This drama had an unlucky start because of the accident with the horse which, in my opinion (Let's respect each…
how could it have been an accident if they tied ropes around its legs and neck to yank it to the floor, devastatingly injuring its spine, and leaving it to suffer for a week before it died? that's not something that accidentally happens. i'm just about sure they knew what would've happened (you know...yanking a horse to the ground with ropes while it's running) but simply didn't care, nor for the safety of the hospitalized stunt double. yeah it's sad to have a drama cancelled, but they literally killed a horse for a single drama scene. it's pretty clear it wasn't an accident, it was animal abuse. if it were an animal scene and they truly cared, there would be no possibility of the animal getting injured or even close to dying. please don't try to make light of the situation by saying it could've been an "accident" when it clearly wasn't.
the whole cancel or not cancel thing is an entirely different argument that i don't have an opinion on, but it was definitely not an accident
why have ''happy ending'' and ''bittersweet ending'' tags at the same time?
it honestly does kind of have both. it was "happy" because they technically took the cult down, but also "bittersweet" because her dad wasn't able to be saved from the cult's ideals
it started off strong, but quickly dove into repetitive territory. it probably had to do with the shortened length, but compared to season 1, a lot of the youkai didn't get the development they needed for us to really care. the format was pretty much: mio gets taken advantage of, sharehouse saves her, evil youkai cured, next ep. unlike s1, we barely get any insight into these youkai nor why we should care about them.
also, compared to s1, mio quite evidently regresses as a character. rather than grow to become a stronger, more independent woman that makes her own decisions, she's pushed back into her naive, confused, helpless state that doesn't improve at all. i'm hoping she'll improve in the movie, though i doubt she could reach the level she was at at the end of s1 within a single movie. so yeah, pretty disappointing, but at least this season kept the same feel and youkai storytelling of the first. it's still the found family that we all know and love, even if it wasn't as good.
Sometimes I also watch first episode. But with the goal to watch only that, not to watch the drama. Just because…
that's actually what i do too. sometimes i watch some with the intention to drop or to just "browse the pilot" and i end up loving it. then i put my "browsed pilots" in their own "on-hold" list.
That build up can be trickey... and go either way.
true, that's why i aim for 3-5 because at least you get a good feel for it, yet it's long enough in to be out of the intro. you usually wouldn't even last to 5 if there was nothing worthwhile to continue for
i used to be a heavy pilot dropper. i'd watch only the pilot and based on how i felt about it, i'd either continue watching or drop right away. however, after going back to rewatch some, i realized i could've easily missed some amazing dramas just from judging the first ep.
obviously a drama should have a good first impression and appeal to you early, but some of the best dramas i've watched earned my love and respect over time. some need to take time to set things up, others simply have a rocky start with a worthwhile payoff, or some even only become likable after a certain episode/event. nowadays i find that 3-5 eps are a long enough indication of whether i'll enjoy the rest or not (only if i can bear because some are just SO boring).
but of course, everyone should watch and drop as they please because time is money and money is time. why watch something unenjoyable? why risk wasting time on a drama that may or may not appeal to you?
I am used to Thai and Japanese bl’s and my first Korean bl was semantic error. This was my second one and it…
to my star wasn't one of the first k-bls, but it was one of the biggest ones that blew up and led them to have the whole bl-craze they have now. i haven't watched most of the newer k-bls (except semantic error) but i imagine that k-bls have only gotten better and longer since this one.
but tbh, a lot of k-bls are kind of worse than this one...i wouldn't recommend a lot of the older ones ngl. maybe only where your eyes linger to see where it started. other than that, i'd stay with the newer ones lol
i actually didn't like this one that much even though i thought i would. it felt kind of toxic to me tbh??? i'm forgetting the details now, but i didn't really like how the fml treated the ml and omg the misunderstandings.
one of the best s2s imo. it entirely held up and somehow even felt more intense than the last. while the scene of the woman getting eaten by the hoard of zombies is iconic in s1, i surely think the queen was iconic for s2.
oh how i wish they didn't make it a romance and made saeroyi into a respectable "father figure" or like inspirational senior type of thing. if itaewon class wanted to break the boundaries like they kept advertising themselves doing, then they could've and should've strayed away from the forced romance and the horrible kdrama cliches at the end. forced romance, character assassination, eyeroll-worthy event that pretty much happens in every kdrama and makes me instantly dislike the show (has to do with fml), it started off so so strong and then promptly crumbled to pieces. i'll forever miss the awe i had in the first half. we'll just pretend the second doesn't exist.
Finally Netflix is doing something right by bringing season 2 of good shows.i wish they would do season 2 of extracurricular…
i'm pretty sure they were planning to, esp with that ending, but they prob held back because of kim dong hee's scandal and most likely won't make a s2 until it completely blows over
