Review Monstrous
so are you saying the plot was underdeveloped or the characters? or are you saying both?

i thought it was a good watch. it's not anything mindblowing, given the short runtime, and don't expect to get good character development or relationships. but for what it was worth, i think it's an enjoyable mini series that has a solid premise. unique story with some good violence. really reminds me of dark hole's atmosphere and storyline. it's a good watch if you have nothing else to watch or in the mood for a little turn-your-brain-off horror.

Person Kim Soo Hyun
I think tgat he is an amazing actor that is why he is number 1 on the flower leader board
i mean, you can kinda say that about many other actors, but what makes soohyun stand out so much compared to them? esp not having that many big roles

yes, I am enjoying this drama. It is a slow burn slice of life drama.
i'm usually hit or miss on slow burn. how slow does it feel? i'm just slightly worried it'd be too slow, but idk i also love slow sometimes LOL

this is definitely the type of drama you should watch if you're more of a story/concept fan than a character fan. the first five episodes are amazing. they're intense, the mystery execution is done well, and the reveals and plot twists are satisfying. ep 2 in particular was easily my fave ep. however, ep 6 kind of makes everything go off the rocker. some things that happen are eyeroll-worthy and some are so unbelievable it's hard to believe it was the same show.

overall it was a fairly solid watch with beautiful cinematography and an addicting story to follow. i loved the concept, but yeah the ending really makes it fall flat. that being said, i still highly recommend watching for the first five eps. they're amazing if you're a fan of this genre.

I also wouldn't call it a typical bl. It is a mlm story with real portrayal of what they face in conservative…
ugh exactly. i stopped watching "bl" because of how it's just become a fetishized trend now. obviously it was a trend before, but it's REALLY taking off now, esp with korea, and they just mask it by saying it's "representation." i just hate how they say it's representation and then create a whole other sub-genre for it. i don't see the sub-genre "straight love" anywhere lmao. i'll still watch a little here and there (like bad buddy, semantic error, and most jpn ones), but ones like this feel like cream of the crop.

i enjoyed this way more than i thought i ever would. the mystery/crime side of it was quite satisfying and tae seo is an incredible anti-villain(?). props to lee jae kyoon for pulling off such a nuanced and complex character. the romance is sweet as well. pure fluff material. while the comedy is the over-the-top sound effect forced jokes type, i still didn't really mind it. there were still a few parts i laughed at here and there. the best part was easily the found family between the two trios. overall, it's a very solid watch with a good mix between romance, mystery, and comedy (ig?). i'd recommend if you're looking for a fairly lighthearted, yet satisfying drama.

i think it's mostly because people are sick of everything having romance. no matter if the genre is romance, comedy,…
i definitely agree with you on that. it's probably because western "romances" are so much more sexual and fast paced, while asian ones focus on the actual falling in love part which i loveeeee. i certainly love a good romance here and there. i mean, tbh i really love romance too, it just depends on my mood usually. sometimes i'm like "NO ROMANCE PLEASE" and other times i want to watch purely for a romance lol.

but seriously, thank you for being so understanding. when i was rereading my stuff i was like "uh oh, i hope this doesn't sound too aggressive" which is why i added the end bit. you're too nice T^T happy watching!!! i hope we both end up liking this one when it comes out hehe

i think it's mostly because people are sick of everything having romance. no matter if the genre is romance, comedy,…
they do say it in the tags as "slight romance." i think vincenzo has it, but it isn't in one of the top tags sadly.

but that's the thing though. if people can't question why some need to watch romance as a requirement to watch a show, then why do they question the people that want to watch shows without any romance whatsoever? i've been asked SO many times how/why i'd ever prefer to watch a show without romance and it's just because sometimes i'm not in the mood yk?

people aren't against those who watch shows with romance as a requirement, they're just tired of that line because when someone asks that question then that's all the show becomes: a romance. regardless of how good the show is, how amazing the writing is, how incredible the acting is, when someone asks that it's simply reducing everything down to whether there are shippable characters or not. you have every right to love and ask whether it has romance, but in turn, others have every right to get tired of seeing it over and over again.

to me, it almost feels similar to if i went to a romance and asked "are the main characters hot? i'll only watch if they're hot." i have every right to only watch if the main characters are "hot," but that's what i'm reducing the show down to: whether they're hot or not. obviously if i asked that, people wouldn't like it.

at least questions like "what's the relationship dynamic between the leads?" or even something like "if there's any romance, which characters is it between?" feel more personalized than just "is there romance?" which makes it feel more like you're watching just BECAUSE there's romance than for the show or characters itself. and if it's someone's favorite drama because of something other than the romance, it can get upsetting seeing people only care about it because of a ship.

but this is all entirely my own opinion. of course you can feel free to agree or disagree. i'm not blaming or accusing you or anything. this is purely just me trying to clarify my view on this. i'm not intending on "arguing" or anything so i apologize if anything comes off as aggressive or offensive. it's hard to control tone from typing online.

I'm noticing more and more people these days are against romance in dramas. Why? It doesn't have to take up the…
i think it's mostly because people are sick of everything having romance. no matter if the genre is romance, comedy, action, mystery, friendship, sports, fantasy, action, etc, it almost always has some kind of romance in it. not everyone likes romance or can relate to it in any way so it's refreshing to see dramas that have none at all (or even hint at it).

vincenzo worked because the whole point was that it was a genre mix, but a lot of others aren't, yet they still throw in some couple just because. though i'm not sure i even enjoyed their romance tbh. i honestly think i would've liked it better without. plus, vincenzo is a lot longer than most so they can sneak in romance a lot easier. i personally don't like seeing romance in most action/thrillers because almost 99% of the time they just do it so the woman becomes the man's "weakness" and she's probably kidnapped or smth. tired of it.

i also think a lot of people get tired of seeing the line "does this have romance in it?" because not everything needs romance to make something good or watchable. sometimes adding a forced romance can take away from someone's experience (aka people who don't like romance or aren't in the mood). it can make it less relatable, less realistic, and less immersive. if you go into a show expecting to watch an exciting crime thriller only to have to sit through romance when that's the one genre you wanted to escape, you probably wouldn't enjoy the show very much, especially if it negatively affects the protagonists.

for this show, the romance seems very secondary and according to the webtoon there shouldn't even be any romance at all. when nearly every kdrama includes some kind of romance, sometimes all people want to do is escape it. even with dramas that don't include romance, two characters could look at each other and fans would ship them. there are always more relationship types than romantic. imagine in every single romcom, halfway through someone gets murdered and they have to figure out who killed them. it'd feel so out of place. that's what romance can feel like in non-romance dramas. it's not what i wanted to watch.

and while i'm genuinely happy you've found the genre you love most, not everyone loves the same thing. you might be a big romance fan, i might be a big mystery fan, someone else might be a big sports fan, they all don't need to mix. adding romance might make it better for you and it might make it worse for me. you asked why more people are against romance nowadays? simply because not everyone likes romance. even if there's a little bit.

this drama really gives me similar vibes to mr. queen tbh. the slapstick comedy, the over-the-top female lead, the serious yet warm-hearted male lead, the back-and-forth with VERY unlikable villains, some star-crossed lovers romance, kind of revenge, the quick mood/genre changes, and even the longer series length. i can't stop thinking about how similar they are now ever since i made the initial comparison.

this isn't the type of drama you can call "good" or "bad," people just enjoy watching it. it's a lighthearted, cliché, and comical romance. it's not gonna be a masterpiece so no need to go into it expecting one, even if it has high praise or a high rating. if you don't like it, it's just not your thing or you were expecting something else. doesn't mean it sucks. let people like what they like. sometimes it's nice to just turn your brain off and watch a cute fluff.

i don't really understand why they built the second lead so much instead of the main lead. they could've given at least a few more scenes to sort of justify why fml likes him, but like.......while i thought it ended nicely, it really took me out of it around eps 10-15 cuz it made absolutely no sense to me. at one point i nearly forgot he was the main love interest. at least eps 16-20 picked the show back up. vivian is a great actress, i must say.
