Not sure why you thought that's what the creators want. From the first scene it is made clear that this is not…
Ha, ha, ha :) If I want to watch Wes Anderson I watch Wes Anderson, I don't need a Korean copy of it. And by the way - I don't watch him, much less crave his Korean copy :)

After the climate of this drama, it seems to me that they want to say something wise, existential. It's just that they chose tools to do so that appeal to some, not to others. To me and to you it doesn't appeal. People have different worldviews, different experiences, different tastes. If I need something existential, I'll read Thomas Aquinas or Nietzsche. I don't need Korean dramas about kidnappers for that ;)

I don't know why you assume that “understanding” this drama is important in other people's lives. It isn't. You like it, for you it is important - great for you. Others will live happily without it :)

Title Mr. Plankton Spoiler
I dropped it during episode 3. It's not a bad drama, it's just....
Yes, I know, he's dying, he wants a little happiness before he dies, and the only woman he's ever loved is just getting wrapped up in a situation that could end in tragedy for her, but it doesn't turn me on. This love of theirs is a doozy. I wouldn't be surprised if he even made her a little baby. But for me, free will is the most important thing. I don't believe in the romance of kidnapping from the altar. A woman should make her own decision and, if it is a bad decision, suffer the consequences. Such a deliverance of someone by force, making someone happy by force, is not good for that person. It may look nice in fairy tales, but in real life it's damn toxic and I know something about it. And he is a stinking selfish person. The guy is dying, so he won't give her a beautiful life, and he's taking away the one she gained by her own efforts. Her fiancé loves her and he's the one who came up with the pregnancy, so if he found out that she couldn't have children, he would come up with something to deal with the mother. He could have a mistress and with her have offspring, as in any self-respecting Korean drama with millionaires :)

Title Face Me Spoiler
"a dark ML with a tragic past but with a good heart"That's a classic trope though. And it's not even limited to…
And did I pass it off as an innovation? :)

I don't mind tropes, and I personally like this one, but what matters to me is how this trope was shown and here it is shown very, very typically, predictably and boringly. Personally, I would have preferred them to show that he is struggling with something first, and only then, gradually raising the tension and curiosity, show that he has a trauma. And not so hammer to the head already in the first episode. I haven't had time to get curious yet, and they've already given me the answer.

What is his next work?
So far I have not heard any leaks or even rumors, It is strangely quiet. Not alarmingly, I'm sure something is being prepared, but perhaps he is now devoting himself to his singing career. In any case, if there are any rumors, I haven't heard any.

Title Face Me Spoiler
I have the impression that this drama was made for Generation Z or even Alpha. Seriously, it's like I'm watching a cartoon for kids. It meets all the criteria on the list: a dark ML with a tragic past but with a good heart, an energetic FL who will protect him emotionally and otherwise, issues very relevant to people who don't yet have to work and worry about paying the bills. Yes, this drama will definitely appeal to viewers around the age of 20. After all, there is no adult there to act like an adult and be a model for someone. The drama perfectly reflects the needs of its time.

I'm disappointed with the ending because:
First of all, it was rushed and chaotic, as if they wanted to close everything as soon as possible, thus it was underdeveloped and a bit pathetic.

I don't like the kind of ending SDJ received. Also it was bland and easy to predict. As for me, not a happy ending at all and was totally unsatisfying, in addition, it left no room for reflection (as in Stranger 2) because it is closed. But closed naively and mealy-mouthed. If SDJ had been really seriously punished, I might have been annoyed, if the case had been swept under the rug, I might have thought it would still come back to bite him, but this ending made them not only stray too far from the Stranger vibe, but in addition from the initial vibe of their own series. It was just badly written.

I don't know if it's a consolation or not, but it looks like the ending is building a foundation for a new drama. I just really don't know if I want to watch the adventures of this investigative team even if SDJ will be there.

I feel personally affected on behalf of SDJ ;) Give me at least one example of why she is out of his league. I…
Yet even the definition you quoted does not convince me of your opinion that SDJ has a narcissistic personality. Unless everyone who craves recognition for their work has it :) One might even venture to say that everyone writing comments on forums and trying to convince others of their points also subconsciously, or not, exhibit narcissistic behavior. Regardless of the definition adopted I do not see this trait in him.

I don't know why you read my comment this way and not differently, but well, that's not my problem. Because for me fiction is fiction, a fictional character is entertainment or not. He is, for me, a well-written and acted entertainment that I do not analyze in terms of a potential husband for me. My comment was about the portrayal of him in the drama and his evolution, not reading into and adding to what we were not shown in the drama. Later, yes, I expressed the opinion that I would love to work with such a man, and I stand by my opinion. Because in my opinion, which apparently differs from yours, for me SDJ is a person who cleans up after himself, and I also didn't notice that his wife had any problem with him. I'm not a fan of fan fiction to elaborate on what happens beyond what the drama conveys. I leave reading between the lines to solve crime mysteries not to guess what the character's marital posse is like off-screen.

And yes, in this series SDJ is a very positive character who has worked hard and suffered a lot to make up for his past bad deeds. He's still a weasel, but that's a talent too :)

I don't know where you got your information about her money helping him with anything, because in the two seasons of Stranger and 8 episodes of this drama there was not a word about it. In addition, they have at least two children, the boy you are talking about and a girl who is older than him. If you pay close attention to what is shown in the drama, not your interpretation, you will see that in s2 of Stranger, when his family was first shown, they did not live richly at all, and the mother wanted so much to protect the children from finding out from the media about their father's kidnapping and possible death, which would have been a huge emotional blow to them, and the Korean media are not among the most subtle.

Of course, you have the right to consider an intelligent man who works hard all his life with no chance of breaking through the invisible ceiling, and dreams of his family living well and being able to afford to send their children to college (which is not an easy thing to do, and apparently his wife doesn't have the money to do so) to be narcissistic. However, if one were to look at her, she is not some pure, holy goddess either. In any case, you didn't give even one piece of evidence showing that she is above his league, you only gave your biased interpretation.

I will add, also biased, that I would love to work with SDJ and would certainly trust in his competence, and at this point in his life I would also trust in his good character and integrity. Because I don't think ambition to provide financial security for his family is narcissistic behavior. We also have many scenes showing what a great mentor he has been to his younger colleagues and how he cares for them, sincerely and honestly, not for selfish reasons. That's the image we got of him in Stranger s2 and here. And, what you probably also didn't notice, SDJ is liked and somewhat respected by his former and current colleagues. He has made mistakes in the past, but everyone in the prosecutor's office knows how widespread corruption is, and I think they know of many bribed prosecutors who are untouchable. In my opinion, since s2, when he proved how competent he is and yet still overlooked for promotions, people have more sympathy, understanding and compassion for him than hostility.

finally, Dongjae's wife is back in episode 7! I still think she is way out of his league, even after he changed…
I feel personally affected on behalf of SDJ ;) Give me at least one example of why she is out of his league. I have the impression that you are transferring your affection for the actress to the character she plays, since we have no information as to her background, education or job (well, unless I missed something) and if you are referring solely to her appearance, that is purely a matter of taste.

I think it's safe to say that Seo Dongjae will win against Nam Wanseong. What's left is the execution and whether…
I think the ending will not be a total victory. Or at least I hope so. A complete victory and a big prize will make it seem like a closure of SDJ's story, and I really want a second season in which he will again face the mistakes of his past.

does this drama get better? just started ep5 and am honestly somewhat disappointed as a forest of secret S1/S2…
I've watched 8 episodes and love both titles, but if you're hoping for a Stranger vibe, don't, it's definitely a different drama. Absolutely do not count on the same, because you will be disappointed. If you approach with a slightly different approach, you can have a great time.
