It’s been conflicting because he’s been written without flaws, equal standing, nothing to blame for and doing everything right. It’s easy to ignore the SML if he’s a bad guy. Otherwise you keep thinking if you’d actually not mind such person IRL instead.

I don’t think they over reacted. That Lin household is shitty, everyone knows it. Xlx survived it once with everything she had, no one would want their kid to go back there, esp. it defying their social structure. Obv they don’t know too much about how a decree affects such thing, but their reaction is understand able for sure
