Good Fathers Absent (the drama wouldn't have happened, otherwise)

A reckless, indulged son of wealth and position took offense at Liu Yu Ru, the unfavored daughter of a businessman, and bullied her in thoughtless prank, which caused misunderstandings that led to their engagement and marriage. On their marriage night, he made his feelings known and promised her a divorce as soon as it was practical. The playboy and the puppet had to learn to work together to survive the impending chaos the country found itself embroiled in.

The character growth of both leads was enjoyable to watch: silly boy into a meticulous, thoughtful man and timid, careful girl into a capable, competent woman. I especially enjoyed watching their relationship grow from reluctant allies to friends and to lovers. ML learned his wife wasn't a manipulative schemer but a powerless pawn who had been forced to her way of life in order to survive. FL learned her childish husband was decent and intelligent, but his pampered upbringing had left him few aspirations with no one having expectations of him. Their relationship was the highlight of this drama. Once they were on the same page, they never deviated; they always believed in one another, they had no nonsensical misunderstandings, and they were a true partnership.

Once the ML was sent away to work on the dam, the story suffered. The drama needed the leads to be together to work well and keep my interest. The story shone brightest when it was involved with regular townspeople and the main couple; it dimmed dramatically as soon as the stage was shifted to the palace and court issues and away from our one true pair.

As an "historical" drama, the writers indulged heavily in intellectual fallacies, assigning today's morality and culture to the past. An Emperor with a troublesome dowager Empress and princess should have quickly found a solution to dealing with them (Empress banished to the Cold Palace; princess married to a far land). As for women in large businesses and as generals, those would have been exceedingly rare, also. However, I'm sometimes relieved to have the past sanitized for me: it was personally shocking to see a cockfight depicted.

Miscellaneous meanderings: I wonder what happened to that smart beggar boy who kept an eye on the streets for the ML. What happened to FL's stepmother, youngest stepsister, and little stepbrother? And, wow, in that scene of moving rocks at the dam, skinny Bai Jing Ting had great arms. Until I read the credits, I didn't realize the charismatic villain was Liu Xue Yi, the bald monk of The Blood of Youth. What range he has as an actor!

Subjective Gut Rating: 8.25

“Love for You” is quite a journey. For most of the drama, I wasn’t quite sure if I would end up praising it more or criticizing it more. In 32 episodes, it covers quite a wide range of topics - family, found-family, romance, healing, friends, crime and corruption. The pacing is not bad and the acting is strong.


What I Like:

1. Zhang Jing Yi - Without a doubt, one of this drama’s strengths is the acting by Zhang Jing Yi and Song Wei Long. I’ve always been a fan of Zhang Jing Yi and have liked most of her dramas. She’s really a young, bright star. She’s so believable as a sweet and innocent high schooler, who has gone through so much to find a place to call home. Then she grows up to be this independent, stubborn, sassy and courageous young lady. You can see traces of the young girl in her, but she has blossomed into quite a woman. Zhang Jing Yi was amazing from start to finish.

2. Song Wei Long - I think this is Song Wei Long’s best performance yet. Instead of being the Perfect Mr. Green Flag, his character requires him to have both a quiet and explosive personality. For the most part, his character is a man of few words, thus needing him to have expressive yet subtle facial expressions. When anger or emergency strike, he has to jump right in. His fight scenes are explosive and hard-hitting, which I was not surprised as he has a martial arts background and I’ve witnessed that in “The Seven Relics of Ill Omen”. I think playing along side Zhang Jing Yi definitely helps.

3. Chemistry - The chemistry between Song Wei Long and Zhang Jing Yi elevates the relationship development. They were each other’s family when they had no one. The bond created was tight and you can see how caring they are for each other. It doesn’t matter if they are trying to protect each other, tease each other, yelling at each other, or intentionally trying to hurt someone, you believe in all those emotions. I laugh, cry, grin and giggle along with them. The kisses are great, too! The leads are not shy to initiate skinship, nor profess how they feel for each other.

4. Main Romance - For the most part, I am going to put the romance in the “Like” section. I will leave my minor criticism in the other section. Their journey from being ‘enemies’ to family, to being strangers, and then going through all the ups and downs….all the way to the very last episode, is beautiful to witness. The emotions are not black and white. All the things they say to hurt each other, and all the numerous “I Love You’s” are heartfelt and meaningful. I am also super happy that the past timeline did not last forever. I believe they go back to the ‘present-day’ timeline in ep 11.

5. Supporting Characters - It has a strong supporting cast. From the friends, to the love interests, the hated parents and supportive uncle and auntie, no one drags down the quality of the drama. The love square is not bad, either. Cen Ye and Tu Li have genuine interests and do like and are for the leads. I also like the friend groups. The drama does not intentionally give us bromance or sismance storylines. Instead, I feel their friendship and friend groups are natural. I love the bro trio, because they act like regular bros.

6. Visuals/Production - Thank goodness for natural makeup for the actors, especially Song Wei Long. For once his face is not covered by white cakey foundable, and he actually looks tanned. Zhang Jing Yi also has a very natural look when she’s a teenager (and she’s beautiful) and with more natural and mature makeup during the business scenes. The two of them look so good together. There’s no overly bright light when someone kisses, nor annoying loud music blasting that I couldn’t hear the lines. Everyone looks the part and dresses the part.

7. OST - There are quite a few songs and I like them all. They might just be a tad repetitive, but the quality of the songs are good. But I do have to say Zhang Jing Yi might not have the best vocals .. LOL.



What I Have Mixed Feelings or Don’t Like

1. Dragged out Push-and-Pull: As much as I love the main romance and their relationship, my biggest complaint is how Miao Jing (FL) treated Chen Yi when she returned home. I understand she was hurt when she was forced to leave. I also found it fun when she stormed back home, being all sassy and proud. It was fun to see her tease Chen Yi and make him pay. However, this teasing, baiting, stringing him along lasted for way too many episodes. I was especially mad and disappointed with her continued actions when she found out Chen Yi had a really difficult time and is still trying to recover from his time spent in a foreign country. If she didn’t know, that’s one thing. But now that she found out, and claimed that she wanted to be supportive and help him recover, she still played with his emotions. She’s still trying to make him jealous, make him crawl back to her and continue with her wishy-washy, push-and-pull attitude. It doesn’t help that Chen Yi is so smitten and so willing to give up everything for her. He loses all dignity and pride when it comes to her. It wasn’t fun as a viewer to see this going on for so long.

2. Minor Plot Holes: Well, that part about Chen Yi’s recovery seems to have dropped. So, is he all better now? There’s some weird editing with actors walking right in front of the camera, therefore, creating a one-second black screen. Oh, there’s a scene where Tu Li called out to Cen Ye. I thought they were scheming but then nothing happened. Do they know each other?

3. FL’s Mom: We have seen enough parents in C-dramas these days where the mother abandons her child and tries to latch on to a man for a better life. Of course, the kids would be a distraction and an obstacle, so they might be left behind. I just watched the same story in “Never-ending Summer”. Moreover, the way the plot continues to develop for Miao Jing’s mother is too predictable. There is no creativity to how she will end.

4. Crime/Business: I have very mixed feelings about the crime investigation, auditors, corruption and illegal activities. I can’t say they are unimportant because they are. Everything is interconnected and interdependent. They provide the backdrop of Chen Yi’s past experience and trauma. Without these issues, the leads would never be apart. Without them being apart, they would never grow independent as a person, before knowing how they could not live without each other. The drama gives you breadcrumbs along the way but the final review of what really happened didn’t come until the very end. I think I might like the flow better if we found out exactly what happened to Chen Yi sooner rather than later. But, I am also not 100% sure about that.


After finishing “Love For You”, I can finally say that I did enjoy it. Aside from my critique of the push-and-pull, the pacing is good. The acting and the chemistry of Song Wei Long and Zhang Jing Yi are the strengths of this drama. There’s enough happening to keep me interested, though not all plotlines are unique. In fact, some are quite predictable. I strongly recommend this if you are fans of this genre and fans of leads. Although there are some cute moments, this is not a fluffy romantic comedy at all.

For me, this was an absolutely amazing drama. I got so invested in it that I couldn’t tear myself away from the screen. I had to know what would happen next and, finally, see the revenge unfold. So much happened here, and every episode had something interesting going on that kept me from ever getting bored. At the same time, nothing felt unnecessarily dragged out, and I was actually surprised by how quickly some things were revealed or happened. Of course, the sheer number of plotlines meant that some things weren’t developed as fully as they could have been.

The relationship between the main couple - Han I Ju & Seo Do Guk - was absolutely beautiful to watch. It was wonderful seeing Do Guk become a safe haven for her. Being with him, she gradually learned what trust, safety, genuine happiness, and love actually meant. They had such a healthy relationship, in which they both helped heal each other and provided one another with tremendous support. There were no unnecessary arguments between them, and they always faced their problems together. Their relationship genuinely melted my heart. On top of that, they had incredible chemistry - both emotionally and in terms of the HOT aspect. The only downside might be that, with everything else happening in the drama, I didn’t get enough time to fully enjoy them as a couple. But in a way, that feeling of wanting more is compensated for by the fact that we didn’t get all those unnecessary dramas and breakups between them.

Staying on the subject of the two of them, I also think Seo Do Guk’s panic attacks were somewhat glossed over. He got over his anxiety very quickly thanks to love, which has very little to do with how things work in real life, and I think continuing this storyline could have been much more interesting.

I also want to pause for a moment on Han I Ju herself, because the script occasionally made her look like an stupid. For example, she overheard her stepmother talking to her grandfather in the closet, saying that they were going to choose the older brother, and then she was completely shocked when he brought her younger sister home and announced it to the family. When her sister said, “Then I’m the fake [daughter],” yet despite being confused, Han I Ju didn’t think about it or investigate it even a little. Well, I guess a tiny part of that naive and blind girl from her “previous life” was still left in her . On top of that, she had a serious delayed reaction whenever something bad was happening - for example, with the car that could have run her over about twice before she even reacted. And just so it doesn’t sound like I’m only pointing out her flaws, Seo Do Guk was also an stupid for not admitting that he had traveled back in time too (although then we wouldn’t have gotten that brilliantly acted scene). I’m also still wondering whether he ever told Han I Ju that her stepmother wanted Jo Dong Su to k*ll her. He knew about it, yet Han I Ju was completely shocked at the police station when she heard it.

Now I’ll move on to Han I Ju’s f*cked-up family. Honestly, I find it difficult to put everything they did to her into words. They were a family of monsters who took pleasure in abusing a child. It was horrible to watch and it broke my heart repeatedly, but watching her get revenge on every single one of them was delicious. Starting with her stepmother (Lee Jeong Hye), who clearly had something seriously wrong with her. I watched with immense satisfaction as she was thrown out of the house, and then as she rotted away alone behind bars, with even her own f*cked-up daughter completely cutting her out of her life. Absolute revenge. The only thing I regret is that the drama never followed up on the fact that she tried to poison her stepdaughter and was also slowly poisoning her husband. But what matters most is that she’s wasting away in prison. She can be glad that I Ju listened to her and chose not to be nice :D. When it comes to her “younger half-sister” (Han Yu Ra), I initially had a different attitude toward her. I hoped that maybe she would change and eventually understand what she had done. I was slightly naive, but I thought her personality was largely the result of being raised by her mother and “father,” and that they were responsible for the person she had become. And maybe that was true to some extent, but she turned out to be just as f*cked up as her mother. (Although, honestly, what else could we expect? You can’t escape your genes, and her biological father was just like them.) So you have no idea how happy I was when she ended up with nothing, pregnant with the child of poor b*stard. The biggest downside for me here was that it was never explicitly explained that she wasn’t Han Jin Ung’s biological daughter. I do keep in mind that, at the end, she didn’t go back to her “father” - she went to Yoo Se Hyeok’s house and then to her mother to ask for money - which makes me think that perhaps they eventually found out she wasn’t his biological daughter and cut her off. At least that’s how I interpret it, but I still think it should have been explicitly explained. I also consider her father (Han Jin Ung) part of this side of the family. In my opinion, he was largely responsible for what happened, and there is absolutely no excuse for him. I think he got off far too easily, considering that for years he had no problem allowing her to be abused in his own home. The fact that he didn’t know she was his biological daughter changes absolutely nothing.

Moving on to the better part of her family, I genuinely grew to like her grandfather (Han Un Jae). Of course, he had plenty to answer for as well, since he allowed what was happening to continue for years, but he was the only member of the family who genuinely showed guilt, remorse, and actual change. He fully took I Ju’s side and helped her. A huge part of the revenge succeeding was thanks to him, so I personally forgave him completely. I was even happier when I Ju’s biological mother (Lee Ji Won) entered her life, because she finally got the maternal love she deserved. Especially since her mother had also been a victim of the whole situation. So while I understood I Ju’s anger over the fact that her mother didn’t immediately reveal the truth to her, I also understood her mother’s side.

Naturally, we have to move on to Seo Do Guk’s family. It was incredibly comforting to see how wonderfully his family treated I Ju and gave her the love she had never received at home. The biggest sigma was definitely his mother (Cha Yeon Hwa) - I absolutely adored this woman. The love and support she gave both her son and I Ju were wonderful. I watched with immense satisfaction as she shut Lee Jeong Hye down with her comebacks. His sister (Seo Do Na), Do Guk’s husband/secretary (Byeon Jae Ho), and I Ju’s cousin/friend (Ah Su Jin) were equally wonderful. Their warm, friendly relationship was such a pleasure to watch. Seeing them spend time together and fight alongside one another genuinely made me smile. My biggest issue here was his grandmother (Lee Tae Ja), because overall she was also one of the positive characters. She treated I Ju well too. But she earned a huge negative point from me that I could never completely forget. For years, the entire family allowed his disabled brother to play the victim, constantly mentioning the accident between the lines. And when evidence finally surfaced showing what had actually happened and that Seo Do Guk had been the victim, his grandmother’s influence led them to completely ignore it, claiming that it wasn’t important. Come the f*ck on. Did Seo Do Guk’s suffering all those years mean nothing? His mental health problems? His panic attacks?

And finally, the cherry on top of this family is his as*hole brother (Seo Jeong Uk), who became my most hated character. I swear, just looking at his face gave me a fever. You have no idea how incredibly satisfying it was when he finally learned that it was his mother who never wanted him and abandoned both him and his father - not the other way around. Now he can rot in prison knowing that he completely ruined his own life because of his delusion. A little tear of happiness comes to my eye.

I also have to talk about Yoo Se Hyeok. Another character whose ending gave me enormous satisfaction. A guy who was a complete as*hole and loser ended up with Han Yu Ra pregnant with his child. They’ll have to spend the rest of their lives stuck with each other, being poor and having no one close to them. The same goes for his materialistic mother and sister. Karma is beautiful.

I’ll end my rambling with a positive character - Kim Jae Won. Pretty early on, I had a feeling that he was going to be a character I would like, and that feeling didn’t let me down. You have to give him credit for being a sigma, because he absolutely destroyed Lee Jeong Hye, who never expected him to have been against her from the very beginning. His motivation was also the only one I didn’t figure out. It remained the biggest mystery to me throughout the entire drama. I had so many theories, but not a single one turned out to be correct.

Honestly, it wasn’t my piece of cake. I’ve seen the same plot many times and when the story itself isn’t developed much beyond that it stays pretty simple and a bit boring. I liked the actors and their acting but I think the characters could have been developed better especially Duang. His character felt too clingy, which became a bit overdone and exhausting to watch. I also think Duang would have been more interesting if the series had explored more of his own personal goals interests hobbies and qualities instead of having so much of his character revolve around Qin.

Came for the plot, stayed for the trainwreck (and the spice).

Proof that forgiving a toxic rapist in a dark BL fantasy is somehow more believable to watch than forgiving a cheating partner who lies to your face. Watch it strictly for the Bootleg Vegas and Peter and the heavy spice - ignore the main plot completely.

​The Good: High spice, solid physical chemistry, and non-con/bondage dynamics that actually deliver if you're looking for dark romance. The side couple stole the entire show - they are pure "Temu VegasPete," but their toxic trajectory was the only reason to finish this.

​The Bad: The main storyline is infuriating. The show expects us to accept full-on infidelity and a rushed forgiveness arc like it’s no big deal. The writing, logic, and production values completely break down, and that mid-credits cliffhanger showed a lot of unearned confidence for a Season 2.

This series is everything i didn't want.

I didn't have high expectations for the series (and the novel).
Since it's Omegaverse, I would have been grateful for just the "bare minimum" a simple, cliché story would have been fine but no, there isn't really a story here at all. Absolutely nothing happens. The serie explains the mechanics of the Omegaverse, but it lacks a plot, it essentially a story of their days at home or at the café.

Nakhun is a character who doesn't change; in fact, he is getting worse with every episode. He doesn't apologize for what he’s done, nor does he care about Phatsa; he just works, eats, gives orders, spends money on him, and repeats the routine the next day. He wants a baby, yet he barely has a relationship with Phatsa. Phatsa is angry, but he doesn't ask him why or how he can help; instead, he gives him a few affectionate strokes and tells him to come home with him. He does absolutely nothing to try to get to know Phatsa better! his tastes, his hobbies, his friends, or his family... absolutely nothing. He bit him and takes responsibility only for that; he does nothing beyond that, and if he does act, it is solely due to the effects the bite has on both him and Phatsa. Sure, he is affectionate and seems to care about him, but he does absolutely nothing to show it. He is a shallow, one-dimensional character.

Phatsa is completely irresponsible; that might have been okay at the start, but as the story progresses, he just lets things slide, and it makes less and less sense. Everyone tells him what to do, but never why, and he accepts it all without thinking too much about it. The only points in his favor are his initiative: he gets bitten and goes to live with Nakhun; he is unable to work so he agrees to help out around the house, he wants to see his friends but is forced to return home early. He's trying but with all the other characters that stand in his way, there isn't much he can actually decide to do.

The rest of the family is just flat characters lacking depth; they are poorly written characters who show no growth or initiative.

The only "plot elements" in this story involve the father trying to figure out who the pure omega is, and the attacks on the family, yet even these aren't explored properly.

It’s true that i didn't have high expectations, but this doesn't even meet the bare minimum.

It’s a one-time watch for me, but an enjoyable one.

The drama is good and fun to watch. But when you dig into it, it shows why age-gap relationships realistically don't work. He has a hard time with childish and "unreasonable" things that the FL did because she is young. One line really brings this home: he asks her "to be logical," but in her reality she was acting logically because when you are 21, your ideas and feelings are very different, and much more intense, from when you are 25, much less 36, like the ML. Other than that, it is a good drama with a realistic yet admirable love story.

Zhao Lusi is such a star for a reason, and when I go back and watch her older dramas, like this one, for the first time, I understand how she became the star she is.

It’s a one-time watch for me, but an enjoyable one.

Everything good exept the romanec (if you leave out most of the scenes it's good) :)))

Okay so I really liked the serious scenes and the plot that wasn't romance. The deep dive into Baek Sang-il backstory in the last episodes was so interesting and that scene where he held Kang Tae-ha for the first time broke my heart. ( He is still not a good person but I can't help but wonder what would have happend if he decided differently back then.) As for the Romance it was too much for me and it really didn't go well with the rest of the plot. Like you'd have a cute scene between the Leads and then CUT brutal torture or something. The mood shifted too fast and drastically if you know what I mean.
As for the characters this whole Taffy Village was a bit too wholesome and soft for my taste. At some point it got too clichee. What I'm really sad about is the character development of the leads. In the Beginning both of them were super badass and then in the ending they were constantly staring at each other with puppy eyes. I was actually excited to see Jung Hae-in in a role that wasn't all sunshine and rainbows like love next door but in the end it just got ridiculous. And I don't mean their acting, that was pretty good but the script was just really not that good. The FL was supposed to be some hotshot prosecutor but in the end she was just annoying and clingy.

The Almost Perfect Rom-Com Show

I have a lot of great words for this show. Some bad. I've rewatched it in full probably three times, but rewatched parts/certain stories more. I love how even though we had three 'set' story lines, we still saw all three couples evenly throughout the whole series. Let me get down and dirty with this. I broke them into three stories and graded each one. And more spoilers for story 2 and 3, but I tried to keep it vague.

Story 1: ArcArm (ForceBook) - 9/10
A perfect story to 'start' us on. Not a lot of angst, but it had enough to ease watchers into it. Had great comedic timing and the friend group was hilarious. Book really dove into his character and was hilarious. I laughed a lot at his lines. Maybe a bit of a stretch, but Force could've shown a biiit more facial emotion in some scenes, but I found it fitting for his character. And once we got more into the series, the character changed to be more relaxed, and we saw more emotion, so I didn't really mind. Though his 'jealousy' arc was hilarious and he pulled that part off very well.

I'd say the only big downside was the side couple, PondSand. This might be more my opinion, but I feel like I couldn't connect with Marc's emotions at all while Poon was doing all the hard work for both of them. They seemed unbalanced in their scenes, and their time together seemed either too rushed or too slow. (I did watch this before their separation as a pairing, but once they announced it, I was not surprised. They just didn't seem to connect well in my opinion.) I do appreciate that it gave us a break from the main couple and also provided more comedy for JJ. Having JJ as Po was just *chef's kiss* perfection! He made me laugh so much.


Story 2: YothaGun (PerthSanta) - 6/10
So, for starters, this was their first story as a pair. I could not tell for the life of me! Honestly, GMMTV did wonders adding Santa in the mix because I could not see anyone else be Gun. He did an amazing job. That being said, I do not like how their story ended. I feel like the slow burn was really good. We saw Yotha slowly understand his feelings. But I have a major bone to pick with this couple. First, they sped through Gun's trauma way too fast. I feel like if they had better wording, I'd give it a pass. But you cannot be cured of trauma in one day... If they said something like 'it helped me to (major spoiler here), and I think it will help me further on,' I would feel way better. Also, "I don't know" is NOT a yes!. That is not consent! Major points deducted because of this!
- Though as the story progresses, I do find it adorable how much Yotha changed with his love for Gun. So, I added some points for cuteness -

Now, the side couple, KlaoWarich. Their story had the same issue as story one, where there just didn't seem to be enough time for them. But they did pretty well with the timing. The back and forth was a bit repetitive, but I also understand. AouBoom are always a given for side couples because they nail their chemistry. (can't wait for them to show what they can do in their first main pairing show!) That being said, having the end of the series was a bit of a stretch in my opinion. The flip of character seemed a stretch too. Though I can understand some people do change like that (*cough*Yotha*cough*), so it is a bit forgivable. I'd take their side story over PondSand.


Story 3: FaifaWine (JuniorMark) - 10/10
I will not lie, this is my favorite story. My reason? Did you WATCH the series?! They were dating since story one, and they were just too blind to see. This was their second paired series, so I could tell these two felt more comfortable with each other. Junior did amazing as Faifa. I could write a whole essay about his acting. The constant tiredness and disappointment he showed was so heartbreaking. Mark improved since his role in Cherry Magic, but still had a scene here or there that was off, but very minor. Broken souls mending together in love. Very well done story. I rewatch their story the most because of how giddy it makes me feel.

Their 'side couples' were both the previous couples. I thought that was a cute way to keep watchers informed about how the previous pairings were doing, as well as keeping the timeline feel real. Having Arc be away made way for Arm to have a reason to ask Wine to come to the beach. Showing the progression of YothaGun with Faifa (like them doing the star show? or whatever it was called) and having 'brotherly' love shown. Only complaint was that we had a little bit too much catching up in one of the episodes. I think one half of an episode was us catching up with the two couples and also PondSand randomly. So it broke us away from FaifaWine and then threw us right back in. Buuuut I do like that they stayed consistent with the timeline so that it felt like actual time passed.

- Also, some minor points were taken off because Yotha and Fai's mom's story did not make any sense to me but was needed for story 3 more than story 2 -
