Dark, Angsty, Spicy n Strangely Sweet

The story till mid Ep12 is just fantastic.
SPOILER:

The Twist is just Shocking.
When he arranged for all to see the relationship and the Backstabbing was just WOW.

There were for sure moments that i was so annoyed with the soft way of the character and this concept of not talking with each other about important stuff. I also understand that in that period of time people were different than now, more outspoken and harder characters.
But seriously overall it’s a very good drama.

The Biggest and the Only Point that i Really Really didn't like is the END.
Yes it is HE but it’s a very rushed one like sure all that happened for several years. You run, u almost destroyed me and the other was hurt as well so then in just 10m lets all be happy again.
Don't get me wrong - sure 10m be happy but we need to know more like what happened with him after the crash of funds or how he actually was looking for Fanfan.
Not just 2 sentences. This was disappointing.
Done rambling. Watch it with an open heart and mind.

A satisfying goodbye to Arthit and Daotok

Waiting for this special episode was like torture. So glad we got one after all! <3

I kind of miss Dao’s blue hair. It made him stand out, and it looked amazing on Oat. That said, I’ve seen Oat starting to rock more of a mullet-ish look lately, and it looks so cute on him, haha.

That aside, Ngern is such a good actor. His performance stood out to me in this special episode. Arthit genuinely looks so in love. Whenever Dao’s safety is at stake, you can feel the desperation, panic, and fear in his voice, but you can also see it in his eyes and facial expressions. He conveys those emotions incredibly well, for example during the scene on the couch when he’s holding the bracelet and when Dao is patching him up. There’s so much emotion in those moments without him having to overdo it. I hope his next role will be something darker and more challenging, because I genuinely think he would do so well in that kind of role.

Of course, chemistry has to come from both sides, and Oat did really well too. There was only one moment where he made an expression that I wasn’t completely sure conveyed the right emotion, but that was really the only time I noticed something like that. I didn’t notice anything like that while watching Fourever You / Sun from Another Star, either. Overall, I think Oat is a great actor and captivating to watch. Dao clearly feels a lot, but he isn't naturally someone who verbalizes everything, so Oat's performance often works through his eyes and little facial changes rather than big emotional reactions, which I think he does really well. Oat's real-life personality being so bubbly makes his performance as Dao more impressive.

As for the special episode itself....hmmm, I thought it was fine. It wasn’t anything particularly amazing, but it did what it needed to do: give us some closure for these characters and show us what their life looks like now. There were some funny moments, some sweet ones and some emotional ones. Overall, it was a nice way to wrap things up.

I thought I wouldn’t be ready to say goodbye to Arthit and Daotok, but honestly, I feel pretty satisfied. I’m sad to see them go, but at the same time, I’m really excited to see what Ngern and Oat will do next. They really are a great match, both on and off screen.

Reborn FL + Flirty ML

After her family is mass@cred, a princess is reborn & sheds her former identity to become a ruthless power player. She allies with a brilliant but sickly Crown Prince to root out deception in the royal court. Will their marriage meant only as a means to an end blossom into a love that withstands the tests headed their way?

I was surprised at how addictive this series was. Each episode left me needing to know what happened next. I’m not a fan of multiple love interests vying for the affections of the same Lead so I didn’t expect to enjoy this much - I was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked it. The ML’s open love for the FL kept me coming back for more 🫶🏻

This drama has a ton of moving parts with a lot of characters to keep track of (I kept mistaking people for others 🤪) but it’s not so much that I got lost. Even with everything happening, I thought it was a fairly easy plot to follow so kudos to everyone involved in planning that out.

If you’re a fan of the following, then I think you’d enjoy this drama:

- palace intrigue & political warfare
- unbreakable loyalty & deep betrayals

I admit I skimmed the episodes after ML’s de@th but wowza is there a lot happening at the end!! And I’m SO glad they gave us the bonus mini episode focused solely on their well deserved HEA 🫠🫶🏻 (though an explanation on how the ML came back would’ve been really nice…)

Okay, I’m watching it right now, and my answer is: yes, it is worth it. The plot is moving forward, and the writer clearly knows what they’re doing. The characters—and the way they react to problems and come up with solutions—feel human. I love how human the story is. It is blend of serious storytelling with comical moments with mystery and serious questions about real life, which is hard to find in most dramas. And for me, the story matters the most.

If you want to sit back and enjoy a strong narrative, this is a perfect drama—especially if you like depth, philosophy, and the complex psyche of human nature. It really excels in this area.

So far, there are three particular scenes that have stayed with me:

1: When the ML meets the emperor. It was both sad and logical. The emperor has soldiers to protect him from his own teacher—someone he respects and wants to make proud. At the same time, he is doubtful about whether he has committed evil deeds, and he is so afraid of dying( loosing his power that he is afraid of his own teacher) that he can’t sleep. This scene shows how complex humans are—we feel multiple emotions at once.

2: When the FL speaks to all the leaders and shows them a mirror. It was one of the coolest things I’ve seen. She doesn’t fight—she simply talks, and through her words, she proves that everyone in the room is selfish, hiding behind the robe of righteousness and truth (except for the eunuch which show there are good people in world). I loved this moment. It was exciting and thought-provoking at the same time.

3: The scene where the disciple dies. I didn’t cry for him, but I felt bad for him—and especially for the ML. His good disciple died, and I say “good” because he learned the truth: the people who should have the mortality pill don’t want it because of the injustice it causes, while the ones trying to take it are greedy people who would throw the world into chaos.

These aren’t action scenes, yet I loved them. That said, if you enjoy action, you’ll still get plenty of it. The ML is overpowered and protects the female lead and his people. I won’t lie—I enjoyed every moment he showed his power. He’s calm while effortlessly defeating his opponents, and the background music gives him a strong aura. Scenes like saving the girl at the inn, defeating immortals and clan leaders at the funeral, or walking into the enemy palace and killing everyone while his companion waits outside—these moments are exciting. also FL is good to she is not exceptional like ml but in beginning whenever she fight it looks cool and the moon shaped blade appearing behind looks even cooler.

( now I am finally accepting her as a good girl, I don’t maybe it is me but at begining when I saw her I felt like she is going to be some twisted character in later episodes. why I don’t know! if you think same tell me why?)

I love the fact now our ml power mitigate, and it make sense. now the problem will effect him. which will make the scenes even more intresting. they learned it from 'whisper of fate’ a overpowered ml for long time is boring.

Why it’s not perfect:

The production quality lacks in certain areas. You can notice it in the backgrounds, costumes, and wigs—they’re not top-notch. The direction is decent but not immersive enough to fully pull you into the story. The VFX also isn’t great, so some action scenes look a bit outdated, especially when there’s a mismatch between attacks and their effects.

So why should you still watch it?

“Lack” might not be the right word. The story has strong potential, and the other departments do an acceptable—sometimes good—job. It just feels like a standard production rather than something exceptional. Compared to recent works like Rebirth, VOS, LBG, or POJ, those have better costumes, character design, and action choreography. But that doesn’t make this drama bad—it’s still solid and worth watching.

I’d give it a rating of 7.5 /10 for now.

Teary ... touched on real life issues

This drama was very teary and touched on real life issues and every day struggles in both youth and adult generation.

I have always loved Esther drama she brings the screen and stories to life. This was my first drama watch for the ML and he wasn't so bad, he did come across extremely reserved and left the romance side to Mis Lin, i loved how she took charge and set the pace.

The kids were absolutely fantastic and each of they struggles were real in today's society, suicide has become apparent in this generation and often support from our own society is a struggle. I loved how they stood by each of they team members and never judged or passed judgement.

The football theme was a good story and it shows teamwork and unity and that is was sports are about.

Overall a good watch

Hold a Court — surprisingly good? (review)

Spoiler Warning: minor spoilers ahead

I just finished Hold a Court and honestly… I didn’t expect to like it this much.

It’s a 24-episode Chinese family court drama, and on paper it sounds kind of dry—but it actually turns into a really engaging slice-of-life story about everyday people and messy family problems.

If you like dramas that feel realistic—with a grounded take on grassroots legal work, some moral gray areas, and a bit of light comedy—this might be worth your time.

What it’s about (without overcomplicating it):
The male lead used to be a criminal court judge—very logical, almost emotionally detached—but gets demoted to family court. The female lead is a small-time lawyer struggling financially while taking care of her grandmother.

Most of the drama revolves around different family cases, but one that really stuck with me was a custody battle. At first it looks simple… until you find out the kid is a social media influencer, so custody basically = money + fame.

Both parents are terrible in their own ways, and the show doesn’t try to “clean” them up. The final decision isn’t perfect either—it just feels like the least bad option. And that’s kind of the whole point of the drama.

It keeps asking:
what’s legal vs what’s actually right?

What worked for me:

The whole morality vs legality theme (this is the strongest part)

Cases that feel real and uncomfortable instead of dramatic for no reason

Side characters actually matter—the cases often feel more important than the romance

It doesn’t give perfect endings, just realistic ones

What didn’t work:

Female lead feels inconsistent (sometimes very mature, sometimes oddly childish)

Male lead’s line delivery can feel off at times

Romance is… there, but definitely rushed and secondary

ML starts off really rude, and the transition feels a bit too easy

Acting:
Not mind-blowing, but decent. Gong Jun is somewhere between his stiff and strong performances (if you’ve seen his other dramas, you’ll get what I mean). The female lead is okay too, maybe slightly better emotionally—but the writing doesn’t always help her.

Supporting cast honestly carries a lot of the emotional weight.

Overall:
This isn’t a “main character saves the world” type drama. It’s slower, more grounded, and focused on ordinary people making difficult decisions.

If you’re into slice-of-life with moral dilemmas and realistic storytelling, you’ll probably enjoy it. If you’re here for romance or big dramatic twists, maybe not.

My rating: 8/10

The "Honeymoon"

This special covers, in my opinion, the most boring part of the novel & that's the "honeymoon" after the escape from Daddy Dearest. The most interesting part during that section of the book was the encounter with the SWAT team & somehow they over- and underplayed it here. Overplayed it by making it way more public than it was meant to be, & underplayed it in the number of SWAT who were actually there and how they were dealt with. So the scene came off as ridiculous rather than tense. I'm also surprised they included the girl from the novel, even if they did remove the kissing scene.

COVID *eye roll* it wasn't a part of the book, so it doesn't need to be included. Nothing would have changed plot-wise.

The recap in the beginning was way too long; recapping the last couple of episodes would have been enough.

I don't like that they are also setting up the car accident already, not because it means they are going to skip over anything important, but because it was so blatantly done, and they set up the character to know that the brakes weren't working, so if the accident happens now it's going to make Poppy look forgetful which is something his character isn't supposed to be.

Also, why does this series keep making me think Seal has a thing for Hero? I can't remember if the other adaptations made me feel this way, but it's very in my face in this one, and it's making me cringe. If there were no blood relation between them, I could easily understand it, but they are blood-related. And this is not The Mortal Instruments.

PONTOS POSITIVOS (o que eu gostei):

- Gosto de como vemos o amor da Sang Zhi pelo Duan Jia Xu florescer com o passar dos anos. Ela o conhece bem novinha e vai crescendo apaixonada pelo melhor amigo do irmão;
- A relação de irmãos da Sang Zhi com o Sang Yan é um ponto alto porque soa muito autêntica, mas eu também sinto que faltou um pouco de profundidade porque eles viveram apenas a base de provocações;
- A proposta do projeto é ser uma romance leve, bonito e divertido, e conseguiram transmitir bem essa imagem;
- A química entre os protagonistas funciona bem dentro da proposta.


PONTOS NEGATIVOS (o que eu não gostei):

- A proposta da série é ser mais contida e sonhadora (o típico romance perfeito e sem falhas), mas se apoiando nisso temos alguns defeitos. Sang Zhi mesmo adulta tem alguns comportamentos bem infantis, o que a leva a ter um relacionamento um pouco estranho com o namorado por estar sempre se esquivando e fugindo de qualquer tipo de intimidade (mesmo que seja apenas um beijo);
- Eu citei anteriormente como a relação de irmãos do Sang Yan com a Sang Zhi é um ponto alto (mesmo faltando profundidade), mas a razão disso está 100% na criação que os pais deram para os filhos. Sang Zhi é uma menina e é a mais nova, por isso ela é bem mimada e sente que o irmão tem que estar sempre a bajulando e fazendo o que ela quer (e isso é apoiado pelos pais), logo, eles vivem a base de implicâncias e nada mais ( Sang Yan ainda é mais centrado e demostra amor e carinho pela irmã);
- Seguindo nesse mesmo caminho temos os pais da Sang Zhi que tentando ser bons pais acabam sendo sufocantes e controladores se recusando a deixar a filha crescer;
- Agora algo bobo, mas que realmente me incomodou, foi o Duan Jia Xu beijando de olho aberto.


Essa é uma história realmente apaixonante e divertida de se acompanhar, mas algumas coisas são meio cômicas para mim, como por exemplo eles considerarem 5 anos uma diferença de idade realmente relevante e o quão devoto o Duan Jia Xu é, fazendo a vida girar ao redor da Sang Zhi.

Mas é uma ótima série com uma ótima atmosfera. Eu adoro.

Mixed emotions

I ended up with mixed emotions after watching the drama.

On one side, I got a dopamine hit from the happy ending and enjoyed the main 'leads' performance, which convinced me of their true feelings, since, from my point of view, it is very difficult when you are framed in rom-coms. I personally like the no-dating-in-high-school campaign; I like this trend of the FL with great achievements complementing and even saving the ML, and the scenery and costumes, which made it worth going through 29 episodes.

On the other hand, the plot relied too much on main-character chemistry and soap-opera-typical drama, with exaggerated characters, and it lacked a consistent script, scene sequencing, and a credible story to identify with.

For example, when they eloped, they took a train with nothing but the clothes they were wearing, then suddenly appeared with a fully complete, neat wardrobe. Then two teenagers full of hormones living together, kissing each other, and nothing happened—too much asian drama style.

From my perspective, exploring the challenges of a rich ML suddenly exposed to poverty, doing low-level, hard-working jobs, and the challenge of daily life as a couple at such a young age will be very interesting, and even educational as a wake-up call.

The gangsters were also exaggerated, as was the grandfather, whose character could be deleted and nothing would happen, and no wonder the father almost looked like a silent-movie villain. The half-brother's performance was poor and unnecessary, with the same expression whether happy or sad, losing the opportunity to develop a good story about an illegitimate child born out of wedlock.

Then the ML's behavior after they found each other years later was like a maniacal, dominant psycho, and the independent FL suddenly became submissive, accepting the most outrageous situation.

The second leads’ story was very good and deserved more scenes, since it showed the challenges of a couple after getting married, as the female lead expressed in one scene. Still, it was left hanging because it seemed easier to rely too heavily on the main-character chemistry.

No wonder about scene mistakes, changing locations within the same scene, the typical wardrobe mistakes in Chinese dramas, sudden solutions without explanation, and characters living a great life without income.

In the end, I enjoyed it, but I regret not watching a better drama that wasted the great chemistry between the leads.

A Show That Never Fails to Amaze Me

I honestly don't think I can put into words how much I love The Truth. This variety show has a very special place in my heart. There is something so satisfying about watching a story unfold when you know that every clue, character, costume, set, dialogue, and little detail has been carefully planned beforehand. The writers create their plots so effortlessly that I am constantly amazed by the way everything eventually connects.
What makes it even more impressive is that the actors themselves often seem genuinely surprised by what happens. They enter the dungeon knowing they are playing a role, but once the story begins unfolding, they become part of that world too. The mystery, the characterization, the NPCs, the clues, the twists, it all comes together so naturally that it is easy to forget that this is a variety show.
I started watching The Truth in Season 2 because of Zhang Linghe, and somewhere along the way, I completely fell in love with the entire show. At this point, I feel like the cast is only one part of the reason I keep coming back. I genuinely want to appreciate the entire behind-the-scenes team. The amount of work that must go into planting every clue, designing the sets, preparing the costumes, developing the characters, writing the plots, coordinating the NPCs and creating all those little details is incredible. And the fact that they can sometimes surprise even the actors makes it even more impressive.

Season 4 Started With a Bang

This season started incredibly well, and I was hooked almost immediately. The helicopter and boiler sequence, the opening cage and electric game, and then Zhang Linghe playing that ridiculously possessive husband who was ready to punish a mosquito for biting his wife......DAMN. I was having so much fun watching it.
The two-hour episodes genuinely feel too short to me. That is how much I enjoy this show. And I absolutely love that they continue to provide extra content alongside the main episodes. It makes the experience feel much more complete and gives viewers something to enjoy between episodes.
I especially loved seeing the female guests this season. They were entertaining, cute, energetic and genuinely involved in the stories rather than simply being there as guests. The new combination still had that same team spirit, and everyone seemed genuinely comfortable with one another and, most importantly, genuinely excited to be there. That enthusiasm matters so much in a show like this. You can tell when the cast is enjoying themselves, and that enjoyment becomes contagious.
Chen Dengxin was a wonderful new addition this season. His enthusiasm and energy fit the show really well, and it was genuinely fun watching him become part of the team. I also really enjoyed the guest lineup this season, especially Wang Yuwen and Zhang Ruonan. Both of them felt like wonderful surprise additions, and I loved watching them become immersed in their respective stories.
And Jin Jing and Zhang Linghe's interactions have become one of my favourite things. Their old flirty dynamic has somehow evolved into sibling-like banter, and you can tell they are both having so much fun with it. Zhang Linghe finally fighting back with the "bro" energy was hilarious. Although, there were still moments when Jin Jing managed to leave him completely speechless!

The Dungeons

Among the different dungeons, I personally enjoyed Ghost Village and Animal Kingdom the most. But the final four episodes were on another level.
The concept of them being inside a game and completing different missions initially seemed relatively straightforward. But the way all those seemingly separate stories were eventually connected was genuinely impressive. The ending gave the whole concept so much more emotional weight, and I remember thinking, How do you even come up with something like this?
One thing I particularly appreciate about The Truth is that its stories usually try to carry some kind of moral or emotional message. They aren't simply mysteries designed around finding the culprit. There is usually something underneath the case that makes you think about people, choices, relationships or society.
This season also gave much more space to the game elements, and personally, I enjoyed that balance. The compatibility test, the stunts during the Starlit Cafe AI story, the different sections of the set suddenly moving...there were so many moments where I was enjoying them so much.

The NPCs Deserve Their Own Appreciation

The NPCs this season were AMAZING.
They were completely committed to their characters, and their acting made the stories so much more immersive. A special mention absolutely has to go to Le Fei. His characters throughout the season were fantastic, and his acting and screen presence were so good that I genuinely looked forward to seeing what character he would play next. The NPCs are such an important part of The Truth. They are part of the story, and because they can potentially hold crucial information or even be connected to the mystery, their performances directly affect how invested we become in the case.
The acting overall this season was excellent. Everyone seemed completely immersed in their roles. You could feel the emotions they were portraying, whether it was pain, fear, anger, happiness or confusion. That level of commitment makes the stories much more convincing.

A Slight Change in Complexity

One thing I did notice this season was that the stories felt somewhat less complex than those in previous seasons.
Compared with Seasons 2 and 3, there seemed to be fewer complicated mathematical clues, riddles, alphabetical puzzles, promotional quizzes and extremely layered timelines. In previous seasons, there were cases where one episode could contain an almost overwhelming amount of information, and I loved that challenge.
Interestingly, I even though wanted those complexity , I actually appreciate that Season 4 slowed things down a little. For an international viewer, The Truth can sometimes be difficult to follow because there are so many characters, NPCs, conversations, timelines and tiny details to keep track of. This season felt more approachable and gave me more room to simply enjoy the story rather than constantly trying to solve every puzzle. I also really liked the games incorporated between the investigations. They brought a burst of energy and then allowed the story to slow down again. That created a nice rhythm throughout the season.
That said, I do hope the next season brings back some of the complexity from the earlier seasons. I would love to see more intricate clues, layered narratives, challenging puzzles and stories.

And Then Came the Final Four Episodes...

The final four episodes were a BANGER.
I absolutely loved the way the stories came together. What initially looked like separate missions inside a game eventually became something much bigger and much more emotional. That kind of storytelling is exactly why I love The Truth. The show manages to make you laugh, make you curious, make you try to solve the mystery and then suddenly hit you with an emotional connection that you weren't expecting.
I know this season may have been a little more relaxed in terms of the complexity of its mysteries, but I still loved it.
I've been watching The Truth since Season 2, and I know I will keep watching it for as long as they continue making it. These past three months have been such a joy, and honestly, I am already going to miss having new episodes to look forward to.
There is so much more I could say about every single episode, every character, every little moment and even the behind-the-scenes content, but somehow whatever I write still feels insufficient.
I genuinely hope they keep making more and more seasons, because I will absolutely be here for them.

Bittersweet Love ?

This story kept me watching from the very first episode. In a time where love between same sex partners was looked upon as a sin. This amazing story tells us that love is just love. It shows what a timid country boy can accomplish just by purely being himself. He was never loved by his family. He was married off to an influential family. Because his older brother was the favorite. He was humiliated by both his family and his wifes family constantly. However he found love from the list expected person his brother in law. At first I thought LV Quin was using Xiao Fan. But than I finally realized that LV Quin did fall in love with Xiao Fan, as the story unfolds I started to see the love between them both. They both took care of eachother in different ways. I hope to see this 2 actors work together in the future. I would love to see a 2nd season. Amazing actors. Lovely story.

If you’re watching for Xiwei Tian ...

If you’re like me and came from Pursuit of Jade because of Xiwei Tian, there’s enough of her here to keep you happy. She does a fine job portraying her cute, smart, and sometimes naïve character; it’s almost everything else that’s a letdown.

First, the balance and pacing of the story are off. If you’re younger, you might disagree, but for me, the school arc did not need to take around 18 episodes to complete. All the interesting stuff in the story takes place after a time skip into adulthood. The show lingers on this school arc for too long to establish character weaknesses, family dynamics, and whatnot. I found it relatively boring and plain compared to similar shows.

Then there is ML. My brain has glazed over from how dull this ML is, both in his younger years and into adulthood. I understand the choices he makes with the story putting him in difficult situations, but the acting and character depth are completely lacking. It's so boring. How the FL even fell in love with him is beyond me.

The friends surrounding the FL and ML are the main reasons to watch this show. This is another case where all the other relationships, aside from the main couple, are far more interesting and worth your time. For me, FL’s brother had the best relationship.
