because honestly she is one of the least sensible people I know. She could have a person crying desperately in pain in front of her and she would keep a poker face. I, on the other hand am quite a crybaby so I would probably join that person and cry with her/him. Lol

I don’t want to say it is a masterpiece but it definitely had some smart writing.

As a movie, sure, why not? But I agree with what most people said in the comments. In real life , which single girl living alone would bring a complete stranger home no matter how good looking he is? He could be a thief, a rapist or worse - a serial killer. And the ending is kind of tilting and I know I would definitely not react the same way in real life, at least not that easily and not that fast.

Kinda upset that we do not get more moments of them being in an official relationship, instead of running in circles…
Yeah, me too. But I am able to forgive it since they did not give us an open ending. I would be so mad if they ended it without showing us who she picked. I knew he was the end game since the beginning but I just wanted some kind of confirmation.

I would not really tag this as Romance, Slight Romance would be more accurate. This movie is more about youth and working hard for your goals rather than the typical japanese school romance. I liked the movie just the way it is although I usually crave something romance focused. It stood out from the crowd. If you have no expectations, especially related to romance, then you will probably enjoy it as much as me.

I think the concept of this drama was really interesting and I liked it. But I confess I would have changed some things in the plot and I would have made the ending a little longer so some people would not be left confused.
