The lonely king

The third prince is moving rapidly to impress his empress. He started a rumor for 4th Prince that 2nd Prince compromised exam. 4th Prince angrily accuses him and we do not see what happens after. The Meng pendant is missing a piece that is found in tavern. It just happens to be at the site second Prince was murdered. I am not sure how Meng scholar has it but I don’t see him having the courage to kill anybody. He was most likely at the scene to buy answers and ran away from the crime.😝 Third prince is too adamant about 4th prince’s guilt rather than finding culprit. He has the emperor done in with poison and now both other brothers neatly out of the way and Meng family reinstated. He has himself and minister Meng in charge of exams working directly with our chancellor. There is no way the 4th prince has the strength or wherewithal to kill anybody, much less his brother. The emperor can’t think straight and Qin family being noisy. He dismisses them all but agrees that harsh and swift punishment must follow for murderer of second prince. He laments to consort about his title as lonely king and seeing it play out in the loss of his sons. The viper strike was well done and well placed. The chancellor has a better idea of what happened but knows things are precarious for 4th Prince and whoever helps him. The princess has nicely given the piece of jade clue so he knows it belongs to Meng pendent. Ms Meng is veering on believing fratricide, but which brother does she really think caused it? The 4th prince found himself being patron of the common scholars, both by default and principle. This will work against him for now, but hopefully become the foundation for future realm. But first, the chancellor has to clear him and it will not be easy. I rolled my eyes and was close to nauseous at third brother’s empress fantasies at the end. All of these brothers are just…..ew. The 4th brother is decent but comes off as a righteous stick in the mud. His ideals are not backed with armed strength and both are needed to rule. This is where he comes up short. He needs someone shrewd both with intellect and military strategy and this is where our chancellor fits the bill. How to establish this and disrupt the corruption and poison antidote extortion will be biggest obstacles. Ms Meng has tossed her ring in with third prince, but really had no other option. Her father’s enterprises doomed her from the start. She is the best of the Mengs with her brother gone. She will hopefully find a new course for them. She is a bit behind with intel but catching up fast. She and chancellor could have been a formidable pair. Too bad her family was always in the way.

Exceeded expectations

Absolutely LOVE this. It’s even better than the first part ie Flourished Peony. Love the humour and relationship and chemistry between the 2 leads. They are perfect for their roles. Can’t imagine anyone else being able to portray these characters so well. The acting throughout by all the all other characters is also exceptional. The plot keeps me fully engaged and I love seeing how each problem is resolved. The drama has many facets and there is not just the relationship between the main leads but their relationships with other characters and those characters relationships with others that also engage me. So much to take in and look forward to. This drama evokes emotion in many forms. It is not one dimensional, although it includes the love story between the main leads, it is way more than just that. The sets and locations enable me to fully immerse myself in this drama. I don’t feel like it’s been shot in a few static sets or locations. The art direction has already won the 30th Magnolia Award for excellence which confirms that aspect of the drama and Yang Zi was also nominated for the coveted best actress award. What can I say, this drama doesn’t disappoint and in fact has exceeded my high expectations for it. ❤️❤️❤️❤️

The making of an emperor

4th prince has made it a point to oversee the care of scholar’s body. He has resolved to get examinations reinstated. His determination is shown by kneeling until the emperor makes a decision on the matter. The second brother is not showing a kind face to this. He is at first flippant, but once seeing the emperor is considering it, his avaricious nature is showing through and third prince and Ms Meng plan to make use of it and crush him with it. The chancellor also makes use of it. By pretending to side with emperor’s callous position on 4th son, he puts it in place with nobles and common men. Does the emperor dare stand up to the nobles or the rebellion of the people? He manages to manipulate the two princes being made directors of the examinations and for him to be in charge of the scholar hall. The chancellor was intended to throttle the flow of the commoners making it more difficult for them to participate, but the chancellor had other plans. He has extended the invitation far and wide to all remote quarters that 4th prince fought for them to have the right to be recognized if qualified. This is starting a grassroots movement in favor of 4th prince rule. The empress and third prince want to counter and Ms Meng as a leader of noble family can choose to favor the noble side of the discussion. She and third prince wisely surmise that second brother will sell off questions to lazy nobles and that this will trip up the second son. They both know the chancellor was behind moving the body and getting the rebellion started. They are still deciding how to deal with him. Third prince trying to distract with the princess. He hopes to make chancellor less focused by keeping his lover close yet distant. He is hoping the yearning lover will be less prepared for confrontation in future. The bodyguard has healed and back in the game peripherally. She has gone to Princess to let her know she has healed. The sis has also been sticking her nose in and fortunately was quieted by bodyguard before they were both discovered. Like 4th prince she has good intentions, but she is loud, impulsive and shortsighted. She inadvertently causes more harm than help. I hope the writer gives her more wisdom and has her train with bodyguard rather than sticking in at wrong times. The princess is complying with noncompliance. She sees through the plan of the third prince and while appearing to follow instructions she has insured the chancellor will be even more focused on the tasks at hand. The POS Meng scholar expects to do well on the future exam. Guess he expects uncle to pay for it.😝 The lovesick puppy eyes of the third prince as admonished to not fail the empress again. She is in for the long game and has chosen the prince most attuned to her thoughts and methods of execution. She has spent lots of time forging this alliance and I wonder if she has any contingency plan if this goes sideways. Is she as smart as she thinks she is, or is she simply a bully in the right place at the right time til knocked on her arse. This remains to be seen. For now, Ms Meng is the best piece on the board for opposition. She has working knowledge of all the key players. She is always underused and underestimated. Looking forward to how she pivots the pieces to take on the chancellor.

Fan Xian killed Eighth master Dan, and was…

Fan Xian killed Eighth master Dan, and was arrested by the first division for rebelling against the order. While the Emperor seems happy that Fan Xian didn't wait at out of town location and kill him there, instead killed Master Dan infront of the Public, right outside the Gate of Investigation Office. Emperor is delighted that Fan Xian did a correct assessment of the situation, while the Eunuch seems confused as hell. Haha surprising, right after Offical took Fan Xian to dungeon, there's a lot of officers waiting for him there, seems to be Fei Jie's people, they're saying we were asked to take good care of Master Fan. The Third Division will do as Master Fei Jie has said. Finally Fan Xian smiled. I don't know what it'll turn out in future, but these officers of Third Division seems determined to protect their fellow apprentice who's under the wing of Fei Jie, when the offical refused to let them protect FX, they were so ready to throw their poisons at the First Division, but Fan Xian said politely I'll handle it, Wang Qinian tried his best not couldn't do much for FX. New Character enters the Frame, YAN RUOHAI. The director of the Fourth Division. Whose son was sent to the enemy country because of Fan Xian. His majesty's edict came and ordered to let Fan Xian go. Now it was time to take Zijing to his family, and it was so hard to tell Zijing's wife the truth, it's hard not to cry. I hope Wang Qinian won't turn into evil ahead. Fan Xian went to the Commander's residence and found that evening was hanging from a rope, they all died. While Wang Qinian was caught stealing the information and they have out an order to arrest him and dismiss his rank.
