Trust me, just watch it

I'll keep it short, this was a fantastic cdrama. The director is an actual artist so the entire show is filled with gorgeous shots and beautiful editing. The script is also fantastic with no logic holes and no filler episodes. Everyone is gorgeous to look at, the acting is wonderful, the costumes are wonderful and this is by far the best reliving the past kind of drama I've ever seen.

The FL and ML compliment each other in a way that I haven't really seen much in cdramas before. She is truly a smart, resourceful person and he is a level headed, strong person who respects her and trusts her. Their partnership truly felt equal, the political conflicts also made sense and was easy to follow. This by no means should be interpreted as "it was simple", it just did a very good job at keeping the romantic storyline and the main plot conflict equally gripping. I wasn't bored for even a second and that says a lot for me.

On repeat

I've rewatched this an unhealthy amount. The documentary style of the show is so well executed and the color grading and editing really gives it that familiar, nostalgic feeling that makes you feel like you're truly in the story with the actors. The entire cast did a wonderful job and I could truly see the point of view of each character so clearly and that every action they took made an insane amount of sense.

It takes true talent to create characters that comes alive on the screen and this show has definately captured that.

More than 10/10: A masterpiece that will always have a special place in my heart.

I’m not usually patient with long dramas. My free time is mostly spent outdoors running, hiking, or cycling. But The Untamed completely pulled me in.

Some dramas are simply entertaining, but some stories stay with you long after the ending. For me, The Untamed is that kind of drama.

I started this drama without expecting too much. I thought I was simply watching a story about cultivators, clans, and a mysterious past. I never expected it to become the drama that would introduce me to an entire world of C-dramas and remain my number one favorite until now.

What makes The Untamed unforgettable is not only its fantasy world, cultivation system, or the mystery surrounding the Yin Iron and past events. What truly makes this drama special are the characters, their choices, and the unforgettable bonds they created.

Wei Wuxian is one of the most memorable characters I have ever watched. He is playful, charming, and full of life on the outside, but behind his smile is someone carrying loneliness, pain, injustice, and countless sacrifices.

Xiao Zhan’s portrayal of Wei Wuxian was one of the biggest reasons this character became so unforgettable. He captured every side of Wei Wuxian — the carefree young cultivator, the person who carries the weight of protecting others, and someone who continues to smile despite everything he has lost. His emotional scenes, especially during moments of suffering and heartbreak, made the character feel incredibly human.

Lan Wangji, on the other hand, is a character of quiet strength. He does not express his feelings easily, but his loyalty and actions speak louder than words. Wang Yibo perfectly portrayed Lan Wangji’s restrained emotions, discipline, and unwavering devotion. Through subtle expressions and small gestures, he showed a character who loves deeply but chooses to protect silently.

The contrast between Xiao Zhan and Wang Yibo’s performances created a powerful dynamic. Their characters were different in personality, but their bond was built on trust, understanding, respect, and standing beside each other when the entire world misunderstood them.

Beyond the main characters, what touched me the most was the drama’s exploration of loyalty, friendship, family, and the consequences of choices. It showed that people are not simply good or evil. Sometimes those who are judged as villains are the ones carrying the heaviest burdens.

The world-building, costumes, music, and atmosphere created a universe that felt alive. Every clan, every character, and every past event added depth to the story. But what truly made this drama special was the emotional journey — the happiness, heartbreak, sacrifices, and friendships that felt real.

After watching many C-dramas across different genres, The Untamed remains my top drama of all time. It was not just my first C-drama; it was the beginning of my journey into xianxia, wuxia, and countless unforgettable stories.

Some dramas end when the final episode finishes. But some stories stay with you.

The Untamed is one of those stories. A masterpiece that will always have a special place in my heart. ❤️

A show that could have been great, and yet...

It could have been so good, almost like a Korean version of Life As We Know It (if you haven't watched it I would highly recommend a Hollywood take on a similar plot). Unfortunately, it ended up falling into the same old trap: a love-triangle-heavy storyline that felt bland and predictable. If I'm being honest even the love triangle part was boring, I personally couldn't care less how it ended simply because NONE of the characters were interesting.

Let's start with what I did like, which was the small community they built with the neighbors and how Hyeon Jin, Tae Hyeong and U-Ju became a true family. The ups and downs, their efforts and obstacles they faced...That aspect had so much potential, and I would have loved to see a clearer focus on the found-family dynamic. The child actor playing U-ju was absolutely adorable, and honestly the show could have worked much better as a family-centered story with the romance as a secondary element.

Instead, the characters felt underdeveloped, the script was somewhat lackluster, and the whole thing just felt like it was missing a bit of soul. One detail that also kept pulling me out of the story: because I’m fluent in Korean, I noticed that they kept addressing each other as “in-law” even after they supposedly grew closer and agreed to speak more casually. At that point it would have felt much more natural for them to start using each other’s actual names.

For the actual cast; I really like the actress Roh Jeong Eui, and I genuinely mean no harm, but every time she spoke, I found myself focusing more on how tired she appeared than on the actual scene, which pulled me out of the story. Her line delivery was also not her best work.

I’m also a fan of the male lead Bae In Hyuk from his early days, but the two leads just didn’t have any real chemistry together. Their dynamic never quite felt convincing. The second male lead didn’t help much either, his character felt like an overly idealized version of a past love. He was almost unrealistically nice and accommodating, to the point where it felt artificial. Love Park Seo Ham but I understand the backlash over how much screen time he occupied for it to serve no purpose in the end.

This could have been a healing drama with comedic moments, something about two people confronting the fact that they both grew up without a large family and slowly redefining what “family” means. There were interesting contrasts the show could have explored more deeply, like Hyeon Jin having her sister as a parental figure while Tae Hyeong never really had that kind of support, and how that shaped his feelings toward his own brother. They do get into this but it almost felt like an afterthought rather than a main focus.

In the end, the premise had a lot of potential, but the execution never quite lived up to it. I just think the show really missed the mark.

Relaxing Series To Enjoy!!

It's a very laid back series. No special effects, no major antagonist, no major suspense ... and yet, extremely enjoyable.
If you're familiar with Eiji Akaso from past roles, this is his kind of story. He's truly made for this romantic drama, making himself believable and giving you a truly heartfelt performance.
The story is kind of simple, two people from different countries (Japan/Korea) with different backgrounds fall in love. Everything is going against them to make a lasting relationship seem more difficult, but somehow, with the determination between the two of them, they find a way.
I must admit, I wasn't too fond of the character of Rin early on. She seemed to be immature and lacked any kind of confidence toward herself or her boyfriend, Taiga. I think if I had to find a negative, this was it ...
That being said, Hye Won does a great job with this character, recreating her as the series continues. She becomes more likable and blends much more in the way of chemistry with Eiji.
Along the way, not everything is happy or fun, just like in any relationship. The add on drama that gets mixed in with the immediate families toward both protagonists, make for even a better story.
If you're looking for a satisfying, calm & relaxing series, giving you a unique blend of Japanese & Korean food, customs & language, this is your show.

Slow intro, but a gripping and touching story 'til the end

How complicit are we when the people around us commit crimes? Are we complicit in murder if we vote for the death penalty? Some cases are clear and unequivocal, while others are more nuanced and complicated. The Killing Vote did a good job of telling the painful stories of the various main characters so that viewers will not doubt their motives. It is easy to root for these characters.

The writing is also clever enough to keep you guessing as to who the mastermind is. There are lots of little side mysteries that make this series a lot of fun to watch. It also shows how hard it is to fight evil that is supported by corruption and political power.

Most of the actors played their roles convincingly, even the child actors. The only acting or characterization, or both, that was unrealistic was Im Ji Yeon, who plays the female lead and is also police officer. Perhaps she's supposed to represent the Average Jane, but her lack of discipline and and downright impulsive behaviour would have gotten her flunked out of police academy in real life, let alone be able to pursue a career. Im is very pretty and put a lot of effort into making this character appear likeable, however, and it would be interesting to see her in a more serious role.

The music is another major disappointment. Generic techno music is fine since social media, streaming, computers and computer hacking are a major plot device in the story. However, the awful Korean & English mix of rap music is annoying because, as usual, the English lyrics make no sense. Might as well have just made it a completely Korean-language song.

MASSIVE believability issues, but worth it for the lads

Being a Wabi Sabi production, technical merits of the production are poor: it was filmed on cheap cameras, the sound quality is bad.

Directing is also awkward, including poor music score choices with some pieces annoyingly in endless loops, over dramatic music from the UWMA series not fitting the narrative, different music pieces overlapping each other.

* * *

I WISH THEY would drop DeanPharm from this series altogether.

Their story was already told exhaustively in the UWMA series, and it is so overdramatised that it can not properly work as a side story.

The novel/production is beating a dead horse with it for griefpron at this point as there is nothing to tell any more.

It is a totally different mood even. Besides, the UWMA was a magical fantasy, but the main couple here is not.

* * *

I ALSO wish all kinds of series would stop glorying motorcycles and how “cool” they are.

The issue is that you are 24 times (!) more likely to die per travelled kilometre than using a normal car.

And this has nothing to do with how genius you think you are as a driver or if you are not ever breaking speed limits. The very nature of this transportation type is deadly.

Never buy or ride motorcycles, period. Though using a bus is further 15 times safer than using a car. The problem, however, is that in some cases you have no choice due to bad public transport.

* * *

Some of both crucial and minor beliavility issues as well as a major good thing about the series are all described in a spoilers tagged comment below.

What a fun drama

I watched this drama 15 years after its release and expected to cringe a lot.

Boy was I wrong. It had me on a crazy rollercoaster, wanting to know what would happen next, like immediately.

All I can say, it had me hooked and I'm glad I gave it a chance.

This drama really showcased Hyun Bin's talent. He was a very convincing Ra-im. I found out he lost weight for the role, but the mannerisms, the gait, even his stares and sometimes shy gaze. Ugh, he's a wonderful actor.

I must say (I forgot her name) but FL was great too! As Ra-im I oftentimes found her to be too passive, but as soon as she crept in the role of Ju-won, hats off.

I forever hate how dramas tend to cram a lot of progress in the last episode, this one did it too, but I could forgive it because the story remained consistent. The nasty mother remained nasty and thus held her end of the bargain to never accept Ra-im.

Again, I really enjoyed this one.

Only thing "bad" about this was the hair and some of the outfits, but that was '10 fashion for you. All in all, solid 8.

A MATCH OF MINDS

The narrative centers on Cai Zhao, a free-spirited disciple of the Qingque Sect, and Mu Qingyan, a strategic and emotionally complex young master determined to uncover the truth behind his family's massacre. As they traverse Jianghu, they confront longstanding conflicts between righteous and demonic factions, ultimately revealing the ambiguity inherent in the distinction between hero and villain.

The gradual development of the romance between Zhou Yi-ran and Bao Shangen constitutes the series's most compelling element. Their intellectual compatibility avoids reliance on clichéd misunderstandings. Mu Qingyan emerges as a notable, morally ambiguous protagonist whose manipulative and paranoid tendencies stem from childhood trauma. Conversely, Cai Zhao demonstrates perceptiveness, often discerning Mu Qingyan's intentions, which results in a dynamic characterized by psychological tension. Notably, Mu Qingyan's devotion frequently manifests in intense or obsessive behaviors, exemplified by his insistence that the 'lady of his heart' be accepted by his sect, irrespective of her background. The first consensual kiss in episode 29 is widely regarded as a pivotal moment, offering a rare glimpse of vulnerability in Mu Qingyan.

Yuzhi is depicted as the archetypal righteous hero: upright, protective, and respectful. In the initial episodes, he rescues the protagonists from an ambush and consistently serves as a loyal ally to Cai Zhao. His frequent presence near Cai Zhao often provokes irritation in Mu Qingyan. Distinct from conventional jealous rivals, Yuzhi is commended for his maturity; he does not become antagonistic due to unrequited affection but maintains his respect for Cai Zhao. While Mu Qingyan embodies the unpredictability and peril associated with the Demonic Sect, Yuzhi symbolizes the stability and tradition of the Righteous Sect. His support during Cai Zhao's period of solitude and confinement underscores his enduring loyalty. Consistent with the author's style, the dialogue is characterized by wit, and the characters display notable intelligence. The narrative avoids contrived plot devices, and the ensemble cast, including Li Yunrui, contributes depth to the multi-generational themes, enhancing the historical authenticity of the setting.

However, numerous viewers have observed abrupt scene transitions and disjointed editing, likely resulting from extensive censorship or aggressive post-production. The pacing in the initial episodes and the concluding arc is occasionally inconsistent, with certain side plots, including significant revelations, appearing protracted. Although the series excels in atmosphere, the depiction of physical combat is at times diminished by the emphasis on plot and dialogue.

In summary, viewers who prioritize character development, compelling chemistry, and intricate plotting will likely find the series highly rewarding. Conversely, those seeking continuous action or a fast-paced narrative may find the deliberate pacing and editing choices challenging.

Meh...??‍♀️

It's been almost 2 months since I started this, and I cannot seem to convince myself to watch past the 6th episode. I'm not sure what drama I was watching at the time that pushed me to look into more mystery C-dramas. Or was it revenge stories? Honestly, I forget.

What I know is I wanted a story that had a brilliant female lead and that paid a lot of attention to the mystery/revenge element, without letting it get overtaken by the romance. But now, not even quarter-way through, and I can tell this is not what I was looking for or promised. It's a lot more romantic than I thought

As for our main characters...,

The female lead feels wooden to me. They decided to make her smart and resolute in her ultimate goal, but forgot to give her a personality. Or facial expressions. It makes her uninteresting. Like watching paint dry. I know I should be rooting for her, but she's done nothing to make me want to walk with her and see her see her mission through.

The male lead of the other hand, is not quite convincing as this martial arts expert, military fellow. He's giving me pretty boy vibes. Lots of 'pretty boys' play military generals and martial arts experts in C-dramas. It's a known fact. But they have some aura about them to make it believable. He has no such thing. I see him as a pretty pampered prince.

Also, as per ep 6, he's already halfway in love with her, and I don't understand why. Because she's smart? Y'all met two seconds ago?!?! Like.. huh? I could understand if he was intrigued by her and that curiosity slowly developed into love (think Duke Su in 'The Double'). But this insta-love nonsense... Yeah, it does not work for me.

A great way to start this anthology series

The earth being the story of Din and Rose falling in love, both of them being farm owners, their love being one full of protectiveness. I really liked how everything was setup.

We started the story well, giving good backstories and setting up conflicts well. Din and Rose reuniting after all those years was sweet. The way Din didn't force Rose to stay with her even though Rose's father gave Din the responsibility and Rose chose Din by seeing how loyal she was....all of this was perfect. Their fake marriage setup was also good. It lost me after that point onwards.

We see them play a bit of a jealousy game and then finally confessing their feelings but it didn't hit for me. I can understand why Rose would fall for Din, she was so protective and attentive to her every need and did everything to make her comfortable, but why does Din like Rose?? We never get to see them have a more deeper convo or bond. Most of their convos were 'Sorry u stuck protecting me, thank u for saving me'-'Ofc i will protect u, tell me anything u need'. They kind of suddenly shift personalities after their confessions. The Din who made sure she had consent for every single thing just kisses Rose when she drunk out of her mind? Din who was so shy is suddenly very confident everywhere?? I wish Rose was a bit more developed as a character.

Their breakup/break in the last ep didn't make any sense either. Rose didn't show any discomfort in the fact that her father gave Din the responsibility to look after her but she wants to break up cause that responsibility is not there anymore? Din never made it look like it was a burden but the way Rose talked gave a different vibe. I don't understand why they couldn't stay together and talk on the phone like long distance couples do in 2026. They didn't even use the break to get to know each other more, they just got married the instant they saw each other again.

The tone shift of the series was a bit drastic too. All the scenes with Din-Rose were romantic, cute, playful and very sweet and then suddenly we have Wasu with their dark, sinister evil plans and sex trafficking. I felt like I was more tensed about having such evil ppl walk free than these ppl who lived next to him. I couldn't even enjoy the cute moments that much cause deep down i was scared that Wasu and his gang will pop up any moment to assault them. Maybe they could have toned down them a bit and made it a purely land conflict/legal thing.

My fave part was the cousins. I love how they were all integrated into the story and we get to see their personalities shine. All of their interactions added so much to the story. I'm surprised that Water is the next one to air, given that we don't see Nam too much here.

I'm excited for the rest of the stories and to see Din in the future

-Charm Your Pet (2025) is a very good revenge romance drama with Ma Qian Huan (as Quan Ming He) and Lin Rui Xue (as Shen Yu Ling) in the leading couple’s role. This is another adaptation from the web novel "Chuai Diao Yan Qing Nan Zhu, Gou Da Nan Pin Di Wang" by You Gong Yu. The cast did a good job bringing their characters to life and the revenge portion of the plot was well plan and executed. The leading couple had good chemistry and, although the lead female spent most of the drama playing the seductress to Emperor Quan Ming He, she was always part of his plan to love and protect her. The romance has some sensual and intimate scenes that were nicely done. The story has a tight plot and, although rushed, there are no lose end after the drama’s conclusion.
In the meantime, this drama can be found in YouTube under the caption: “【FULL】The Emperor Became Her Secret Lover—Willingly!” (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FMO33ZoDxR4)

wanted to watch this while it was airing - or rather wanted to wait until it finished airing, so could binge watch. but then kept seeing numerous negative comments, as this progress to air that i just shelved it & after finishing this - now - i understand why.

this was ok, even fun but somewhere this lost the plot - from when Su Yeon suddenly decided to portray the typical conniving, evil female that's used as a plot device to come between the mains. why??? i am sorry but Yu Ha really aint much in any department & the worse part, as this progressed his acting went down the drain & he had this constant vacant look on his face - like all the time. who's so desperate they wanna pay (good money) for someone who is acting like he's lobotomized?!? this attractive to whom???
Su Yeon is freakin gorgeous, so u wanna tell me there no other men wanna hit that??? cause i don't buy that she not sought after, any more then i believe how magnetic Yu Ha is, that even his brother wants him. like what was the writer on???

& if this wasn't enough we got this weird ass twist, where Su Yeon knew that Yu Ha & Tae Ha weren't blood related, but also that Tae Ha was possessive of Yu Ha. which crystal ball she got??? & how anything she told Tae Ha made him not just disappear from Yu Ha's life, but also abandon his only source of income... what?!??

& how everything was concluded, Min U didn't confront Su Yeon cause he talked with Tae Ha?? huh?!?? & then the weird twist where Yu Ha ended up employed in the same company Min U & Su Yeon worked in - the same department - what the actual f*ck.
this seriously went from bad to worse & it's a pity cause as i pointed out at the start of my comment, this had the barebone's of a good idea & other then Kim Hyeon Seo (sorry but his acting was atrocious!) the acting was good. & this could've been so much better - oh well a one off & a never again. better luck next time

Strong on paper, weak on execution

The idea of this drama was a good one - showing what virtual reality can and can't offer. While everything in a virtual reality is hyper-perfect, hyper-glaring, hyper-cheezy and hyper carefree, in the end, it's meaningless, hollow, empty and unfulfilling. Only the real deal is that - the real deal with real emotions, real joy, but also real danger of getting hurt. So far, so good.

The realisation of this drama did lack in several aspects though. The acting of Jisoo was average, with no spark and chemistry felt between the leads. The supporting cast were just a piece, with no impact. The drama lacked showcasing the significant difference between virtual realities and real life emotions. The characters lacked depth, and unfortunately the same can be said for the storyline. While the plot itself had a fresh idea, the execution simply didn’t deliver.

The real highlight of this drama, though, was definitely the cameo appearances of the virtual boyfriends. The lineup of actors who showed up for those small roles was seriously top-tier, and I loved seeing all of them.

Overall, Boyfriend On Demand had the concept, but faltered with the execution. With thin storyline and cliché romance setting, the drama is nothing but a regular rom-com with diminishing enjoyment with every episode.

My Rating : 2.5/5
