A must watch.
Been waiting for this show since ages đđ.It was a wonderful and entertaining watch.
Would have given it 10/10, but genuinely this drama lacked on a few parts:
1) too many fillers and unnecessary scenes from start
2) ending plot could have been better
3) 2nd lead hot scenes. I know people loving such torturous scenes, but then only production and direction should be blamed. They shot and gave such scenes completely ignoring the gravity of such scenes. They themselves relied of the hotness quotient. So can't blame users, when zhuyu team themselves romantise such SA scenes.
4) Xie zheng, the great marquis of Wuan deserved better battle fight scenes. We couldn't see the true power and rawness of Xie zheng at all.
Nevertheless, it was an entertaining watch, but definitely could have been better.
I will also be angry at the leaks, show could have achieved higher numbers if not for these leaks. Iqiyi should take full responsibility of the mess they made.
Acting wise, everyone slayed and would definitely watch their upcoming shows. Wishing the whole cast all the best.

WORTH THE WATCH.
Pursuit of jade is the first chinese drama to satisfy me this much, I enjoyed every single episode, the cinematography, the scenery, the outfits, the detailing. Everything was to perfection and I loved every single detail about the show, the osts were perfect as they gave the chinese traditional music vibes. I enjoyed every single scene. The director did amazing, Zou Yue did amazing with the storyline and adaptation of the original novel, the actors acted precisely and frankly, I enjoyed the chemistry of the first couple as well as the second couple. The character development didn't disappoint either or I really thought that they would ruin a few characters. The loyalty of the ministers towards their state really moved me. No matter what, they were trying to find a right ruler to preserve their state. Wei Yan was righteous though his actions to prove that we're not. Killing is bad and no action could justify it but his side of the story was valid too, I could understand why he did do stuff he shouldn't have and grand tutor li was utterly useless. Qi Min was a pitiful character too, it's just his circumstances which lead him to be the way he was, he wasn't raised properly but his conscience did know the difference between right and wrong and his wrong can never become his right. Yu Qian Qian, a passing time traveller deserved to go back to her realm, I felt bad for her because she did nothing to have sought the cause and effects that severe but then again everyone has their own fate which they have to fulfil. Xie Zheng, Xie Jiuheng orMarquis of Wu'an, his character was truly up to the expectations, I enjoyed how Zhang Ling He protrayed his character and as for Fan Chang Yu or Wei Chang Yu, her character was written beautifully, her character development was perfect and it really shows a illiterate person has prove herself and educate herself as she embarks on her journey, Tian Xi Wei did outstanding with her performance and I look forward to more of her work. Overall, the cast was perfect, everything had been selected carefully and was persecuted with perfection. This has to be my top chinese drama. I look forward to more adaptations like these and I look forward to the future works of the director and screenwriter as well as the actors. Pursuit of Jade was truly a masterpiece đ«.Was this review helpful to you?

fun, yet somewhat confusing, show
I only say confusing in the context of there being so many names to keep straight, plus the fact that a few of them had two names. That being said, this was a fun watch. Not laugh-out-loud funny, but there were oh so many cute scenes. I enjoyed trying to figure out who the true villains were. The standout story lines were the ones involving the roommates of Room 301. Hang Geum Bo (Park Shin Hye) is a 36-year-old that goes undercover at a company, pretending to be 20. This was made more interesting by the fact that she was not a nice person. She was hard to get along with, had no filter for things she would say, and would not suffer fools gladly. Yet the four women (and the darling daughter of one of the women) eventually became fast friends and learned to lean on and protect one another. I loved the found friendship/family trope, so I was all in for this.
The only one I didn't like in this was Go Kyung Pyo (Sin Jeong U). To me, he seemed too stiff and monotone.
This is not a romance. Geum Bo and Jeong U were in a relationship years ago. Then he stabbed her in the back when they worked together. I think part of her plan was to get revenge on him. Cho Han Gyeol as Albert O was wonderful as the young man that gets a crush on her, but it doesn't go anywhere.
The ending shows her moving on to another undercover case, leaving the door open for a season 2, but I don't think it's necessary, and I would miss the rest of the cast and their interactions.

Ending feels rushed for a slow drama
Before the drama ended, I would think it was suitable for casual drama enjoyers, and the sole reason I watched this drama was because of Kang Hyewon. The way the story is executed is meh. They want to stick with a realistic ending, yet it feels a bit rushed for slow drama. The writing is kinda too fairytale for some characters and plots. Getting hooked on the first few episodes, but went downhill as it continued. Was this review helpful to you?
Cute but cliche.
So KING THE LAND was a okayish drama for me.Visually it was FANTASTIC.
THE CAST WERE AMAZING.
OSTs WERE GOOD.
Story was kind off bland. It was cliche. We already know what happens in such kind of stories.
The characters had loopholes. At times i ws getting confused. There was good chemistry but something was missing. Also, i felt it just ran fast.
Didn't feel like true love. Well, it was lovely but things just happend too fast... i wasnt that thrilled about it. And yea, some ideas in the drama were so stupid.
The trip to Thailand was unnecessary but thanks i got to watch the visuals.
The second couple were good.
The third friend's husband was pissing off.
He needed a better worst treatment.
The daughter was soo good.
The grandma was a star.
Ji hu's part was kinda sweet.
And the staff were the best.
Now the ending, it was too bland. Very very fast. I wanted it to detailed.... but they just jumped from places to places... scenes to scenes.
Eneding wasn't satisfactory though it was sweet.
Overall, it visual good. One time watch is fine.
Its a solid 7-8/10

A Weekly Obsession Fueled by Powerful Performances
Seeing these two actors reunite in a spin-off sequel to A Breeze of Love was something I never expectedâbut Iâm genuinely glad it happened. With their undeniable chemistry and striking visuals, it wouldâve been a waste not to bring them back together on screen. While the story could certainly benefit from tighter writing and more polish, itâs the actors, their natural performances and electric connection, that kept me fully invested. They bring a level of authenticity that makes every moment feel effortless and engaging.
What I particularly enjoyed is how the series builds tension over time. As someone who followed each episode weekly, I found myself constantly drawn in by the suspense and emotional pull. The narrative may not be entirely straightforward but that unpredictability adds to its charm, creating a compelling and layered storyline.
Despite some room for improvement in the direction, the show succeeds in delivering consistent thrills. Each episode ends on a note that leaves you with goosebumps, making the wait for the next installment both agonizing and exciting.
And ultimately, it all comes back to the actors. Their performances arenât just good, theyâre captivating. They embody their roles with such depth, nuance and sincerity that you canât help but be pulled into their world. Every glance, every line, every subtle emotion feels intentional and real. Magnetic chemistry. Unforgettable presence. Undeniable talents

Too long
The first few episodes were so good. The chemistry...swoon, the slow burn of them liking each other....swoon, the flirting and silliness; it was lovely. Even when they first got together, it was still nice and exciting and heartfluttering. Then people found out.
The brother over reacted, the sister overreacted. Their dads were the only normal people. And that mother....oh my god, I have never hated a character more in my life. As a mother I found her behaviour towards her daughter from the very beginning - even before she found out - absolutely abhorrent. I assume it shows the relationship in that culture as they are, but come on....the manipulation, the hitting and screaming at everyone, saying it was for her daughter but really she was a groundlessly elitist snob . I really hoped she'd fall off a cliff like a Disney villain, I haven't been so annoyed by a non violent non murderous character since Delores Umbridge in Harry Potter. And her insistance that she go back to that ridiculous ex who should have been put in jail but instead just seemed to cease to exist...absurd.
Sadly the leads' chemistry seemed to disappate after everyone found out too. The fact he hugged her like a child was consistency off putting.
On top of the vile woman was the needless involment of JunHui and GyeongSeong's father...added nothing.
The sexual harrasment at work side storyline...added nothing.
The amout of time that could have been saved by cutting down the 'walking around looking thoughful' scenes would have halved this series running time...no need...added nothing.
And the music....dear lord....anyone who has watched this show in its entirety will have heard those 3 songs more than anyone involved in the production, writng and singing of those songs. It was awful, repetitve and distracting. If I never hear a rendition of Stand by Your Man for the rest of my life, I'll be okay with that.
IMO JunHui, once they got together was a little too into her, and treated her like a delicate flower. I'm not one that is against protective men, I like that trope, but considering she was supposed to be 15 years older than him, he treated her like a child at times. And it took way too long for anyone to stand up to her bloody mother, not that it made a difference.
And how she just let him go despite an awful controlling mother and a shitty masogonist filled job was absolutely beyond me. 'I'm more mature now, I've grown up...' WHAT?!?! So act like a grown up and leave with the man you supposedly love!
I was also super confused and frustrated how she made out he was the one in the wrong for leaving. How was any of that his fault. He did everything he possibly could for her. She didn't even want to move in together, if I ever watched it again - which I really can't imagine I will - I'd watch it with an eye to see if she actually really did ever have feelings for him because her behaviour would imply she didn't. Certainly not as much as him.
And finally....how could she tell that mother of hers that none of it was her fault!!!
Jung Haein was the saving grace of this show and Junhui deserved better. She wasn't worth it.

Swoon worthy
This is one of the cutest series i have seen, i loved it so much! I watched every episode as soon as it aired and watched every episode at least 3 times in that week before the next one aired. They just got under my skin. I just rewatched the whole series agian for tis revieuw. And i will be rewatching it a lot in the future.I just loved how Hioki evolved from extremely shy, to being the bold one to ask Watarai to be his boyfriend.
I loved episode 7 with the recap of Watarai's story. And the whole drama had so much funny moments.
The visuals in this drama were stunning and the music so much fun!
All the actors did an amazing job! The dynamics and chemistry between the mains was amazing en the kiss was good.
I hope there will be a second season, i would love to see a lot more of all of them.

A lighthearted, warm and sweet drama
The overall feel is very positive. The setting is warm and natural, the acting is natural, and the characters are wonderfully designed. Especially Miles delivers a stellar performance, both in terms of acting and looks. His little expressions and subtle gestures are lively and natural and the stark contrast in his character comes across as completely seamless. Zheng He Huizi is pretty and expressive. Their chemistry is amazing! Many details of the plot are handled very realistically. The supporting cast is also great; and their acting is very natural. The plot also has some lighthearted humor. The series is both visually appealing and hilarious overall. Pacing is good. The novel is well written and most of the script has followed it which is a big plus!Final review: Engaging story, stunning visuals and great acting. The dual timeline concept successfully created and executed.

A Simple Story That Left Me Confused ?
This drama is cute and simple, but there are several reasons why I gave it this rating.Starting with the positives, I really enjoyed the male leadâs personality. Kim Seon Ho was incredibly charming and lovable. The overall atmosphere of the drama felt soft and comforting, with a good touch of comedyđ„șđ.
The kiss scenes, although few and repeated, were genuinely some of the sweetest and most heart-fluttering momentsâI couldnât help but feel my heart race while watching themđ.
However, the female leadâs character was quite frustrating. In the beginning, the first couple of episodes were enjoyable, and I liked the dynamic between the leads. But after the reveal of what happened between them, her behavior became confusing.
She chose to act as if nothing happened, even after clearly stating that they should forget everything. Throughout the drama, she kept hesitating about her feelings, which made her actions inconsistentđ„Č.
What made it more confusing was that she kissed him despite not loving him, rejected him when he confessed, and then started seeing someone else. This made her character hard to understand and, at times, irritating.
At first, it seemed like the male lead was the problem, but in reality, he genuinely loved her from the beginning. She only appeared to realize his feelings later, especially after seeing his drawings, which felt a bit late and unconvincing.
Overall, the drama has a lovely vibe and strong moments, but the female leadâs character negatively affected my experience đ€·ââïž.
I truly wanted to rate it higher, but whenever I think about these events, I canât help but feel frustrated đ.

FROM AN UNBIASED POV
ăéçă Zhu YuWhat captivated me the most about this drama has to be the screenplay and cinematography. I firmly believe that an engaging screenplay can carry a story even through slower mid-sections and here, the story itself was compelling as well. The director is absolutely talented.Aside from one scene, I was satisfied with every sequence of the drama.
I also have to credit the comedy, which consistently managed to make me laugh. The directorâs talent was evident not only in the storytelling but also in the visuals.Somehow, even already handsome and beautiful actors looked even more good looking on screen , which I didnât think was possible.
When enjoying a drama, we canât just like the leads while ignoring the supporting cast. A story only works if the entire ensemble is engaging, not just the romance. I found myself invested in the supporting characters too. Even some antagonists had arcs we could follow. There were no irritating negative characters forced into the story without purpose.
THE PARALLELS :
I appreciated how the author highlighted the parallels between the protagonist and the antagonist.Xie Zheng and Qimin share eerily similar pasts: both lost their fathers, witnessed their mothersâ ultimate sacrifices, endured childhoods marked by hardship, were rescued by women and eventually fell in love with their saviors. Their paths mirror each other closely, yet the outcomes are shaped by fate and the choices they make.
In a way, it could be said:
Donât save just any man. If youâre lucky, you get a Xie Zheng, if unlucky, a Qimin.
Or consider it another way: donât fall for your savior. Love may be returned, giving you a Changyu. If not, even your death wonât earn you a single tear.
MAJOR CHARACTERS:
ăChangyuă
was a refreshing character in the beginning. She was neither cold nor emotionally distant nor did she adopt the overly boyish aura often imposed on strong female leads.
There is a recurring tendency in storytelling to equate strength with the loss of softness, as though a woman must become hardened to be taken seriously. This feels like praising a manâs qualities under the guise of celebrating a woman.
Another aspect worth noting is her love for the male lead. Unlike many modern romances where emotional effort feels one sided, Changyuâs affection was consistently visible, expressed through her care and attentiveness, making their relationship feel mutual
ăXie Zhengă
I initially began this drama because of Zhang Linghe and his portrayal of Xie Zheng was consistently pleasing to watch. From the very beginning to the end, his character maintained a sense of steadiness and composure that made him easy to admire. He was presented as an exceptionally capable general and later an equally dependable husband, embodying an almost ideal figure.
While this made him likable, I couldnât help but feel that retaining some of his imperfections from the novel would have made him more layered and ultimately more memorable. Even so, I genuinely enjoyed his character and he was the only character consistently likable throughout.
ăQianqiană
can easily be perceived as a weak woman. However, I never saw her that way. Physical strength is not the only form of strength worth admiring, and her true resilience lay in her intellect and independence. Despite being completely alone in the world, coming from a poor background and showing strong hints of being transmigrated, she managed to survive through wit rather than force.
But she became the only major character who did not receive a happy ending in my opinion. What she valued most was her freedom. She did not hate Qimin himself, but the way he kept her captive.
While even the Princess Royal, who was raised under strict noble expectations, used to run away from home, Qianqian, who was far more free-spirited, ended up confined within the palace walls. Author was too cruel to her, denying her both a return home and a life of companionship, leaving her in a quiet and permanent isolation.
ăQimin ă
stood out as one of the most tragic and conflicted figures in the drama. While a handsome actor playing a tragic antagonist can naturally heighten audience sympathy, it was ultimately the performance itself that made him so compelling. Despite the recent trend of attractive actors portraying villains, I had rarely felt this conflicted or sympathetic toward one before.
He lived under an immense burden from a young age, with the desire for revenge constantly instilled in him by those around him. Everyoneâhis subordinates, servants, and even his nannyâeither feared him, revered him or expected something from him.
Hints from both the drama and the novel suggest a traumatic upbringing: he was used, forced into fathering a child and later discarded.
The people who raised him were loyal to the bloodline rather than to him as a person. Baoer was born without Qiminâs consent and itâs understandable that he would feel a deep sense of resentment.
The timeline makes it even more disturbing. The fire happened 17 years ago when Qimin was four, so heâs about 21 now. Since Baoer is seven, that means Qimin was only around 14 when he was drugged.
His jump into the river felt less like an accident and more like surrender. Despite knowing how to swim, he made no attempt to save himself. In that darkness, Qianqian became a rare ray of light, someone who did not immediately despise him, yet he ultimately drove that light away himself.
Qimin was undeniably a tragic figure but he also became the source of further tragedy for others. He was hateable yet deeply pitiful.
I sympathize with Qimin for his past but I also sympathize with Qianqian. I love watching a story where a man changes for a woman, rather than a woman changing a man.
That might be why I got into this ship. The author never showed that it was Qianqianâs responsibility to change a man. They were doomed from the start, a tragedy I loved watching unfold, yet never wished to end happily in this life.
The visual storytelling mirrored this dynamic beautifully: Qiminâs grey hair and black mink shawl contrasted with Qianqianâs red ribbon, making them resemble a wolf and a rabbit, evoking a clear hunter and prey dynamic.
On top of that, the actors had top-notch chemistry, which made every scene between them feel emotionally heightened
WEAK POINTS:
The last ten episodes were where the drama began to lose its grip on me. The female leadâs character seemed to lack a fully authentic development during this phase.
Sure, some of it could be blamed on limited screen time but during her growth phase, I felt oddly detached from the main couple. If that part had been given more space, Iâm not sure whether I would have felt more connected or more frustrated.
The female leadâs development began to feel unintentionally comical. It was already unrealistic to see a petite woman taking down a man of such a large build but the drama justified it by claiming she possessed unusual strength, so I accepted it as fictional exaggeration. In fact, it was satisfying to see a woman win in a fight, even if it stretched realism.
I totally feel it was wrong of them to keep main couple apart during the phase where so many changes were happening to her character. I understand that both characters were meant to be independent, the writers should have used the limited runtime more wisely. When the reunion kiss I had waited so long for failed to move me, I knew something was wrong.
Even if things got slightly better between them later. I canât exactly pinpoint what changed but I miss the vibes they had in Lian and even in the war camp.
Again, the last ten episodes felt both rushed yet dragging. The editing was choppy and some scenes ended up looking lame. I was set on giving this drama a 10/10 before these episodes.
At the end of the day, it all depends on how you view the story. At first, it felt like a full blown romcom to me. I only cared about the main leads and was wary of new characters appearing.
But when the political and war elements unfolded, I realized that in this world, few rise to power or win wars without innocent blood being spilled. Take, for instance, the scene where Xie Zheng opens the dam, flooding Baxia and killing thousands of soldiers and civilians alike.
From a political standpoint, itâs far easier to influence a young emperor and his inexperienced mother with no background than to control a bloodthirsty and unstable ruler. So I get it
Yet, if I frame it as the love story of a general and a butcher rising to power, it becomes a happy ending in the larger sense. Both in this life and in every imagined life that could follow.

Watched to one reason and one reason only
As Aghase and Youngjae ulted of course I was going to watch him being a baddie. Was it ridiculous and nonsensical? Yes
Did it start off well and intriging and then get a bit random and weird? Yes
Was there enough of the love story? No, but we got the jist.
The acting was good. I adore Lee Hyeri and Chung SuBin was great too. It was as convoluted as webtoon adaptations often are and I'm aware that ByeongJin's character was written for the show but he definitley added an albeit tenuous peril to the whole thing.
It did end quite nicely IMO and doesn't need a second series.
Would I watch it again? Maybe but only because of him, not because of the story.

An unbised POV from Kdrama fan who has never watched Chinese drama
This is the first Chinese drama that is getting better over time âš. I have never fully watched a Chinese drama before; I always dropped them halfway because the story would get boring. Right now, I am at episode 26, and it is getting really interesting đ. It is funny, the action sequences are great âïž, and the story is becoming amazing too. This drama is truly one of a kind and always keeps me intrigued about what will happen next. Usually, I only find this level of satisfaction in K dramas and their storytelling. No doubt, this is a wonderful drama, which is why it is in the spotlight.
I had read some negative comments and was hesitant to watch it, but it turned out to be perfect in every aspect. The story, the action, the romance, the second lead love story with the princess, and even the villainâs obsession with his wife all stand out. The cinematography is also a perfect example of how a drama should be made.
Previously, I tried watching some Chinese dramas but always ended up dropping them halfway, like Lookism Chinese version, The Untamed, and Fireworks of My Heart. Although many people like these dramas, they did not captivate me enough to continue.
However, Pursuit of Jade is truly different. It sparked my interest in Chinese dramas and became the first one I completed from start to finish, especially as someone who has mostly been a fan of K dramas.

Good series
Secret Lover is really sweet and the actors did very well. Honestly, the only problem I had with this series was the fact that it was a bit fast paced. 10 episodes with twenty something minutes felt like enough time for the story but the way they did it was basically pushing a bunch of stuff into the first couple of episodes. They could have spread it out more because up until episode 2 you see things that usually happened around ep 4 or 5, but maybe it was because of the fact that the show was slightly shorter than others? That is just my opinion.Regardless, Secret Lover is wonderfull and 100% something you should check out. Junxi and Tuo are just the cutest!

âWhen Tragedy and Romance Collide: Great Potential, Disappointing Executionâ
I watched The White Olive Tree with high expectations, particularly for its aesthetics and Chen Zheyuanâs excellent performance.Unfortunately, despite its visually impressive production, the story suffers from serious inconsistencies.
The drama mixes a very naive romance with an extremely heavy tragedy, without managing to balance the two. The result is a constant sense of dissonance.
Many situations lack credibility, and the accumulation of dramatic events ends up feeling artificial rather than emotional.
The handling of the protagonistâs psychological trauma is particularly disappointing: introduced in an interesting way, it is poorly developed and leads to a frustrating and incoherent conclusion.
Finally, the ending gives a sense of emotional manipulation. After investing nearly 40 episodes, the viewer receives neither true resolution nor clear meaning.
Itâs a work with great potential, but ultimately leaves a bitter aftertaste.
