This was a masterpiece, 10/10 for sure. They just somehow manage to keep topping these RK films. The cinematography is the prettiest it's ever been but from the looks of it, RK The Beginning will look more stunning. The music too, I think it has the best music in the series so far, always had the perfectly fitting music in the background during scenes. The fights absolutely don't disappoint here, the last fight was especially jaw-dropping and tugs at your heartstrings because Enishi had every right to be frustrated as he was. Mackenyu as Enishi was damn intimidating; he was so quick on his feet and terrifying. You can really feel his pent-up anger that's been building up after all these years through his fighting and in his voice and you can't help but feel for the two of them. I didn't see that ending coming and it made me smile. And of course, ONE OK ROCK's Renegades at the end to top it off!
Now I don't know how am I supposed to wait for The Beginning ;_;
edit: ik anime/manga fans aren't too fond of how they dealt with certain things but I'm only familiar with these films so I enjoyed it for the most part
can anyone tell me why is this considered spin off of Rikokatsu? both the leads are not in the parent story so…
This is a 'Paravi' production, an original story of Rikokatsu which is a TBS drama. The story of this couple planning to divorce takes place in parallel with the main story as the drama takes place in the same apartment that Saki & Koichi live in and their apartment is actually one floor above Saki's room.
Other than that and it also having the same theme about divorces like Rikokatsu, it has no relation to the main drama as far as I'm concerned (I haven't watched it myself)
Maybe I'm reading too much into this but were they hinting at Nao possibly having an interest in Kaede? In EP1 & EP2, we get to see Nao being touchy-feely with her, praising her a lot, being really close to Kaede and was very worried for her health too in EP2. Plus, even put up a schedule for when Kaede has her badminton tournament. She even said "I think about badminton all the time" in EP2 when Kaede was annoyed with her basically saying she has nothing to do in life, assuming Nao got interested in badminton watching Kaede play or Nao used to be her trainer/helper (which there hasn't been any mentions of this so more likely the former). Seeing how they like to emphasize they're in the Reiwa era and how there's a gay character in this, were the writers trying to hint that Nao liked her?
But all of that stopped afterwards so maybe I am looking too much into it after all.
Just the little details Satomi does with her performance as Mio, sitting like she has a mermaid tail, runs with her hands to her side like she's fast swimming under the sea, all the ecology & ecosystem info she talks about ever so enthusiastically etc.. you can never forget she's not human no matter how human she acts like or appears to be. Plus, Satomi making her voice softer and more gentle playing this delicate, soft character like Mio <3 didn't notice this at first and completely forgot she has a lower voice compared to her voice as Mio here
Trying to catch up to this drama but that female militant and the novelist are so unlikable, every single thing they do pisses me off. Sorry to the actors but I fast forward every scene they're in.
Thank you to the subber for putting the lyrics of the OST in the last 10 minutes of EP6, really made that scene better!
did some of the scene were shot before the pandemic?
Possibly but idk for sure. After all, DZ2 was supposed to air last year but got postponed thanks to the pandemic. I don't know which scene you're talking about but it's possible they might've shot some? Though I know Abe Hiroshi & Nagasawa Masami started their crank-in this year so.
Would love to see them two in another project again with better writing and directing. The last 15 minutes of…
That long, passionate kiss at the end was so unexpected since they usually pretty much show everything in the episode previews :o
Also everyone in Koipuni needs to learn how to brace their fall, everyone just seems to love falling directly on their heads on the concrete and getting concussed lol
I'm actually surprised they didn't go full fantasy on the ending, like show her coming back as an actual mermaid or a turtle but her coming back was still a bit reminiscent of Urashima Taro's ending but a different take on it, instead of Taro (Rintaro) turning into a crane, it's Otohime (Mio) turning into a human (assuming she's an actual human now) and coming back to Taro so I find it to be a good ending :) I also like how Rintaro doesn't pester her with questions like asking what exactly is she or how is she going to the sea etc etc, he just accepts her for who she is <3
Would love to see them two in another project again with better writing and directing. The last 15 minutes of EP9 just best shows off their acting and their chemistry performing together, they know how to pull you in with the feels~
At first this drama seems like it's your usual cute light romcom with some cliche tropes thrown in there but there's also hints of fantasy in this as well (more specifically the characters and stories are loosely based on the Urashima Taro folktalke). Plus, they too cover and bring awareness of environmental issues and occasionally share ecology & ecosystem knowledge in every episode which is not often talked about in dramas. I wouldn't say this is a must-watch drama compared to other dramas from this season, but if that sounds appealing to you or you're a fan of Ayano and Satomi, do give this a try and watch 3-4 episodes to see if it's for you. I personally wouldn't be watching it had it not been for the two leads' acting and chemistry carrying this drama but I still like it despite its flaws. That being said, I'm gonna miss seeing them both every week lol because their chemistry together was off the charts, one of Satomi's best pairing.
I hope the Yoneyama (& Kishimoto?) vs Sakuragi plot starts late in the drama, the first half doesn't need that…
Yeah I did realize that eventually but I still feel like the lines they gave him at the end of ep1 where he threw that dart sounded sinister, you know? So when I was looking at it back, it feels out of place at this point knowing he isn't that kind of person at all.
Now I don't know how am I supposed to wait for The Beginning ;_;

The song is so perfect for this drama <3 the lyrics, the melody

Don't forget to watch the special as well!
Plus, back number's 'Phantom Thief' is such a lovely song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1DPldNasDgY
edit: welp didn't quite get it, turns out it's more like a reversed version of Urashima Taro
