Cold Face General in Intensive Romance
I love this series! This is a warm, easy to watch and adorable drama with funny scenes of an unpretentious female lead who is direct and sincere. There are intensive romance, mysteries and deep plot with supervillain. The female lead is forthright and that has resolved or prevented a lot of misunderstandings. Also, kissing and wedding are right at the beginning, so there's no long waiting for romance to happen and blossom, like in other dramas, usually at the end.The Story
To rein in the power of General Chu Xiuming (Wu Xize) who is guarding the warring border up north, the ministers press the Emperor to decree a marriage of the second daughter of Rui Wang (Prince Rui) to the General. The bad name of the General - ugly, fearsome, and having killed 2 previous wives - scares the appointed daughter, and she wriggles out and passes the marriage over to her younger half-sister, Shen Jin (Tang Min), whose mother has lost favor from her father. Shen Jin accepts the marriage because she just wants to get away from the household which she abhors. At the General’s manor, she helps fend off intruders and receives admiration from the General’s subordinates. Very soon, she realizes the general is not what she has imagined and she falls head over heels in love with him, and he her. Together, they uncover the greatest conspiracy and put the perpetrators away.
There's always a mystery - who was the mastermind behind the death of the 8th prince the crown prince and his entire family 16 years ago? All indicators point towards the Emperor and Chu Xiuming is determined to find out to bring justice for his uncle, the crown prince. The conspiracy unravels in the last 2 episodes and the show becomes nail-bitingly intense. The ending is heart-warming and satisfying; there’s no random killing off of the characters.
The Characters and The Acting
I love the Shen Jin character. How she has grown up fighting for territories in her childhood has made her courageous and proactive. She knows she has to fight for what belongs to her and what she wants so that she would not be taken advantage of. She is sensitive and not naïve, and she doesn’t sit around waiting for things to happen. Whenever she feels an imminent threat, she would jump into preventive action to protect herself and those around her. After marrying Chu Xiuming, her greatest fear is losing him to another woman as how her mother loses her father; she vows she would not take her mother's footsteps. But her schemes are mostly naïve, brainless and hilarious, causing headaches for her husband who forgives her again and again. It’s nice to see this couple resolve their misunderstandings very quickly, and both are quick to apologize to each other. She eventually grows to trust him and not jealous over any women that he may come in contact with. Tang Min’s portrayal of Shen Jin is marvelous.
General Chu Xiuming is a cold face general who becomes a romance buff after marrying Shen Jin; he sticks around her, lovingly and protectively. He is handsome, wealthy and powerful. When they are recalled and return to the capital, numerous eligible women, including Shen Jin’s own sisters, come forward offering themselves to the General, but he rejects them all; his eyes are only on Shen Jin. Tall and handsome, Wu Xize’s portrayal is believable and his action scenes are pretty good.
There’re two great second couples, one loyal to Shen Jin and the other to Chu Xiuming. They act as conduits between the General and his wife, helping them resolve any misunderstandings there may be. And I love their ingenious makeshift wedding ceremony for one of the couples - simple, warm and beautiful.
The OST
This fluffy drama gives us a few amazingly beautiful official sound tracks, in particular the OST Only For You, conjuring images of the loving General and his wife.
My Verdict
I have really enjoyed watching the two love birds telling each other their love and admiration for each other constantly. Every day, every moment when they're together, the General recites love verses to his wife, confirming his love for her. His words are sweet and his love verses are romantic. They're like glue, sticking at each other’s side all the time. There are many kissing scenes. This is an ideal husband/wife relationship - loving, understanding and forgiving, which also plays an important part in the plot when the story unravels. There're no hidden emotions nor hidden feelings. She always tells her husband exactly what she wants. I love that because men are usually slow to catch hints. Her forthrightness is inspiring.
The drama is cut in an interesting way: at the end of each episode, the cut scene is played, giving additional information to the viewers without affecting the flow of the story. These cut scenes are enlightening and can make the story clearer.
Admittedly there is a lot of flaws and holes, inconsistencies and lack of details in this drama. For example, some scenes are jumped and characters are switched without warning, the couple wear shoes on their wedding bed, the abrupt change of character for the evil sisters, etc. Nonetheless, these haven’t reduced my enjoyment.
If you love supervillain, evil sisters, some palace politics, a protective powerful general with an easily jealous wife, you may like this fluffy drama like I did. Don’t miss it. And don't miss the epilogue.

If you did not watch The Heart Killers, then you don't have the right to breathe
The Heart Killers is not gruesome as some may expected. If you are not watching The Heart Killers while it was ongoing, then what are you doing in your life? Just kidding. To be honest, I am glad that I watched this series' episodes come-out one by one, because the pressure the time each episode comes-out and the need to trend it was different. The recognition and reward of seeing one of your favorite Boys Love series is an overwhelming feeling to yourself.Story - 9/10
I gave the story a 9/10, because it was great, but definitely have some improvements to be made of just for it to become perfect.
The Heart Killers' plot revolves around a thief (Kant) being tasked by a police captain (Christ) to sneak or investigate on a notorious hitmen brothers (Bison and Fadel). When Kant saw one of the hitmen brothers, Bison, he knew that person is a one night stand he cannot forget. So, what he did was flirt Bison. But he was stopped by Bison's scary older brother, Fadel. Fadel is the older brother of Bison and they own a burger shop.
Bison told Kant that Fadel has a closed heart, meaning that he do not and cannot trust anybody that easily. So, in order to fix that problem and continue spying on the hitmen brothers, Kant asked help from his best friend, Style. Style is a mechanic in their family business' car shop, hence fixing cars are his main job. At first, Style did not agree, but when Kant said that he will exchange his car for his help to flirt Style, he agreed immediately.
Style and Fadel met unexpectedly already, because of a car accident. Fadel's precious car was hit by Style. Since he is a mechanic he offered free service to Fadel and said that he'll fix his car. Fast forward, when Style knew that Fadel was the person that Kant wants him to flirt, he tried all ways in order to be near Fadel, with the help also of Bison giving Fadel's diary to Style.
Basically, the story revolves around Kant being tasked by the police to investigate and find evidence about a hitmen brothers, with added romance since Kant and Bison had feelings for each other, and Style pursuing Fadel to have a mutual feelings also with each other.
Acting/Cast - 10/10
You know, the precious gem of a story is really the actors and the characters that they are portraying. Even if the story and script was great, if the acting and chemistry of the characters suck, the series will be a total hit and miss.
Kant (First Kanaphan) - What would you do in exchange of freedom? Are you willing to sacrifice your love's freedom in exchange of your own? His character is really a chef's kiss main character because of how the occurrence of events happened because of his actions and decisions.
Bison (Khaotung Thanawat) - Wow, just wow! Khaotung is really a good actor, I think anyone can agree with me. Bison is such a menace and a crazy character. The way he decided what to do when he knew that Kant is spying on them, investigate them. The actions he made when he knew he was being used by his lover, I FUCKING LOVE IT. This is another time that a character and an actor really got into me, in a way that I love it so much.
KantBison (FirstKhaotung) - The chemistry is really good. Watching them in this series really satisfies me, because I saw their other series and the way they acted on those. Those NC scenes, really mesmerizing and admiring to watch. I did not even skip a single second on their NC scenes because of how natural they acted on those. It feels like they are not acting, rather just enjoying the moment they are doing those scenes.
Fadel (Joong Archen) - It is my first time seeing Joong acting and to be honest, he shocked me. His character is someone who cannot trust that easily because of valid reasons and as a person who is like that also, he got me. Fadel's acting is so good that he really felt like he is embodying the role given to him. Also, he is really hot as a person hehe
Style (Dunk Natachai) - Also my first time seeing Dunk's acting and I love it! Style's mannerisms are really good. His iconic lines such as "Good Morning Kub" is really what the viewers love about him. Another, I want to applaud the stylist because of how good his outfits are. An example is the iconic crop tops he wore during the series, it was really good. Dunk is really great on portraying this not so serious but series role he got.
FadelStyle (JoongDunk) - Many viewers really love their enemy to lovers? trope that their plot has. From Fadel being cold to Style at first to the efforts that Style took in order to become near Fadel. The efforts both their characters did in order for them to become lovers. The sacrifices and moments that broke them and the viewers are really good. No one can portray Fadel and Style better than Joong and Dunk, I must say.
In totality, I gave The Heart Killers a 9.5/10 because in my own opinion, it was really good, but close only to perfection. If the casts was not great, the plot and script will not be well executed and the viewers will not love it. A must recommended series to watch, because you will not only fall in love with the plot and the characters, but also to the actors as well. If you are not watching or you did not watch it yet, you do not have the right to breathe, just kidding. Go watch it!
EDIT: I just finished watching the last episode and to tell you guys, it was truly worth it watching this series. Just a caution for the last episode because if the first episodes' NC scenes are hot, then the last episode was blazing in purgatory as it was that hot! WATCH IT ALREADY!!!

Keeps you guessing...forever
This is an ensemble drama that had to balance so many pieces of a puzzle and characters to make a complete piece. The cinematography is gorgeous and the costume and sets are beautiful as well. This director really knows how to shoot actors, the lighting in the dark Gong residences was excellent. Instead of looking dull the actors looked ethereal and darkly beautiful. Gong Shangjue is often shot like a viper who sits in the dark on first watch, but on a second watch he looks like a lonely man who holds a lot of pain and responsibility. Ryan Cheng was a stand out for me in this show. He had to bear two weeks plus of everyone hating his character, poor him. I never doubted that he was always rooting for his gallivanting brother to get responsible and protect their family.Esther Yu especially impressed me in this show, in LBFAD I liked her character towards the end but in this one she handles a meatier role in stride. Her crying scenes are actually heartbreaking and not grating, you get the sense that she put a little of herself in order to bring out the grief, not the persona she wears for the character. I'll definitely follow her projects after this. I must commend Lu Yu Xiao as well, in another drama she appeared in this year I found her annoying but in this one she is electric. You never really know what she wants even in the end. She kept the audience guessing, if c dramas were not so reliant on flashbacks I would have never known what she really desired or cared about. An excellent spy in that sense.
Now, the writing in this show was a little wanting. I liked that all the characters were taken care of, instead of using the supporting characters as tools to prop the male lead, each of them holds weight that creates an emotional heart of the story. This always gets a plus from me, no matter how messy the main plot is. The writer/director was able to make us care about the supporting characters so that a big loss is felt if we lose any of them, even the ones we hated. The humor was not my style at all and I skipped many Gong Zishang's scenes. Sorry but she was overdoing it. The main problem I had is that not enough time is given to the part of the plot that moves the gears forward. Ziyu's actions move the plot forward, the three trials he must take are how we get to the next bit of the story, yet this part was the slowest moving part of the plot. This is why I found the third trial and Master Hua's arc wanting. Often important developments were paused after making the audience think there should have been an immediate consequence. As much as I hate to admit it, Yun Weishan was often conveniently covered by plot armour. In C drama writer fashion, the villain is revealed in a cartoon like fashion who describes their plan and declares "if it wasn't for you meddling kids!" And so much exposition. But I hardly think c drama writers will ever change this style of writing. The final act needed either tighter writing or the drama should have done the full 40 episodes. It is as if the writer was rushing to solve the mystery by writing twists in for convenience (some of which were predicted by the audience, but still). However, probably this could be justified if that ending means there is going to be a season 2. How that will work in the C-ent industry would be nothing short of a miracle. Unless all the actors signed up knowing it might end this way. If there is no season 2 then I'm afraid that ending was clumsily done.
It is absolutely worth watching even twice, the first to work out what is going on in the plot because the drama was good at leaving clues for the audience to figure out, the second time to decipher the truth from the lies. The ending will not be satisfying for all, but I thought there were great enough elements in this to deserve a 9. This is one of the high quality outputs from c drama in 2023.

A show about a teen girl who constantly makes bad decisions against her own judgement
It was interesting in the beginning, but it took a downward turn for the worst and the story was being rushed. There were plot twists, but not real character development or lessons to be learned.They could've made a great ending, but they left it open for possibly another season. I believe the writers got lazy when it came to arguments and bringing the story to a close. No hate towards the cast, they seem like they could've played out a better written plot and script.
The music was weird, like some songs seemed random for the outro or off theme for the show. I was honestly trying to get to the next episode to finish off this Kdrama.
If you watch this, think of it as something to watch while you wait for other anticipated Dramas.

Entertaining and big on laughs but ultimately falls short of emotional payoff and feels shallow!
The series had me on quite the rollercoaster. It started off feeling a bit cringey with its over-the-top comedy, but as it went on I started to appreciate the depth it brought to its characters. The middle episodes really stood out for me with some strong emotional moments and character development especially Heng's. I could see the growth in the characters overall and their struggles, which made me invested in their journeys.But honestly, the last two episodes completely threw me off. Instead of wrapping things up with the deep, meaningful conversations the drama had been building towards, it just fell into all these tired, unnecessary tropes. The characters barely talked things out or solved their issues in any satisfying way. It just felt like the show took a huge step backwards, totally undoing all the emotional depth and character development it had built up before. It was like they just threw everything out the window for the shallow plot twists which was really disappointing after all the character growth we had witnessed.
Characters :
Heng : Heng started off as immature, impulsive, and just living his best “I’m clueless and don’t care” life. But as the series progressed, he actually began to show some heart. He started to open up, deal with his emotions, and work on his issues. From being completely oblivious to actually getting his act together, Heng went through some solid character development. However, after all that, the drama essentially hit the reset button on his progress, which was incredibly frustrating for me. I was left wondering if any of his growth had even mattered.
Mo : Honestly, Mo could have been so much more. He was that guy who was all about the feelings but never said anything at the right time. He had so much going on, so many layers as a character, but when it came to Heng, he just shut down. He could talk to everyone else about his problems, but with Heng? No. It was frustrating because I knew he cared, but he just wouldn’t open up. Instead of dealing with things, he stayed stuck in this awkward back-and-forth of distancing himself without properly explaining, followed by a sudden epiphany where he would just say sorry and everything would be forgotten. It held him back from actually growing in their relationship or fixing anything. For me, he was all about missed chances and staying quiet when it counted.
Boss : He plays an important role in the love triangle that complicates Heng and Mo’s relationship. At times, he adds humor to the story and his support for Heng though sometimes misplaced brings a sense of warmth. It’s clear that the boss genuinely cares for Heng and his courage in standing up for Heng when needed makes him likable, though it's evident that his relationship with Heng isn't meant to be the final outcome.
Acting & Chemistry:
The chemistry between Mo and Heng was so obvious, but it honestly felt like we should have gotten more of them as a couple. Instead of diving deeper into their dynamic, the story introduced new arcs and characters that distracted from their relationship. They definitely had a connection, but it was kind of on and off, there one moment, gone the next. It felt like there was so much more potential to explore and it would have been nice to see their relationship get more attention.
I always thought it was Heng who took the extra step, gave the benefit of the doubt, and actually did the "talking," while Mo never did. Throughout the series, Heng was labeled as someone oblivious to others' feelings, but I found him to be surprisingly considerate when it really mattered.
I will not lie , at one point I was hoping Boss and Heng should have been the end game considering how much effort he put for Heng and how communicative Boss was throughout in comparison to Mo.
In my opinion, Earth and Mix did a pretty solid job and their acting (almost) single-handedly saved the show from sinking due to some very questionable writing. Earth has great comedic timing and made the most of what he was given. The supporting cast did well too, though there were moments that felt a little too extra for my liking. There were also some unexpected cameos that genuinely caught me by surprise.
Don't get me wrong, I did enjoy the series overall. It was lighthearted and entertaining, providing plenty of funny moments. However, there was nothing to really hit home about. It lacked a deeper emotional impact or lasting significance.
I would recommend it if you are earth and mix's fan or want to watch something light in between of heavy watches.

Stupendously well done in an unimaginable scale
This drama has high production value as expected but it is stupendously well done in an unimaginable scale, it is able to outperform any drama or movie released this year in such a mind blowing way. The structure of the plot is so deeply implemented with a large amount of pressure points, details on Latin America drug trade is very precise and every character is intertwined perfectly. The suspense is limitless when it puts you into the view of the main lead, making it a nerve wrecking narco ride. It works like a double extended cut movie that is cinema worthy, especially in the final action scenes it is absolutely superb. At the very edge of humanity, deep rooted evilness tearing down every human being with money as the root of sufferings, and this drama is totally prepared for an earth-shattering drug war in this barely survivable world.Esta resenha foi útil para você?
2Loved the introduction but lost interest halfway through
I had so much fun at first with the series but I unfortunately lost interest halfway through it. I feel there are a lot to love in the series regarding the webtoon vibe with the over-the-top fight scenes, the banger OST, the exciting colorful production and the likeable gallery of characters.Unfortunately, I found the story quite lacking. I found the overall narrative arc for the characters very expected with little to no surprises. The morale felt very one note with some redundant aspect inherent to the genre. Don't get me wrong, I found quite touching some of the storylines relating to the Study Group members but it is a shame it was often in spite of the main character Yun Ga Min. The latest was so much less interesting than all his companions that it was a bit of a shame.
This central role was played by Hwang Min Hyun, whom I feel has improved since his performance in Alchemy of Souls. He felt less bland but still it seemed a bit like a miscast for the part. He felt (like most of the Study Group members) too old to play a young high school student. This was a source of concern but not really that problematic in the grand scheme of all. However, what is an issue is that even if I fully recognize his acting has more range than what I have seen in the past, it was still a bit too robotic to my taste. Fortunately, I must say that I was much more convinced by the acting of the other cast members who appeared all throughout the series.
The production was very good. You need for sure total suspension of disbelief. It is part of the genre as it is an adaptation of a webtoon which does not aim to reach realism or very profound social criticism but rather to provide some exciting fighting scenes, hyping the hero and his friend with a lot of slow motion sequences. The OST was really nice : a lot of good raps, with an energizing opening song that I liked a lot.
I would recommend this to people that are looking for an action / shonen-like story within high school background. If you enjoyed series as The Uncanny Counter, I feel this could be a good series to test out. I had some real good laugh at first and I enjoyed some storylines. I just felt the hero arc was too predictable and remained relatively one-note which reduced my interest in the series as the story progressed.

Did i read the same manga that the screenwriter ??
First i'm totally aware what "adapted a writed material" means ! Chnage need to make for the viewers to clearly watch what was written beforehandSo here my title and question : Did the screenwriter had read the same manga as me ? Because except their job, the place and theirs names so many change had make that the story doesn't even respect the essence of the manga
Surely the manga wasn't full of angst and more a slowburning love story but here to create something they think was more attractable for the audience they add dramas : exes, stupids break up, intrusive coworker
At some point they make the exploit to bring down one of the main character to the point he had less screentime and interesing story than the created side character !!!
Because let me be clear here : Sakae ex lover doesn't appear in the manga, not even sure he was mentioned ! Same with Soga ex wife she is only mentioned to explain why Soga is low self-esteem (because she want kid and Soga is sterile)
I really don't understand how you read a manga with likeable character and you make the exploit to write a serie where none of them is likeable anymore ?
I understand the need to adapt sometimes the serie is even better that the book (Not me for example) but sadly not here

An eSports story yet sweet and not boring to watch
I can't patiently wait for another episode because this drama is so addicting. It's not boring at all. The plot is based on eSports, but behind it all lay a team with amazing teammates. Not only the romance between the main leads, but I'm in on the friendship, comedy and gaming.I love the chemistry between the main leads both on the drama and behind the scenes. The acting is flawless, ChengXiao improved a lot. This drama is really full of visuals.
CHARACTERS:
The female lead is competitive, she has good gaming skills, not too optimistic and is supportive towards her enemies. She likes to give advice to her enemies when they're down or anyone else who also got the same problem as her. Overall the fl have good characteristics.
The male lead is quiet, but he's the leader of the team and would always have their backs. He secretly took care of his teammates problem. He got very good gaming skills, unbeatable. He has a soft spot for the fl whenever a problem occur to her. He's straightforward and I like him for this.
Lastly, the support roles, such as ZGDX members, God Ming, their manager, fl's best friend and bf all really made this drama very sweet not only in between the main leads but also in friendship. There is a spark of comedy in each episode.

The kissing scene here is almost perfect( hahaha just my point of view at least no cut...sss?✌?).
I loved their costumes even the music itself. Moreover, I loved all the casts from Dugu, to the prince, and more.
I don't want season 2 of this drama because this drama has already given its perfect ending.
I'll give 10/10 for the director and to all the crew.
And for you all( future viewers) please do spare some time in watching this drama. I really can guarantee you all that this drama is worth watching for.???

Brilliant!
Plot line is 10 out 10 and not just for a BL drama. This is a great drama that has a romance sub-plot and the romance is a BL. The story is interesting, well written and keeps you on your toes. And the romance is developed seamlessly and incorporated well into the story without it being the main focus. Max and Tul have an amazing on screen chemistry as always and this time around they really get to show us their great acting skills as well.I mean, I like this so much I created an account just to write my very fist review on here for this drama - because it so good and so worth the effort.
Honestly for anyone who likes murder/mysteries - this is fantastic. I don't really and still loved it! If you have an issue with character death and generally this type of visual in a TV setting, then I would not recommend as we have a lot of violence in the main plot line.

Usually I have no problem if there are some unhealthy aspects in the relationship of the main couple, but when all the relationships in a show are toxic at various levels (or at least questionable), I might be disappointed.
THE GOOD
Realistic and flawed characters. And oh boi they were flawed. My blood boiled more than once while watching. It did make the story more probable in my eyes though. The bad characters were truly villainous. If you need to find a nice example of a psychopath, you can find it here.
True diversity in female characters. It was not just a bunch of fangirls running around after hot guys, they all had their own personalities and motivations. The chemistry, as I already said, was amazing, but not only between the couples, but also the group of friends - it had such a realistic feel to it. What's worth mentioning: development of some minor characters and how their behavior was turned into these small plot twists.
THE BAD
What was Bright's character? I'm sorry, but damn I hated him badly. The age difference in looks between him and Farm freaked me out so bad so many times. It didn't feel like a dude using an innocent guy, but rather playing around with a child. And while I appreciate where it led Farm's character (that was extremely realistic), I hate how it was not really addressed as something bad by anyone.
THE QUESTIONABLE
As I said, having some questionable things going on with the main couple I can deal with, quite realistic. There is a whole different story when there is literally not even one normal, healthy relationship in the drama. When the most typical and not-problematic one is a student going after his professor... I'd say you have overused the dramatic plotlines to get your viewers interested.
Overall, I did enjoy it, binge watched it in two days. The additional commentary from the subber did make the viewing experience better tho :)

This drama definitely had potential. The actors were quite good, the plotline grabbed my attention, it had a solid beginning... WHAT WENT WRONG?
Story: Generally, it was opposite of what most dramas are like. Most dramas have a pretty slow beginning, and the episodes build up exponentially to a grand finale, with twists and sub-plots in between. This drama had a good, fast-paced beginning, which then FLATLINED before spiking an ultimate climax in the last two episodes.
Episodes 1-3: The first few episodes were interesting enough to hook me in. There was a good mix of action, romance, and comedy. However, there was little to no creation of the main plot, which I could have overlooked, had it not been for the next dozen or so episodes.
Episodes 4-18: The writers/producers filled up the gas tank but forgot how to start the car. Honestly, I was on episode 16 or so when I looked back and asked myself what the heck I had been watching for the last dozen episodes. It was like I figured out something, but then had to watch the next 5 episodes as every single other character had their own "Eureka!". Not only did the plot deviate quite a bit from the main storyline (which was very repetitive/draggy), the sub-plots also did little to help push the actual story forward (scenes of Seo Won's parents etc.).
Episodes 19-20: AND... we finally see some action happening over here. The revenge that the "bad" people had planned for 18 episodes is finally executed. What the drama lacked for 16 excruciatingly long episodes is all cramped together into these last two episodes, which were full of action, drama and the true bond of friendship/love. I was so satisfied with the ending, that my initial review of 4.5 went up to a 7. It's one of the endings I've longed to see in all my favourite dramas (usually resulting in my disappointment), where most, if not all, the loose ends/sub-plots are tied up and concluded, and there is solid proof of a happy ending.
*Note: The different names of both lead characters was also quite confusing at first.
Acting/Cast: Ok, I have to admit the cast was pretty good... it's just the characters that frustrate me. First off, there was little to no loyalty between the characters! There was just one betrayal after another, which frustrates me to no end! The only characters which stayed by each other's side throughout the entire drama were the "bad guys". By the end of the drama, I found myself rooting for their side because they were always there for each other, protecting each other, TRUSTING each other, something which the good characters completely lacked. There was barely a bond between families... the two main characters were always fighting with their parents and vice versa, while the two "bad guys" spent the entire drama attempting to get revenge for their families. I'm sorry. How can I sympathize with the good characters if you completely mask their good qualities with numerous, huge flaws (which, by the way, the characters never managed to fix).
Music: It was actually really good. I loved the music in this drama, and am currently searching for all the OST's and adding them to my playlist. There was really nice, soothing, romantic music to go with the romantic scenes (which were not as romantic as one might think). It's almost like the music was there to lure you into a false sense of romanticism to mask the fact that there was barely any chemistry between the characters.
Rewatch value: Ah... let's not get me started on this one. I'm 99% sure I won't be rewatching this anytime soon. (Ok, MAYBE I'll rewatch some of Joo Won's adorable goofy moments~).
Overall: A perfectly healthy drama went into cardiac arrest, died on the operating table, then miraculously came back to life in the morgue. It was decent. Not my first choice when recommending a drama to somebody, but if you're dead bored and have absolutely no dramas to watch, and are a fan of Joo Won or one of the other actors, then go ahead and give it a shot. But... before that, drop me a message and I might be able to recommend some other better ones for you :) Last but not least, I think this drama would have done much better had it split off into 2 completely separate dramas: an action drama with a spy/revenge storyline, and a romantic drama where the two leads have to overcome troubles with their to-be in-laws. The writers tried to group the two together and it didn't work out very well. If you're looking for the former, you're definitely in the wrong place. If you're looking for the latter, you're probably in the right one.
P.S. Just one last small note: my two favourite episodes were episode 6 and 19 if memory serves me right ^^

My Therapist Says I’m Not Allowed to Talk About the Gold Anymore
Let me start with a confession: I went into Remnants of Gold expecting a stylish sand-and-swords romp. What I got was a three-day existential crisis, a sudden urge to distrust all dunes, and a profound fear of loose change.Director Xu Bing doesn’t just adapt Gu Long—he dissects him. The 300,000 taels of gold aren’t treasure; they’re a Rorschach test. Everyone who chases them doesn’t go mad—they go true. And that’s the horror. The desert isn’t a setting; it’s a character, and it hates you personally. The cinematography is so achingly beautiful that you’ll forget people are screaming until you realize you’re the one screaming.
The Serious Part (because I have to):
This is a Wuxia drama about the death of idealism. Pu Ying (Yin Fang) is the law’s last gasp, and watching him wrestle with duty while the sand eats his morals is like watching a candle burn in a hurricane—heroic, futile, and hypnotic. Xin Zhilei’s Zhang Luyao is a revelation: a vengeance engine wrapped in poison-proof skin, yet somehow more fragile than glass. She doesn’t want the gold; she wants the lie that gold represents. Chen Kun’s Yu Hou is the political animal we all fear becoming—calculating, charismatic, and utterly hollow. And Vengo Gao’s Ban Zha? The chaotic neutral trickster who made me laugh, cry, and question if freedom is just another cage.
The Funny Part (because I’ll cry otherwise):
· The gold has a higher body count than the plague. At this point, I’d trust a timeshare salesman more than a treasure map.
· Ban Zha walks into every scene like he’s at a desert rave, and I respect that energy.
· If I had a coin for every time someone whispered “the gold” with dramatic gravitas, I’d have 300,000 taels and promptly lose my mind.
The Thought-Provoking Part (because I can’t stop):
Is the gold a metaphor for ambition? Greed? Hope? Or is it just a MacGuffin that exposes how we’re all willing to become ghosts for something that doesn’t exist? The show asks: What do you chase when you know the chase will destroy you? And then it gives no answers—just more sand, more masks, and more broken oaths. The finale doesn’t resolve; it echoes. I sat through the credits in silence, feeling like I’d just watched a funeral for every character I loved, including the parts of myself that believed in happy endings.
Final Verdict:
It’s a masterpiece. It’s also emotional vandalism. I’d rewatch it endlessly—not because I enjoy the pain, but because each viewing reveals a new lie, a new truth, or a new shadow on the dune. Bring water, bring patience, and bring a therapist. You’ll need all three.
10/10. Would lose my sanity again. Next time, I’m chasing the gold with Ban Zha. At least he’ll make me laugh before we both die.
