Yeah I think because nowadays entertainment market in China is overcrowded so it's super competitive, you can't get a drama with just a pretty face anymore. You have to offer more than that in order to get a main role. Especially during this drama winter.

Episode 11 and 12 are excellent! from the preview of episode 13 and 14, it seems they are following the book. Also 11 and 12 is the starting of 2nd book in the series! They sure move hella fast! But I like it because all the actions and angst happened in 2nd book.

I don't know about Cui but Wu Jiayi graduated from Opera Academy School so all the dance was done by her looking at behind the scenes.

From what I read on magazine promotion interview with actor, comedy tag is for the beginning of the drama plot, the starting point before male lead character's growth rather than the whole drama as a comedy genre.

I must say, they did simplify a lot of the plot in the novel that I think can be engaging in the drama, for example episode 9&10 they wasted a whole two episode on unecessary plot. but other than that I am fine with how plot goes for now, episode 11 and 12 they is awesome they went back to plot in the book. And yeah that as well, novel is completely Li Xuan's centric, in drama they focus on So Youlian way too much, and her background isn't that twisted as Li Xuan but I guess the drama wanted to keep that for the 2nd part of the series considering this is just 28 episodes

In the novel, nope, because during the war his parents fled but was eventually killed when they hide baby Li Xuan in the forest for a moment and goes to distract the one who chased them, but of course they never come back, and eventually a villager saw him while hunting in the forest and rescue him to a run down orphanage which he don't like, kids there bully him. Hence, he never had memory of his parents nor his nature because he was a baby. Actually he's the one who accidentally release the frozen guy after entering the academy and the frozen guy saw Li Xuan great power and hailed him as the new Dragon Emperor and urge him to lead battle against the human. But of course Li Xuan don't know what the hell he is talking about.

Actually this scene already done in the drama when Li Xuan broke the seal on Qilin, supposedly that's the breaking point of Li Xuan's identity.

It's hard to say what's her motive in the drama because she is completely different in the novel, in the original novel she is competitive to the point of don't mind killing Li Xuan to get the number one token (in the novel everyone tried to kill Li Xuan to get that token not just Youlian, it's like they take turn every night who is going to kill him and Li Xuan secretly enjoyed this because this is the first time in his life that people acknowledge his existence compared to outside world which is sad) But in the end she fell in love with him so I don't know if the drama gonna stick to that. Lol understandble

long wei er is the 2nd prince disguising as a guy. In the novel there is no royal family, Long wei er tricked Li Xuan into helping her to get accepted into the academy.

In the novel, to be honest there are barely romance in the novel, it focuses on Li Xuan's journey in discovering his identity. He has a crush on Su You Lian and Long Wei Er has a crush on him. The novel is darker than the drama, so I think this drama took a completely different route in terms of romance than the novel.

Watched 8 episodes so far and I'm cracking up at almost every scene. Xu Kai's acting is just gold. Smooth and natural. The supporting actors did a good job as well. The only complain is the CGI but i guess they tried hard with small budget and it doesn't feel it distract from the plot. Hope they csn keep this momentum until the end.

P.S : I read the novel, both series, and it is totally different from the drama, the only same thing remain is the characters and the Academy lol but the plot still looks good.

Same title "Tianwuji" the novel actually consist of two book series.

Once Upon a Time is brilliant! but of course if you like to see Xu Kai acting all serious and handsome than this genre is definitely not for everyone.

I recommend watching the first 20 episodes as it was excellently done, but later on the character development became jumpy and Lin Xiang's scene was thrown in unnecessarily, new character introduced only to make mistake and create another unreasonable
story arc. I would still watch it until the end, just that I lost the excitement on 21st episodes onwards. You can try watch amd judge it for yourself.

The story gone well up until they decided to loop the Luo Feng arc instead of focusing how Lin Xiang's condition deteriorate or the actress didn't portray her well as she keep whining, and now they are looping again with Song Qian arc, the plot became meaningless when I started to predict that Song Qian will get injured when he insist on doing his own stunt, it is very unfortunate they messed up at the back because they were handling the pacing and plot very well the first 20 episodes.

Yeah, and the fact that this show passed the censorship and acquired licence to broadcast, the government only decided to ban it after the show went viral around the world which they think will effect their current government image.

The plot collapased episode 22 onwards for me, waay too much Lin Xiang, I don't care for her growth or whatever, she doesn't have one. It's really too bad, because this drama was excellent from the beginning until 20ish episode. Definitely will still finish the show though because the acting are good.

That's what I don't like about pairings fans, they like to go to actor unrelated page and comment things like that unnecessarily, it's not good for the actor's career not mention annoying to see.
