Is it possible to love Shen Li and Xhing Zhi despite watching several hundred dramas?

I do not review any series, films or programs. I watch it, evaluate it and move on. I'm not Asian, but I'm fascinated by culture, both Chinese and Korean. I've watched several hundred Asian series, so I have some knowledge. After watching American series, it's probably oversaturated with brutal, erotic and very predictable scenes. We have different tastes, different views, we people from Europe or America love what is fresh and beautiful. But back to Shen Li.
I have several favorite Chinese and Korean actors and actresses, and even if they make a lower quality series or movie, I will always watch it, out of respect for their work and commitment. He hadn't met the actors playing the main roles in this series before, I hadn't seen any series with them. Interestingly, the "poster" advertising the series on Viki scared me away because I thought that the main character was too serious for me, and interestingly enough, at that moment, she was even supposed to give up watching this drama. However, I know the work of the author of the novella, I have so far watched all her filmed novellas and I simply love LBFAD. Due to the fact that I have a very distorted taste when it comes to Chinese actors I like, I was afraid that I might just watch it and forget it, so I read the novella. The story is simple, very predictable, but written in such a way that I couldn't stop reading. It is a perfect story for the series, full of emotions, slow pace, but with great verve on the part of the heroine, as well as charming but well-thought-out slowness on the part of the main character. You have to forget that he is a typical male ML, he is definitely a character of someone quite unusual. At the moment of reading, I imagined them like Judy Hops and Nik Bayer from Zwierogrod and that was enough for me. I fell in love with both characters and now I had to face their actors. The story is not cliched, and despite many such reviews, I disagree, I find it fresh, timeless and very fairy-tale-like. When I started watching the series, the character of Shen Li was too energetic, too fast, too arrogant for me, but XHING ZHI was so charming in his slowness that I started searching through the actor's work because he immediately won my heart. And even though many people write that he is too heavy for this role, that he is too fat or too serious, I completely disagree with it. First of all, he's skinny, very skinny to me. Secondly, he has an attractive body structure, because he is a man, not a boy, so he must be tall. Thirdly, she looks perfect in these outfits and has a very interesting interpretation of the character. He is a truly excellent actor and great in this role (it's a pity that some people don't see what Gods look like in American or European productions, they are definitely more powerful and sometimes even obese :)) and they don't fly above the clouds) The chemistry between the characters is perfect, they express themselves complements, and their common dialogues are simply very accurate and give us lightness, sometimes a smile, and sometimes we just want XZ to read Shen Li's thoughts. From the beginning to the end, the series focuses on the main couple, but in the background we have characters from two different worlds, a simply caricatured life in the Kingdom of Heaven and a very hard, full of struggle life in the Kingdom of Immortality, where Shen li comes from. However, it is a kind of romantic comedy, so there is a lot of lightness in it, but don't let that fool you. I shed a sea of tears in several episodes. The music is simply perfect, don't think it's Bach or Chopin, but the recording of this music, the songs and the motifs are just incredibly coherent, and "Blazing Heart" just melts like butter. I still have the ringtone from the song from "LBFAD" on my phone, because in both films I see a lot of tribal elements, ethnic music and fitting into different worlds. The series is sometimes slow, but it is there to prepare us for new emotions, and most importantly, the series has a happy ending and a sweet episode of "life after" all the dramas, which gives a lot of solace to the viewer. This is a series for the viewer, with their needs and emotions in mind. This is not a series for critics, it is something that should be assessed by ordinary viewers and cdrama fans. By then I had already watched several episodes several times. I can't go to the next position because I'm still stuck in the XZ world, Shen LI. The inverted role of a strong woman is only apparent, despite her loneliness in the fight, he complements her with his loneliness in carrying the Three Kingdoms, and even though she is a typical woman of the 21st century, on her own, he gives her care, tenderness and is always there for her, without imposing anything on her. leading the situation. It allows her to be a woman, but it also allows her to be herself. She simply falls in love with him, because who would not fall in love with a handsome ancient god who is willing to freeze the sea for 10 days for his love? Which of us wouldn't want to be carried in our arms like a princess and fed by the man we love? This is a series that touches on women's emotions trapped in the fight for positions in the 21st century, this is a series for men who, even though they want to lock their beloved in a golden cage, must give her freedom, but be there for her and by her side in every situation. That's why I will watch this series not once, but definitely several times and I will come back to it whenever I feel too lonely and too unfeminine. I congratulate the actors on their great roles and I wish everyone to return to this drama with pleasure, but without thinking that it must be an Oscar-winning film. The special effects and the entire setting are very natural, don't expect the animations to be too coarse, everything has its place and level in this series.
That's why I think you can love characters that are so simple, timeless and perhaps predictable, but they touch our hearts so much. :)

Endearing

I find this short series endearing. The story contains or/& mentions bullying, mental issues, homophobia, family issues, crammed within 8 episodes of 30m each episode. Having done this, there are some issues that were left unanswered or unsettled like the confrontation with the father, the vagueness of the 2nd CP's relationship, and the suicide of one of the characters. The series felt rushed to me, or I may be just wanting more.?‍♀️
If you are into jazz, you'll enjoy the pieces played here and the melding of pop and jazz towards the end.
I appreciate the production for a good wardrobe selections and not recycling for other scenes, scene set-up and props.
At first, I made a mistake that one of the main actor is the same one as 8 sense. This series has also same vibe as 8 Sense which I thoroughly enjoyed.
Recommend to any BL genre fans.

It's LEGENDARY. Best of all xianxia I have watched or best of all dramas.

My top 1 wuxia, xianxia drama. (This is my first review after watching 250+ Chinese dramas and so you can imagine how much I like this one)
It's amazingly perfect.
The way the leads are flirting is so cute.
The fights are good.
The emotions are perfectly portrayed or shown. I even cried for some scenes.
There is some comedy. Mostly ML made some fun. It's good.
The OST is amazing. Every background music and all songs are superb.
The VFX is good.
Everyone's acting is good.
For me there is negative in this drama.
My rating 10/10 ❤️❤️❤️
I also gave rating to each episode separately with 10 points.
If it is possible I would give more than 10 rating, that's how much I liked this drama.
.....................................................................................................................................................................................

I want to beat the director or writer of this drama. They are so cruel. How can they do this to us.
How can they end this so amazingly perfect drama. I want this drama with 60 episodes or more than 60.
??????I'm missing this drama. I don't want this to end.

Also, Zhao Li Ying (FL) is amazing and so cute as usual. She is 36 but she still looks like a teenager for me. Her acting is amazing. Also, she is the executive producer to this drama. I want more of her dramas same as this. ❤️❤️??❤️‍?❤️‍?

The purpose of the story is depicted in a beautiful style. elegant story.

A beautiful simple story. every one doing best work for charish the drama. story concept is simple with motive but created and directed this drama with creativity. Good wishes. The purpose of the story is depicted in a beautiful style. To express your thoughts in a new way, the inner beauty of a person is more meaningful than the outer beauty. The story and its motive were simple but it was filmed in such a new style that it became a better story in itself. The director and everyone did a very good job. i really like this drama. Good wishes to all this drama members.

Best Xian Xia of 2024

I first read the original novel 与凤行 a few years back and it was one of the best plot lines I had read. I was so glad to hear it being made into a series and it did not dissappoint. You can tell there had been alot of attention to details through out the whole series that just screams quality and care. In particular I was really impressed by the wire work done to fly the actors around, it was quite a realistic depiction compared to some others I've seen.

Beautiful cinematography, very angsty, love-hate relationship

This mini drama is about the female lead who is married off to the enemy’s kingdom as a peace treaty. After three years of hell in the palace, she manages to escape. With tons of injuries, a man uses his medicine skills to heal her, in the process changing her face. Just when she thinks she is safe and sound, her husband (the male lead) shows up and thus their cat and mouse game begins.

POSITIVE:
- 100% angst vibes.
- Love-hate relationship.
- Face swap trope.
- Villain/morally grey male lead (basically a total red flag).
- Beautiful cinematography.
- Cat and mouse game between the leads.
- Soft, beautiful and strong-willed female lead.
- Selfless second male lead.

NEGATIVE:
- Very dark vibes, definitely not for the faint hearted.
- Not much soft and sweet romance.
- Male lead who is perhaps too dark which makes it harder to ship him with the female lead.

OVERALL:
If you are looking for a very angsty, love-hate relationship with a morally grey male lead and beautiful cinematography, watch this drama.

The Impossible Heir

I am surprised that Wedding Impossible got a better rating than the Impossible Heir.

This is a good series, if you watch each episode attentively. My observation and opinion of the series.

The story does not drift from its themes.
There is a reason for the main characters forming a friendship. Their lives had similar beginnings.

The FL's character portrays that she is not one to be swayed by her emotions. She does not show how vulnerable she really is. She is unaffectionate, and does not depend on any of the male leads. No one can guess what she is thinking or feeling. Hence, her team leader disliked her, because he could not read through her. (This gives the viewers an understanding of her personality) This is probably why her acting is criticized.

Male lead, Tae-ho. Character portrays that he is naive but strong. He is strategic, but desires nothing. Everything to him is about survival.

Other male lead, In-Ho. His character portrays that he wants acknowledgement. Viewers are already introduced to his attention seeking personality in the first episode (stealing and bulling) yet his attempts still does not get him the acknowledgement he wants. Furthermore, his insecurities arouses his jealousy of Tae-Ho. His friend should stay below him. This is also introduced in the first episode (0.1% in the national mock test exam)

All the supporting actors were good at their roles, especially Kang In-Ho's sister. Loved it.

Music, I really don't pay attention to music in series.
I never rewatch any series I've already watch.

Overall series. Like every story, this has themes, climax, and a thoughtful ending. This is a good series. Watch it on Disney Channel to perceive it yourself :)

NOPE!

I started skipping entire episodes after watching the first two, so out of 10, I watched only four. The only redeeming value of the production is that the actors did their jobs well. I can't blame them for the shite script.

It's just a stream of cliche characters who are mostly presented in an over-the-top-slap stick comedy kind of way...I might have liked it when I was 14.

The FL character is a total 'b'...the way she treated the people around her made it impossible to feel any sympathy or empathy toward her.

The ML character deserves to be in an intelligently written series, this sea of backwash is undeserving.

I'm quite disappointed that it is getting the ratings that it is as it will encourage companies to produce more of this tripe...

I will not recommend, I will never attempt a re-watch let alone a full watch.

While it is hilarious to watch "Mob" try to avoid all the traps that living in the BL world sets for him, I am glad that the series ends after four episodes -- it's exhausting. But that's kind of the point, right?
The tropes quickly come one after the other, and the whole drama is very fast-paced.

I loved all the side couples and the couples in the background. Also the parents really are the epitome of "mob"!

There is one, maybe a minor, point I did not like:
* I don't understand why "Mob" is so desperate to avoid a romance storyline -- I get it in the beginning, when he's reading about "Meriba"-endings, which I wouldn't like for me either, but after a while it just feels a bit homophobic, especially as he doesn't want his little brother to end up with a guy too! I wish we'd get a better explanation for that. As it is, the whole thing feels a little off for me especially regarding the ending, which kind of comes out of nowhere.

Recommended, if you need a laugh and if you know a lot of BL tropes.

Will Justice prevail?

Nowadays, Korean dramas are centering around heartbreaks and hardships. The latest installment is Cha Eun Woo starrer Wonderful World. The story explores the pain of a parent after losing a child.

The story starts with a happy chapter, unfurling the wonderful world of Soo Hyun who is busy adoring her miracle child Geon Woo, and her supportive husband Kang Su Ho. She is a psychologist and also is busy warming up to the success of her new book. But her wonderful world crashes as her son dies in a hit-run accident. Immersed in grief and guilt the mother ends up killing the perpetrator as he was spared of punishment. As Soo Hyun is convicted of murder., she secludes herself from her remaining life and drives her husband away.
Enters another chapter of the story, Seon Yul who works multiple part-time jobs to make a living. He encounters Soo Hyun in jail where he offers voluntary service. His character builds the suspense that is responsible for the smooth running of the story.

The story was built on a strong plot. However, the director failed to hold the narrative. The inclusion of impossible coincidences and pathetic twists is responsible for ruining the story of 5th episode. The addition of political villains seemed unnecessary as it dragged the title away from its theme. The caricatured villains do nothing but spoil the game of every commoner like they have been doing for every drama. Constant flashbacks and a prolonged '90s scene seemed to have been elongated without any entail. Creating obvious villains is responsible for sprawling the game.

Kim Nam Joo's portrayal of a bereaving mother- oscillating between fury and numbness is the sole survivor of the tale. Her journey from a happy mother to immersed in pain got lost behind a thin plotline. The series failed to decipher her acting spree. Cha Eun Woo - it is good to see the beautiful face of K-pop trying a new genre this time. After his venture into the Island, his enactment of Seon Yul was quite a challenge. He delivered his best shot to date but it seemed luck was not in his favour.

It is really disappointing to watch such a solid cast show drifting apart due to poor direction and cinematography. It is just another series embroiled in a loose storyline and loose narrative.

It’s A Heartfelt And Emotional Series In All The Best Ways.

This was a really strong series. The acting was some of the best I’ve seen in a k-drama. The blend of emotional, comedic and dramatic scenes were balanced really well. This balanced tone is often difficult to achieve or sustain in a drama but it’s done to a high quality here. The presentation of mental health, therapy and recovery were explored in a heartfelt and accessible way. I also liked the dark fantasy/supernatural fairytale element to it. The illustrations and narrative metaphors were woven quite expertly throughout. I don’t often comment on cinematography but not only was this shot beautifully (lighting, camera angles etc), but the artistic vision of the director shone through. I noticed whenever a character was in a solitary shot, it’s juxtaposed with the wider background/atmosphere which not only helps to create the feeling of loneliness but it also allows the story to breathe. In the close up shots, the use of the wider lens allows it to feel intimate without feeling claustrophobic.

The twist…because it was somewhat revealed in episode 4, I didn’t realise they were trying to hide it from the audience or have it be a twist until episode 13. I spent the majority of the series knowing who it was. This affected how I followed the story (in a good way) as I interpreted the actions in real time how they were meant to be interpreted later on after the reveal.

Warm and refreshing

Late to the party but this was so good to binge-watch!

This is a story you never knew you needed to see. There's so many new perspectives I took away after the last credits roll. It's a new combination: deafness, a child of deaf parents without the disability and time travelling to the past. This unexpected mix is thoroughly refreshing and unexpected.

More than just the mystery behind who and why while fulfiling the true mission of travelling back in time, the heart of the story is actually family. Yi Chan and his grandma. Eun Gyeol and young Yi Chan. Eun Gyeol and his parents in the present. Cheong Ah and her dad (even though we didnt get as much of him as I would like).

Eun Gyeol's story was very heartwrenching and moving at the same time. Who would have thought that the one who hears and speaks in a family where everyone else is deaf, is lonely and felt left out? At the same time he puts a lot of pressure on himself, taking every burden himself and not really sharing his thoughts and feeling. His POV tugs at your heartstrings but its the opposite side of it thats really eyeopening. I wont divulge further to not spoil it.

Choi Hyun Wook's Yi Chan really stole the show. He has this vivacious charm and boundless energy. He draws you in to his character and makes you cheer for him, his dreams and his youth.

If you havnt watch it back while it was airing, like me, its not too late. Put aside 16h for a wonderful story.

Not bad until the end...and maybe if you think to hard about it.

Watched this whole series in one sitting and just came here to review. So everything is very fresh in my mind.

TLDR: If you're watching this for the GL aspect - its good! Lots of cute kisses. I thought both main actresses were pretty and cute and both acted well~ the side characters were fun and got their own little time to shine. There are weird plot holes and things they could have left out, but if you're desperate you can easily overlook them. The antagonist ( not Fuyu, the angry boss lady ) was SOOO good at being horrible, I HATED her lol.

Surface level it was a good fun watch until the last episode...the weird whiplash of "they're together - they aren't - but I don't want to leave you - but bye - but...hi?" iykyk. Kind of ruined it all for me. I left frustrated. They could have done something MUCH better with the last 10 minutes than emotionally play with the viewers. Everything was already wrapped up in a bow, the two leads were going to be together. The husband wasn't treated well anyways, and he obviously wasn't happy in the situation. I just hated all the weird stuff at the end of the last episode. If you want to save yourself some heart ache or frustrated tears, stop watching at 15:50 ( on gaga ).

MAJOR SPOILERS:

Things I LOVED:

- I loved the parallels from the game character they are working on to the actresses clothing in the series. Itsuki always in white like the character pictured and Fuyu always in black. When their relationship is good they both start to wear a heavy mix of black and white. Then when things go down hill they are back to their solid colors. Really fun thing to notice~

- I loved that the father was a stay at home dad, he seemed like a good person. And I just love this representation of a father like this.

- Fuyus "Itsuki voice" I thought it was SO CUTE how alone Fuyus voice would get cute and high pitched with Itsuki.

Things I didn't like:

- That they didn't give the husband a "standing up for himself" moment. There was a really big opportunity here and they just DIDNT...sigh...

- The boss lady suddenly confessing that she liked Fuyu. She can JUST be a mean boss lady, like its fiiiine. Sort of pointless if you ask me.

- Aoyama trying to give the pictures back ^^ same scene as this - the whole scene didn't need to be there. lol

- The reason that Itsuki broke up with Fuyu and HOW she did it in the past. Just didn't feel very thought out. I understand the scary pressure of a parent coming to ask you something like that, but...no threats? No money needed? It just didn't feel like enough incentive for her to completely break Fuyus heart. Also hated the whole cold scene where she pretends to be with Aoyama, felt very off...I dunno...

- Nitpicky, but the fact that they had one ( maybe two?) outfits in all of the flash backs. We are suppose to assume they were together for FOUR YEARS ? and all we get are two outfits and flashbacks from a few days of college. I know they had time restrictions or money restrictions, this doesn't seem to be a huge project. But they could have asked the girls to bring a few change of clothes from their own closet to at least make it feel like more time was passing.

- Making Fuyu literally CLULESS when her husband leaves. Like girl, you are 27, you're telling me you never cooked one meal? You drink milk every night, you NEVER made yourself a glass of milk? I dunno - felt like a littttttle to much, I was sort of getting annoyed at her. But I know they were trying to portray how out of the loop in her own home she was...

- The whole ending but...you already knew that lmao.

While there are some nice moments of drama, comedy and fights in this xianxia drama, I found it far too long and repetitive to make a profound impact for the audience who is looking for more than its romance story. Its generic plot and characters are somewhat shocking to me given the caliber of actors in the cast. Shen Li and Xingzhi, aside from their romance, do not undergo much development or growth in their characters. Some of the supporting roles and side/guest roles are far more distinctive in their growth such as Furong and Youlan as they become true leaders of the Divine Realm/Clan - or just more interesting such as the former god Qingye and Lady Jin.

Zhao Liying and Lin Gengxin are skilled enough actors to make their story work - I especially enjoyed the first several episodes in the mortal realm. The rest of the cast are great with what they are given to work with, but don't expect any deeper themes to be woven into the story that would stand out compared to some of the better xianxia dramas in the past several years. If you are a fan of the actors and xianxia, this is still worth a check, but it is unfortunately more of the same in my opinion.
