I get the same feeling after watching both of these movies. Not much dialogues going on but you still fully understand the situations through the character's emotions. And both movies touch the family issues, a kind of movies which makes you "think" a lot i guess.
Coming of age, high school students, finding oneself, basically the same theme of teen and discovery.
In both dramas there is an adorable leading lady and an equally adorable mother of the leading man. The mother goes to great lengths to match make for this couple..
Differences:
Itazura na Kiss' leading man is the typical cliche smart and handsome Jerk. He does NOT want to admit that he likes the girl, even to himself. The leading lady is adorable and sweet. She is not very talented but determined to better herself.
My Mr. Mermaid's leading man is dedicated to his sport but kind and sweet. He seems quite smitten with the leading lady, right away. The leading lady is dedicated to becoming a good reporter, but equally dedicated to being an honest upright person and good friend.
Itazura na Kiss is based on a manga and there were versions made in Taiwan, Korea, Japan, Thailand, and China... I loved them all. However, if you do not like going through all of those episodes, that make it seem like the girl is chasing a guy who is just not that into her, try Kiss Me(the Thai version) first. In that version, it is apparent, very early on that he has a soft spot for her, compared to the rest.

They have similar storylines.
Both have devoting wife. Loves their husband. Their husband meets another lady(in promise it's a rich lady).
Both couple in the drama have a young daughter. Both female lead have a another guy who likes them and wants to help them.
Both dramas that had betrayed their girlfriend have trouble relationships with the woman they chose to be with and end up running to the main female because they realise their love for them.
Both seek revenge
I watched both but fell in love with 'The promise' Because it's detailed.
The promise is a daily drama that consist of 102 episodes whereas the other one has less episodes and isn't a daily drama.

-girl must survive her life in the palace
-receives the King's interest/love
-has love for another

Both are long family dramas. Person Who Gives Happiness is much more makjang. The actress who plays the female lead is the same in both dramas. The plot and the feel of both dramas is very different but the female lead ends up with a very sweet and supportive husband in both.
Both are 100+ episode revenge dramas. Plots are similar: death of a child, crazy boyfriend stealing second female lead, etc.
Boh 100+ episode revege dramas with Very similar plots. Female lead goes to prison for a muder she did not commit. The revenge in YB is better IMO. The lead in SE is too nice and too naive.
"Tomorrow..." is more of romantic/fantasy drama than real life story like "1 litre.." but somehow I found them very simmilar..
They both makes you rethink your actions and priorites in life.
Life that can be very short, fragile and unjustice.

Yeo Jin Goo plays the main male lead in both.
Both have a mystery and supernatural elements.
Similiar in a sense that both drama's have two parts in them.
Circle has part 1 Beta Project set in 2017 and part 2 Grand New World set in 2037.
Reunited Words has parts in the past in 2005 and parts in 2017, however not in a set sequence like Circle.

Both dramas involve a person "traveling through time" in a way.
I'm not sure if Reunited Worlds has anything to do with time-traveling yet but it could.

In Hit the Top the male lead travels from the past into the future and doesn't know why. He doesn't realize he's in 2017 at first but he does after a while.
In Reunited Worlds the male lead wakes up in 2017 thinking he's still in 2005 where he was still a high school student. He doesn't realize this at first.
Hit the Top is different since it's a time traveling drama.
Reunited Worlds seems more supernatural.

It's the original Korean version of the show.
Both female actresses have to play the roles of two different people since she is playing twins.

If you like wonderful mystery dramas, you will like it.
Both are surprising japanese TV dramas with great plot twist in the end.
