"Thank you for the meal"

A Dangerous Woman was a bizarre break-up film by Lee Ok Seop. Clocking in at under 30 minutes, the film hit a lot of notes, both comedic and dramatic.

Bo Kyung has been in a relationship with her boyfriend Deok Woo for four years. Sexually attracted to another senior she decides to break up with Deok Woo. Not however, until he’s carried a couch to her apartment and later a standing fan across town for her. He’s wanting to get married and she’s wanting to have sex with Soo Jang. A last sexual encounter with Deok Woo goes unexpectedly and sets Bo Kyung into a tailspin.

Girl had every right to break up with her boyfriend and he had every right to ask why. I have to say, Bo Kyung is not someone I’d ever want to have to count on in an emergency. I’m guessing the choking scene was played for laughs, but I didn’t find it particularly funny and her selfish actions were beyond the pale. Deok Woo was obviously crazy about her and his final reaction was funny. Hurt and angry he managed to get his feelings across without actually being violent. I suspect Bo Kyung will discover that Soo Jang will not be so accommodating and to quote Spock from Star Trek, “Having is not so pleasing a thing after all as wanting. It is not logical, but it is often true.”

There were funny, frustrating, and heartbreaking moments in this short film, but I'm probably the wrong generation for A Dangerous Woman. As much as I support women choosing who they want to be with, I found Bo Kyung's actions annoying and cold. Deok Woo may come to the conclusion that he dodged a bullet. Sometimes a fan can’t be fixed.

A complete mess with a couple of beautiful vulnerable moments here and there

I wasn’t thrilled about the premise of the show, but I like TayNew so I decided to give it a chance. The first two episodes were a complete brainrot compilation - I don’t know how I forced myself through these. I am not saying this because of the abundance of sexual jokes, the exaggerated comedic acting style or the peculiar editing. The set up and the situations that resulted from it were unbelievable at best and disrespectful to my time as a viewer at worst. But I pushed through - and the backstory of Toto plus the vulnerability Kanit showed here and there kept me somewhat invested in the plot.

The good things first - I loved the serious side of Toto and Kanit’s relationship. I enjoyed their ability to communicate, their support for one another, their willingness to sacrifice themselves for each other (but also acknowledgement of how draining this sometimes is). I also liked the glimpses into Southern Thai culture. The class difference depicted was also an interesting aspect of the show, although I believe it could’ve been explored further. I was especially intrigued by Toto’s past and loved seeing his house and interactions with his sister (his scenes with his mom could've been, again, expanded upon. But props to him for not flat out forgiving her!). Toto's job was something new and refreshing, and all the scenes surrounding it were generally pleasant to watch.

But other than that, the drama is veeery mediocre. With many GMMTV productions, once you’re past episode 5 or 6 and the couple has confessed to each other, every conflict feels blown out of proportion and the momentum the show had gained in the beginning is suddenly lost. Episodes 7 through 10 all felt like filler, at no point did I wait impatiently for the next Friday when I would finally know how TotoKanit's story unfolds. I also couldn’t care less about the second couple - skipped all their scenes from a point onwards.

Let’s talk about the crimes I will not forgive - it’s 2026 and I still can’t believe we have Thai dramas centering queer love stories while seemingly also making jokes at the expense of queer people (and usually the most visible ones in the community as well). For instance, when Akki talks about his girlfriend cheating on him, he says he doesn’t trust her that the guy in the background of her calls is gay, because he apparently knows gay guys and they don’t “speak like that”. To me, that was a distasteful attempt at a joke, but I brushed it off, thinking his character is straight and this is meant to show his ignorance. Except that an episode or two later, I find out he will become part of the show’s second couple. I didn’t get the impression he included himself or Toto in his observation on gay accents/slang, so this moment had me raising my eyebrow.

Or in a gym scene, Toto gets hit on by a guy the viewer immediately reads as gay, who is coincidentally also pushy and can’t take rejection. We are supposed to be laughing at that and rooting for his friend who pretends to be his boyfriend to save him from the undesirable situation. But when it comes to our main couples - their queerness usually goes completely unmentioned. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't remember any of leads explicitly referring to themselves as gay/bi/queer, they only talk about their attraction to men, but this attraction also seems purely circumstantial, not something they identify with. I know that BL scripts tend to brush over lived experiences of queerness and the importance queer community, but that's all the more reason I dislike jokes like the ones I listed above in the shows I watch, especially if those shows are set in a "homophobia-free" world.

I mean, the joke is probably on me, since I did finish watching the show after all. But I felt unfortunately very let down by it in the end.

Some stories don't exist to entertain.

I enjoyed Climax, but at the same time, I didn't. And I don't mean that as a criticism.

This is not the kind of drama made for the general audience looking for an escape, a journey filled with hardships that eventually rewards the characters with a satisfying victory and a happy ending. Climax doesn't offer that comfort. If anything, it deliberately takes that expectation and tears it apart.

Its complexity isn't simply in its plot; it's in what it tries to say about people and life. Human beings are confusing, contradictory and deeply flawed. Situations that seem predictable can change in an instant, and just when you think someone has finally endured enough and is about to reach their goal, something else appears to drag them back down.

It's like walking barefoot along a path of thorns, bleeding your way forward, only to find another thorn waiting when you're finally close enough to see the destination.

And perhaps that's what makes Climax so uncomfortable.

The acting was phenomenal, but this isn't your typical love story. Beneath the relationships and circumstances is something much darker: an exploration of what humans are capable of, what they're incapable of, and the parts of themselves they eventually have to confront.

It doesn't romanticize the human experience. It shows the darkness, confusion, weakness, desire and consequences that people carry with them.

Most dramas give you a journey and a destination.

Climax gives you the journey — and then reminds you that reaching the destination was never guaranteed.

I can't say I loved it. I can't say I hated it either.

But I can say it stayed with me.

And perhaps that's exactly what it was meant to do.

Surprisingly good short drama

This is an enjoyable little show. It doesn’t try to be more than what it can fit in the allotted space, just tells a touching story of old ties lost and reclaimed, competing loyalties, wrongs to be righted, and random dancing that feels slightly out of place in a historical setting.

The ML is very endearing. He just wants his childhood friend back, and he’s on the shameless side. But his open honesty and sincerity towards the FL has a really innocent feel. The FL, on the other hand, is in a tough spot, but she’s also a reasonable person. She generally makes decisions and acts in ways I agree with.

Both leads are both reasonably smart and capable (as far as I can tell), but their abilities aren’t a focus of the show. It seems more about figuring out the situation and deciding where their loyalties lie. I actually cared about and felt invested in their relationship, which is something that many longer shows have been failing to achieve lately. They make reasonable points to each other that I can understand and relate to.

This show also does side characters pretty well, for its length. Naturally they aren’t that developed (just no time for it) but I still liked several of them. There is a second relationship which, like the main one, had me invested and rooting for it. The show is also full of strong female side characters, and- kind of strange but still nice- none of the other characters seem to blink an eye at women being generals.

On the villain side, this show has a pretty cohesive narrative without minor villains or side quests, it’s just the one plot and the main villains. I was not totally satisfied by the antagonists though. Their thinking had some logical flaws and they wouldn’t listen to reason. I also felt a bit torn about them, feeling kind of sorry, and hoping throughout the show that it would work out but realizing it probably wouldn't because then there would be no more story to tell.

The plot has a good pace and the right scope for its length. It has some decent spats of good humor, especially in the beginning and middle. Near the end, a jarring time jump seems to skip a lot of important events, but it’s not too bad.

True to its name, this show has a theme of dancing. The dancing is sometimes cute (like when the children do it), sometimes funny, and sometimes a little cringe. I believe the ML actor is a good dancer (look at his resume!), but it’s really hard to pull off a solo dance without music and while standing on a throne. The side male character’s dance is surprisingly good and made me laugh. The final duet dance is quite well done too, good choreography and execution.

For acting, I think in general it’s pretty good. This cast doesn’t seem to have that many titles to their names, so extra kudos if they really are new. The FL talks a bit too haltingly and dramatically, but if this really is her first show, I think she does a good job.

The production seems well-done for what obviously can’t be a huge budget. I could see the tape on the guys’ wigs, but at least the makeup isn’t too heavy. The cinematography is quite good and artistic, and I really like the music! The background music is really pretty.

In the end, this is a short show- it can’t achieve the depth that a longer show does, but it’s still a nice watch with decent emotional engagement. At 10-15 min x 24 episodes, a moderately skilled binger can finish this in one sitting. I didn’t even feel gross after I did it (which I do if the show is too hollow), but I didn’t totally love the ending either.

This is sort of a bittersweet ending. It works out for the ML and FL, ending with a dance and a kiss. The great revenge disaster is also handled with minimal damage.

But I was pretty upset about the second couple. I was really rooting for them. I wouldn’t say his death exactly follows from the plot, but I can see how it makes a better story- the way the FL needs to take some years to emotionally recover and let time heal her wounds (this hits really close to home for me right now and I do appreciate the message). But gosh, I continued to feel sad about that development for probably longer than it took me to watch the show.

Not as engaging as expected.

I love Park Eun Bin! And I was pleasantly surprised how much of a good, talented actor Yang Se Jong actually is !

And coming from a moderate intertest in anything "spooky", not necessarily horror. I thought this show would perfectly fit my taste ! And seeing Park Eun Bin in it would be even better ! But honestly, it's nowhere near as engaging as I expected it would. It was more of a tame romantic drama comedy that happens to have some paranormal elements around it. Nothing really enticing, or suspenseful. Just two people who end up closer together that happen to have a ghost or two around them.

Too bad, could've been even better in my opinion.

one of those dramas that gets darker the more you think about it

i honestly didn’t know what to expect going into mask girl, but this drama is WILD 😭 it starts off like it’s going to be a story about a woman struggling with her appearance and then just keeps getting darker and more messed up. every episode feels like it’s introducing another layer to the story.

the acting was definitely one of the strongest parts. the casting was SO good, especially because the different actresses playing the same character actually felt believable. nana was probably my favourite, but the whole cast did their job really well.

that being said, i wouldn’t say it was perfect. some parts felt rushed and there were moments where i was like “okay… what am i even watching 😭”. the story also gets pretty depressing, so definitely don’t go into this expecting a cute or comforting drama.

but honestly? that’s kinda what makes mask girl memorable. it’s disturbing, unpredictable and sometimes uncomfortable, but it actually has something to say about beauty, loneliness, obsession and how people treat each other. i can understand why it won’t be for everyone, but i definitely think it’s worth watching at least once.

Poorly executed

Overdo Review: Wasted Potential

This drama could have been explosive if it had been properly directed. The ingredients for a gripping story were already there: human trafficking, dark romance, mystery, and morally complex characters. It had the potential to be intense, thrilling, and emotionally captivating, but unfortunately, the execution fell flat.

The biggest issue is the lack of suspense and thrill. For a plot dealing with such dark and serious themes, the drama rarely creates a sense of urgency or tension. Instead, it feels overly focused on visuals, often prioritizing beautiful cinematography over meaningful storytelling. While the drama is undeniably visually appealing, aesthetics alone cannot carry a story that needs stronger emotional and narrative impact.

The pacing also feels disconnected from episode to episode, making it difficult to stay fully immersed. Some scenes feel abrupt, while others drag on without adding much to the overall story. The music score does not help either—it lacks the intensity needed to elevate the darker and more dramatic moments.

Perhaps the most disappointing part is that this feels like such a waste of Zhang Linghe and Wang Churan's potential. Both have the visuals and acting ability to bring a dark, intense romance to life, and their pairing had all the ingredients to be memorable. But with weak direction and an inconsistent execution, their talents feel underutilized.

Overall, Overdo had an exciting premise and a visually stunning cast, but poor direction, disconnected pacing, a lack of thrill, and an underwhelming music score turned what could have been an explosive dark romance into a frustrating missed opportunity.

Um bom suspense

Eu gostei bastante desse dorama! Comecei sem saber muito o que esperar e, quando percebi, já estava completamente envolvida na história. O suspense foi, sem dúvidas, o que mais me prendeu. A cada episódio eu desconfiava de alguém diferente e ficava tentando juntar as peças para descobrir quem realmente era o culpado.
Apesar de o motivo por trás de tudo ter ficado um pouco óbvio para mim, principalmente conforme a história avançava, ainda assim gostei muito da dinâmica e da forma como os acontecimentos foram sendo apresentados. Foi aquele tipo de dorama que me fazia pensar: “será que é isso mesmo?” e, no episódio seguinte, eu já estava desconfiando de outra pessoa.
Gostei de acompanhar a trama do começo ao fim e, para quem gosta de suspense, mistério e aquela sensação de não poder confiar 100% em ninguém, acho que vale a pena dar uma chance.
Agora, preciso fazer uma ressalva: o final poderia ter sido diferente! 😂 Eu estava esperando outra coisa e confesso que fiquei um pouco decepcionada com a forma como tudo terminou. Não chegou a estragar a experiência, porque no geral eu gostei bastante do dorama, mas queria um desfecho mais satisfatório. Por tudo que o casal passou o mínimo era eles terem um final feliz 🙂

The most I heard about this show was due to the controversial age gap between Ai Mi (17) and Hou Minghao (27), so I’ll address that first.

I do think 10 years is a lot when you’re 17. But I always try to see the characters and not the actors, and I also think they both did a good job portraying their roles. Ai Mi doesn’t look as young as some other 17-year-olds so the visual age gap is not outrageous, and she IS a young character. The show also avoids kiss scenes for this reason, but it is still a romance they need to sell, so there are plenty of gazes, hugs, cuddles, hand holding, etc. I don’t think the show is any worse for avoiding kisses.

For me personally, my knowledge of their creepy age gap was always sitting in the back of my mind, and I couldn’t help subconsciously cringing as I watched them try to sell the romance. I had to either believe it and get creeped out, or not believe it. I think somebody who is better immersed would probably not have this problem, so it’s a non-issue for some viewers. And for the rest of us, we may not agree with the casting decisions, but if we can look past it then there is still a decent story to enjoy.

The FL is kind-hearted and smart at engineering, but especially at the beginning, she is naïve and somewhat ditzy about the rest of life. Normally I like savvier FLs, but one unintended consequence for me of Ai Mi’s age is that the FL looks so young that I didn’t mind her innocence so much, or the way the ML is always watching out for her behind the scenes. I even found it cute. And then a big part of this show is about the FL growing up to become somebody who can stand up for herself and the people she cares about. Her growth and maturity are shown well, including the cost to her innocence.

The ML is a classic archetype of good guy with a bad rep, but I thought he’s done better than most. He really is a nice guy who gets little recognition for his good deeds, and I especially like how he tries to hang onto his friendship with the SML. He has all your classic ML traits (smart, good fighter, noble cause, etc) and the added drama of a ticking time bomb. Not that unique, but good use of tropes.

For supporting characters, some are interesting and some are fun, but I was never so attached to anyone as to wish they had more time. Maybe the emperor- minor character, but I liked how he sees through all the schemes but hates the whole game. The SML kept me on my toes. I found the show less stressful when I gave up on him early, but I was never quite sure which side of the fence he’d fall on. The villains are a mixed bag for me, some I hated and some I felt a little bad for.

There are also several strong female side characters. In general, this show does girl power well. The FL isn’t the only woman who has goals and dreams that she can fulfill through her own skills. There is also a conscious focus on women’s agency and freedom, which seems a popular theme for shows in the past year or two.

The pacing is in general decent, fast but not too choppy. The show skips a lot of details and procedure, like how people figure things out, which I discovered is ok with me. But I was confused by all the relationships and titles- the backstory is revealed satisfactorily but there are some aspects I never fully figured out (eg SML backstory). Everything is enough to get the gist though, and perhaps it’s for the better- details often don’t stand up to scrutiny anyways.

In the middle there is a patch where I think the pacing is too fast- big things happen abruptly, and the plot is pushed forward by not-quite-believable behavior. Closer to the ending, things also get rushed. I got some massive whiplash and confusion from schemes revealed in retrospect (plot twist style), along with various gaps and holes- some things underdeveloped, other things unexplained, other things glossed over. I think this show could have used more episodes, but honestly, I was kind of over it by then. Maybe less pontificating about the common people and use that time instead to plug plot holes

For the acting, I think people in general did a decent job and are believable. You just have to forget about the age gap. Peter Ho always gets so much praise, but actually I thought his dead-in-the-soul acting was too extreme. But he cried so well, it activated my mirror neurons and I actually started crying with him.

The fight choreography is pretty good. Some of the fights are very flashy (eg the first and last battles) with posing and stills. The CGI is... ok. Those fireballs were remarkably accurate, lol. In general I think the production is decent but not the best- the only part that stood out to me was the music. I like both the OST and the background music, which I thought set the tones really well. But sometimes the music cut back and forth between different songs too abruptly.

Overall it’s not a bad show. I liked the beginning better when I felt the ML and FL had a cute dynamic and there is a little humor. But then there is periodic heartache throughout and I ended up losing some interest, though it might have been self-protection to save me from feeling too upset.

It’s an ultimate happy ending for the two leads. After a time gap, the ML is saved by deus ex machina (I almost never complain about this). The SML ends up falling on the side of good, which is a relief. He’s lonely at the top, but we all know it’s a decision he made. The story ties up pretty well, even without a view of the future stretching forward. There is also a post-credit scene with a small plot twist.

The Eagle King is the final baddy. He does lots of bad things, but I also felt sorry for him because he’s so sincere to Lejun- he is too smart to fall for her crap, but still chooses to indulge her. Their story together seems to be missing many pieces, as if scenes were deleted, creating much confusion and an ultimate villain that feels underdeveloped. But from what I glimpsed of it, I still didn’t feel good about how it went down. I don’t like being sad for somebody I’m supposed to hate (though maybe it would have been easier if he were uglier, lol).

To be fair, though, he also doesn’t even seem that important to the story. The guy is smart but didn’t really stand out from any of the other villains along the way.

PERFECT FOR AWKWARD BLOODSHED

Damn the way it started was fabulous and I had no spoilers as well. It was fun to watch in a single day especially if you like to complete the whole drama in a go. Well coming to the plot it was simple like connecting the person who shares same eye - ball and the other guy is pschyo. What fascinated the more is the villain, damn in one of the add I saw him "Getting rejected after multiple purposes it was for some clothing advertisement. I didn't expect the same person to be shown violently damn he nailed it. Coming to hae-in, it was first time seeing some bold scenes. But made it look so creepy yet worth watching if you like bloodshed and all.

SOMETHING UNEXPECTED - A GOOD DRAMA

I enjoyed it more than I expected. The storyline is something I’ve never seen before. I like the plot twist we had in the last 2 episodes. Since the genre is Romcom, I can understand having the funny scenes. But it would be better, if they didn’t add such ones (esp silly ones) and focus on dark genre. It would be so lit, ig! However, if I look at from the another perspective, the Romcom with dark genre is very rare. So, I think they did it well, without ruining it. The Leads did so well. I don’t know why people don’t like FL. I see no negative points. I am so happy that I can see ML’s drama with a good plot again. Unexpectedly, I like BSG’s character. However, instead of using a typical troop of fleeing from the jail, they should just let him know about his son before he was sent to the jail. And the Cameo part, I love it. Overall, a good drama. Should not miss. 👍🏻

Wasted a story with potential

The story started good. Felt interesting at the beginning.

Let me list out the flaws I found
1. The amnesia thing was unnecessary

2. 2nd couple story left ambiguous

3. The story of Gong Ji Hye and why she has too much hatred for Gong Ji Hyeok - not shown clearly.

4. Go Da Rim went to Jeju in the final episode to find her sister - did she had a talk with her or not? not shown.

5. Relationship between Mr. Kang and Lee Go Eun not shown.

6. Might have shown some backstory of Gong Ji Hyeok and Yu Tae Young.
The acting was so good because of the talented actors. Go Da Rim nailed her character.

Progressive messaging in an Historical Setting

The strength of this series lies in its progressive messaging: partnerships are mutually supportive, traditional gender roles are challenged, and female characters actively take control of their lives. These themes reflect refreshingly modern values and aspirations.

However, the pacing is questionable. As this epic, slow-moving narrative dragged on, I became far less engaged. I am genuinely baffled by its 9.6 rating on Viki!

The main cast delivers solid, professional performances and is visually attractive, while the voice actors are completely plausible. I also loved hearing musical threads of Tristan and Isolde woven into the background during tragic scenes.
