so amazing

the acting in this was next level definitely top 5 shows I’ve watched so far omg I loved all the characters so much it felt so realistic in the ways they dealt with conflict oh jung-se (sang-tea) completely nailed that character you never want it to look mocking and I feel like it was just perfect

moon young felt like morticia addams while some parts had me annoyed at her I had to realize she just doesn’t really think like them and is just showing love in the way she knows but I did love her overall so much

gang-tea was just perfect the way he was with his brother and the way he treated moon-young just perfection

Very comfy, binge-worthy show.

I liked the concept, and I was rooting for the heroine throughout the entire show. The side characters and all dynamics were likeable, and many heartwarming scenes that make you emotionally invested. Also, I had a preference in the love triangle, but I don't mind how things ended either.

Some things didn't make this show almost perfect. I wanted more exploring of themes about accepting your beauty possibly without romantic involvement too much but the show was so fun that I glossed over these issues.

Yeah. Ok, just watch it. Umm. Peace.

I apologise for the silly title. I was joking with an MDL senpai, and mentioned I might write an one line review . . . Don't shoot me!

As I just finished The Art of Sarah a few days ago, comparison is unavoidable. I'll keep it simple; Siren’s Kiss is better and both FL looks amazing in couture. If looks could kill!

PMY has been working consistently for years. Not all her dramas are top rated though. If I'm honest, some left me questioning her choices myself. Thankfully, this is one of the better ones. Not perfect, but good enough to keep the faith.

How so? May I present your honour with three pieces of supporting evidence.

Firstly, the optics of PMY is striking. Where she deliberately destroyed her visage in Marry My Husband. She also styled her looks to fit in with her character here. Han Seol-Ah barely eats and mostly survived on water and alcohol. It is a kind of penance, survivor's guilt if you like.

PMY went on a diet before and during the production. She does look gaunt at times which is worrisome. The director knows how to pull your focus towards her in most scenes.

Secondly, the writer-nim did a decent job with the script. While romance is a strong component, it is a whodunit at heart. I won't say that it is the best crime fiction though. It is not hard to see though some of the twist and turns. Now I'm curious about the 1999 J-drama series this is based on.

Thirdly, I have to admit the production team made the most of the posh fine art auction house as its setting. All those beautiful art installations. It is interesting to observe the back-end processes as well. I don't know how realistic it is, but it does elevate it above the typical office drama.

This also allows the show to set up some eye-catching scenes where the boundary between art and reality is blurred.

In terms of acting, PMY is the star. She knows her craft and she is dependable. She ages like a fine wine.

She is ably assisted by the ML. They are well matched and their chemistry is undeniable. Most of the supporting cast did well. The chairwoman and the 2ML are standouts. The SML did ok. He is probably the weaker link.

On top of that, the production value is top-notch. I don't know how realistic it is, but it is certainly a kaleidoscope of excesses. (Cough) The Art of Sarah (cough) OBTW, the OST is pretty good as well.

For me, it is one of the better shows of 2026. It is flawed, but very watchable. I won't quite recommend this to everyone as it is a bit niche in its presentation. It might even spark a debate of style vs substance amongst friends. Peace.

P.S. My original title was "How many femme fatales does it take to change a lightbulb?” . . . Don’t shoot me!

Unimpressive female lead

The story initially started off with promise but the character of the female lead started to increasingly decline. Unfortunately, unlike the women in the Story of Ming Lan or The Double, the one in this series just seems hypocritical and lacking in moral. I wouldn't have minded the morality aspect as much if that's how the character is supposed to be but her core personality is just all over the place. One minute she's totally fine with arson and potentially killing off an entire household and the next minute, she's playing nice to the child she almost killed - then tries to blame her "assassin" companion for not telling her there were kids in the house. She's not one who is capable of relying on herself and this odd companion of hers is just a really awkward add to the cast.

However, it was still a decent plot and I kept watching... until the scene where a group walked in and the male lead pulled her to the side while covering her mouth to stay hidden. Instead of ascertaining the situation appropriately and using common sense, she decide to stomp on his feet and bite his hand? For what? For both of them to get caught? Meh.

HOLY AIRBALL - DO NOT WATCH THIS

The Good:
- The actors are capable of acting well and I have seen the ML act in a different show and put in a good performance
- Music is solid
- Cinematography and visual vibes are strong especially in the nostalgic shots

The Bad:
- The two leads are the most incompetent people on planet earth when it comes to interpersonal communication. The first time when they were young it was fine but when they reconnect a decade later its clear that neither of them have grown at all.
- The conflict in the leads relationship the second time is completely ridiculous and if either of them was capable of communication it never would have happened at all.
- The actors I think CAN be good but in this show the male lead especially is written with two emotions, 1. neutral 2. slightly sad, this gets old fast and I would've loved to see this guy emote like a human one time.
- They don't expand upon or wrap up any of the side character stories.

**********SPOILERS************

- The main villain of this story being the fact that the two leads are adults with schedules that they need to work around is frustrating to see play out especially when both of their circumstances are known to be temporary, FL: wants to get closure on her guest house and close it properly...doesn't communicate it at all and leaves out the fact that her ex was involved heavily. ML: grandma is hospitalized and he needs to visit often...knows that this event that causes another hardship in their scheduling is temporary but somehow can't work through it for the short-term.
-The ending. I do not care at all if the leads end up together and my whole perception of the show doesn't hinge on that but what the f**k was that ending. My thoughts going into the last 20 minutes of the last episode was that the two leads would finally have a proper breakup and get their closure......I GUESS I'M A STUPID JACKASS. Instead we get the male lead (who was written as the most passive, uncommunicative, self-loathing, loser of all time) professing his love and sending the FL off to Hawaii to start her new life and to call him if she ever sees a future with him in it. THIS GUY IS PATHETIC. He then decides to fix up her old house, take a job that his mom use to have near the city (he had said previously that he had wanted this job since he was a kid so I don't hate this part), and I guess just wait around for the FL to maybe come back?

Summary:
DO NOT waste your time. The show was only 10 episodes but it managed to make me feel like I spent an eternity trapped inside it. The show starts off strong enough but quickly loses all momentum and grinds to a glacial pace. I had to put this show in 1.5 speed in some sections and it still felt like it was moving in slow motion. The leads both being insufferable to watch interact and the complete lack of a real ending made me genuinely angry as I mourn the hours I spent, and will not get back, watching this steaming mess of a show. I have never written a review on any 30~ dramas I have watched, but I was genuinely raging at the end and needed to get my thoughts out somehow so that I could go to sleep.

Note:
A lot is left to the imagination so I guess if you're creative enough you can spin the ending any way you want to fit whatever narrative you want but this open ended style where neither lead gets a real ending is frustrating to see when you invest this much time into the show. A show that I felt did a similar end a lot better was **SPOILERS** Twenty Five Twenty One. In this show it feels like the leads were able to get closure and grow as people while not ending up together. It seemed like this show was going for that kind of vibe at the end but tripped over their own proverbial feet.

Spicy with good looking ML but FL irritated me

I had this drama in my watchlist but only yesterday remembered to watch it because I was missing Zhou Ling Feng's acting. I watched Bend Over a few months ago so I had some expectations with this drama. Unfortunately they were not met. I prefer Bend Over.

What I liked:
1. ML characterisation - He was mysterious from the get go. I wasn't sure whether he had been reborn too when FL thought of it.
2. Romance - Their love language was physical touch. Lotsa kisses. They couldn't get away from each other. Many forms of seduction between them.
3. Zhou Ling Feng - He was good in his role. Insanely in love / lust and the same thing adorable (I blame his baby faced).
4. Styling - I liked their outfits especially when both were wearing emerald green. I also liked the outfits worn by the concubines.
5. Dream - I enjoyed the dream sequences as they provided insights towards ML's characterisation.

What I disliked:
1. FL characterisation - Gosh her character wasn't interesting when she was without ML. So clingy and weak. Her moments with other love rivals were too little.
2. Wang Hai Min - I didn't like her acting her. She looked like she was going to cry all the time and that baby voice irritated me.
3. Antagonists- I didn't like FL's sister and that girl who aspired to be a concubine.

Favourite scene
When FL seduced ML during daytime

room for much improvement

I was really excited about this drama, based on the cast list, but I'm a slight bit disappointed by how everything plays out.

First, I hoped (based on the title) that this would be a supernatural drama where the FL is actually a siren. I feel like they tease the siren imagery a lot with the water scenes and the mermaid wine bottle logo. It would have fit so well with the mystery/murder/romance themes too! But unfortunately the siren thing is just a motif. Wasted potential, in my opinion. I feel like if the yacht victim is actually killed by some sort of underwater creature, it would make for an even more gripping and riveting plot.

Second, the relationship dynamic between the FL and ML isn't great. They're both great actors and they're visually stellar, but I think the chemistry is a little wonky. There's also an issue of writing in the character dynamic. We don't really know what attracts the characters to one another (aside from a weird stockholm-syndrome-trauma-bond). We can tell that the ML is enraptured by the FL... just like every other man in the drama,.. but we really can't tell WHY. I wanted to know the finer details, not just that he finds her gorgeous and empathizes with her suffering.

On a slight tangent, and I do not mean to body shame, the actress who plays the FL looks worryingly, undernourished. Compared to other roles I've seen her in, I was genuinely concerned by how visible her bones were in this drama. Again, this is not to shame her—and obviously I don't know what is going on in her private life, so it's not my place to say—but I just found myself constantly hoping she was alright when she came onscreen. It kind of took away from the viewing experience too, in like a fourth wall breaking kind of way.

Fourth, the killer reveal is not shocking at all, but it's kind of lackluster. It's satisfying to see who the person is, but then we transition to the ending so quickly that I'm left with so many questions as a viewer. I wanted to know more about the psychological background, motives and goals of the killer. We only get a glimpse! I wanted to know if the killer is capable of true love, or only attachment/obsession. I wanted to know why the killer makes the decision that they make at the end of episode 12, AFTER ALL THAT BUILD UP. Ugh. The ending pisses me off so bad.

Ok, so I did spend most of this review complaining; however, I was genuinely engaged the entire time I was watching this drama. I waited until a bunch of episodes dropped before I started binge watching, then found myself excited each week for the next episode. Is there a lot a room for improvement? Yes. Is it still a fun watch? Sure. Would I recommend it? Most likely.

Gorgeous visuals, talented cast, amazing romance… and a C-drama curse of a last third slump.

Pursuit of Jade is basically half romance half adrenaline-fueled ride for a huge chunk of the runtime, and honestly… the drama fully deserves the hype people are throwing at it right now despite some of its flaws most C dramas suffer in the second half.

The production is doing THE MOST (in the best way) in this drama. So let me start here because if you are like me and you care even a little about visuals, this show will feed you. I don’t care what others say about excessive filters and other gimmicks but C-dramas are a guilty pleasure for me and I don’t expect much realism from them when I watch them as long as I can wrap my head around it the ideas.

Cinematography: absolutely gorgeous, super vibrant, and honestly imaginative—especially the winter setting. It’s cinematic in a “wait—pause—this is art” way. The cozy small town scenery in the first third) is everything.

Battle scenes + war scenery are masterfully choreographed and shot. The energy feels real, and the staging/camera work makes it way more immersive than “generic C-drama fighting.”

From the very beginning, the drama sets a really high bar, and it stays there more often than not. And when I say high bar, I don’t mean just the production value. I mean, as far as the romance goes.

Romance occupies first 10 episodes almost entirely, laying a foundation for later. After episode 10 the story begins to expand (and it works… mostly).
We start getting deeper backstory for other important characters and the whole thing starts widening into a bigger picture.

Now, I’m picky about this because I usually watch Asian dramas for romance (and yes, they often do it better than Western shows). Sometimes when romance is super intense at the start and then “becomes a background story,” it loses its spark. That’s why this drama is a bit of a mixed bag for me. It’s heavy on romance at first, and it sets up a mood and an expectation for the rest of the series, then it steers towards other areas and never quite gets back to romance in the same capacity it’s presented to us at the beginning. Romance magic does come very close in the final couple of episodes to the romance at the beginning of the drama.

Overall if you’re watching Pursuit of Jade for romance, you’ll still get what you want here. While it wobbles a little, it remains consistent throughout the 40 episodes. And if you want romance *plus* other historical high stakes stuff, you’ll enjoy it too.

The characters (including villains) feel real. I liked how the cast was fleshed out—not just the main couple. But the pig slaughtering squad, the villagers, the children. The villains aren’t just “villains because plot said so.” They are multifaceted.

Zhang Ling He as Marquis of Wu’an aka Yan Zheng is stunning. Like… he’s gorgeous (and we all know it) and the performance is strong. Doesn’t matter that he stays in bed and is mostly wounded for at least half the drama if not more. I think this actually makes it more realistic. He does have pretty good fighting scenes, but as far as palace setting stretch of episodes, I wish he would have done more scheming of his own. But again, I think it has a lot to do with the source material.

And regarding all the online criticism going around about his makeup: it’s irrelevant and driven by haters. The reason you’ll see people picking at it is probably because Zhang Ling He’s popularity is rising internationally—so of course the haters get louder. People will look for anything to pick on. Also—let’s be real—both Luo Yunxi as Tantai Jin and Chen Zheyuan as Prince Feng Suige in their respective dramas have way heavier makeup. Somehow no one has said anything at the time. So yeah. Ignore the nonsense.

Zhang Ling He’s performance is versatile and he delivers the kind of male lead energy you want in a romantic historical drama. He has been working very hard this past few years. He deserves all the success because I can’t imagine to star in as many successful dramas he has since Love Between Fairy and Devil came out. I’m looking forward to more of his work.

Tian Xi Wei as Fan Chang Yu is also convincingly great. She feels natural in the role and carries the emotional beats well. The “country bumpkin” arc dragged a bit in my opinion. But her change in episode 26 was INTENSE. I actually liked seeing her true colors open up because she looks like a completely different person in that battle scene. That’s one of the most intense battle scenes in the whole drama. The only thing that bothers me here is that the transition wasn’t seamless, but rather immediate. I would have liked to see her transition from a simple country girl to military power house slower, but more organic.

The chemistry? Yeah, it’s one of the best I’ve seen in a while between leads. It’s genuinely top tier—like, not forced. You believe they’re in love on screen.

If I’m being honest, the romance is the reason I stuck so hard and rewatched certain moments.

And I think the production crew matters a lot here too—direction, cinematography, how intimate moments are translated. I’m not the kind of person who replays scenes for fun, but I did rewatch several of theirs because the acting and execution were just that good. Their emotional scenes are very well acted out. You can feel it.

I enjoyed the power dynamic shifts, the dramatic moments between them, and the amount of skinship we got. I feel their story is mostly satisfying—with just a few could’ve been slightly more opportunities for more interesting romance high stakes situations. Specifically towards words the end.

One thing I really didn’t love (my personal pet peeve) is the separation.

This is personal preference, but it bothers me: I’m not a fan of third-act breakups/separations where one person just decides to step back because they “think it’s best,” instead of it being clearly justified, discussed, and agreed in a healthier way.

Without actually asking the other one what they want—Fan Chang Yu suddenly draws that line between herself and Yan Zheng aka Marquis of Wu’an, first because of difference in status, and then other factors. Girl didn’t even ask him. Just made a decision for him while he is simping so hard, it’s difficult to watch. I was like *okay… I’m supposed to take this seriously… right?* Because how come she can be a strong female lead in every way except for *keeping your man in your grabby hands* way? I was expecting that this separation was there for a reason. It made me think that something would come off it later in the drama. But it didn’t really pay off in a way that felt meaningful later.

Eventually they got back together, and it felt like the separation happened mostly because that’s what the plot requires.

Again—this is just my gripe. I’ve watched too many C-dramas so I already know what I’ll like and what will annoy me.

Side story: Yu Qian Qian + Qi Min / Sui Yuan Huai felt dark… but also messy.

I found Qi Min’s character very compelling. But… I don’t think he was written in a super organic way in the script.

He doesn’t feel introduced with a clean flow. It took me a lot of the drama to finally piece together what the relationship between him and Qian Qian even truly was. I didn’t understand what he saw in her until the last episode, and we didn’t get much insight into her mental state either. I also didn’t understand why he didn’t want his son to live. Some motivations felt unclear to me—like the presentation was all over the place. I basically had to piece together his character from the choppy pieces of the story we were given. I think having better written dialogues for them would have clarified some of the things.

That said Deng Kai does really well in the role. I’m pretty sure he’s ML-material, he just needs the right kind of projects.

Another small thing that bothered me were pointless characters that were introduced that eventually get deserted or get endings that feel kind of “that’s it?”

We don’t hear from them again much, and it makes it feel like some setup doesn’t land.

For example: Sui Yuan Qing. There’s a lot of fuss in the beginning implying he’ll matter hugely… but he’s basically dead 2/3 into the drama. A chunk of screen time early on that was given to him and his feud between our lead couple feels wasted. He has such insane chemistry and potential for a great conflict with Fan Chang Yu. But apparently, poor guy was mostly there to be a tool for something else. His ending is pitiful. Similar vibe with Wei Xuan and a few others, including Li Wen Kan. He just kind of got forgotten halfway through the show after he served his purpose. He only shows up at the end to provide military support.

My biggest issue is pacing, mostly the last third slump. This is probably the core reason this didn’t become a perfect experience.

First and second thirds were interesting, romantic, and super satisfying. Romance is strong early, then military action ramps up, and that actually works. But after episode 30, like… very many Chinese dramas do this, and I felt it happen here too: the drama starts losing steam.

I almost wish they had fewer episodes and a tighter last third instead of all those longer dragging scenes for characters who only appear briefly no one cares to know what they think, plotlines that exist mainly so the characters can die for someone.

The ending is still satisfactory and production quality stays high—BUT the ending still feels a little anti-climactic. The big reveal about who Fan Chang Yu’s father is and the consequences and the revenge were glossed over. Her husband it’s supposed to help her figure it out, but he wasn’t even around half the times. there is a lot of wasted potential here with this storyline. And then in the very last episode, we need to go back in time and see what happened. At this point of the drama, viewers don’t care what happened in the past.

So… should you watch it?
Yes. Strongly.

Pursuit of Jade is still a very well-made drama and I genuinely recommend it to people who want:

- adrenaline-fueled battle scenes
- high-stakes energy
- mind-blowing romance
- charming and talented leads
- lots of comedic elements
- gorgeous visuals, including color grading + vibrant cinematography
- a talented cast + intrigue + backstories

Are there a couple of better ones I’ve personally loved more? Sure. But this is absolutely worth checking out, especially if you’re the type who wants romance + action that doesn’t feel boring for most of the runtime.

If you’re on the fence, I’d say give it a shot—because the first stretch has serious momentum, and the production is too good to ignore. In the end, you will still want to stick around to see how it all wraps up. It’s still a really really good historical drama with strong romance, strong acting, and a very high production value.

I liked it

I believe that not everyone is the same and some young ladies are very shy and brought up in a life of not there choosing which leads them to grow up much slower than most because of a sheltered life they had to endure.
I really liked this movie and thought the actors did a great job playing their parts and its a movie I don't mind seeing again.

Red flag.

I went into this series really wanting to like it, but I just couldn’t get past the age gap. Sixteen years is a huge difference 20 and 36 might both be adults, but it still feels deeply uncomfortable. The 20 old girl comes across as very immature, almost like a middle schooler in the way she acts, which makes the dynamic even more offputting.

I honestly couldn’t understand what the older character found attractive in her, and that made it hard for me to stay invested. Because of that, I wasn’t able to finish the series.

The Post Production Editing Was Distracting

It got better the sadder it got and I'm sure that says something about me as a viewer. I enjoyed the last three episodes because they had to tone down the excessive amount of sound and visual effects used in the first half of the series to match the more serious tone of the second half. I hope Baipor and BamBam get another chance to shine in a true drama together. Their chemistry was good and I think they proved it is something they can do.

Mostly really really good. But when it's bad it's really bad.

First off, let's focus on the positives. The two leads, Bail Lu and Allen Ren, are really good, renewing their quirky chemistry from One and Only only this time in a romance that doesn't have societal and imperial forces blocking them from marriage. The two characters are both 'different' from normal FL & ML characters and both are likely somewhere on the autistic / ADHD spectrum. Both characters are extremely high-functioning, but also each has quirky issues. Ren's character, Zhou Sheng Chen, in particular has quirks that at time feel close to debilitating. But strangely, both characters are immediately drawn to each other and fit perfectly together in complementary ways that just 'work' for their characters. This builds into a slow-paced but incredibly solid love story between two souls that, per the premise of One and Only being their 'past life', seemed destined to finally be together.

Ren has a difficult role to play, being a very different sort of character that is not always easy for the audience to empathize with. He mostly does an outstanding job though perhaps overplays it a bit at times. Some of that may be the fault of the script and direction, though.

Bai Lu's character is also quirky but at least is a little more conventional. She absolutely nails it as this Shi Yi really feels like a modern incarnation of past life Shi Yi. Outwardly sweet, shy and endearing, yet quietly extremely talented and intelligent. The show is by far the most enjoyable to watch when Bail Lu is on-screen. She is able to bring elegance and grace when needed in one scene and goofy cute silliness in the next and she's always so 'real' with her portrayals because she never overacts. An absolute queen of micro-expressions.

The rest of the cast is solid though I can't really call out any outstanding performances since most of the supporting characters just didn't get a lot to do in the story even though they presented as potentially having more to show. The SML character of Mei Xing, played by Ci Sha, has the only other important story arc, as it is implied that he is also reincarnated from the One and Only timeline. He seems clearly to be the modern life of the psychotic prince Liu Zi Xing who was just awful and caused so much pain for past-life Zhou SHeng Chen and Shi Yi in O&O. Past life Xing brutally tortured and killed ZSC and motivated Shi Yi to take her own life in order to follow ZSC. So this 'modern' Xing has a lot of past life sins to atone for and pay penance for. After initially looking like he, as in the past life, also might become bizarrely obsessed with Shi Yi, eventually shows that he's not going to be the same in this life. He holds true as the most loyal of friends to modern life Zhou Sheng Chen. And eventually finds his way to realizing that he loves Chen's younger sibling. His loyalty and faithful service to ZSC is his atonement for the injustices he committed to past-life ZSC. His acknowledgement of his love for Chen's sister Zhou Wen Xing is atonement for his dismissal of the love that Qi Xing Hua had offered in the past life. And the pain he endures as he has to watch Wen Xing's life slip away from him is his penance to endure in this life. If the whole 'next life' premise of these two stories is to be accepted, then one has to believe that in a future life, Mei Xing and Wen Xing will finally be able to be happy together.

So the acting performances were solid and those two main romance arcs, one ultimately happy and the other sad but perhaps hopeful for the next life were overall good. The production values are all excellent. Some beautiful cinematography, great on-point wardrobes and costumes and beautiful sets. Oh, and really nice musical soundtrack as well. What's not to like?

Well ... just a couple of things. For the most part, when the story is moving forward with the quirky but steady romance, it works well and is very intelligently scripted. But whenever the story decided to add an 'exciting drama event' .... it is just a disaster. In those scenes, suddenly characters just start behaving incredibly stupid and bizarrely, seemingly on purpose to just make the drama event as crazy bad as possible. This happens 3 times in particular.

****SPOILERS****
In one scene, Mei Xing, who is very drunk, is being driven back by side character Lin Fei along a highway. Some 'bandits' stand out on the road holding clubs, with the apparent intention to rob passing vehicles. So what does Lin Fei do? First, he slows gradually to a halt. He could easily have kept up speed and simply dared the thugs to jump out of the way. Or he could have thrown the car into reverse to get away and then turned around to leave easily. But no. for no apparent reason he stops. And then he makes it worse by STEPPING OUT OF THE CAR????? That made absolutely zero sense. He should have stayed in the car and called police. And driven away. So both he and Mei Xing end up getting beaten by the thugs (who of course it turns out were actually sent there by the villain of the story but that's irrelevant to just how stupid this scene played out). The whole scene just drops your jaw as you watch it, wondering how any human could be that stupid. Yes, the plot wanted a scene where the villain had some thugs beat up Mei Xing. Fine. But it could have easily, EASILY have been done without looking comically stupid and contrived like this.

Later, in another 'important' scene, Shi Yi and Wen Xing are sitting in a boat with a boatman paddling them slowly along the canal during a festival. Fine. Then, when they decide it was time to go back, for some inexplicable reason both girls stand up in the boat. Naturally Shi Yi falls into the water. Naturally Shi Yi can't swim. UN-naturally, THE BOATMAN CAN"T SWIM EITHER!!! This forces the chronically ill Wen Xing to have to jump into the water to save Shi Yi. This event puts Shi Yi into a coma for a bit and dramatically worsens Wen Xings already poor health. The 'event' was important to the story. But how it played out was just so silly and contrived. It just, again, seems like any half-decent writer could have written that scene so it would play out more realistically.

Another event that I won't go into too much detail is the 'acute appendicitis' event that again, makes no sense. This gets glossed over with no appendectomy occurring which makes no sense. But whatever. Magic medicine made it go away?

The last major plot event that was just bizarre to watch play out is near the end of the series: Through a combined sequence of just incredibly bizarre behaviors and stupid decisions by multiple characters, the 'villain' o f the story, Zhou Wen Chuan, manages to take Shi Yi hostage and ends up hurting both her and Zhou Sheng Chen seriously in a just totally silly sequence. The end result is Shi Yi falls into a coma. And this leads into by far, the WORSt 2 episode stretch of the whole series. Basically both episodes 28 and 29 are utter garbage. Shi Yi spends nearly all of it in a coma and all the other characters act bizarre and strange and the whole thing just drags incredibly slowly. All you can do is grit your teeth and wait for Shi Yi to finally wake up, which finally happens in Episode 30. At that point, seeing Bai Lu again is like fresh air and at least gives a decent 'bounce back' to end the series. But man, both episodes 28 & 29 are so bad they nearly ruined the entire series for me. They are just shocking poorly written after the first 27 episodes had been mostly very well written. They are just full of things, both little and large, that just make no sense because people simply do not really act or do things in the way these episodes portrayed.

I haven't read the books so I can't say whether these 'drama events' are better, more intelligently told in the book or not. But these events were played out just shockingly bad in this show. They really felt like some drunk college freshman in drama club wrote and directed them. And that was so at odds with the way the rest of the show was written.

Okay. That's a lot of complaints about what amounts to 2 full episodes and parts of 2 others. Aside from those bad bits, I found the rest of the series quite enjoyable and do give it a 'thumbs up'. I do think the show is more enjoyable for folks who endured the painful, beautiful tragedy of One and Only. So that may be an impediment for some viewers. But if you have that behind you, Forever and Ever is mostly a much deserved pleasant treat to watch. Just grit your teeth through the above cringe parts.

Easy to watch

Maybe I set my expectations too high seeing that they made three seasons. Maybe I am just not in the mood for this type of comedy nowadays. Not that it's bad, just that it's not everyone's cup of tea. It is very Korean style light-hearted comedy which can be cheesy at times. But aside from the comedy, it does have a darker thriller plot.

My biggest takeaway is the feeling that, for Lee Je Hoon, this is not work, this is his hobby lol. Specifically during the voice phishing arc.

Incredible cast

The cast is incredible. Ren Su Xi's acting is so natural as usual. I looked forward to Wang Xiao who did not disappoint. I was also curious about Ye Zu Xin. I don't think his voice is that suited for this role, it sounded like he was purposefully making his voice sound deep and low. But his acting is solid. Lan Xi Ya's role is very limiting, but she did a good job. I haven't watched any of Dong Qing's dramas, but her performance in this one really impressed me. Her breakdowns were really captivating even though it's another situation where the male counterpart can't keep up. During her highlight scenes, I didn't feel like her brother managed to act out his character's very complicated emotions. I'm confused if they purposefully wrote the brother the way they did.

Otherwise, the only criticism I have of this drama is that: it's a drama that makes me feel like a lot is happening, yet nothing is happening at all. The suspense is definitely there, but somehow the plot feels like it's moving kind of slow. The open ending and how short the show was definitely contributed to this feeling. I think Chinese dramas should stick to their roots and film everything in one go. Please don't torture me with cliff hangers.
