The Village Barber is such a gem that prioritizes connection and community. It follows three men—Lee Sang-yi, Kwak Dong-yeon, and Park Bo-gum—as they open a pop-up hair salon in a small village, but the show is about so much more than just haircuts.

The Trio’s Synergy:
The heart of this show is the three leads. Lee Sang-yi is the group’s emotional anchor. He exudes warmth to bridge the gap between celebrity and neighbor. I loved the way he moved effortlessly from nail tech to fertilizer mover to tutor to repairman! Kwak Dong-yeon has a great character arc, visibly coming out of his shell as the episodes progress. He's such a great chef and it was so cute to see him interact with his kitchen helper and tear up at the end when reading the kids' letters! Park Bo-gum's work ethic is so inspiring. His dedication to mastering the craft and his deep, focused attention to every client’s story reminded me why he is so beloved. I also enjoyed the chemistry with the surprise guests, especially Rain!

Emotional Resonance:
This isn't just a "job" variety show. It is a study on how presence can change a community. I was crying during the finale, seeing the villagers return to the shop even after the trio had left was the ultimate proof of the impact they made. It wasn't just about getting a haircut; it was about the space they created where the locals felt seen and cared for.

Verdict:
Heartwarming, sincere, and well paced. If you need a healing show that restores your faith in kindness or encouragement to try something you're not completely sure of, this is it.

A Story of Brotherhood, Love, and Ambition

Twin of Brothers starts off fun and adventurous, but the deeper you get into the story, the more emotional and serious it becomes. The drama had a really good balance of comedy, martial arts, romance, politics, and friendship, which made it hard to stop watching once everything started picking up.

What really carried the drama for me was the relationship between Kou Chong and Tsui Ling. They were complete opposites in personality, but their brotherhood was what made the series so entertaining. Kou Chong was ambitious, reckless, and charismatic, while Tsui Ling was calmer, smarter, and more level headed. Even though they constantly argued and got themselves into trouble, you could tell they genuinely cared about each other. Their bond felt natural, and a lot of the emotional moments worked because of how believable their friendship was.

The martial arts world in this drama was chaotic because everyone wanted the Changsheng Formula. The moment Kou Chong and Tsui Ling got their hands on it, their lives completely changed. Suddenly every sect, every powerful fighter, and every political force was after them. Half the time they were just trying to outsmart people far stronger than them, which was honestly how they survived in the beginning. Watching them slowly grow from street kids into feared martial artists was one of the most satisfying parts of the story because it felt earned rather than rushed.

One of the biggest emotional driving forces in the drama was Kou Chong’s relationship with Li Sau Ning. Li Sau Ning came from a wealthy and respected background, while Kou Chong started off as nothing more than a street kid trying to survive. Kou Chong fell in love with her at first sight, and despite the huge difference in their status, his feelings for her became one of the main reasons he pushed himself so hard to become stronger and make a name for himself. He wanted to become someone worthy enough to stand beside her.

You could also see how much Li Sau Ning influenced Kou Chong’s growth as a character. In the beginning, Kou Chong was carefree and immature, but his love for her pushed him to become more ambitious and determined. At the same time, his experiences throughout the drama slowly changed him into someone more hardened and emotionally mature. Their relationship had a bittersweet feeling because even when they were together, there was always something pulling them apart.

What made their relationship frustrating was the constant miscommunication, which slowly led to its downfall. Li Sau Ning definitely loved Kou Chong, but her loyalty to her family and responsibilities constantly got in the way. There were so many moments where you could tell she wanted to choose him, but she could never fully let go of the expectations placed on her. Kou Chong valued freedom and followed his heart, while Li Sau Ning was tied down by duty, status, and family obligations. No matter how much they loved each other, it always felt like the timing was against them.

I actually liked that their relationship wasn’t written as a simple romance because it felt more realistic for the world they lived in. Love alone wasn’t enough to overcome politics, family loyalty, and ambition. Kou Chong spent so much of the drama trying to prove himself worthy of her, but at the same time, the higher he climbed and the more powerful he became, the more complicated their relationship got.

I also liked how Kou Chong’s character eventually became more than just his love for Li Sau Ning. The influence of the Changsheng Formula slowly changed the way he thought and viewed the world, even if it was temporary. It added another layer to his character and made his development feel more interesting and unpredictable.

Overall, Twin of Brothers is one of those classic TVB wuxia dramas that had a little bit of everything: action, comedy, romance, heartbreak, political conflict, and strong character relationships. It wasn’t perfect, and some parts definitely dragged, but the chemistry between the main cast and the emotional weight of the story made it memorable.

A Timeless TVB Classic That Never Gets Old

This is a classic TVB drama that I can watch again and again and never get tired of. A Step into the Past remains one of the best time travel dramas TVB has ever produced, with a perfect mix of comedy, romance, action, and political intrigue.

Hong Siu Lung and Chun Ching had been dating for a long time. Chun Ching wanted to get married while Hong Siu Lung didn’t seem ready to commit. She waited and waited, but he never showed any real desire to settle down. Eventually, Chun Ching broke up with him and revealed that she was going to marry someone else. This part really ticked me off because it made it seem like she already had someone on the side the whole time. I couldn’t fully side with her because, in the end, it felt like she emotionally cheated on him. Still, I understand why the writers used this storyline since it became the driving force behind why Hong Siu Lung agreed to the mission. His desire to go back to before Chun Ching got married and change their fate gave his character emotional motivation.

Hong Siu Lung travels back to the Qin Dynasty years before Ying Ching ascends the throne. Knowing that history must remain intact for Hong Kong and even his own existence to survive, he makes it his mission to find Ying Ching and ensure he becomes emperor. One of the things I really liked about Hong Siu Lung was how modern his mindset was compared to everyone around him. Because he came from the future, he treated women with honor and respect, which naturally led to many women falling in love with him throughout the series. It was interesting seeing how well he understood and cared for the women he encountered, yet he still struggled to properly understand Chun Ching and what she truly wanted from him emotionally.

One of my favorite relationships in the drama was the dynamic between Hong Siu Lung and Chiu Poon. Beneath Chiu Poon’s arrogance and ambition, all he really wanted was love, acceptance, and affection from his parents, something he never truly received growing up. Hong Siu Lung became one of the few people who genuinely cared about him, and their friendship added a lot of heart to the series. Their bond made many of Chiu Poon’s later actions and emotional moments even more impactful.

The cast delivered amazing performances, especially Louis Koo as Hong Siu Lung. He carried the drama effortlessly with his charisma, humor, and emotional acting. Even with all the political schemes and serious moments, the drama never lost its fun atmosphere. The pacing stayed engaging, and the balance between romance, friendship, comedy, and tragedy was done extremely well.

Overall, A Step into the Past is one of TVB’s most memorable dramas for a reason. It’s entertaining from beginning to end, filled with lovable characters, emotional moments, and a unique storyline that still holds up today.

Thoughts about the last episode

I already wrote an overall review about the full series (You can find it as a review to "Taxi Driver"1), but I wanted to say some things about the finale of the third season in particular.
SPOILER
I read that some people were disappointed in how things were solved for the last case. The story of the last client is really tricky and intense, so seeing that everything get solved with unconventional ways and humor, might look confusing, but I'd like to share my point of view since I actually found it genius.
First of all, I'd like to compliment the production and all the cast and people who worked in this for their bravery. For the finale they chose to dedicate A LOT of minutes of the episode to a character that the public has never seen and they do it to narrate something really important and not so distant from a recent reality: the danger of the martial law
When I understood the direction that the episode was taking I really found it genius, I honestly had chills. All the actors did an amazing job and this case also showed us the deep bond between the characters even when they are separated and don't have a plan to follow from the beginning
About the resolution of the case, I actually think it's so beautiful because I saw in it a reference (even if of course really simplified) to what happened in South Korea in December 2024. I remember reading the news and as an outsider I was so impressed by the union that the citizens showed to defend their freedom.
At that time another thing that really moved me, was seeing how so many different people were gaining courage and strength from music. Seeing everyone standing in the cold, after a long day at work or school, fighting for their rights, waving their lighsticks, putting asides differences and fanwars and singing the same song, shook my heart.
So when I saw in the last episode, all those clients that we've met in previous cases come together to join Elements concert, I felt so moved by the reference. Music and artists can really be a light of hope during uncertain times
Also, talking about Elements case, we can see that Girls' Generation's songs get used more than once and have a deep meaning for the characters (and for example "Into the New World" by Girls' Generation was one of the main songs symbol of the protest)
I found it was a beautiful episode in honor of the korean citizens that keep on protecting their country and their freedom using modern solutions.
I also think the decision to take a lighter approach was to say goodbye to the series and the Taxi Driver family with a smile

I really loved this series, I'm so happy I decided to watch it and to do it till the end. I highly recommend it!

Watch for the characters, not the plot!

First, I will not talk about the recent controversy happening around this drama, since I am not Korean nor do I know about the intricacies of their history.

Secondly, I think the best thing about this drama are the characters, especially the main leads, and their relationship with each other. If you don’t like rom coms, or don’t like “cheesy and tropey” romance in general, then I fear this story isn’t for you.

Overall, I think the actors did a phenomenal job in portraying their characters. Of course, IU and Byeon Woo Seok are the stars of the show, but the secondary cast shouldn’t be ashamed about their performances either! I didn’t expect to like the duo of secretaries as much as I did honestly, and I even wish they had more screen time in the end. Furthermore, the humor was very spotted on and relied more on comedic timing than in cringe scenes, for my immense pleasure!

Like I said before, the characters are shining in this drama, the development of the romance is delightful (in my humble opinion) and the OST is very fitting too. On the other hand, it’s true that the plot is quite weak, even if I feel like they did the best they could. Because honestly, this is a romcom, and it doesn't pretend to be anything else: it isn’t anything revolutionary, and it contains quite a few tropes that we have already seen in other kdramas. But it still works! Especially because Hui Ju and Yi An felt like they were “real” (as real as they could get considering this is a kdrama about a fake marriage between an heiress and a regent in the 21st century). Each grew within a hostile environment, and they had to adapt in response to that: she’s arrogant and a little bitchy, he’s handsome and composed. But very soon, we realize that they have layers that need peeling so we can reach their inner parts. I feel like they both had in equal measures their moments of weaknesses in front of the other, and so they had to learn and to adapt, and they really became the other comfort in the end. I feel like the development of their relationship was quite natural and organic in this way and I really loved it. Of course, there are moments of cheesiness, of longing stares and shy kisses, but the actors did their best to make it all seem less fabricated and more spontaneous.

I also really loved the fact that they were equally in love with each other, I didn't feel like one was putting so much more effort into their relationship than the other. It felt quite mature in this aspect, and I think Hui Ju did a great job protecting and defending Yi An as best as she could. More importantly, I absolutely adored the "quiet" moments between them, when one was comforting the other and vice versa, away from prying eyes and beyond the riches and glamour. To me it seemed like they truly found solace in each other and it was a joy to witness, even more so than all the "grand" gestures they had to show the world to justify their union .

By contrast, I think the secondary characters could have been better developed. In this regard, the Queen mother, and the prime minister, were a little too “cartoonery” for my taste as they were obviously the main antagonists of this drama. But still the actors were great and again I feel like the script is the only one at fault here: taking the time to properly explore their respective motivations and desires would have been great, even if the viewer can still understand the general plot as it is. I don’t want to spoil too much but they really had the materials to become great and unique characters, for very different reasons. Truthfully, I hope the web novel will explore their characters a little bit more to add some needed lore behind their actions.

The overall plot wasn’t extraordinarily thrilling either, even if some scenes were quite tense and charged emotionally: obviously the viewer knows that our main characters aren’t seriously in danger and yet I was still very entertained until the very end, further proof of the actors’ amazing chemistry. I also agree with some people saying that the whole monarchy thing could have been developed a little further, but still I liked the main leads’ choices in the end, it made sense to me and I’m quite happy with the last episode (even though I feel like there are still some loose ends that weren’t explained, or maybe I missed some details). Again, it was maybe a little rushed concerning the main plot line, but it was nonetheless very satisfying regarding the characters and their relationships. So massive bonus point for that!

With that being said, I am very happy to have watched this kdrama despite its flaws. Give it a chance, you could fall in love with it too!

warning: a sarcastic review

I really wanted to like Wonderfools. The cast had all the ingredients for a memorable series, but what I got instead was an epic collapse in storytelling.
Watching this drama felt like raising a funny, charming stepchild only to discover eight episodes later that there was a dark psychotic personality hiding underneath the entire time. I kept trying to understand the writers’ intentions. Were we supposed to laugh, cry, feel suspense, then laugh again five minutes later? The show swings emotions around like a drunk DJ changing playlists at a wedding reception.

It wants to be quirky and dark at the same time, almost like Heath Ledger’s Joker wandered into a neighborhood sitcom. The difference is that Ledger’s Joker was brilliantly consistent. Wonderfools has the emotional stability of Batman after three espresso in shots and a nervous breakdown. It wants to Korea’s version of DC’s Suicide Squad.

Slapstick comedy only works when the tone commits to it. The Three Stooges knew exactly what they were. Here, the trio feels more like Dumb and Dumber… and their sister, Dumbest.

And somehow, in only eight episodes, the show still manages to drag while never fully developing anyone. Every character feels assembled from leftover K-drama tropes:
* the guilty grandma with a dark secret
* the handsome Clark Kent drowning in emotional confusion
* villains who are somehow more interesting than the heroes
* and of course, the obligatory cult-like church leader, because apparently Korean dramas now believe every church leader is one sermon away from becoming a supervillain.
* even squeezed a slow-motion scene using Radiohead’s “I’m a Creep…I’m a Weirdo” playing in the background.

But there is a bright side: it’s only eight episodes. And yea the good guys win. But you have to survive the uber-long final two episodes that looked like a scene from Batman vs Superman. This really is turning into a DC comics trope. And if the stars all align, there won’t be a season 2.

Just like Disney mishandled The Perfect Crown, Netflix seems equally determined to turn Korean dramas into disposable content. What happened to the days when dramas made you genuinely feel something long after the ending? Now it’s just emotional fast food, quickly consumed and forgotten before the next algorithm recommendation appears.

Emotional roller coasters , scary reality

The worthwhile part if you can tank thru this emotional rollercoaster of manipulation , lies , money , power, greed , control , toxicity, bad fatherhood, abuse of all sorts .

The good.
Acting , pairings of kinnporsche, kimchay, vegaspete . Just all the chemistry , ahem scenes , music ost are all amazing.

The bad - some unnecessary drama and lots of tissues and frustrations and anger wanting to just remove all this obstacle
the villians the deaths the lies and misunderstandings are never ending

Will i rewatch it? Ill google the moments. Ill watch the bts. I want the light hearted moments and just the passion and fire.

The hard part of why to not rewatch it?
I started pitying vegas n his situation. I wanted to get justice for those who died unfairly and got killed innocently in crossfire.

Shall not expose the villian. But really cant judge a book by its cover. Dont just listen to words. Watch the consistency in intention.

Its really so scary in real life.

Think the mafia part is only the guns and main / minor family hierachy .

The scenes and cinematography especially (you know what) the timing ,the position is just wow . The atmosphere the team created from angles and shooting and the acting itself is just wow.

Watch it yourself and enjoy. Just be prepared.. its not the typical ride.

Perception is reality even when it's a poem

Walking to the Moon is a 2022 short film. The actual film was under 8 minutes yet resonated long after. Seen through the eyes of an autistic boy, the world alternated between nightmare and poetry in motion.

Ning An lives with his mother who runs a hair salon. Her boyfriend is derogatory toward him as Ning An is autistic. During a distressing moment, Ning An flees the salon and runs to the ocean.

Much of what transpires in this short film is from Ning An’s perspective, how he sees and experiences the world. A mirror is a window to the moon and ocean. A walk in the surf becomes a dance to the music of the whales and gulls all to the rhythm of the waves. The moon calls to him at the door to the ocean, personified, in a gentle underwater ballet.

This film is ethereal, enigmatic, a song, a dance, and a reminder that everyone sees the world in a deeply personal manner. I suspect viewers will interpret this film that glides between “reality” and “illusion” differently.

“You keep calling me, so I came here.
At the entrance to the deep ocean.
While this moment, ocean and ocean,
I’m here to bring you back.”

What an amazing series ("Taxi Driver 1,2,3")

A month has already passed since I finished watching "Taxi Driver 3", but I kept thinking that I needed to write a review, this series really deserves it
Has been some years since I knew about the existence of this series and its success but reading the description of the plot and knowing that it was about revenge, I was afraid that it could be too violent and heavy, so I kept on postponing my watch, even if I was curious.
After watching some series and shows with the actor Lee Je Hoon, I understood that I couldn't ignore this show.
Now that I have finally watched it I can say that yes, of course it's not a light watch since it touches heavy issues and it does it really well (you could get really angry at some evil characters and feel even disgusted for how well everything is portrayed), but it also has funny and heart warming moments and it's definitely worth watching.
I also I think that it's not one of those series that romanticizes violence. As I said before it talks about revenge, so the "good guys" fight and punish too, but it's interesting to see the evolutions of the characters, how they grow and understand better what their ideals are.
While all of this happens, the relationship between the character becomes more clear and it's so natural. I loved all the actors and the main characters really felt like a family (I swear, maybe it's because I watched all 3 seasons one after the other and I spent a lot day in a row "with them", but I really miss them ahah)
The music contributes in creating the perfect atmosphere, at times if makes the adrenaline builds up, other times comfort you or makes you laugh
I saw some people criticize the funny moments, especially in the third series, but I personally appreciated them. There could be some moments that might look absurd, but I think they add a nice charm to the series and really makes you breath when things get too heavy.
I'm really happy and satisfied about this series
It could be a little disappointing to know that actress Esom (prosecutor Kang Hana) could not participate in season 2 and 3, but if you still haven't watched them, please don't make this stop you from continuing the series. I was a little sad too, but I really enjoyed the series from the beginning to the end

Second favorite drama of the year!

This drama got me laughing a lot, but also feeling a lot emotions like sadness and anger. Xiahou Dan is the true main character of the series. His character is what made the drama so good and so sad. He is one of those characters that deserve a happy ending the most.
All actors did great. Plot was also entertaining and great. Ending was PERFECT. There are NOT a lot of dramas with a satisfying ending.

Rewatch value is also extremely high. Very entertaining. And the music hits at the right spots.

My only complaints are Yu Wan Yin's outfits and makeup. Some outfits were phenomenal and some really flopped. They were too modern or did not match her body well, being overdone. Her makeup did not flattering on her either. Most of the time, she looked like she's got pink-eye. But these are small things I disliked, not enough for me to rate it lower.

Strong cast! ❤️??

Loved the female cast! Not a lot of dramas do strong female characters well and even if they're strong, they always need the male lead to save them. But all female characters had their own thoughts and solved their own problems.
Fan Changyu stayed true to her character and was strong and had her own thoughts, following through with what she wanted. I also loved how Xie Zheng respected her decisions and supported her in what she wanted.
Yu Qian Qian was a very interesting character who did not let others look down on her or mistreat her. I loved her toxic love story, in contrast to the main couple, even if her male co-star was VERY toxic 😂. I was into his look but not his character.
I didn't know how to feel about the grand princess in the beginning, but I came to love her character. She did her best to step out of the constraints that restricted her in order to follow her heart and help with the nation.

For the male cast, what more do I need to say besides 🥵🥵🥵. I was surprised even the uncle was that handsome 😂 Surprisingly, I really liked Sui Yuan Qing. His chemistry with Fan Changyu REALLY stood out to me too. I want them in a drama together 😂

The kids were PHENOMENOL. They acted out their roles so well and I loved their characters very much! I also want another drama about their characters lol.

Negatives:
What made me dock points was due to the ending. The build up was very good but I felt as if the final fight was very meh. Rebellion was very short and the fight was also short with all of them fighting each other at the same time. I also had a big pet peeve, FAN CHANGYU READ THE LETTER IN FRONT OF EVERYONE. Like... that made no sense 😭 She can't even read properly no matter who teaches her. There's no way she learned how to read properly with what little time they had even if the Xie Cheng taught her. That scene really took me out of the story.
Also, what's with the final part of the last episode? They could've just made a special episode out of those scenes instead of cutting the ending short. It felt rushed. I liked it a lot, but it should've been a special episode. I didn't feel satisfied with the ending.
The ending of a drama can make or break a drama for me, no matter how good it is. Sadly, this ending didn't satisfy me. However, I did enjoy the overall plot, guessing who was good or bad, and who was on the Marquis's side.

no stress quiet fluff with a serious topic

This is no stress quiet fluff with a serious topic.

The age regression stuff was quite worrying when seen in the trailer, but they managed to pull it off really well. I usually don’t like kids in shows but the three girls actually cracked me up all the time!

The show deals with deep and serious topics in a light and colourful atmosphere, which can sometimes be confusing, but is also calming.

It’s interesting to see mental issues being addressed, directly (with Sun) and also as a side topic (with Jee’s OCD). It also deals with the importance of asking for help and the hardship of taking care of loved ones,... So every aspect of mental health issue system is addressed EXCEPT, the professional circle, which is quickly addressed at the beginning but more as a gag than really real help. And that is imo something the show missed, although I do understand that choice in terms of storyline.

Unfortunately, the show still manage to fall into the infinite pit of too easily forgiven moms. And that’s an objective statement. For Plobmek’s, but especially for Sun’s mom, its disappointing to me that a show supposedly dealing seriously with mental health conditions falls back down into overused shortcuts.

Santa is doing great at portraying a 7yo without being cringe (which is a refreshing change from P10L, ngl). He is really outdoing himself performing the switches and Perth is really looking extra good despite the weird outfits they’ve been given. Which by the way really throws me off every time.

I’m not usually a big fan of horror shows or movies, but this series completely won me over. I just couldn’t take my eyes off the screen, and waiting for the next episode felt like torture. Even though I figured out part of the mystery pretty early on, the show managed to build this addictive tension between science and spirituality, blending crime investigation with dark rituals. That mix gave the story real depth and kept the mystery alive, while putting the characters face-to-face with dilemmas about science/faith, life/death, love/sacrifice.

Pavel and Pooh absolutely nailed their performances. They went way beyond what I expected, if that’s even possible. The forensic side of the plot could’ve been developed a bit better, but honestly, it didn’t take away from the overall impact. I’d highly recommend it.

Now that it’s finally available on Netflix here, I’m enjoying rewatching it all over again 😉
