I wasn't expecting to end up crying. I swear that NetJJ insist on serving us angst. It was a bittersweet episode, worth the watch.

I'm really loving these two as a couple and I don't even mean a romantic couple I mean a pair of partners. Although I'm sad that he's not being completely honest with her. I'm super intrigued to find out why, and not jump to judge conclusions. Nevertheless I am super entertained, and definitely want more.

Holy they’re both so observant of each other. Dudu knew she was going out and He Yan knew that Dudu was behind her even though he tried to hide. The tension between her and Dudu at the pavilion was so obvious. I’m a full believer in Dudu and He Yan but I gotta say, that scene with Chu Zhao playing the flute for He Yan to get back in rhythm was pretty sweet. He Yan hiding behind Dudu the entire time while he was fighting with the Sun family was so funny. She was being so goofy.

Aw, the disappointment on He Yan’s face when she wasn’t selected to join the battalion. All her work prob felt like it was for nothing. There must be a reason though. She even broke his guzheng when she was drunk but he didn’t really say anything. That was his prized possession and he didn’t even get mad. He even told her there’s no need to kneel. He Yan also hugging his waist😭😭. I think the fact that Dudu knows she’s a woman but she doesn’t know that he knows is even funnier. AHHH. He saved her head from hitting the floor by grabbing the back of her neck. Slowburn who? Dudu was completely taken away by He Yan wearing female hanfu.

When they were folding lanterns together and their hands touched, it was actually Xiao Jue who pulled away first even though he’s the general.😭😭 The lantern scene was super deep for me, they shared silent hurt and silent struggles while isolated. These two are more connected than they both think. Dudu’s eyes too, they’re piercing with that smirk. One of the things that I like the most about Dudu is that he never underestimates He Yan and lets her prove herself because he knows she can.

Xiao Jue being exposed that he was the other person who bet on He Yan to win. That scene was so funny when she found all the bread. The way that Xiao Jue found out she was a woman was so funny, he could feel it on his back. I also love the discipline that Xiao Jue has for his army. “One can die in battle, but never due to friendly fire.” He has a warm heart, it’s just stuck under a cold face. Especially for He Yan.

Xiao Jue and He Yan’s fighting scenes are always so fun to watch. Also, him observing her working hard, I think he secretly sees some of himself and his own drive/hardness on himself in her. The Qinglang Sword and He Yan have such a deep connection, I love the way Zhou Ye acted that part with her eyes getting watery at the meaning of that sword. Xiao Jue testing He Yan with the stone and understanding her moves so well that he knew she purposefully didn’t dodge it. Their chemistry even at the start is just amazingly well done.

I love He Yan’s character. She’s so knowledgeable and observant, proving that women can be just as good or even better than men. Although idk how the men can’t tell she’s a woman from her facial structure. I love how Xiao Jue could see the potential and experience that He Yan has and told everyone else not to underestimate her.

Cheng Lei in the armor with the blood on his face was the best visual to start off with getting introduced to his character. You can instantly tell the deep care He Yan has for the Xiao general, who mentored her and gave her the sword. It’s not just a power play for her, but for He Rufei it is. Xiao Jue gave her the last osmanthus candy in the world when he didn’t know who she was. He simply comforted her and motivated her to live even if blind. I’m noticing so much I didn’t when I first watched it. “Bitter on the outside, sweet on the inside.” Describes Xiao Jue perfectly. He also lied to her saying the moon was pretty, starting the symbol of the moon with their relationship. He Yan is so powerful, the fact she used her hearing and other senses to hold up a fight that long, unarmed is amazing.

This pilot is instantly gripping. The acting and direction is instantly fascinating. The characters are really well written with interesting dynamics. The premise alone is enough to get you hooked and this first episode delivers that premise SO WELL.The production value is really high as well with really good effects.

This ep is slightly better. I still feel the story is dragging, but I was really into the ep after the 40 first minutes. At least confusion as left me this episode and it is good to enjoy watching and understanding all. I still find this to be very easy to comprehend, I've notice plot twist fast too. The cliffhanger at the end, I was hoping it would not be this type of plot, but hey, it was still a possibility. I was wishing for this to not happen. Existed to see the next ep and the outcome

Rin is frustrating the hell outa me. She needs constant affirmation about where Taiga stands and his actions tell her quite plainly if she’d simply pay attention. He puts her feelings first and is waiting for her to make up her mind about what she wants to do. She claims to want away from her mom’s plans, but she has nothing to seriously counter them with. Even after her mini tantrum Taiga runs after her to be rejected. Her mind bubble conversation used ‘our’ in her musings when truth be told it was ‘her’ will that lacked. He can’t force someone to stay when they’re ambivalent about it and for now, he doesn’t make enough to just accommodate her on his dime. His friend is making impact with her translated menus and I wish she would get together with Rin’s senior. They seem much better suited. Taiga’s ex might be testing the waters since she knows Rin might go home. It’s ironic that Taiga was kicked to the curb by ex for not having his mind made up for future and Rin kicked him to the curb because he did. For now, she is the one too undecided and unsure of herself to handle a relationship. Her senior will be more than happy to step in, and probably will, but I don’t see it going better for them. He will at least have her Mom’s blessing and better finances, but this is again why he would be best suited for Taiga’s friend. I want Taiga’s catering job to go well but I am not convinced he should reconsider his ex. She left him for not meeting her standard and never looked back. Rin is making the same mistake. In this episode, none of the established couples seem like they should be together. I kinda want Rin to go home and get her act together because she’s not doing that in Japan.

One has to love those anthology miniseries, as they get to the good stuff quickly. Here we got a strong 2nd episode of the SurfJava temple love tour which included banter, teasing, tension, a proper climax and a smart subversion of expectations (just when you think Tum escaped with Oh's pants, he comes in with a knowing little smile). As a duo Surf and Java work here much better than in H2H - mostly, I think, because of tonal differences between the shows. Same applies to Surf, who seems much more relaxed and comfortable portraying Tum than he was with Farm. The entire "give me your pants" scene is an instant BL classic; Surf moving his hand to Java's waist sealed the deal.
