Depends what you're looking for. If you want heart-wrenching love story, wuxia action etc, no, this drama doesn't have these. But if you're a history buff and like close to real life historical experiences, this one is very close. Many of the characters are real historical figures. The costumes, etiquette, how they speak etc are pretty closely adapted (I feel). It's refreshing to view Chinese autocracy with democratic values. References to ancient Chinese philosophy and wisdom are the essential part of this drama. I'm enjoying it.

I know right, why do they like to use such high pitched female voices all the time? Can't stand those who purr to the men either. Men like that? I get goosebumps.

Using it as a background drama, you call that not bad? Good idea though XD

Nothing much you'd lose. Come to think of it, Zheng Ye Cheng's characters always end similarly - die but not dead, or simply disappear into oblivion.

What an ingenious idea you have here! When I first watched Nirvana in Fire, I was totally confused because there were so many characters introduced rapidly and I didn't know who was who; some characters looked alike to me. Wish I had known your method then :)

Don't judge the Jian Bu Zhi character too soon. I think he's a master of 点穴. This is an art of fighting without blood, but can kill, or can heal. Many wuxia masters know this art form. When hit on certain nervous points, the person can faint, not move, not speak or even die. I think in the earlier episodes, he does mention something about this art form practiced by his family, but he doesn't remember it anymore.

Well, she's kind of adopted by Tang Fan when he rescues her from the brothel, and takes her squatting with Sui Zhou, and she 'adopts' them as her brothers.

What makes a good actor is, whatever roles he/she plays, he/she gets the response from the audience as expected of the characters. Xu Hao is such an incredible actor. As Jiang Tan in The Love Lasts Two Minds, she wasn't a likeable character, but in this drama as Wen Xiao Nuan, she is so adorable and fantastic. Love her!

Oh no, Dong (the hair stylist) is going to be one of his women T_T. Poor Empress.

I love that little Huirou. Who doesn't? I bet all parents wish to have such a precious girl for daughter.

Those bashful smiles with the fluttering puppy looking eyes .... precious! Darren Chen is a genius!

Just checked his bio. Wow! He's a veteran; he's done so many dramas. He's a wonderful child actor. There are so many great child actors in this series.
