MAJOR SPOILER BUT THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST WRITTEN PERIOD DRAMA
OST: 8/10Very pleasant to listen to and fits the mood of the drama well.
Cinematography: 7/10
Nothing particularly outstanding. Some of the editing felt a little dated and occasionally resembled a soap opera, which took me out of certain scenes.
Storyline: 10/10
This is where the drama truly shines. The story is well-written, well-paced, and carefully structured. Every plot point unfolds naturally without feeling overwhelming or unnecessarily complicated. The progression feels smooth and easy to follow.
Romance: 60%
Comedy: 10%
Friendship: 10%
Family Feud & Revenge: 20%
If I loved Pursuit of Jade because of Fan Changyu's bold and strong personality, then I loved Qiao Manman even more. She doesn't need to step onto the battlefield to protect her family and husband. Instead, her strength lies in her intelligence, wit, sharp tongue, and strategic thinking. She possesses a kind of soft power that allows her to win people over, especially her family.
While Fan Changyu's boldness eventually became somewhat repetitive in the later part of Pursuit of Jade, Qiao Manman remained consistently engaging throughout the entire drama. Her character development felt stable and well-maintained from beginning to end.
One thing I particularly appreciated was how balanced the episodes were. Even the final episode didn't feel like a filler, which is something many dramas struggle with. However, I do wish the ending had provided more closure and given the main couple a little more screen time.
I was also left wondering about the fate of the other regions, especially Yanzhou. The story focused heavily on Wei State, but by the end, it never clearly explained who eventually ruled Yanzhou. It felt like an unanswered question that was simply left open.
What I loved most about this drama was the romance development. The relationship progressed naturally and convincingly, while the comedic moments helped lighten the mood and prevent the story from becoming too heavy. Although there were war elements, the war arc never dragged on for too long, which I appreciated. Excessive war-focused storylines often become repetitive and slow down the overall narrative.
Another highlight was the canal development project, which served as the central plot throughout the drama. It was introduced and developed consistently across the episodes, making it feel important rather than just a background element. The story was well-arranged and coherent, although I would say it was a fairly straightforward drama without any major plot twists.
My biggest criticism would be the editing. The production could have done a much better job in certain scenes. Some effects felt overly dramatic and gave off a soap-opera vibe. There were also moments where the stunt doubles were noticeably visible. While they looked similar to the actors, it was still obvious enough to break the immersion.
Overall: 9.5/10
Despite a few production flaws, the excellent storytelling, strong character writing, balanced pacing, and satisfying romance made this one of the most enjoyable dramas I have watched this year.

I bet it’s a series you shouldn’t miss to watch ?↕️
I’m already hooked with this series just by Episode 1. The pace of the series is quite fast but it is so good. The scenes can point out the intensity of the conflict between Kingkakol and Neen, the different perspectives of Runch, Neen and Kingkamol to the issues and the opposite dynamic of two families who decode the conditions differently just in ONE EPISODE.
It is really brilliant that they prepared details like Neen confusing and changing pronouns of Runch time to time like from “You” to “Phi” during arguments because she is acting distant yet endearment is still there, and also the outfits and the accessories especially during their first meet showing the social class differences and the personality differences.
What I can’t stop talking about is their acting. Not only Ling, Orm and P Kik, all the characters are fitted perfectly into the series, portrayed their roles very well and delivered what the audience should get from them exactly. The characters Runch and Neen themselves is moving in different speeds like Ling and Orm so no wonder why they acted so well both individual and duel.
The Episode 1 is really good in all aspects script, dialogue, editing, cinematography and the chemistry between them. Worth watching and rewatching again and again.
Don’t dismiss the opportunity to dig the treasure when you’ve already handed a map into your hand 🫶🏻

A beautiful drama !
Truly enjoyed story with all the plots , in flighting of royal throne and storyline of romance. Love the FL and ML and the chemistry between them is excellent. The production is very good and I enjoyed no dubbing of voices except a few. The supporting characters are indeed played their parts especially the prime minister is a character you will truly hate, such a selfish scheming person, the third price who is totally in love with Awu, second prince who harbours hatred and greedy for the throne. The first prince seems weak and constantly pushes & pressure by the queen and PM … the list goes on . It is a very drama .In an excellent drama!

Despite other’s critiques, I tried it… So glad
What a journey I just went on. Good grief. If you’re looking for a palace intrigue/revenge story, you have got to add this to your list watchlist. “Ashes to Crown” isn’t a perfect drama, but it’s an amazing one just the same. So what makes it worth watching?• An FL for the ages. Chu Zhao is iconic. She is brilliant, loyal, strategic, and strong. She is one of the most intelligent FLs I’ve seen in a while (reminds me of Dou Zhao in Blossom… I guess ladies named Zhao are just built different.) But they manage to soften this often stone cold strategist with moments of heartbreak, weariness, and ultimately love.
• Our couple. Good grief. These two were incredible. Their chemistry was phenomenal, the kiss scenes were on point, and their story was great. Plus, they manage to navigate their struggles together through communication and teamwork. Yes, we needed more ML screen time, but, truly, I’m in love with Chu Zhao and Xie Yanlai together.
• Incredibly written intrigue and politics that actually leave you guessing throughout the whole show instead of defaulting to tropes. This isn’t your run of the mill rebirth story. This is cutthroat ancient politics.
“Ashes to Crown” manages to secure a spot on my all-time fave list. It offers a revenge story on par with “The Double”. I wanted more episodes to dive deeper into these characters and this world!
So, ignore the naysayers and give it a try yourself. I think it’ll be worth your time!

Wow! What in the Rakugo world is this amazing drama!
Subjective Gut Rating: 9.25Thanks to Reddit and Netflix, I discovered the incredible drama, “Descending Stories: A Life in Rakugo”. I had never heard of rakugo and definitely don’t have any expectations going into this drama. Rakugo is a 400-year-old traditional Japanese art of comedic storytelling, where the performer plays multiple characters using their own voice, facial expressions, a paper fan and a small hand towel. This is originally a manga series, later adapted to an anime and then this live action drama.
Plot:
The drama mainly focuses on the lives of three rakugo performers from different generations. This is more than starting out as an apprentice and working up the ranks to be the Master. All three of them, Kikuhiko, Hatsutaro and Yotarou, had no family and had nothing. Rokugo is their world, their life, their livelihood and all that they have. While the drama follows their career journeys and very minor romance subplots, it’s how they found themselves, became their own persons and discovered their very own version of rakugo that are central to this plot. Viewers also learn about the traditional stories, music, culture, apprentice/master relationship and the industry. The drama spans many years and different generations, thus they are called descending stories. I’ve grown to love each of their unique personalities, thoughts and decision-making process. Actually, the drama started with a mystery. What happened to this couple on the night of their death? Who killed them? Was the main lead to be blamed for all of this? Why did their daughter hate her mother so much? To round up this amazing drama is the different relationships between the characters - rivals, friends, lovers, found family, apprentice/master.
Rakugo:
There is a LOT of rakugo in this drama. If you are not up for the education of it, this might not be your kind of drama. I believe stories told are all very famous ones. At first, you will have to read the subtitles to follow along the story, while enjoying the magnificent performances by everyone. Their voices, facial expressions, posture and body movement are to be admired and applauded. As they repeat these stories at different performances and rehearsals, you will start to remember them and apply them to what’s happening onscreen with the characters. Some of these stories showcase the acting, others complement and provide a deeper emotional connection to the characters.
Acting:
Salute to main lead, Okada Masaki, playing Kikuhiko/Master Yakumo Yuurakutei. It was amazing seeing him play the young teenager Kikuhiko, and slowly age all the way to 8th Generation Master Yakumo at the age of 70. The audience has no problem understanding how he has changed throughout these years. Contrasting the more stoic and cautious Kikuhiko, is the outgoing and boisterous Hatsutaro played by the equally amazing Yamazaki Ikusaburo. The chemistry between these best friends bring their stories to life. The rest of the cast is just as amazing with many veteran actors and actresses. They make me laugh and cry, and there are also many heartwarming moments.
Romance:
Romance is not central to the plot, but it does play a very important role in the relationship between Kikuhiko, Hatsutaro and Miyokichi. So much happened because of this love triangle. The men have different priorities, thus making very different decisions - career vs. love. And these decisions probably have created the tragedies that happened, and affected the next generation. I guess if I have to nitpick on this drama, it would be Kikuhiko’s affection being too subtle. What was shown in the drama doesn’t really show how in love he was. I needed the director to add in some subtle facial expressions from Kikuhiko, or side/longing glances here and there.
Production:
I want to praise the makeup department. The gradual aging of Kikuhiko is amazing. The amount of grey hair, wrinkles, and age spots showing up throughout Kikuhiko’s life is so realistic. The sets look realistic, and costumes are beautiful and era-appropriate. I was really transported back to the 1930s with the characters and their rakugo, and was taught a very valuable and interesting history lesson.
This drama is definitely not for everyone but I whole-heartedly recommend it especially if you enjoy learning about new cultures and history. But if you don't, this might be quite boring for you during the storytelling times. However, I was caught off guard by how much I enjoy the world of rakugo and the interesting characters and relationships in “Descending stories: A Life in Rakugo”. I will remember the amazing acting by the cast, and the acting while storytelling for a long time.

It was okay, I enjoyed it, but it wasn’t great either
I think Bi Wen Jun is as beautiful as he is a good actor, but Wu Xuan Yi who plays the fml, Zeng Li, is eh to me. I am not sure if it’s her acting or the script itself but something about her just didn’t sit right. But because I could stare at Bi Wen Jun all day, the show survives LOL.I will say I did love Liu Te as Deng Hao Ran to the point I wanna watch him as the main lead again. I really enjoyed his and Ma Yi Yi’s romance. It was fun and cute. I wasn’t expecting them to be exs already and IDK if it was needed, but it didn’t detract from their romance either even though I am not a huge fan of second chance romance.
The biggest issues with the show are:
- Zeng Li friendship dynamic is great BUT I hated that near the start when they all are talking about her being into him and she asks if they think he’s into her, they basically laugh and call her average. I know friends joke and tease, but that scene landed poorly and left a bitter taste for me.
- The set up for Yu Yi. The show info dump about him and Zeng Li in episode 13 which is more than halfway. It would have been better if his importance and the crush were properly weaved in at the beginning. It is hinted barely but because we don’t really learn much about him until over half way and she is talking about how she has been waiting for him, it almost felt like she was “cheating” on the ML or that her feelings have been “fake”.
- In the intro Zeng Li trips off the ladder and knows down like 5 rows of bookshelves which was already ridiculous because she’s not even 100LB but she can push down a shelf of books that weighs at least double her? never mind the fact that those shelves should be nailed or secured down somehow. I know this is minor, but then they go and have her push it down AGAIN in her book AND in the proposal scene, and I truly hated it lol.
- How **did he know** about the scene she wrote in the book? Was she posting them online? Did it get published? They never say.
- I am not sure if it’s the translation, but I hated how Africa is just this “country”. Africa is a whole continent, could they not have just picked a country for him to go to? It felt a bit passively racist.
- Liu Yu Cheng was a cute character but his relationship with Wu Ying was pretty frustrating. I don’t think she was fair to him at allll. I am glad she figures it out in the end though.

*chaotically good* energy from both main leads
Momose Shu is so in love with his sister in law he marries another woman as to reduce the concern of his family about his single-ness. Okado Akiha agrees to help her grandmother keep her shop but then also falls in love with him and tries to help in any way she can. While this show was enjoyable, I think Momose Shu spent too much time thinking about Miharu (his SIL). While I get that was the starting premise, I think the framing and just overall “love” for her on his part was played for too long. Yes, it’s nice to show him as a loyal lover but it messes with the romantic balance between him and the actual *love interest*, Okado Akiha. Thus the 7 romance rating. Honestly, I could even make it a 6 but I think the ending was pleasant enough so whatever.
I am glad Miharu ended up not divorcing Asahi, but I think during that time is when Momose Shu should have let her go properly.
I enjoyed how Okado Akiha’s fan admiration for Maruzono Fumi played out. And, I liked Mamiya Shoko’s as well as Makihara Yuito’s characters. Mamiya Shoko was very much the viewer in how she interacted with the main leads but her choice to suddenly want to be with Momose Shu for a hot second after already rejecting his original proposal was kinda random. I think it was just for her to “align” with Makihara Yuito but I don’t think it was needed at all.
Makihara Yuito was a cutie. Because of how DUMB Momose Shu was for much of the show, I was honestly rooting for him and I don’t think I have ever rooted for the SML before LOL.
Anyways, it’s not a show I will hold dearly but I did enjoy the ride for what it was overall.

Who hasn’t told a white lie or three?
Yu Cheng En is in **Love in the Clouds**. He plays a pitiful prince caught in an unrequited love. I actually really loved his acting in it which led me here to this show. It’s contemporary and his role is entirely different, but it felt like a nice bandaid to see the actor find love in this show lol.The premise of the show is not bad, but the starting execution is pretty cringy. I think the timeline/flashback actress also adds to the chaos of it all. Bai Xiao Duo is a compulsive liar due to her childhood but now that she is in college she is *trying* to lie less. Of course she has already told like 3 bald-face lies within her first 3 days on campus. The part that makes it confusing and weak plot wise? Her motivation and savior is Black (Su Yan Cheng) the author of this comic that gives her hope and want to not lie. But this guy is only three years older than her…The flashbacks feel like 10 years ago rather than 3 which is a small detail but where I think the show gets held back. I find it hard to believe Black was publishing at 15 years old, and if he was, they should have addressed it in the show. That said, it sounds like he started publishing in college so the flashbacks should have been more recent…I know this feels like a nit but this small choice made the show feel a lot more juvenile than it should have been.
I actually think the themes and messaging were great. Who hasn’t told a white lie or three? But the *intention* of the lie does matter.
Bai Xiao Duo lied to a bully to get out of being hurt, I don’t think it makes sense that she was suddenly labeled a liar by her whole school. I wish they showed her lying a bit more than just twice. Maybe even her lying to her dad about her being “okay.” On the other hand, I wish they also explored Su Yan Cheng’s lying of his own. The elephant in the room is never really addressed – he lied by omission every day about who Black is. I am glad He Rui kind of mentions it to him, but it was specific to his parents’ wanting him to study abroad. Basically, I think the theme about lying and lies was nice and actually pretty great, the execution could have been better. Also, not a huge deal because I didn’t care too much, but the psychology research aspect made no sense to me LOL I don’t get how Su Yan Cheng conducted anything with the three pieces of information he got from Bai Xiao Duo. Another nit, but I think they could have chose a better English title for this show.
Romance wise, it was fun. I loved how they go from acquaintance to friends to lovers. While I love childhood friends to lovers and enemies to lovers, there’s something so real and relatable to a more organic romance between “strangers”. He was the cliche cold/silent brood and she was the cliche bubbly gal (but with a past).
He Rui was a great secondary lead in that I am SO GLAD they didn’t make her hate Bai Xiao Duo for liking her crush. That story choice alone was a 10/10.
I also just have to say I LOVED the romance between the secondary leads – Xiao Yang and Lin Xiao Miao, they were sooo cute. Yu Shu Bo and Yu Shu Fen were eh for me as a secondary couple just because I don’t think the romance was very well set up on his side, but I did like both of their characters as people. Lastly, I wish we got to better explore the dynamic between Su Yan Cheng and his parents. It’s nice that his parents listen to him finally, but it felt a bit too sudden and convenient. The dad is literally yelling at him about studying abroad but then two days later he’s in a cooking apron while his wife says they are okay with Su Yan Cheng staying in China. I am glad he gets that “happy ending” with his parents but it just felt too rushed that it wasn’t as satisfying as it could have been.

The worst bl drama I’ve watched
Even though I liked the actors and the actor’s chemistry I can’t ignore how misogynistic and stereotypical this series was. The idea that your worth depends on what you are born as, resembles old stereotypes between men, women, and minorities that we are trying to reject. I know it’s fictional but as à woman this “omega verse” it offends me. It also felt emotionless for some reasonEsta resenha foi útil para você?

Turn your brain off and enjoy a cliche but sometimes creative rom-com
This show is great in a lot ways with the first and foremost being that once the main leads get together they don’t have a dramatic misunderstanding and breakup. It was also pretty relatable overall for two college students navigating love and their first romantic relationship. It was super cute watching Gu Wei Yi search up how to woo a girl and later researching sex so that it’s better than their fail of a first time - which again, super cute and relatable. I have watched shows with Lin Yi before and he grows on me more and more each show. His acting is kind of like Miles Wei where you don’t really consider the skill of his acting at first because the roles are lowkey and the “same” ML vibe. But when I think about it, I do enjoy his acting a lot. Xing Fei also did a great job playing the chaotic cute Si Tu Mo. I appreciated that Momo was not just this 1D character. She was made to be silly, not so serious with friends, but when she was at work even at a job she didn’t like, she was smart and thrived. I liked that Tu Jie Er didn’t end up being some kind of romance rival even though they were in the past. I appreciated their work friendship. As for Xie Yu Yin [Gu Wei Yi's senior], I’m not sure if it was the script or the acting, I just didn’t get her character. I did like that her crush was relatively harmless overall, but it just felt a bit stilted in terms of her clearly pining for a taken man. It made sense for before the relationship happened, but it was so weird to watch her be in his space as a taken man. I will say, it gets a pass more for how well they wrote Gu Wei Yi brushing her off. As I think on it, I guess she was there to play a jealousy card for Momo since Momo had a "situationship" with Fu Pei for so long. Anyways, all of that was better executed than the very unnecessary character Anna in Germany lmao. The show would have been stronger without using a red herring misunderstanding breakup. The main drawback of this show was Fu Pei & Wang Shan. Wang Shan as a character I actually really liked. And even Fu Pei, I hated him, but by the end of the show, I didn’t mind him. However, the romance between the two felt absolutely failing. I usually feel it might be a subtitle translation issue, but I don’t think that is the case here. I think Fu Pei was truly too fickle of a character. He was literally yearning for Momo for so long but then suddenly is in love with Wang Shan? And we are supposed to just believe it because he said it? I don’t feel like he showed his romance at all. I think they thought him studying with her all the time instead of playing basketball was supposed to show his devotion, but it really didn’t. Plus, in the end, what exactly is his start up? And I just didn’t like his script. It really felt like he just likes how useful Wang Shan is in his life rather than romantic love.

I'd rather watch this than LR? ?♀️
I don't think this show was for me. I feel that this type of story is also a little dated? Which is highly ironic when you consider that they are trying to make a “modern” historical costume drama.
This show just feels so tone deaf in today's climate, an ultra wealthy CEO marrying the Regent of the monarchy she occupies???
There is so much product placement everywhere, and they don't even attempt to work it in naturally. It's been like 10 years since I've seen product placement this hamfisted. All that money and the show is still a little disappointing.
I feel that if they could have held off on the wealth flaunting for a couple of scenes then more could have been done to develop the things I had the most issues with.
The FL's relationship with her father and brother.
She's an illegitimate child who “caused” the death of her fathers legal wife. He neglects and resents her for most of the show and that is what pushes our FL to see herself as always in competition with people who think she is inferior due to the circumstances of her birth.
This backstory is what fuels almost all of her actions… but it's REALLY underdeveloped. There's like one scene where her dad is all like “you were such a greedy child and I was terrified of you!” but then we see the same interactions from her pov and it's all sad cuz her daddy doesn't love her or give her attention…
That's kind of it.
I get that we've only got 12 episodes to work with but I feel that fat could have been trimmed in so many areas. When the FL and ML go to meet her father now he's being all gruff but caring out of nowhere. His change in demeanor only came about because the FL is getting married. She calls him out on it and then never really questions the change in behavior. It just seemed off to me.
The villains are dumb as hell.
I think that this show had some of the worst villains I've seen in a while. None of their plans really work and they try to assassinate people the same way multiple times. They know that the ML has something on them and has ALWAYS had it, but instead of wondering why he didn't use his advantage they just keep trying to kill him over and over in the most obviousand tracable ways. Do they just hope and pray that no one will investigate the DEATH OF THE REGENT OF THE NATION???? The ML's SIL/2nd FL pissed me off so bad, what a great actress.
The Wardrobe.
I don't usually comment on the outfit in contemporary dramas, but I think it was just such a missed opportunity to be more creative with blending traditional Korean garb with more modern influences. Going into the drama I thought I'd be getting something like Vixx's stage outfits during the Shangri La era. Most older characters/ staff are just wearing regular hanbok, and our ML occasionally wears a shirt with a flowing belt made with the most uncomfortable looking fabric, he had a fan in that one scene tho. That was cool.
The 2nd ML. omfggghh
Another victim of the lack of runtime. Dude has like two flashbacks of him helping the FL and we're supposed to assume they are like bosom buddies. He's at least known her since high school… All of the leads in this show are played by GROWN ass people in their 30's. If you assume the Characters are of a similar age, then the man had spent the last DECADE beating around the bush with a woman who has NEVER expressed any romantic interest in him. YET, he is willing to KILL people later just so he can have her. Mind you he proposes earlier in the story and the FL rejects him IMMEDIATELY! It's insane, he's so obviously sinister and dumb right up until the very end. Grown man acting like a jealous teenager with no impulse control.
I feel like someone somewhere wanted to make a point about class stratification… but they didn't understand that would be extremely difficult when our FL is a billionaire with enough money to fund the crown herself. So they talk about abolishing the crown and royal line instead at the end outta nowhere??? It's whack idk.
This can all be ignored, the romance was pretty cute, and I do think that IU had good chemistry with Byeon Woo Seok. BWS still hasn't completely convinced me that he's a generation talent like some people say.
I think I genuinely would have enjoyed this show more if someone with a similar demeanor to Seo In Guk was our ML.
It was fine, I can see the vision, it just needed to use its time a little better.
I just wasn't the target demographic.

Surprisingly, They Stuck the Landing
Spoilers - I can't bang on freely without sharing some secrets.Firstly, the actors were appropriately beautiful and handsome.
Im Ji Yeon has this ability to be quite disarmingly normal looking when needed and then stunning for modeling scenes. Also, her character has an amazing maniacal laugh & smile - most notable when drinking. So fun.
Heo Nam Jun initially presents as very cool and classy but has some very cute facial expressions as his character starts to let his feelings out.
Props to how menacing they made the villain Choi mun Do. I mean, he had a great smile and was handsome enough but there was just something off about him. was it make-up? Or was his teeth slightly grey? i don't know but he definitely had a sinister aura about him.
This show really started off well. It was very fun to watch. The characters have great personas and interacted so well together.
The comedy of their meeting and early interactions was on point. I enjoyed Sin Seo-Ri's attitude and how she was presented early on as this fun, larger-than-life personality - getting memed and becoming an influencer.
I like how Cha Se-Gye Was locked in and focused on perusing her quite early. Then she initially came around pretty quick too. I did have an issue with Sin Seo-Ri being hot and cold towards him, even after she knew her feelings but this is a K-Drama staple.
I would've liked to see more fighting from her as she initially pitched herself as this anti-assassination savant, Joseon baddie but then ended up being quite reactive and ultimately getting caught herself.
The scene where she was keeping him distant but then had an instant meltdown when she found him in cardiac arrest on the plane was really well done and entertaining. I laughed out loud. I must say, they really leaned into the slapping in this show and I'm here for it. It's like their love language. The fact she got electrocuted too was perfect.
I loved how the music was used in the show. The delicate lighthearted piano intro of Losing My Heart playing throughout the episodes as they slowly got to know each other was used diabolically, building to crescendo as the white truck of death plowed into the restaurant. So good. So devastating. Props to the writers for making it a white truck. Classic K Drama. Everyone knows it; everyone respects it.
The latter episodes we're a bit hard to get through when Seo-Ri was always gloomy with her anticipated departure. Having said that, when she did go back, I liked how it played out very much. Point's for Cha Se-Gye who in hindsight recognised her depressed lack of response to his enthusiasm and treated it with compassion instead of recrimination.
Also in the latter episodes, it wasn't clear to me what was happening with the 'soul shifting' and had to go to the comments section and then watch the episodes again to understand it. Ultimately it was cleared up with the scene in the water where the souls are swapped but before then, I was scratching my head.
Endings like this always feel a bit deus ex machina to me - like Alchemy of Souls where the happy ending was nothing to do with the leads agency and entirely up to Jin Seol-Ran's decision to depart etc. but in this case, even though Seo-Ri was in limbo, I could get into the idea that Cha Se Gye remembered her coming back to save him in his past life and called her back. That was a great way of handling it. Then what I always like to see - the leads working together to solve that dramatic tension - in this case, the Choi Mun Do arc. I almost feel sorry for him.
As an aside, I really enjoyed seeing Lee Se Hee again after Young Lady and Gentleman, a show in which I really enjoyed her acting & character but thought overall it wasn't great. I'm looking forward to seeking out more of her past and future works. She really nailed it here.
In summary, A++. I always judge a show by how much I am enjoying myself while watching. A happy ending isn't very satisfying if you have to grind through 8 episodes of unhappy trauma to get there. In this case, I enjoyed watching at least 90% of it.
A simple trope handled in a fun and clever manner.
