Next generation cooking

Gaku’s dad comes to visit. He gets friends to join them for an outing. Sports friend is jealous of math friend. And Magoroku let’s both girls know he’s available.😂 I think he was partial to sports girl.😂 He tell the history of French toast which later inspires Gaku. Ranna is offered a chef position by the one who wants to buy restaurant. He is a bad penny always showing up and always with a grudge.😝 Gaku has a chat with Ranna’s mom and asks for help to encourage Ranna to not be alone. That liar who tried to trick her into contract. He had been defeated before and I think he wants to have property for a bigger project. He personally went on a bad comment wave to get Ranna’s mom cancelled. And then the louse had the temerity to act like he was helping daughter revenge mother by getting Kai fired. Omg he is such an ass. 😝 Fortunately Ranna was wise enough to take time to consider, and he was arrogant enough to let her take it—he was that sure he had the deal in the bag. Ranna’s mom may never choose to cook professionally again, but maybe now she can enjoy it on her own terms. Ranna had reason to fear committing herself publicly, but times are changing and she did not back down from the chance to lead. She is now just about ready to take her place as top sous chef. I cheered along with the guys for her. It’s been a long time coming. She is back in Kai’s kitchen where she belongs and things seem much brighter for everybody. Kai unexpectedly grabs Gaku by the collar and tells him to step it up. To not depend on the others and aim high. In the present time we see him acting like Kai. He is willing to fire the entire chef and he has not found harmony in his cooking. It is just out of reach and he is panicking. Kai isn’t around and everybody thinks Gaku has flipped and they are now on Titanic sinking fast. From what I’ve noticed about Kai while eating….i think he is losing his palette and can’t taste properly. And I think that ass with the contract knows. I believe this is why he is lighting the fire under the feet of all of them for them to step up to their top game while he can help them. I don’t think singling out Gaku was the right move, but he’s running out of time and desperate. If it’s not a health issue something has him on a tight leash for time and we will hopefully find out what it is. I hope Ranna can find a way to get Gaku on track like he did for her. In spite of peerless meaning having no one…..I want this team to figure out how to make an exception to the rule.

To be honest I lost interest around episode…

To be honest I lost interest around episode 18, but I gotta complete it if I started it, so here I am. These past few episodes were dull, didn't find anything interesting or fun. But atleast this last episode was kinda not bad (hai bu cuo). Luzhou and Xu Zhi were passionate as what Li Ke has always said since they started dating. But everyone got work, job, responsibilities, and Xu Zhi couldn't spend much time with him, Luzhou's personality as we know, he'll feel upset ofcourse. Then he went to Ruichent and even then she was so busy she couldn't go to the airport to see him off +1 level of sadness. Their fifth anniversary was already in a few days and she couldn't talk to him much. Just one day before their anniversary he called her, but she was with her friends and it's sad Luzhou went to watch the movies alone. But how would he even know that she was so busy with completing all her work early so she could go to see him personally, and his eyes says so much when he saw Xu Zhi. Have to say one thing, the ost was the most beautiful part of the whole Drama, both ost. And it was a good drama for a one time watch. I enjoyed it a lot.

Three Stars

Abandoned the series at Ep.12. Excellent production and acting is good. But requires too much from audience to suspend their belief and logic. Every plot twist feels like a contrived attempt to move the revenge story forward. Decided to drop when all of us (who watched the show together) do not feel any attachment to the character and story a quarter way into the series. Quite a disappointment for a show that arrived with great anticipation and hype.

Be a pro Gaku

This episode let the best chefs focus on a menu for a specific food critic. Their restaurant always received high praise. However, it always lacked the highest praise of critic wanting to frequent restaurant. Here Ranna shares a bit of her knowledge with Gaku. To believe in a flavor rather than analyze every individual customer. Make your dish great for customers yet to be seen. He learns she doesn’t go out to guests because prior experience soured her to their comments about women chefs. She knew her dishes would be appreciated more and evaluated higher if they thought she was male. Gaku learned only 1% of female chefs made it and pointed out she was alone in this kitchen. Circumstances had them meet in a Chinese restaurant where they tried one of the specials. They both came away with ideas. Kai gave specific chefs lead on the courses and Gaku was given appetizers. After Ranna helped him realize he needed to please more than food critic he blindly chose figs. He figured a unique way to prepare it and the critic was impressed. However, in spite of the rave review Gaku failed to have it complement the soup coarse. What was supposed to invite the diner to a grand experience was ruined by the clash of the first two coarses. After adjusting the liquid to a sauce on top, he retained all the flavors and complemented the next dish. Ranna’s lamb packed the punch she wanted and Kai talked the critic to try revised appetizer. This won them the coveted want to frequent comment. At the end of the episode Ranna drops an unexpected bomb. She told Gaku that this was her mother’s restaurant and that three years ago Kai had stolen it. Jaw dropping end of episode.🤯

Beautiful math

Kai tries to invite Gaku and the one refusing to give name on an outing. When Gaku accidentally trashes that idea Kai changes plans to have them cook a meal for acquaintances of Gaku. He doesn’t realize that it’s a school donor and his math friend from school that found him boring. She always believed that she was the one that chased him away from math. What she did do was make him reevaluate his math potential and recognize he wasn’t finding it fun any more. One of Kai’s sous chefs wants to launch her own idea for a restaurant. She created a beautiful dish combining synergies of seafood and pork. It was done so that the flavors truly complimented. Gaku loved the idea and decided he wanted to try for the meal. He was sabotaged by his sous chef who wanted to launch one of his ideas. Gaku had too much info and first dish a disaster. He quickly creates another that the sous chef ate. Whether true or not he said the food was delicious but the presentation awful. He then cuts lose with anger that a novice could create such a dish. He admitted being jealous and hoping to use his ideas. Gaku worked with him to show his friend the beauty of math via food. She found this Gaku interesting. The sous chef revealed his name as Magoroku. He told Gaku his father had yet to call him by name in the kitchen. It was always ‘hey you’. The two bond over washing dishes. He let his friend know that she had no part in his decision to run away from math. That he now loved cooking and used math to create recipes. After the dinner she was convinced and felt she had regained her lost friend. At the end of the episode the time moves forward and the chefs decide to mutiny against Gaku. He is losing it so it is not without reason. One thing that he told his friend when at their Tokyo-esque restaurant was that he felt lonely. That was unexpected this early. He is seeing in advance the cost of being peerless.

The rain scene

This was hands down the highlight of Episode 6 of The Next Prince. That rain scene hit like a punch to the gut, in the best way. Zee and NuNew brought so much depth to Khanin and Charan, it felt less like a performance and more like watching two hearts collide. Everything built up to that moment, and they delivered it flawlessly. Episode 6 is a turning point. It gives us clarity on Charan’s emotional scars and redefines Khanin’s role, not just as a prince or his student, but as a caretaker and lover. Their kiss isn't just romantic; it culminates trust and vulnerability. This is peak storytelling in terms of character depth and actor chemistry.Zee and NuNew knocked it out of the park. If this is where things shift, I’m all in.

Confrontation & Information

THIS IS THE INFO DUMP I NEEDED!!!📝Disclaimer: This is my opinion. Someone can rate this a 10 & I can view it as a 1 and vice versa. My rating shouldn't impact yours and neither does my opinion. I forgot to say this in my past reviews and I want to say it now since I am a bit harsh here. This will probably be one of my SHORTEST post yet, so let your buckles loose or whatever that phase is! (Note from me in the future: This is NOT the shortest *crying*)Here are my predictions from last episode: ~ Day & Night's Partnership with the Older Versions: We saw the beginning in this episode, so I hope for more moments. ~ Dream Knocked Out for the Entire Episode: I didn't expect they were actually going to have Pahn not do anything this episode, but they did! After the last episode being stressful for Dream, she gets to rest this episode, so yay? ~ Curse Coming for Ozone: I was wrong about this as I thought there will be a battle between Ozone & the curse like we saw with Dream & the curse, but there was only blinking lights as in the teaser. I don't think we will get this for episode 9 too. ~ Rift Between Day & Night: This one is also incorrect as the rift will begin next episode. However, they did show a snippet of it at the very end of this episode, but I didn't count it as the editing is a bit weird that I don't know if next episode will begin from there or will begin with scenes before that scene. It felt more of a teaser than an actual scene. The reason on why I say that I am not going to write much in this post is because there isn't much to say about the plot since I went crazy on my theories and predicted most of it oops! Out of everything that happened here, the introduction shocked me the most as I didn't consider that Kit used to be a doctor and I didn't expect Professor Wiwat will rushed in it to help. When I saw Kit run towards them, it made sense to me since he really cared about people and he refused to be cured of the curse if that means strangers will suffer in his place. It also made sense to me to see Wiwat backing away as he is fine with letting people suffer as long as his loved ones are safe, but that is not what he did as he went in to help. I love that moment! In addiction to that, I was shocked that Kit went to prison (it didn't last long, but still). I don't know why I didn't thought Day wouldn't call the police lol it makes sense that he did. Another surprise was that I didn't expect to be frustrated with Kit. I wanted him to be more direct and blunt with his words, but then again he haven't got much experience with people, so that makes sense. This episode feels like a tease for next episode, so I am really looking forward to the partnership between the new & old versions of Day & Night and Dream being awake.I don't have much to say about the directing or camerawork as it seems pretty usual for the show. Nothing was out of the ordinary that I remembered since the episode didn't require any hard physical action scenes besides the CPR scene (the chest compressions were funny to me as it is off, but I am not going to judge since it is not a medical show, even though two of the leads are medical students and two other characters are doctors). However, I do like the shot of Night standing in front of the hospital doors and the shots of Day & Night during their phone call with the stark lighting differences. Despite these factors being good, the screenwriting & pacing brought down the episode to me. I expected this episode to be informational, but the information we got didn't felt much. Maybe it is because I was going crazy with my theories and being very confident in them, that when it is revealed to be correct, I already stored this information away as common knowledge in my head that it didn't felt satisfying when it is proven right. I think that is more of a me problem rather than the show's problem. However, we did get some important knowledge, which I will mention more in detail later. I was pleased to hear all of that, but we got so many gaps with their information like Kit was talking about how Kit & Wiwat met in college, but didn't touch on the subject that if the Day version & the Night version meet, it will pause the curse or Wiwat saying the 2024 transfer will stop the curse, but didn't explain how to stop the curse now as it is still active. I am forgetting some examples, but there is more where they touch on a subject and don't explain all of it here. I know that Kit was supposed to be vague with his information because Day also got mad, so the writers wanted the viewers to be mad with the vagueness. However, it drives me crazy when writers tease an info dump in an episode and don't give us much. Another problem I had is the last scene. It reminds me of how episode 3 ended with a teaser-like scene rather than an actual scene. Half of that final scene got continued in episode 5 (I don't know why they did that cliffhanger-teaser scene for an episode far away, but I didn't like that artistic decision). I didn't took any points for that as I don't know if episode 9 will begin like episode 4 did with a different scene, but I did took points off for the transition to the final scene as it felt too fast.Even though Dream is in a terrible situation here with fighting for her life and all, Pahn is the luckiest one here as she didn't had to do anything besides lay there and still get that main lead paycheck lol. With 1 of our 4 main leads down, I will talk a bit more about our other 3 mains. Gun did great as Ozone as always. I really love the shakiness in his body & eyes, as he shows a bit of PTSD from being kidnapped by Kit. Pond also did great, as he was able to show anger & uncertainness as he have to work with & trust his brother's kidnapper. I hope Day & Ozone get the deserved rest (when they are alive not dead) as the kidnapping events last episode happen the same day as the "teamwork" events in this episode. As for Dew, he did amazing. I was a bit nervous for him as this episode requires a lot of emotional scenes and he tend to struggle with showing emotions early on in the show (at least, in my point of view). Thankfully, he was able to show desperation, hysteria, and despair. I absolutely love the scene with him in the hallway. Usually, the character restricts emotions, but he can't help it besides letting it all out as this is rock bottom for him. Lastly, Pod & Gandhi did good too. As mentioned before, I love the intro scene. Plus, the flashbacks were good. I am hoping to see more of them together in future episodes. The reason I say "good" instead of "great" is because the acting feels average and I am not good at rating acting skills of characters I am not used to seeing when they are tense due to stress. I didn't took off or add any points as I am not used to seeing their characters often, thus I am not used to the characters' emotions. I will probably start doing that probably in episode 10.Time for the theories! Here is the new information that we didn't knew before: ~ The curse can be transferredWoohoo! This theory was right. ~ A cursed person only needs to be present when a new life is born for the transferI didn't realize it was that simple lol I thought they had to make a sacrificial ritual every 4 years or physically kill the mother, but no they just had to stand there. This piece of information means that my 2008 shooter theory is probably wrong as I thought they have to kill people every 4 years (there were 20 total victims (last episode said there were only 2 in the news article, but episode 3 says there were 20, so I don't really know what to believe)). However, I am still holding onto that theory as I still think it is weird that a stranger was involved. My other reason for that theory still holds up as I think Day & Night met before when they were kids, which paused the curse or the curse transfers back, so the professor took it upon his hands to restart it. Though, it doesn't make fully sense because why he didn't do anything to Dream & Ozone in 2020. ~ Professor Wiwat's transfer didn't impact KitThey didn't say this directly, but I assume based on his constant moving around, his lack of experience with people, and him saying "I will never do it" probably means he still have the curse. I thought it did impact him as Day said "how are you still alive," so I assume they will introduce a new piece of info where the curse will kill the cursed person if there are no more loved ones left, but that dialogue line was a screenwriting or translation error. Since it didn't impact Kit, it means that for both members of a pair to not be affected, they need to transfer their curse to 4 people. I wonder if there can only be 1 pair per leap year and if there can be a leap day without any pairs being born. ~ Kit is the older Day & Professor Wiwat is the older NightThis explains why Kit was wary of Night and told Ozone to not say anything to Night. I thought he was autistic or read somewhere about Night's fate, but it is because he is afraid that Night will turn like Wiwat due to similarities in personality, career, and their birth time.~ Curse is only transferable during Leap DayI really wonder if we are going to time skip to the future. If so, how will they do it as so many important things are happening very quick in the present that a time skip would so abrupt? If they will do a time skip, I think it will be in the last episode when things are fully resolved. Usually, episode 12 tends to be happy for most of it (I think. I only watch rom-coms.) Also, I don't think they will do a time skip now as Night don't have 4 years as the curse is getting stronger by the second. ~ Curse can happen naturally or by transferIf Night choose the "evil" path, I don't completely blame him as the curse will still continue whether he transfers the curse or not and people will get hurt. However, if he doesn't transfer, less people will suffer. Also, at this point of misery, some people become so deep in their despair and dread where that they don't have a heart. It is understandable where Night immediately takes the chance of not having to suffer anymore in exchange for other strangers to suffer for him. This does go against the medical code, so Dream will probably object to this idea. This plot point is kind of a parallel in real life where doctors neglect their loved ones to focus on their work of saving the lives of strangers and other doctors who are only in for the benefits of the job to provide for themselves and their loved ones & neglect their patients. By the way, there is evidence of Wiwat being present for only Day's birth, but not Night. Does this mean that Night's was always meant to be cursed, but then again Wiwat said he transferred the curse to both?As for the parts of information that is left unclear or unanswered, I don't know if I miss something or they will answer later OR it is a production error and they will never get answered. Some of my theories I still hold on to even if there is a part that is wrong, but hasn't been directly disproven yet, just to make room for errors on their part. I am still confused about the security camera & the disappearing package. One thing that they brought up, but haven't explained yet is the Super Circle theory (its not a real physics theory by the way, according to my super quick Google search). What they say about an anomaly in the universe aligns with the drawings being in chaos. This goes to my theory that the curse will end in 2024 as it looks like everything is in peace. Knowing more about the start of the curse will help us know how to end it as the characters probably need to reverse whatever has caused the universe to be in chaos. Maybe they need to destroy or retrieve something for everything to be in order or in orbit (I am a bit stuck on the word "circle" lol).I really wanted them to talk about why did the curse stop when Day & Night meet. Kit & Wiwat didn't say anything about that, even though they met in college and stayed as friends for years, so maybe it didn't happen for them or they didn't thought to mention that yet. I assume the curse stopped due to the universe slightly being in order when Day & Night aligned/meet. Maybe they have to meet on Leap Day for the curse to not take affect since they met on the 27th and the curse still happen. However, that didn't stop the curse, only delay it since the curse is getting stronger as the time pass. Next time, the curse will not miss. It is only taunting them right now. I think episode 11 will be the next or last time the curse will strike. Like in my last review, I still think the professor or Kit will die OR everything the professor does will come back to bite him OR maybe everyone will be happy lol big dream. This doesn't go to any of my theories, but I wonder what is in the folder that Kit gave to Wiwat. Is it important or is it just photocopies of news articles like the ones he gave to Day?Here are my predictions for next episode: ~ 2000 Flashback: I forgot to mention this in my last review, but I am not quite over this prediction lol. If this doesn't happen next episode, I will stop expecting it. Imagine when I stop pushing for this scene and it shows up, I would be mad lol ~ Dream will not support Night: Since she is also a medical student, I think she will have a strong take on this issue between Day & Night. I think she will not support him and believes there is another way to stop the curse. Also, they have 4 years left to decide and that is a long time to find a solution. Technically, they have less than that with the curse getting stronger and all, but they can't transfer now. She might be on the fence at first since if she die, Night will be alone and she doesn't want that, but her morals might come through. ~ Night will not die: The episode 9 curse in GMMTV is a thing, but it is not as strong as the episode 11 curse. It is too early for him to die and we haven't introduced resurrection as a concept in this show. However, there will be a fight between him & Day, as shown in the teaser, but it will be stopped by themselves or someone pulling them out before it gets any further. I don't think Day will kill Night (maybe by accident, but that will not serve any plot points).Favorite Scene: First scene with Night, Wiwat, & Kit saving Dream and Day calming Ozone (loving the teamwork) & the scene of Ozone cuddling Day in his bed (so cute)I gave this episode an 8.5. I took points off due to problems with screenwriting & the style of the final scene. Majority of the points added were due to the usual good quality of the show and the acting from Dew.Lets go to episode 9!P.S. One more episode left until I am caught up! Also, after I finish watching episode 9 & before I start writing my review for that episode, I will be active in the comment tread for this show again as I will be completely caught up in terms of watching!P.S.S. I haven't seen Win (Title) in a while. Is he going to show up later or was he just a plot device to make Night & Dream be a thing? If that is the case, his character was kind of useless because if he wasn't there, everything about Night & Dream's relationship would still happen as it did, but oh well I enjoyed him.P.S.S.S. Did I say shortest? I meant longest as this is 2,969 words long! TT

The kitchen is a battlefield

Kai does not know how to understand the young man that has pages of math to explain how long it takes to wait in line. He knows that Gaku has a unique perspective in the world because of his math obsession, but this makes it difficult to be understood by people that use language to communicate.😝 Gaku is a complete mess in the kitchen and is learning by literal trial by fire how to meander through and survive. He notes that doing chores and making comfort food doesn’t earn him recognition. They all refuse to tell him their names because they don’t see him lasting there long enough. His lodging is set up at Kai’s place which introduces him to a worldliness he has never been exposed to.😂His friend from high school stands by him and even when injured she brings him food from home. This Bento box of home serves as his muse for worker’s dish. Kai originally gave him a month and then reduced it to a single week. To stay employed every employee must like his dish unanimously. He is down to the last two days and has finally figured out what to do. He raises the bar of Japanese cuisine to make it international and appealing to the chefs sitting around the table. All of them know a bit is missing for perfection from their homeland, but he makes every single one of them think of home no matter where that is. He has broken his glass ceiling of understanding and is now able to deliver unique and top quality dishes. As Kai watches his mentors dine, he is told that when you become peerless, your really are. He is reminded that it is truly lonely at the top. Young Gaku was happy to discover food through math. His love for both came out in his food. The sous chefs were determined to not give him any assists. They threw everything at him to sink or swim on his own. Not one of them thought Kai should have hired him. It was not until his Nostalgia dish that they understood the talent Kai knew from first dish. He has earned everybody’s name but one. At the end of the episode, that one is trying to get Gaku to eat and fighting with him about losing himself. They want their friend back and not this shadow perfectionist version of himself. I hope he will break through this new ceiling and find the real him soon. The story is composed of a very interesting juxtaposition of his young self and older self. By seeing the optimistic and pleasant young man, we can grit it out through this less than ideal version of himself to see what happens when he reaches the other side. This is a very interesting drama about growing pains and career ambitions and what is most important in life.
