I actually enjoyed the firecrackers this time, although I don't like them much when they interrupt my sleep. They're illegal where I live too, in town at least, but no one cares.

Aww, that sounds like a lovely birthday! Cheesecake~I'm jealous!

Yeah, this morning everyone was talking about the plane crash. It was a little scary since the airline was Asiana, the one we all just took from LAX to get to Korea xD But yes, so sad!

This is my blog, although there is nothing there; I will post sometime this week, though: http://sassyfrastea.wordpress.com/

I didn't see any fireworks in the air, but I got to hear enough firecrackers last week that I am at least partially mollified.

Happy (late) Birthday!!! Did you do anything else fun?

I will try to do so! I halfway set up a blog before I left, and I'll try to put up some pictures and stuff soon.

Hoop skirts are pretty cool, at least literally. We do have quite a few places. We only volunteer at a couple, and sometimes even get paid a bit. But there are enough places around we have many friends who make a living off of it.

I hear ya, I don't always have the patience for them either!

Well, I'm leaving tomorrow, so you may not hear from me for a few days. Have a glorious 4th and a lovely weekend, and the next you hear from me will likely be from Korea!

I don't know of somewhere to pick blueberries commercially, but my cousins have several berry bushes. We just have strawberries cause we live in town. But it's 60 degrees today, it should be close to 100.

Mid 18th century clothes look lovely, but are soooo heavy. Regency is nice because they don't use corsets! Well, lets say my Mother's age people wear lightweight stays which are about as bad as a girdle, and girls our age don't have to wear one. And the clothes are lightweight and free to move in. Thirty years later, and you're back to really horrible corsets. Civil war ones are really horrible.

The other thing we do is volunteer at this local farm that used to be a strict religious colony of German immigrants. It's circa 1840, but since they weren't into fashion for religious reasons, they don't do corsets, either ;)

Are they silk, or synthetic? I have a synthetic slippery one that's heavier than silk and it doesn't drape well either, I have to do more simple things with it, like doubled over and end through the loop.

No worries, and thanks for the recommendations! I've been eyeing Heartstrings for awhile, so I guess Heartstrings it is as soon as I'm settled.

This would look cute in a sleeker scarf: http://pinterest.com/pin/173740498095401766/

http://pinterest.com/pin/301952349986967763/ Would be great for fall or spring

http://pinterest.com/pin/301952349986967796/ This could be adorable with a short, full sundress, but I'm not sure I could pull it off.

I don't like most of the ones on here, but #25 I do sometimes with a lightweight rayon or cotton: http://www.lilliansshoppe.com/scarf-tying-101.shtml

For lace wieght or sport weight knit scarves in large squares, I tend to do shawls like this: http://www.straw.com/cpy/patterns2/accessories/PSilkDKShawl.html
or the black one on this: http://evestarr.com/?page_id=218
or just tie in the middle and maybe add a broach.

I don't know, I would also say body type matters somewhat. If you're less curvy, you could wear the fuller drapes up top. I'm a little more curvy, so I'd wear something sleeker that lengthens my body visually. Thin scarves you can fold up or blouse out, and the thicker the scarf the simpler I tend to go. Mostly I wear silk ones for dressier occasions and cotton or rayon ones with sweaters with one loop over the neck, and thick ones with a coat with one tie or putting the ends through a doubled over loop.

Sorry if this has too many details or stuff you already know! Or you can mention what style you normally wear if I skipped it.

http://shop.nordstrom.com/c/scarf-video This might be helpul? She uses a heavier weight scarf on this first set, the rest are really light weight in different widths.

For winter weight scarves, these are some good ties: http://www.kinowear.com/blog/how-to-tie-a-scarf-9-tying-techniques I know the models are guys, but I use #3 and #4 a lot.

I really love the silk scarves, and wear this a lot when I'm out shopping or when it's really windy: http://pinterest.com/pin/173740498095401860/ I'd use a square silk one or or a very wide very thin cotton one; or like this: http://pinterest.com/pin/173740498097417936/

I have a very narrow (4" by 12"?) beige and pale blue silk chiffon one with a ruffled edge I knot just once around my neck or pony tail in the summer. I like the sleeker look more than the fuller bib looks, cause I end up looking 60 in some of the ones like this: http://lockedoutfashion.blogspot.com/2012/09/how-to-wear-square-scarves_20.html

I think they finally opened the strawberry fields this week actually. Usually they open in May though, right after the blueberries. We are still having the wonkiest weather though, this week it's been as cold as April.

Ooh, what period clothes do you dress up in? We always did 1804 era stuff when we used to work the tourism area in town.

Oh my, they kept you five hours overtime? They at least paid you for that, right?

Well, I consider cardigans to be sweaters, I wear them often too. Hmm, it could be that you need the appropriate weight scarf to get it to drape like the picture. If the fabric's different, that could make it look funny.

Ah! I love strawberry picking! Ours aren't quite ripe yet though. We're about an hour away from STL. I've been up in the arch twice, I think. I'm not sure if we'll get to go to the city cause it's a kind of busy weekend for my parents, and my friend is more of a homebody anyway. I'm planning to take her into my town, though. We're the original state capitol so we have some historic stuff, including the oldest building west of the Mississippi.

Aw, having a bad work environment is the worst :( Is it really stressful?

It's /crazy/ how much one little room, or even a couple suitcases, can fit in them, until you have it all spread out! I love empire waisted tops, too! Universally flattering silhouette ftw! Oh, see I like being warm all the time, I wear sweaters in August.

I tend to wear scarves over solids or plainer tops and it kind of depends on the scarf how I tie it. Did you want recommendations for how to drape them?

Oh, no worries! I wasn't around much myself for awhile, my notebook broke at the end of May, completely not backed up, and it's still at the shop >< Hopefully it comes back to me before I have to leave.

Exactly, as long as it's something you love. I like crafts, but I usually work on something for awhile, put it in the closet for a few months (or years. I'm terrible.) and eventually come back to it, so hobby rotating is how I roll.

Illustration could be such a cool job! Have you heard of Kay Nielsen? I'd want to be a textiles designer, if I designed anything. Are you on summer break now?

Same here! Have you seen 1 Pound no Fukuin? There is a scene in that that would fit right in!

Yes! Friday and Saturday! I'd like to take her into St. Louis to sightsee, but we probably haven't the time. That's ok though, we can have plenty of fun together in an empty room. Well, I think it is a cool job, but maybe for her personality it's not the best fit. But it takes time to find the perfect job, these days.

Oh gosh, my room. Well, I have my lists from last year I'm working off of, and today we sorted through everything except some of the clothes, so two more days oughta do the packing bit. I love accessory scarves! Although I don't wear them every day. Do you have a favorite type of clothing? Mine are sweaters and tights, hands down.

Unfortunately, yes. I had several food allergies as a kid (corn, soy, nuts, chocolate, etc.) Not enough to be dangerous, but enough to make me miserable. They most of them are gone or much less severe now. It's the things like perfume and glade that still get me. Oh, and this allergy to crab that I apparently developed last year in Japan. My mom made me get an epi pen to take to Korea, since it's a common food there and they don't really get allergies, just like Japan. I'm planning to never have to use it, though.

Did gluten bother you your whole life, or just in recent years? (sorry if that's a personal question!) My cousin started having problems with it in college, because she was under so much stress, the doctor thinks. I would appreciate it if you find the recipe back someday, thanks!

Oh, and stuffing the face one, I was always amazed at how my Mother's elegant and mature Japanese and Korean friends manage to cram the largest mouthfuls in at after church luncheons...although I did realize why they love chopsticks so much: you could never fit that much food on a fork or spoon at one time!

My family definitely collects books too, it is a permissible flaw in my opinion ^^

Oh no! I'm sorry you had to pay for it :( I used to have severe food allergies as a kid and I definitely paid every time I ate chocolate, but fortunately it's ok now as long as I don't eat too much. Do you mind sending me the gingersnap recipe, if it's not too inconvenient? Those sound really good!

My friend is coming Friday afternoon! ^_^ She's working for an agency that links bilingual workers with Japanese companies that have branches in the US but her goal is to do media translation. She'd probably make a good teacher though. I really need to finish cleaning my room before she gets here!

I just realized I have only 11 days left to pack and do all the other things I need to do O.o But today was a start. I filled a laundry basket with stuff to pack and you can almost see the dresser scarves now.

Ah, Nodame was a good one! I had a professor who was exactly like her, except 30 years older and much scarier. I'm taking forever to finish Legal High, which I have been decently entertained by. I'm torn between starting Beginners, rewatching You're Beautiful, and starting a Kdrama I haven't seen before. Do you have a lighthearted Kdrama to recommend? I really need to practice Korean ><

My book shelves, too ;) Library sales are also pretty awesome. Equitation sounds like an interesting class, the relationship between horse and rider would be cool to learn about.

Aw no, gf must be tough! But I'm sure it's nice to have no pain. Cookies are definitely awesome! Fortunately, there are some really good flourless cookies out there.
