Oh Jung Se Never Misses

One thing I didn't really support was the male lead's decision. It felt selfish, even if I understood where he was coming from. Knowing he was going to die anyway, he didn't seem to care about the consequences his actions would have on the people around him. Thankfully, he eventually realized the impact of what he was doing, but it took him a while to get there.

Jae Mi was honestly the character I felt the most sorry for. At first, I thought her dream of becoming a mother was a bit unrealistic, but the more I learned about her, the more it made sense. She grew up without experiencing the warmth of a real family, so her desire to create one of her own was actually heartbreaking.

The real MVP for me, though, was Heung. He was incredibly kind, thoughtful, and considerate throughout the series. Yes, he could be childish at times, but that mostly came from the way he was raised and his complicated relationship with his mother. Out of everyone in the cast, he ended up being my favorite character.

An honorable mention goes to Madam Bong Suk. Her relationship with Hae Jo was one of the most touching parts of the series. Their bond felt genuine, heartfelt, and added a lot of emotional depth to the story.

Another thing I really loved was the OST. Every song fit the mood perfectly and made the emotional scenes even more impactful. Visually, the series was also beautifully shot, with plenty of memorable cinematography.

Overall, I thought this was a solid watch. The story wasn't groundbreaking, but it was heartfelt enough to keep me invested, and the performances elevated the material. And as always, Oh Jung Se delivered another outstanding performance. He's one of those actors who never disappoints.

I Promise I am Not a Troll...

At this rate my drama ratings are going to make me look like a troll.

I promise I'm not. I just have a terrible track record with dramas that everyone says are masterpieces. Ooops.

I was excited for this one. These are exactly my kinds of dramas. I love crime thrillers like Signal and its contemporaries, so I thought this would be right up my alley.

And to be fair, on a technical level, I completely get the hype.

The story is layered, nuanced, and intelligently written. The acting is flawless. The chemistry across the cast is excellent. The cinematography is gorgeous too.I loved the moody colour palette and restrained visual style. It feels meticulously directed and beautifully produced. You can tell everyone involved knew exactly what drama they wanted to make.

My issue wasn't the quality.It was the pacing.

I've searched Reddit because I genuinely thought I was going crazy, and I was relieved to find plenty of people articulating the same issue. They articulate better than I do so if you find yourself in the existential crisis that I was in of not gelling with Beyond Evil, please checkout Reddit. The pacing in Beyond Evil isn't an accident ,it's a deliberate stylistic choice. You can tell it was carefully considered, and I respect that.

It just didn't work for me.

The opening is incredibly restrained and insular, and then once the story begins revealing itself, it almost swings too far in the opposite direction. It felt like a sneeze in reverse—you spend ages waiting for it, and then suddenly everything comes rushing out.

I just couldn't gel with it.

I watched the first five episodes, skipped ahead to key reveals, and then watched the ending. So yes... I technically dropped it and consumed it in bits and bobs. I know, I know. 😭

But this now joins a very specific list of dramas that simply aren't my cup of tea despite me fully acknowledging they're objectively excellent. My Mister, Dong Yi, The Crowned Clown... and now Beyond Evil.

So if you're someone who enjoys slow-burn, highly restrained storytelling, you'll probably have an amazing time with this.

But if, like me, you keep feeling like something just isn't quite clicking... you're definitely not alone.

I really enjoyed this one❤️

After Beside The Sky, I honestly enjoyed this story so much more. It felt more complete, the pacing was better, and I found myself getting invested in the characters much more easily.

One thing I absolutely loved was seeing ghosts being scared of humans instead of the other way around 😂

The relationship between Arthit and Dao developed beautifully. Nothing felt forced, and I really enjoyed watching their bond grow naturally. Their chemistry was amazing, but what completely stole the show for me were Arthit's expressions whenever he was "near" Dao. The intensity in his eyes was insane. They were literally screaming, "I want you," and I was obsessed 😭❤️

I also loved learning about Arthit's past, especially the emotional moments involving his mother. Some of those scenes genuinely broke my heart 😭

My only disappointment was Dao's backstory. We know he has these supernatural abilities, but the series never really explains how or why. It was treated as if it were completely normal, and I kept waiting for an explanation that never came.

Overall, I really enjoyed this one. It had a fun concept, great chemistry, and a story that kept me hooked throughout. It was definitely a big step up from Beside The Sky and made me even more excited to watch the final story. ❤️

You'll be missed Huiju and Lee Wan

The perfect balance of rom to com! You can get a toothache from how sweet both our leading and second couples are. The modern monarchy aspect was really interesting because we got to see a traditional Joseon monarch wedding in modern day. It was so beautiful! Along with the wedding, it was such a contrast seeing all the traditional wooden Joseon style homes matched with modern and sleek furniture interiors and even the styling of our ML. The set design, fashion styling, environment and overall cinematography is truly captivating.

Aside from the trials and tribulations that our characters go through, it was heartwarming to witness how loyalty, tenderness, and love can be the catalyst for someone to change. Both our ML and FL find courage to be who they are embracing all their vulnerability and even making hard sacrifices, all while striving to create a better world for each other full of warmth and belonging.

Forging a better path forward

This is a beautifully produced period drama that includes all the great things I love about period dramas: a little romance, a little revenge, a lot of game of thrones, and a pithy script that explores all the highs and lows of human and nature. As expected of the main writer and director of this drama, this is a worthy though heavy story to savor slowly. Additionally, Bai Lu and Cheng Lei give perhaps some of their best performances of late, a welcome respite from the myriad idol dramas they have been in these recent years.

However, in the season of summer when one might want something more blockbuster-y, this drama may be a little too sad and pedantic at times to really soar. The rousing final act with its action-filled climax is overshadowed by a prolonged denouement, as the script struggles to balance the multiple antagonists.

Still, this is probably one of the best period C dramas this year and is a must watch for all period drama lovers. It's ultimately a story about coming out of darkness, out of your haunted past, and forging a better path forward. A path not riddled with putting down others so that you can thrive, but a path of cultivating truth, light and justice.

At an unconventional school where children are allowed to play, feel, and exist outside rigid expectations, Tatsuki gently guides everyone to a place where maybe being “too kind” is just what the world calls people who actually listen.

Tatsuki felt like a human weighted blanket with unresolved trauma. He was gentle, warm, but clearly carrying pain that had not been fully unpacked yet. Shizuku brought structure and skepticism. She gave “I printed the lesson plan” energy. The kids were the heart of the show, each one quietly reminding me of the child in me, and that children are not problems to fix but tiny humans with their own very complicated weather systems.

Not a fireworks drama, more of a “sit by the window and rethink your childhood” drama.

The plot moved gently, like it was wearing indoor slippers. Most of the time, that worked beautifully. It gave the show space to breathe, reflect, and teach without feeling too preachy. But when it came to Tatsuki and his son, the pacing suddenly grabbed a teeny tiny umbrella and sprinted through a typhoon. The most j-drama moments were whenever someone learned a life-changing lesson it was through a quiet activity, a soft room, and a single sentence so gentle it somehow rearranges your entire thought process.

☁︎ ⏤ What Worked ::
The visual palette was gorgeous: soft symmetry, warm tones, and gentle pastels, like a Wes Anderson film wandered into a Japanese school and decided to stay for tea. I also loved how much the show explored child psychology, therapy, education styles, parenting styles, and the idea that “good parenting” is not always about control, achievement, or obedience. It was comforting, but also quietly educational, like a drama that hands you tissues and a summer reading list.

☁︎ ⏤ What Needed More Time ::
Tatsuki and his son without a doubt needed more time. That relationship had deep pain, but the resolution felt rushed, like the drama knew the wound existed but did not fully sit with it long enough to let it heal. I wanted fewer emotional shortcuts and more honest rebuilding there.

☁︎ ⏤ Emotional Damage Report ::
Mostly healing, slightly tearful, occasionally “wow, adults really do pass down their unfinished homework to children.” This drama did not destroy me, but I think I should definitely get back into journaling.

'Tatsuki: Too Kind for School' is a tender, thoughtful, beautifully colored little drama. It gave me warmth, reflection, and a new appreciation for gentle teaching, but the father-son storyline needed more emotional homework before graduation.

Not enough talked about

This series had me hooked from the second I started it. The storyline of all characters good or evil are all well explained and pictured. Yes Hong Ji-a & Oh In-beom are the main characters and there chemistry is amazing! Well done by the actors not just them but all of them. But there chemistry isn’t something you see much. I was a little disappointed by the fact they don’t end up as a couple but for the storyline it makes sense as he can’t be pure (a virgin) and be dating her. But still the love , the care they have for each other is beyond work partners or siblings. They have such an emotional connection and the actors played it so well that you can really feel it. Every episode can make you cry, laugh, empower there are so many emotions going on. But it’s a definitely watch! I’m glad I came across it before they where deleting it from Netflix

great for a one time watch

This film was a surprisingly engaging watch, it delved into some creepy atmosphere during the final thirty min ish of the film especially. The film is made in a way where it looks like it was just a group out exploring a haunted hospital. which adds to the overall suspense and authenticity of the actual exploring of the hospital.
What initially drew my attention to this film this much later after the release was the fact that it is centred around Gonjiam Psychiatric Hospital, an actual real and abandoned mental institution located in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea, Its one of the real like actual spooky abandoned places in Korea. The hospital closed its doors in the 1990s, officially due to issues related to sewage and economic difficulties, rather than the supernatural reasons implied in the movie. But the blend of reality from the real ghost stories and fiction creates an intriguing effect that enhances the film's effectiveness; combining actual historical elements with horror storytelling kinda elevates my experience when I watched the film it added some good suspense and intrigue.
Throughout the film, there are several genuinely frightening things. However, I don't see myself rewatching it. Much like many horror films, once you've experienced the twists and scares, they lose some of their impact on subsequent viewings

I was surprised I liked it as much as I did

The most pleasant surprise for me was Heo Nam Jun. He has such a completely different look from other Korean actors. He's got the face suited to a villain, and I didn't know what I'd think of him in the role. Oh, my goodness! He's harsh and hateful at times, yet vulnerable and loving at other times. I watched this on the heels of a drama where every time the ML yelled, he was seriously overacting. Not so here. There were a couple of times that he yelled, and I could feel his hurt and anger. This actor has yearning down to a fine art. The economy of movements, the blank stare, the tears in the eyes - it was excellent.

I didn't LOVE the main couple, to me, she seemed older than him. Maybe that was because she was supposed to be from the Joseon era. I do have to say that her continuing to talk like she was in the Joseon period was irritating, and I feel that there were many opportunities lost for her to be a fish out of water and trying to learn technology, etc.

Episode 13 - when her grandmother was dying (which I felt was completely unnecessary), the bus they were on stopped at the bus stop made famous by BTS in Spring Day. It was like the perfect product placement. Though they didn't use the song, if you know the words, it conveys loss and sadness so well. That got me in the feels.

What a story

This is bestest movie i watched in my life. I really liked what an acting of that actor ohh my god really fantabulous 👏👏 while watching the actor i can say he given his 100% effort usually when we watch a rehab people we can say how much they suffer and how uncomfortable it feels like, but i have to say hats off to this actor while watching the movie i felt very uncomfortable looking at jackson yee which means he completely behaved like one who has that disability.

Most important thing this movie conveyed was never give up even though if you are not perfect and normal. We people have many flaws like dark skin , loss of hair we feel like to give up as well as not go in front of people, despite his disability he thought he was a normal person and never gave up and infact wanted to show his talents and efforts in front of others and never hided himself at home and also his romantic desires phase was very touching his dreams are really heart wrenching . But yet he tried his best until he achieved. Even his own parents was not supportive and was doubting his birth disability but this person always tries hard working a master brain and overcoming this obstacles and also maintain a good nature by searching positivity despite in his negative environment . Mostly i never watch emotional movies but this movie i wanted to watch and it was the bestest movie and wanted to write a review.
All the actors acted well his grandma's character was one of lively and supportive character for her grandson. She is the person who protects him and also treats him normal by giving adventurous new tasks in life
Last but not the least director and story writer deserve the praise who came up with this unique idea and story.
A must watch movie and i urge everyone to watch this masterpiece when life feels like overwhelming and giving up. This movie is best motivation and also helps us to go on.

A Journey Worth Taking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A Tale of a Thousand Stars is such a beautiful show. It's one of those series that completely pulls you into its world. Watching it felt like I was living in that small rural community alongside everyone, experiencing their everyday lives and becoming a part of their world.

The storytelling is amazing. It never feels rushed, and every scene has a purpose. The directing makes everything feel so real and immersive that you stop feeling like you're watching a show and simply enjoy living in it for a while.

Earth and Mix were amazing. Their performances felt so natural, and their chemistry was beautiful to watch. The cinematography is stunning, and the emotions throughout the show feel genuine and heartfelt. This one is definitely worth watching.

Should Have Named This "The Overdose of Lishan Tragedy That Fails To Make Space For Anything Else"

Positive Points
1. The cast, especially Bai Lu & Cheng Lei, were just brilliant. Bai Lu probably gave the best performance of her career (at least in my opinion). Cheng Lei was great too, as he always is (though I felt his expressions were all the same in the 2nd half, I blame the writing). The cinematography felt smooth and natural. Though not overly artistic, the flow of the story felt natural. I liked that the editors chose not to overuse the filters so that it does not become distracting. The editing was consistent, though at the end of each episode, it felt like it ended abruptly. The OST was not that melodious, but it suited the vibe of the drama.
2. The female lead was written really well, and her being actually mentally ill gives it a fresh touch. The storytelling was so good for the first half. I love a smart FL always. Even if the drama might not be up to my liking, Bai Lu did not disappoint me with her character choice as always.
3. The action scenes were very limited and few, but the choreography was done exceptionally well, which felt engaging and entertaining. The parallel of the past and present in the action scenes was done brilliantly. That little duel with the flower branch between the 2 leads was a cherry on top.

Negative Points
1. What happened to Mo Xiu Yao’s character? Though the ML was made more realistic in the drama version, the main focus was that Mo Xiu Yao, though physically constrained to a wheelchair, was nowhere near considered weak. All the antagonists were afraid of him. He certainly was not someone who was at the mercy of the FL. Even in the drama version, his character was portrayed as a broken, worn-out, but a man who was strong and resilient at the start. I absolutely hate when ML/FL is suddenly made pitiful and weak deliberately to glorify the brilliance and compassion of the other lead (ML/FL). Drama Mo Xiu Yao was at his lowest point, and his struggles were relatable to me until he got healthy again. After that, his character felt more like he got sidelined to me. The divorce arc, though necessary, felt like it was done to make the FL pitiful. The ML behaved a bit out of character in my opinion (that arc I felt completely contradicts his character shown in the earlier part of the drama). A female-centric or male-centric, whatever drama it is, should not make the other ML/FL weak or make him/her suddenly do terrible out-of-character things just to make the viewers pity the main lead. Unless the story demands and a character is weak right from the start, I absolutely hate such deliberate foul play. Here in the Lishan track, Mo Xiu Yao felt too rational and calm to me in his actions. The FL here is all in all square and never needs the ML to do anything, even when she is almost executed in a false murder case. The writers promoted companionship, and although I felt it initially, it later felt missing. The only character that the writer wrote properly was the FL. The ML was written halfway, but probably the writer lost interest or forgot about him. The ML’s 2 most important problems in life were solved by the FL. The writers should have at least shown cooperation and scheming between the 2 leads for recovering that lost edict. That edict is more important to Mo Xiu Yao than Ye Li, honestly. Initially, though the dynamics between the leads were good, but later the writing suffered, and it became a cliché in my opinion. By the time I reached towards the recovery of the lost imperial edict, I felt the charm of the lead’s relationship was gone. I found their divorce arc and the rest of the plot poorly written. It started really well, but it was, as usual, like many other dramas lost the momentum and quality writing from the middle. I absolutely love female-centric dramas, but what I love more is complete storytelling where no matter which character was the main focus (Male-centric/Female-centric), all other characters, including the other ML/FL, minor characters, and antagonists, are properly written characters with depth, and they contribute something to the story instead of being written solely with purpose of complimenting or glorifying the ML/FL. They had cast an actor like Cheng Lei as the ML, but completely wasted his potential with shallow writing and failing to make his character add any value to the whole story. Due to the writing, he completely feels like a side character kept solely as the love interest of the FL without contributing anything substantial of his own to the story (screentime is not the issue for me).

2. The finale lacked the action and punch it needed to be considered as a finale (except for some parts of the last episode). This drama seriously lacked a proper antagonist. The main villains did not seem powerful, nor did they seem crazy enough to be considered antagonists. The antagonist Mo Jingli hardly feels like a villain. The Empress Dowager does not feel frightening to me either. I have seen enough dramas that have managed to build a proper antagonist with little screen time who has had enough impact on the overall story. This drama tried to focus more on the moral conscience of the antagonists instead of any proper action. Where did the FL suddenly came from in the middle of a palace coup? Moreover, why include the ML for 1 or 2 moves at the end of the battle scene of Mo Jingli with Ye Li. Either include the ML properly or don’t include him at all. How come, after that glorious defeat, Mo Jingli managed to enter the capital for a palace coup with enough soldiers? How was so many Eastern Palace supporters were spared for them to make a comeback? The military requires a lot of money. How come Mo Jingli, who was so pitiful that he deliberately pretended to be incompetent and foolish, managed to learn so many things? Where did he get the money, or manage to keep such a large army for his purpose, without the knowledge of the Empress Dowager? The politics, twists, and finale were absolutely sloppy. The entire story revolves around Ye Li’s mental illness and the tragedy of Lishan. My personal speculation is that they did not follow the novel at all due to a budget shortage. But if you did not have enough budget for writing a proper battle, climax, or politics to make the finale tense and impactful, then you should not have made this drama in the first place. The producers choose to pick out a novel with heavy warfare and politics, but fail to create any decent twists or politics that are worthy of the finale to save money. Absolutely disappointed.

3. I absolutely hated how the arc of the FL’s mental illness treatment was handled. Mental illness, no matter the reasons, is a serious issue. It does not vanish just like that. The Lishan track felt superficial to me due to such careless writing. It could have been treated better, and it’s not like the drama had a lot to focus on, as they had shamelessly misled the viewers about it being an adaptation of the original novel, while they took absolutely nothing from it except the names of the characters and Mo Xiu Yao’s white hair. Once Ye Li came to her senses and faced the truth of Lishan, her illness was cured just like that. The writers created such a melodramatic divorce arc and made the ML chase the FL to Lishan with white hairs but as soon as they came face to face, all the ML says is that “The past graviences has nothing to do with the FL” and baam the divorce issue gets completely forgotten by all. Even after her memory came back, they did not have a proper talk to sort it out.

4. Princess Ling Yun was shown as such an intelligent woman who absolutely did not trust her maid, Su Zui Die. How come she was suddenly killed by her like that? It felt absolutely odd. How come Mo Xiu Yao did not know anything about his wife being framed for murder? Mo Xiu Yao’s best friend and his family did not inform Mo Xiu Yao about his wife being in such serious trouble. The FL manages to get the supposed to be super intelligent but actually suddenly foolish ex-fiancé of her husband to publicly confess everything so that she can be captured (who plotted for years and murdered the super smart princess and framed another super-intelligent princess consort).

PS. It’s a request to the drama makers not to promote the dramas as an adaptation of a novel when they, for whatever reasons, won’t take anything from the novel except for the names. It’s completely misleading and highly disappointing to the novel readers who got hyped over nothing. This drama deviated so much from the novel that it should probably be called an original script instead of a novel adaptation.

PS. Though I did not want to mention the novel, if the Novel Mo Xiu Yao watched the action of the drama Mo Xiu Yao (especially towards Ye Li), he would have slapped him from dawn to dusk and might even chase him with a sword to kill him (Probability is 1000%).
