many dislike because of ,ml career or not depth to the characters, first of all 90% cdrama don't show a proper slow burn romance? or chemistry? i drop many just because of this ? this one they don't show how much FML liked him in past, but it's slow burn ,they have romantic interaction before and after relationship, they have healthy relationship,love isn't forced random or fast ? atleast they show how romance actually should be , ml career scenes were unnecessary and too long you have to skip it, most high rated cdrama don't even have a proper romance or how it should be , many cdrama has good background plot but focus is always other things? other unnecessary things in cdrama are villians, side characters,2nd couples,drama etc you need drma like this when you watch too many like the one I mentioned above where romance is non-existent

Perfect Crown — Beautifully Made, Politically Intriguing, and Driven by Strong Romantic Tension

Perfect Crown (also known as Wife of a 21st Century Prince) is one of those K‑dramas that reminds you why the form endures. It is beautifully made, with elegant production values, confident direction, and acting that consistently lands. There’s a light thriller‑mystery thread running through the story, never overwhelming the narrative, but giving it a steady hum of tension.

At the centre of it all is the romantic pairing of IU as Seong Hee‑ju and Byeon Woo‑seok as Grand Prince Yi‑an. IU is fabulous — poised, emotionally precise, and quietly magnetic — and she gives the drama much of its heart. Byeon Woo‑seok is pretty good too, especially in the way he plays Yi‑an’s restraint and vulnerability. Together, they generate strong romantic tension that acts as a counterbalance to the political manoeuvring and the mystery elements, giving the series a warmth and human pulse even when the plot shifts direction.

The political world‑building is surprisingly textured. Although the drama describes its setting as a constitutional monarchy, the system functions more like a semi‑constitutional structure: the Crown holds real executive power but is supported — and sometimes challenged — by an elected cabinet. It’s an intriguing setup, and the show is at its best when exploring how tradition, legitimacy, and modern governance collide.

The Queen Mother provides much of the open hostility in the palace storyline, and the drama plays cleverly with our uncertainty: at times we’re not sure whether she is a villain, a political realist, or a reluctant supporter of the Grand Prince. What is clear is her love for her young son, the King, though strict at times, a performance that adds emotional grounding to the palace scenes. Her shifting loyalties give the political arc a welcome unpredictability.

The young King and the love for his uncle is a very nice, and welcome, touch.

Prime Minister Min, friend to both our leads, was a bit of a flop for me. The writing of his character needed to be sharper, more layered, and more consistent with the tone of the show. Even so, he has great presence — the kind of actor who can fill a scene even when the script doesn’t quite know what to do with him.

Where the drama falters is in its final episode. It suffers from a recognisably Korean ending: a sudden shift in focus, a rush to resolve big thematic questions, and a pivot toward political system reform that ultimately undermines the story the series had been carefully building. The 12‑episode length simply wasn’t enough. You can feel the compression everywhere — character arcs that needed space, political ideas that deserved deeper exploration, and a mystery that could have unfolded with more elegance if given time.

One performance deserves special mention: Lee Sung‑min as Lord Seo. My hat goes off to him — a standout performance. He brings gravitas, intelligence, and a quiet authority to every scene. He has become a dab hand at playing morally ambiguous or outright dangerous figures (Alchemy of Souls, anyone), and here he elevates the palace storyline with ease.

I just finished a splendid match, but the ending left me emotionally unsatisfied. Technically it was happy ending, yet it felt like incomplete - like the emotional comfort and closure I longed since the the rise of ning never truly arrived. After everything the characters went through, I expected a warmer, more reassuring final moments between them . Instead, the end felt rushed and emotionally distant, leaving a strange emptiness rather than the peaceful happiness I was hoping for . It's not that the ending was tragic, it's just that the emotional payoff was missing for me as I was hoping to see them together for a long long time

Strong start...ending...sigh

Pros: I loved all the couples in this drama. It was really nice to see a historical costume drama where most of the married couples we see are actually in love. That's honestly rare to see. Additionally, the chemistry the female lead had with the male and the second male lead was nice. I also really enjoyed watching everyone's acting. Lastly, issues that arose in the relationship between GJZ (fl) and CYY (ml) were solved very quickly and not dragged out.

Cons: The plot. Lmao, it's all over the place. They were trying to do so many things with so few episodes. Honestly, in order for a drama to be well executed and have both romance and politics, it needs to have at least 50 episodes. It felt like they rushed through the ploticial stuff at the end. Additionally, some of the deaths that occurred in the last episodes were very unnecessary, and we still have unanswered questions. Did the villain actually die? What's going to happen now in court? Although the emperor has proven to be very smart at such a young age, I don't think he can rule/command the court on his own, and all of Cyy's trusted people are gone. So what are they going to do now? These are the questions I would have loved to see answered in the end, but remained unanswered.

All in all, I loved having a community of people to discuss the episodes with day after day. I'll miss watching this show. Hope to see future collaborations between RM, Cisha, and WW in the future again. The three of them did great, as did the rest of the cast.

I CRIED!

spoiler alert ahead!!! this isn't a review.. it is more or so a rant! all you need to do is drop everything and go watch this Tear Jerker

i am an absolute sucker for shows that kind of touch base with the harsh realities of this world! humans are one of the most vile creatures to ever walk on this planet earth and i am willing to stand behind that fact!

What those boys did to that poor innocent girl was truly disgusting, and watching that made me so sad i actually cried - coming from a person who barely cries

This part to me showcased perfectly how if you have money in this world, then everything will come easy to you! and i HATE that, the parents had to settle and the girl had to settle because of the power of money!

the plot is truly amazing.. out of this world! I believe that everyone should watch this show at least once in their life even if it isn't their cup of tea!

The things that these kids went through in this show is just a fraction what some people go through in their day to day basis, it hurts me so bad to see that so many people end up loosing their lives without ever seeing the light at the end of the tunnel even though they did nothing wrong!

the basis of this show is... Life is Hard... so just make sure you have a Boyfriend and Best friend who would be willing to lose everything to their name all for getting justice to your name!

also the fact that one life event can mentally and physically alter a person's life FOREVER...

Chaotic, Addictive, and Full of Revenge

Marry Him in Her Place turned out to be a surprisingly addictive Republican-era revenge drama filled with angst, tension, betrayal, and just enough romance to keep things emotionally engaging. It is not the most logical drama out there, but if you are willing to switch off your brain for a while and simply enjoy the chaos, it becomes a very entertaining watch.

The story follows Liang Yi, who survives betrayal and returns under a new identity as Xu Yin to take revenge on the people who ruined her life. From the very beginning, the drama hooks you with its dark atmosphere, revenge-driven storyline, and emotionally charged confrontations.

One thing I really appreciated was that the male lead was actually intelligent. Instead of dragging out the obvious misunderstanding for half the series, he quickly realizes that the woman before him is not his childhood fiance and eventually figures out her true identity as well. That alone already made the drama feel more refreshing compared to many other revenge mini dramas where the male lead remains clueless forever.

The male lead honestly carries a huge part of the drama. He has the perfect balance of charm, intensity, and emotional restraint, and Ryan Ren’s performance made every scene more engaging. The chemistry between the leads may not be overflowing with soft romance, but the tension between them is excellent. This drama focuses more on angst, obsession, revenge, and emotional pain than pure romance, and that darker dynamic works well for the story.

The villain deserves special mention because he is genuinely terrifying. The ex-husband/fiancé is cruel, manipulative, violent, and unpredictable in a way that makes the revenge arc feel satisfying. Wang Ze Xuan did an incredible job portraying such an unstable and dangerous antagonist that some scenes genuinely felt uncomfortable in the best possible way.

The female lead is good overall, though I would not call her exceptionally smart. Some of her decisions are frustrating, and without the male lead stepping in multiple times, she probably would not have survived several situations. Still, she is not weak, and her determination to get revenge keeps the story emotionally compelling.

The drama also deserves credit for actually using weapons properly. Guns are not just decorative props, which is surprisingly rare in Republican-era dramas. Although some fight scenes and mob weapons looked questionable, the action sequences generally added intensity to the story.

What makes this drama so bingeable is its pacing. The short episodes keep the momentum going, and there is always another twist, betrayal, or confrontation waiting around the corner. Even when the story becomes over-the-top or unrealistic, it remains entertaining enough that you just want to keep watching.

That said, the drama definitely has flaws. Some scenes involving violence between characters, including slapping and knife-related confrontations, can feel excessive. Logic also takes a backseat at times, and certain plot developments require a lot of suspension of disbelief. But honestly, this drama knows exactly what it is. It is dramatic, messy, intense, and emotionally chaotic in a way that somehow works.

Watching this drama felt like eating chaotic street food you know might upset your stomach later, but it tastes so good in the moment that you keep coming back for more. It may not be perfect, but as a short Republican-era revenge drama filled with angst and tension, it is definitely one of the more memorable ones.

A dark, addictive revenge drama with a smart male lead, a terrifying villain, strong emotional tension, and enough chaos to keep you hooked until the very end.

A gripping series with wonderful casts

I started watching this drama with no expectation since I just accidentally came across it. The first two episodes grabbed my attention immediately and I found myself waiting for new episodes to drop daily.

The casts were great especially the leads. The romantic scenes were shot beautifully and the hugs can make one’s heart flutter. The misunderstandings were resolved quickly since the leads had clear communication. The female lead in this series was very charming, emotionally intelligent and was able to stand up for herself without needing others to save her 24/7. Despite the female lead being able to defend herself, she also has her own weaknesses which I found refreshing and this differentiates this drama from others. Not to mention that the male lead also believes in his partner’s ability to handle herself.

However, in the middle of the series, the plot slowed down and I had to fast forward certain scenes. There was also a plot that took up a few episodes but was not given a proper closure. Near the end of the series, a new plot was being introduced and it just felt so sudden without any buildup.

Overall, this is a great series for those who are searching for a light-hearted romantic series.

MY MOST ANTICIPATED CDRAMA ??

A Splendid Match was my absolute number one most anticipated drama ever since they first started filming, and now that I’ve finished every single episode, I can honestly say it was so worth the wait. The chemistry between Ren Min and Ci Sha is just insane—their acting is on another level, to the point where if they cry I’m crying right with them, and if they laugh I’m laughing too. Their love for each other is just too deep for words. Jinzhao is exactly what a female lead should be; she’s so pretty, brave, and clever, and she really reminds me of Dou Jiao from Blossom with how sharp she is. Her devotion to her husband is everything, and Ren Min completely nailed all her emotional scenes. Ci Sha is just as amazing—he’s so handsome, brilliant, and protective, and the way he loves his wife went way beyond what I even expected. I just love how they constantly support and protect each other without any annoying misunderstandings. Honestly, the whole cast did an amazing job, and I have to mention the production values because the outfits, accessories, and filming locations are so stunning. The female lead’s clothes in particular are just gorgeous and so detailed. On top of all that, the OSTs are absolutely amazing—the music fits every scene perfectly and makes all the emotional moments hit ten times harder. It’s easily a thousand out of ten for me. 🤍💕💕

An interesting character whose backstory is painful but simultaneously worth watching

When I watched this special, I hadn't seen the second film yet. But Oh My God! This special has sold well the character of Alice, who I expect to have a great role in the film.

And before I forget, don't watch this special if you haven't watched the special 'Fukunaga VS Yokoya.' The outcome of that will be spoiled. Also, some scenes from the film are occasionally shown.

Back to the special episodes, as I said, it does well convey how special Alice is. Come to think of it. Alice's story has a parallel with Akiyama's story structurally. It is unfortunate that the special for Akiyama's backstory is dogshit and not worth watching. I can only wish that the care and production made for Alice were done for Akiyama's backstory.

Romance and Politics, Family Drama!

A Splendid Match is not so new genre in which it tells about a lady in family conflict and fictional historical politics. However, what makes it so special for me is the chemistry between the main couple. The politics in drama is also not so difficult to follow through. So overall, it's so easy to engage and get into the story completely.

In early episodes, there weren't many scenes between the main cp. But it cannot hide away the obvious connection. Even when they just look at each other, the chemistry is flowing. Once male lead knew that he was in love, and the way he persue her were all good to watch. I can say that Chen Yan Yun is another male lead type i admire. I love the way he persue love and how smart he is in political game. Ci Sha gives perfect performace for this character, who is mature, smart and romantic.

Ren Min is very beautiful as Gu Jinzhao, our female lead. However, I just have a feeling that I don't understand her much at times. She is a good person in overall, but also a sharp tongue who was not afraid to stand up for herself or told off her own father. I don't understand why she can't call her mother "mother" when she already come good terms with her mother who was then near to victim in her marriage household. The mother was not able to look after her since young because of the father took her away. Nevertheless she was still the mother. So Jinzhao seemed good term with her. So I don't exactly get Jinzhao whether she still holding grudge or not able to forgive the mother wholly?
Her relationship with Ye Xian looks weird at times for me. It felt like they had skipped some parts. Because I was not convinced that they had such deep relationship that he become very important to her. I can see his admiration towards her (but he's too bratty and so immature at times). He did few things for her (not as much as male lead). Him and Jinzhao were mostly on bickering and then she come to see good side of him too. But then I don't think they have spend enough time to get strong bond. Therefore, I just don't understand why she would say he was important to her (just not in romantic way).
Lastly, after her marriage with Chen Yan Yun, I wish she talked properly with Xuan Qing, her first crush, that she no longer have feelings for him. I mean after all she used to crush on him and acted like she liked him before. The guy deep down might still thinking she still have that feeling and was married to Chen Yan Yun for good sake. The way she avoided him just feels she leaves the problem just hanging like that without solving it.

Despite some confusing stuffs, A Splendid Match is a nice watch so far. It's generally beautiful historical setting. Costume are beautiful. The casts give superb performance(especially from the older generation).
I have watched so far up to episode 32. I will update my review once I watch to the end of drama.
My current is score 8.5. Generally a good watch though with some confusing flaws.
