Just like season 1, season 2 never lives up to its potential

In my review for season 1, I talked about how the show had a really compelling premise that was let down by lackluster character development, and sadly, that trend continues in season 2. For starters, the time jump to the modern day removed the most compelling part of season 1 - the theme of maintaining one's humanity while fighting against oppressors whose weapon of choice is dehumanization. The backdrop of Japanese-occupied Korea was one of the best (and honestly only) things I enjoyed about the first season and without that context, this turns into a more run-of-the-mill revenge story with a supernatural bent.

The story itself is extremely muddled. With only 7 episodes, it needed much tighter writing but instead we got a mish mash of private investigators, well-meaning but mostly useless cops, memory loss, long-lost lovers, a shady conglomerate conducting illegal human trials, superpowered ninjas (??), hideous tentacle monsters, and numerous double crosses and betrayals. Sprinkled throughout are some genuinely interesting points about justice and human connection, and in the last episode, Chae-Ok has a really gut-wrenching line where she says she's not afraid of death but of living forever alone without being able to die and I wish we'd gotten this insight about her character earlier in season and I wish we'd gotten it via showing instead of just telling.

On that note, character development is practically nonexistent, which is a shame because, again, the potential is there. Lady Maeda has consistently been one of the most interesting characters on this show but she was criminally underutilized here. She and Chae-Ok could've been incredible foils for each other as they both keenly understood the loneliness of the decades they endured after the events at Onseong Hospital but they only have 1 brief scene together. The Kuroko captain guy was also fascinating - he clearly had his own agenda in trying to save his girlfriend but again, none of that is revealed until the very last episode and then nothing really happens with any of that? Lee Moo Saeng is very good at playing a sociopath though, love that guy. Seung-Jo is another character whose shifting loyalties made him a wild card and I wanted to see more of his friendship with Tae-Sang/Ho-Jae. His struggle to embrace his inner monster vs following in his hyung's footsteps and being a good person was so compelling, which made his choice in the post-credits scene to basically unleash the naijin on the entire population of Korea all the more disappointing. Boo hiss, I was rooting for you, Seung-Jo! I don't even know what to say about Tae-Sang/Ho-Jae. With his superpowers, he seemed less like an actual character and more like a plot device this season. Again, Park Seo Joon did his best but it says a lot that my favorite scenes of his were the flashbacks to the 1940s, especially when we got to see the old House of Golden Treasure crew again. Chae-Ok, my sweet girl, how this show failed you. I loved seeing her continue her work of finding missing people in the first episode, but after that, it seemed her only purpose in the story was to get injured and be held hostage to trap Tae-Sang. The love story did not move me in season 1 and it moved me even less this time around but they deserved a happy ending so I'm glad they got it.

Will there be a season 3? I sure hope not and I will definitely not be watching if there is one. After watching these 7 episodes, season 2 doesn't even seem like it was really necessary as it just re-hashed many of the same plot points from season 1. To be honest, I think the multi-season format is kind of ruining kdramas but that's a rant for another time. This show would've been better off ending with one of the flashbacks we saw this season, with Tae-Sang and the rest of the House of Golden Treasure crew celebrating Korea's independence while Chae-Ok watches from afar. In the midst of the celebration, he notices her, and instead of walking away, she approaches him, and they get the future they deserved.

A must watch drama

GUYS YOU DEFINITELY NEED TO WATCH THIS DRAMA IT'S SO GOOD. It has become one of my absolute favorite chinese dramas. Everything from plot to cast, OST and all are perfect. No toxic friends, no toxic couples. The cast is too good and have good chemistry with each other, friendship is portrayed really well too. Normally in dramas, I don't watch every scene and fast forward some but in this one , even the most side characters are fun to watch lol. I have this dislike to second leads in order dramas, but here Yang is too cute and his scenes with Tong Yao are fun to watch as well. Tong Yao and Lu Si Cheng are adorable, have greatest chemistry, no cringe-worthy scenes or script (hope to see them working in another drama again)
I need season 2 but I know it's too late already

Completely forgot that I watched this on a long haul flight, but here I go. And I have to agree with other users that this feels a lot closer to a Hollywood production as compared to South Korea. A movie about connection, what it means to be soulmate and if such a concept exists if one person is unwilling to accept this. More of a hard-hitting watch, the vibe that I was getting from it made me feel ashamed and embarrassed for the lead female character. Many other themes relate to identity, what it's like being a 1st generation Korean-American immigrant, which is close to me as my husband is also Korean-American. I believe viewers can find something relatable to draw from this movie nevertheless. But did this leave me in awe - I can't say so. It felt like an average mature movie to me, something I've seen in Korea before.

Make sure to stay and watch after the end credits!

This was even better than the first movie! I watched the first movie 6 months ago once I heard about this project and say that Jung Hae In would be in it. I liked the first one but this one was even better! It was done by the same director but it felt very different from what I remember from the first one. The colors were super well done (I think that's cinematography or photography's job but I don't know for sure), and the sound track was great! I will say though, that it felt like it wasn't directed by the same person but maybe there style has changed over the past nine years. The story was a little hard to follow at times but I think that was because I watched in a theater so I couldn't rewind 10 seconds to reread the subtitles. Overall I totally recommend watching this movie if it is showing near you, it is action packed and keeps you at the edge of your seat wanting to know what will happen next.

As for the post credit scene I feel like it could potentially set up for another movie which I wouldn't complain about, but it also feels complete as is. I would love to see move of the Seo Do Cheol character but we will just have to wait and see :)

I also wanted to note that you don't need to see the prequel, but it does add to the watching experience, so I would recommend it.

It could have been done much better.

The thing I found most annoying is the villain Seo Jong-gil. He magically happens to spawn whenever someone is talking. He was everywhere. He was a master-class eavesdropper. I mean how is that even possible? He knows and understands things very very fast.
Meanwhile, the ML can't even hide the kill switch. Who the hell hides the thing that can kill them, in plain sight, just like that? He said he was a very intelligent robot but couldn't even hide something that was really important.
Nothing much happens to Seo Jong-gil. After all that he did, it feels that he still got the last laugh. He was not even hit, not a single drop of blood. At least his limbs should have been broken. Even till the very end he was winning. He never even faced any public humiliation.
The last episodes were definitely stretched and because of that, they rushed the ending.
The ending scenes were completely emotionless. After seeing how Seo Jong-gil was still causing trouble. The ML and team were not able to get him back or even stop him. The last episodes all felt emotionless to me and also pointless.
This was a great drama, the first drama to actually make me shed tears. But because of my hate towards the villain and how he never suffered much. I now hate it.
The ML and FL did a great job in showing the emotional scenes in which the robot says how he is just a robot without feelings and all. I really felt those moments. The OST really helped in bringing in the emotional effect. But unfortunately, the ending ruined everything for me.

A brightened moon!!

Zhan Qing Hong, played by Xing Fei,is a young naive, innocent but determined young girl who steps into the martial world instead of getting married as opposed to her peers.
She the meets Lin Fang, played by Yu Menglong, who is determined to take revenge for his clan.
The later story is based on their journey, the people they meet, the situations they encounter, the hurdles and struggles they overcome and finally settled in their life.
The plot is good, neither tensive nor lagging and the pace is also good.
The actors performance is on point and perfect.
The drama is very pleasant to watch.Go for it.

AWESOME

I certainly enjoyed this Series. All the actors were fabulous and I liked them all! Many which were familiar from other series I watched. Story was awesome. It was sad, sweet, happy, goofy, crazy, funny, etc. all wrapped up in one series.
I simply loved it.
I only gave a low rewatch rating because I have yet to rewatch any series since I have so many yet to watch.
Worth the time!

Storyline on Repeat within the same Drama.

same storyline repeated 5x’s within the same drama. girls love boy boy reject girl boy accepts girl finally for everyone to diapprove and a crazy female 2nd lead to get in the way they breakup process repeats 5 times. Maybe 5 is a little over exaggerated it was 4 times they broke up and got back together the 4th time they stayed together. Now to The crying crying and more crying. In these soap opearas I’m use to the FL crying all the time. The elders crying all the time expected but adding three children to the mix after all this it became over annoying expecially toward the end I was over it. the last 5 min with the special episode I was like these times would have been better elaborated on instead of crying half of the last 10episodes. Just to point out all the relationships formed no one appoved of. I’m happy I watch Beauty and Dr Romantic 1st because I would have missed a good one if I started off with this one

Bit dated but enjoyable.

This is one of those movies that going in I didn't really have high expectations per it's subject matter, but it actually surprised me. It's by no means a master piece and would probably not be made today but was still enjoyable and had some laugh out loud moments.

Serious the scene where she throws the dog had me laughing so hard. Lol :D

I think trying to show you should have confidence in yourself is great, but this movie kind of falls flat on it's face when delivering the message as it really only means that if your attractive. The ML waivered back and forth between a jerk and being the hero. I suppose in fairness he did say he was an asshole so I suppose he got what he deserved in the end. At least there wasn't some SML who had to stand by and watch as all the shit went down. Very 2006 too, the hair of that era was just..... a bad idea. The music was really good, I really liked it but i don't see myself turning this on again. One watch was enough.

Take of sun and moon

Lu Li,a carefree young man accidentally meets Liu Shao and falls in love with her, though his master has warned him not to do so.On their path of immortal cultivation,Lu Li becomes Luo Ge,a cloaked immortal and along with Liu Shao unravel deep secrets buried in their past.
Vin Zhang as the male lead and Xu Lu and as female lead were good in their roles.
I liked the character of He Na the most in this drama,Wang Youshuo acting was very nice.He was kind, caring, loving, and always there for Liu Shao in times of need and also a good demon king I have seen so far.
The plot, though could have been much better, was good and the remaining cast were also good in their roles.
This drama can be watched easily without any hesitation, though in my opinion only once.

Could be much better drama

The drama starts off pretty good but as the story progresses the pace slows down, the plot lacks intensity and there is no room for character development. This show could be written better to make into a good drama but rather was written as a light hearted drama which rarely brings few smiles.
All the actors were good though in their acting.
It is a only one time watch for me.

WE NEED SEASON 2 OF THIS MASTERPIECE

Please give us a season 2!!!! Pleaseeee I need it for my soul. ❤️ Also, all viewers please remember to like this show on Netflix so they know the audience loved the series and want season 2.
The Review:
The cinematography and story was so good!!!
The acting was next level. I cried, I felt the tention, I felt the anger, I felt the happiness, I felt the love between the characters.
This is 100% the best acting I have seen in any series this year. Both Liu and Benjamin are just perfectly matched visually and they have insane chemistry. It's impossible not to root for their characters... the romance is more than just surface level.... you see how much they care for each other and how they complete each other. It's a beautiful love story.
I must add Andy Chen who plays Gao Tian is super charming. He's so cute and charismatic.
Please season 2... PLEASE!!!!!

Light hearted drama

This drama is strictly for those people who only want to watch light hearted dramas but not a drama based on serious plot.
The main protagonist played by Xu Kai is on the path to immortal cultivation and becomes a disciple of Sandrine Pinna, the female lead.
The plot is very light hearted, based on slapstick comedy.
The plot lacks intensity and depth and at sometimes drags a bit.
It is a strict one time watch for me if not for the actors acting.
