just watched a video from RottenMango about chinese actress who went viral for being very unlikeable towards her castmates and her husband. Wondered why the husband looked familiar... and just now connected the husband is Zhou Yiwei!
I am rewatching this and i remember why it left a bad taste in my mouth. She chose every one, her clan, her ex…
*nods aggressively in agreement* to be fair, the original title was Monarch Industry though, so it made sense that after everything, she would choose to continue the cycle of monarchy--
just realized I've dropped all the drama written by the same screenwriter with this drama :( i felt like she tend to write good, layered script but at the same time it's very draggy and become lot less interesting at the end. finger crossed this drama is not going to end that way too!
i mean.. yexian's death does not feel unnecessary. it's a part of his character arc and a huge part in making the court sending troops to aid in the border. But not showing it clearly and just ended it with his mum and sister hurting themselves is not the way it should be wrapped :(
this drama would definitely benefit from a short epilogue showing everyone being happy but still getting reminded with sacrifices the past characters made.
In novel-to-drama adaptations, male protagonists are rarely allowed to behave like men of their own eras. I understand…
I think the depiction of the Gu father is (well, maybe. since we didn't know exactly) historically correct! I mean.. he didn't apologize to jinzhao till the end and still think he's very much blameless lol
can you list some examples of what you mean? I'm curiousthe only thing I can image being different is there being…
often times they are depicted as more loving in the dramas compared to the source material. I inclined to believe back then they behaved more like in the novel
The subtitles are perfectly fine. Complain to your pirate site about messed up subtitles :(
IMO viki delivers the best subtitle because it was subbed by fans! i felt like the subbers there are subbing with passion so the subs is so satisfying!
I decided to read the novel before watching the drama. I surprisingly really enjoyed the novel despite being icked…
I love the change they made for Gulan's character! i know that these days cdrama keeps pursuing female empowerment through characters doing 'we can beat men' schtick but somehow it felt very lipstick with how they still let evil patriarchal men go with slap on the wrist. Making Gu Lan and her concubine mother less evil and more humane and in turn Jinzhao being supportive when Gulan was bullied is much more empowering!
