My crude and boorish nemesis!

What a disappointment this K-drama is!

1. What annoys me most is Im Ji Yeon’s dreadful portrayal of Sin Seo Ri. It’s almost unbearable! There is nothing, absolutely nothing, regal about her demeanour. It seems as though she and/or the director have read the script for Mr. Queen and implemented it in the most wretched way possible in this role. The way she walks, sits, laughs and drinks – it’s more reminiscent of the exaggerated portrayal of a drunkard in women’s clothes than of anything ‘royal’.

2. Sin Seo Ri’s adjustment to the modern world – or rather, the lack of any adjustment. She’s a bit taken aback by the “metal palanquins”; she feels a bit queasy for a moment because of the speed… that’s it. On a plane, the only thing that surprises her is the lack of legroom in economy class... Sooo bad and so many missed opportunities for comical situations (as in, for example, The Legend of the Blue Sea).

3. The plot hole where, for example, Sin Seo Ri claims she’s never bowed to anyone before… and then the flashback kicks in. I mean, how many writers worked on the script, and did they even consult one another? Nothing fits together, and neither the director nor the actors noticed this during filming? Or is it simply indifference towards the audience and their own work?

4. The story is crammed full of predictable clichés, and Cha Se Gye’s behaviour towards Sin Seo Ri is so utterly implausible that actor Heo Nam Joon’s lack of facial expression hardly matters anymore.

This production of ‘My Royal Nemesis’ is a real waste of what is essentially a good idea with so much potential. And perhaps this frustration is the reason for my somewhat harsh criticism.

Edit: I dropped this drama now, because I couldn't stand it any longer.

IMO NOT EVEYONE'S CUP OF TEA

firstly, this drama has been on my watchlist for so long and heard it is quite popular modern cdramas and is recommended by many
i started it randomly on sunday afternoon with the thought that i would not be able to binge once the week starts but the drama was insanely good that all ive been doing was binging it
this has not been the cliche youth idol drama but also carried dark and mature themes of their love story
i like how drama starts with their present situation and draws audience's attention while making them wonder how did things fall apart
li xun is definitely not the standard green flag character but is actually so cold and extremely stoic. all he wanted was to protect his mom and sis after the demise of his father but failed miserably both the times. life has been cruel to him but him being a technical prodigy - he put his skills to the best use in order to move forward in his life.
zhu yun is the definition of princess that had an amazing life sorted out by her mom but against her will from the beginning. like she mentions although she was made to study cs by her mom but it was li xun who challenged her and pushed her to extremes which made her feel passionate about coding.
they have natural and effortless chemistry. they were so buzzy in their enemies era and goddamn sweet during their lovers era. zhu yun although found him annoying but as she comes to know about his life and subtly good things that he does , she starts falling for him. tickling is his love language and they're truly each other's lighter and princess. they light up each other's world.
her love language being repairing his lighter and his being gifting her a princess dress.
li xun had known her for a very long time when infact she had been kind to offer him an umbrella and they were truly destined to meet again in the same class.
coming to the angst part - both of them nailed the acting down to perfection. grief can change people a lot and i think li xun loses himself and the shred of sanity that he has left in him. he loves zhu yun so much that he feels letting her go is the only way to keep her safe and not suffer along with him.
zhu yun never left his side or their memories tbh as she still reminisces it even after 3 years. i dont find her obsession to be unhealthy as she was not literally behind him and was not planning to stay back though she saw he was released. the initial trigger for her to legit stay back was due to gao and zhijing ruining l&p.
i feel moreover they did not have perfect closure although they spoke in the jail so they do still have feelings for eo (coz we must not forget they dated for around 3 yrs and we were robbed off of that dating phase) and they must be grateful to eo as they were each other's safe place once. their connection has been so deep and strong.
i feel this drama has lot of repeat value and their eye acting was also impeccable. li xun and zhu yun are just two strong people who fit like jigsaw puzzle pieces and believe in each other's ability. this drama wrecked me with lot of emotions.

Perfectly imperfect: Its flaws are real, but its heart is undeniable.

This series is a beautifully flawed masterpiece with a very sad ending!

The main romance felt a bit rushed due to Hao Ting’s quick change of heart, and the second couple's age gap was deeply bothersome (for me).
Yet, the incredible chemistry and phenomenal acting overshadow these flaws, delivering a raw, unforgettable emotional ride.

Watch it now!!!

I honestly don’t know why I waited so long to watch Healer, especially since I’m such a huge fan of Ji Chang wook. I saw it was leaving Netflix and thought, now or never, and I’m so glad I finally watched it because I absolutely LOVED it.

It had everything, romance, action, suspense… and of course Ji Chang wook’s smile. The story kept me hooked from beginning to end, and the chemistry was incredible. The entire cast did an amazing job with their acting, and every character felt memorable.

Definitely one of those dramas I wish I could watch again for the first time and I just finished watching it.

EASILY one of the best k-dramas ever.

"i came up with a name for you."
"for me? my name? what is it?"
"shining voice. i can't hear your voice, but i can see it, i feel it. you shine the brightest when you're doing music, it's when you look the coolest."

words can't express how much i love this kdrama.
it was full of life lessons and it made me realize a lot of things. no matter how much eungyeol tries to stop yichan's accident, it will always be his fate and it's inevitable. it shows that not everything goes the way you want them to be, and we just have to learn to accept that that's how life works. the scene where yichan's grandma finds out he got deaf, and said "i will give you my ears" made me cry so much it hurts. when yichan tried to turn up the volume of the tv and proceed to hear nothing... and when eungyeol was talking and he said, "what are you saying? i can't hear you... i can't even hear my own voice." 😭💔

i love yichan and cheongah's relationship. i wish i saw more of their past life (without eungyeol's time travelling) like how they met in college, and fell in love. i also wish i saw their wedding (it would've been cute) and the band as the groomsmen. eunho also deserved more than 5 mins of screentime. honestly, i wish this series was longer! 16 eps wasn't enough.

peak.

"suho-ya, i got into another fight.. i'm sorry."
for me, season 1 >>>> season 2.
however, i do love sieun's constant yearning for suho. baku asking sieun over the phone, "are you home?" and sieun saying 'yes' while he was in the hospital, suho's hospital, never fails to make me tear up. the way sieun always updates suho by messaging him, while he's outside suho's hospital room because of his guilt ruins me every time. the way sieun got a call from the hospital saying suho's in a critical condition left him in uttermost shock and getting into a car accident himself and the first thing he said when he woke up was suho's name, looking for him, and asking for his condition. he was desperate to go to him.

"my friends say it wasn't my fault."
he really needed to hear that from someone, he was so hard on himself to the point that his guilt is practically eating him out alive. he couldn't sleep, eat, and all he did was study. studying, once again, became his coping mechanism. i hate how this season ended, so i hope there'll be a third season wherein sieun and suho will kiss.

the best kdrama ever.

"maybe we were a married couple in our past lives."
just for some people to say that they're just friends.

the way they'd die for each other, the way they find out that the other is hurt and go extreme lengths to hurt the ones who hurt the other, the way they look at each other, the confession that suho made when sieun smiled at him, the way suho taught sieun how to 'fight' but then told him to run instead because he will protect him, the way every scene that shows sieun from behind was suho who had his eyes on sieun before he knew him, the way sieun hunted those who laid hands on suho not caring about his grades, his future, not when his everything is in a coma because of them.

was it all casual?

"you're a psycho, you know that?"
i saw in an interview that this line was their way of saying 'i love you' to each other. and the amount of times suho said this to sieun was immeasurable. i love how it shows how often they said these to each other, and only the two of them understood what it meant.

whatever they had means so much to me, idc what you guys call it but they're definitely soulmates. they're meant to be, and it's fate. they were meant for each other, and they will find each other no matter what.

A Good Drama, but the Supporting Cast Stole the Show

I would rate this drama 7.5/10, mainly because of the female lead and the dialogues. While the story had some good moments, the overall dialogue writing was not particularly strong and often felt underwhelming. The female lead’s acting also did not fully meet the mark for me, especially in emotional scenes. At times, her expressions in sad moments felt exaggerated and came across more like cartoon-like reactions than natural performance. Because of that, the emotional impact was reduced. She definitely has potential, but she needs to improve her acting skills, especially her delivery and expressions in serious scenes, to make her performance more believable.

That said, the secondary characters did an amazing job and brought a lot of charm to the drama. In fact, I found myself liking the second and third couple even more than the main leads. Their chemistry felt more natural, and their scenes were often more enjoyable and engaging to watch.

A familiar plot, beautifully packaged.

Nothing new in the story, characters, and the scenes. It is highly predictable; you can see the next scene, and sometimes even the dialogues, from a few hundred miles away!

It is not at all a bad series, just an incredibly familiar one. Still, it is worth watching (If you want familiar cozy story) and the opening credit is top notch!

I really appreciate Director Ann Pan Seok and his work.

I subscribed to Viu Premium just to watch Director Ahn Pan-seok's work on 'The Midnight Romance in Hagwon'! His directing style, ambient sound design, and acoustic soundtrack choices are pure perfection. Please keep bringing high-quality mature slice-of-life melodramas like this to the platform.
I really appreciate all his drama, the cast and everything. I watched late for the ONE Spring night, then the Something in the rain and now The midnight romance in hagwon. I hope to be able to watch his new drama again.
it all started from ONE SPRING NIGHT. and now I cannot move on. and Please more Jung Have In.
The feeling of " afraid to finished this drama because everything will ended" always haunted me.
Thank you for the excitement you bring.

ABSOLUTELY WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND

This was one of the worst bl's I have ever watched....you would think with these great actors it would be good but no...it was a complete disappointment. I told myself I wouldn't watch it yet decided to watch it. I hate that I did. I waited 4 damn years for this piece of trash? Jeff and Barcode are such good actors but it felt like they were reading off the script while acting. Their acting was so bad in this. their voices were so monotone. This show feels like something a person wrote when they were bored and didn't even read it after. I am sorry but no!

the research wasn't thorough enough making it ignorant at the end. can't believe no one apologized for the misuse of religious beliefs. the acting is just okay, maybe good at some parts. some parts are pretty funny. but because of the misuse of one element are very serious, the watching experience was completely unenjoyable.

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly (of adulthood)

This drama showed me the reality of adulthood, and I guess specifically womanhood. The three women have their own distinct personalities, ambitions, and values in life. (I don't wanna dwell on the men characters because men ain't shit lol)

- Nan Nan is deeply a romanticist. She seemed to me as someone who just ~goes with the flow~, lives in the moment, and cherishes her relationships a lot. She can quite easily connect with others then get attached. This is both her strength and a weakness as well, for she can get caught up or blinded by her emotions.

- Han Han can also be quite romanticist. She is firm on her beliefs, on what she wants and what she deserves. She got caught up with her feelings as well which led her to bend her own principles. Yet, her strong personality shine through. At the end of it all, she loves and respects herself.

- Han Su is practical and realist. If she wants it, she have to get it. Being competent is part of who she is which also both her strength and weakness. She is clear on her goals yet struggles to have a work-life balance. A non-nonsense woman but slowly showed her vulnerablity.

These three (I wanna add Zhen Cheng) are far from perfect but I love how they tried to resolved their own personal shortcomings. This story is a good representation of the people navigating their adulthood in terms of romantic relationships, friendships, career, and identity.

- The Good: Ah, Freedom! Free will at its finest. You can relatively do anything you want, be friends with anyone, and go anywhere.

- The Bad: But better face the consequences of your actions. This liberating feeling of adulthood also comes with great responsibility.

- The Ugly: Life challenges is inevitable. It would really challenge you, it could make or break you. It might even lead you to questionable or painful decisions that you never thought you could do - just to survive in this harsh world.

This drama speaks a lot to me as someone who is having a crisis in adulthood. This brought me comfort, and seemed to tell me "you are not alone."

Exceeded All Expectations: A Truly Worthwhile Watch

Honestly, I didn't have high expectations for this drama at first, but after watching up to this week's episodes, it is absolutely worth it! The acting feels so realistic. Even though JJ still needs a bit of improvisation, everyone is already doing such a fantastic job. I absolutely love how Net and JJ interact; it’s so natural and not cringe from the start. I really love it. Their chemistry is just as natural as Khem and Pheem/Pharan in Khemjira.
