《Spooky in Love》: Proof that Less is More in K-dramas

I have said this before and I will say it again, this is how K-dramas were a decade ago: focus on one genre. Over the last five or so years, we have witnessed how K-dramas become chaotic, even fans cannot agree on what the story was about.

One of the basic rules of writing, especially in fiction, is to focus on one story and one genre. The moment the side plots or plot devices take on an equal status to the main plot, you get lost and drag your audience down with you.

《Spooky in Love》 focused on one genre: romantic-comedy, period. The result? They were able to execute some of the best scenes in global TV history. The side plot remained a plot device and did exactly the purpose it was meant for.

I fully enjoyed this. Truly deserving of a 10 out of 10 from me, YourOnly.One.

A very beginner level drama with top class actors

Genuinely great cast. Love it! Hwang In youp , Lee Hye Ri , Baek Sung chul, Park Ji Young and Lee Sang Yeob. I want to say that with this cast I should've expected more from the drama. But my expectations weren't at all met.

The first episode left me seriously disappointed. There was something missing in the whole drama in my opinion. Most of them had a relation to emotional depth. The second chance, reunion plot needs a lot of emotion, and is hard to get right. The first episode when the leads met, the emotional weight seen at all.
The other missing thing was enough chemistry. The characters seemed like they hadn't changed at all even though half of the scenes were trying to show that they changed after 10 years. It didn't feel like "two lovers in the past reunited again". It felt like two really good besties had a falling out and one of them met each other after a week and reconciled.
Oh, yes, the reconciling part. There was a scene where Woo Su Bin started trauma dumping as to why he didn't see her for 14 days and Ju Yi Jae says "I DON'T CARE" What! What do you mean??!!!!! I was very confused cause the reason was very concerning. Ah, I don't know.
Next, during the 4th episode I think, there was a sudden kiss. I thought that the kiss could turn the emotions around but it didn't work. Had so much hope for that part.

The romance between Chae Sang Ra and Seo In Uk had so much potentianl for a nice ending and it was so beautiful, I seriously expected more from that trope. The reason Chae Sang Ra had for the break up was seriously so dumb. I don't understand why such a nice couple was broken up because of this dumb reason.

Now for the nice parts, this drama was a very beginner level drama. The reason I have so many complaints is because I had so much hope for the chemistry and emotions between the two actors.
But I liked this drama cause of the calm flow. This is a good drama for when you don't want to watch screens too much because of school work and don't want to get absorbed in it. It's best if you just want to pass time or watch something while crocheting or something.
Overall, I'll give it a solid 8. Other than that I just wished it could have been more heart warming in a way.

cliched, underwhelming, and accidentally conservative.

it's been long since i have written a review, and this too is going to be more of a rant so bear with me while i try to make sense of my thoughts. i'll try keeping it comprehensive by explaining the three words in the heading.

- Cliched: from the get go, i felt this show was formulaic so i had no major expectations from it, i just wanted it to serve as a lighthearted weekly palette cleanser. (and i do love ong seongwu as an actor so theres that reason too). but man how it derailed! we brought back white truck of doom, can you imagine that? someone on twitter pointed out that the writer only has projects from 2010s before this drama and you can genuinely see that in their writing. childhood connection, heart transplant, someone turning evil because of jealousy, men-focused pick me 2FL, ML's family asking FL to break the relationship, the show has all the 2010 cliches and more. it's so repetitive and uncreative, each episode in the second half tests your patience.

- Underwhelming: everyone is saying the chemistry was underutilised, but i differ from them -- i did not feel any chemistry between the leads. and these are good actors, great cast, so i dont understand how they cooked such a nothingburger with them. another thing, "spooky" in love. the expectation the first few episodes set is that this is going to be a story of the leads working together solving crimes for the victims who lost their lives unfairly. oh you believed that? how could you? this is actually a corporate power struggle show. ghosts? what about them? did you even see them after the first half? oh btw, bet you want a singapore ad instead, dont you?

- Accidentally Conservative: now i dont think thats the message they deliberately wanted to give, but thats how some of the factors played in this drama. because of yeori's, well, condition, she cant hold hands with anyone. so that makes sense, but somehow all the other romantic choices here were very conservative too. they dont date, they just decide they like each other and get engaged instead. they dont even kiss other than one accidental (eyeroll) and one actual one -- even though they know that wont make him see the ghosts. they genuinely keep their distance at all times, and have 'conservative' dates, with straightaway marriage in mind. i find that so bonkers. how are you two so in love? you havent even gotten to know each other when you got engaged, you just had a crush! but suddenly the tone is all "you are the love of my life"?????

also very weird decision to turn the adopted child into the villain, like yes we all sensed that from early on, but what exactly is the takeaway here? adoptive children grow up to eat the hand that fed them? like the one character said?

all in all, i signed up for lighthearted, timepass romcom, and i got disappointed still somehow. that's it. that's the rant.

Diamond in the rough,

So if i had to explain how i feel about Blue Lips in 5 words or less I would def call it "a diamond in the rough" you can tell that it didnt have the highest budget and it also has quite a few scenes where you can really tell that there was some AI usage, I am fine for now with it. FOR NOW. But if you aren't the biggest fan of usage of AI then skip this if you really cant see past it. If you can see past it i can highly recommend this show, it has two leads with fantastic chemistry. The absolute best part of this show is the relationship between Teng Mo and Wu Shi Xian. They are two broken souls who slowly heal each other, peeling back hidden wounds to find the courage to love again. I loved that the show avoided annoying misunderstandings, sure theres conflicts but misunderstandings in an endless circle wasnt what we got here. Oh what I actually really loved as well was how they used Teng Mo’s adult shop to inject genuine comedy into the plot.

On the downside, the subpar dubbing was a bit distracting at times for me, one of these moments was when Shi Xian was singing on stage. Additionally, the sister's storylines felt incredibly boring, and I constantly fought the urge to skip her scenes. However, I'm glad I stayed patient, as those scenes eventually tied into crucial emotional character moments for Teng Mo later in the series, without spoiling anything.

So, overall, despite the production flaws, the beautiful growth of the main couple makes this a highly rewarding watch. This is most def one im going to rewatch again. If not for the plot in itself, which I will, it will be for the Ice cream scene.

A Master/Servant Relationship that is more than meets the eye

"The Servant Prince" is a very quick and easy binge. It's not what I expected, not in a bad way, but in a different way. The main romance is still there but there's a strong focus on character growth and family dynamic.

Given the title and the subject, I thought it would not be such a chaste drama (Ok, probably coz I am a pervert). The romance is actually very sweet and there's more than just Takaaki obeying Naoya's demands. I just wish they add a few more intimate scenes, esp when Takaaki releases his controlled emotions. They keep on repeating the same flashbacks, and I still don't know why Takaaki is so obsessed with Naoya. I need to know how this master/servant relationship starts from the very beginning.

Since this is an adaptation of a manga, the acting could have been overly dramatic and thank goodness, it isn't. A couple characters are cartoonish but overall, the acting is OK. There are a bunch of lovely co-workers.

In the end, I'm glad to have followed Naoya's journey of healing and growth. It's an interesting way to witness his growth through the development of this master/servant relationship into something beautiful and mature.

A Rom-Com With Just the Right Amount of Spooky

I genuinely had such a good time watching Spooky in Love. It’s a really fun rom-com with a little hint of spooky mixed in, and honestly, that combination worked really well for me.

The chemistry between the main leads was really good. Even without the drama constantly pushing romance in your face, their interactions felt natural and enjoyable to watch. I liked the way their relationship developed, and they had a really comfortable dynamic that made their scenes fun.

What I especially loved was how easy and stress-free this drama felt to watch. There wasn't that constant feeling of waiting for some huge misunderstanding or unnecessary drama to ruin everything. I could just sit back, enjoy the story, laugh at the characters, and actually have fun watching an episode.

And some scenes were SO funny omg. There were moments where I was genuinely laughing at how ridiculous things got. The fact that even the ghosts were getting scared made it even funnier. The spooky elements didn't make the drama feel heavy—they actually added another layer of comedy to it.

Overall, Spooky in Love was just a really enjoyable rom-com with a fun supernatural twist. It made me laugh, the leads had good chemistry, and most importantly, it was never exhausting to watch. Sometimes you just want a drama that lets you relax and have a good time, and this one definitely gave me that.

good overall watch but some parts could be skipped

I finished watching the show, and it is definitely a good watch if you are looking for a romance drama which will give you butterflies. (And you don't have anything else shortlisted) . There's no breakup here and the leads do clear up their misunderstanding before getting together.

Talking about acting the two leads did a good job especially the FL. I found her character very similar to me , in age and point of life so she was very relatable. She is not a all cheerful and bubbly girl but also not too serious. She is fun with her friends, serious when it comes to work, is not afraid to take stand for herself.

The ML is a little bit broody in start but you get it if you know why. He lost his dream job because of an accident has to start from scratch in a new field. on top of that he thinks the FL just played with him. He could have been more direct and cleared things up earlier but it's okay.

The FL 's friends were shitty but realistic. I loved her uncle and aunt and jiang rui.

Maybe instead of Zhuang xu's work-life we could have got more of ML's personal life.

However as many people have already pointed out there are many filler scenes. For eg the first five episodes which show the Fl in college and her misunderstanding with the placeholder SML (he doesn't really give SL vibes) could have been finished in one or two episodes. Song wei long's real entry happens after episode 5 before that he is literally having almost zero screen time.

Also what was the last episode, it was set in 2028 with robots and ai in cars but other parts were not that futuristic, maybe they could have wrapped up with a good family meetup or just at marriage.

China does it again with another BL masterpiece

The story was so good and complete, most of all the beautiful love story and all the preparations Chang Yang made for meeting Qing Lang. But also addressing the toxic shipping culture, the sometimes unreasonable/indecent private expectations of investors(Investor for Han Lu). Companies and actors who use mean tricks and the toxic shipping culture to make money.
And on the bright sight pointing out that there are also good companies like the company of sister Lan, Just being a fair boss and also allowing their actors to date.
The production did amazing!!! Stunning visuals and music!
The smooth transitions between different scenes and stunning cinematography, one of my favorites is the stairwell scene in the beginning of episode 12.
Sound effects can often be too much, but in this drama they were all perfectly placed.
I also liked how everything that was happening on the phone showed on the screen.
Just a small detail, but the mains ringtones are the OST of the drama, love that!
It had love, joy, sorrow, every emotion was felt very intens!

All the actors did a great job, i really hated Xu Luxiao and Shi Yuhao. And my favorite characters besides Qing Lang and Chang Yang are Sister lan, Qing Tian, Grandma and brother Guo, they just left a huge impression on me.
I loved the brother dynamics of Qing Tian and Qing Lang.
Hu Yi Chen is an amazing actor, I loved him in Secrets Happened on the Litchi Island and he was just as amazing in this drama. I hope to see him star in a lot more drama's in the future.

The chemistry of the mains was just out of this world, and they had the best kisses and so much kissing scenes!
The second couple was cute too, their chemistry and kisses were good too.

I already re-watched it and will do so many more times in the future, this became one of my all time favorites.

Worth Watching Purely for Tian Xi Wei

I started watching this series mainly because of Tian Xi Wei. The story begins with young Lin Zhi Xia, who is so exceptionally intelligent that her classmates see her as a weirdo and don’t want to be friends with her. Then she meets Jiang Yu Bai, her first real friend. He’s also a top student, but he’s always stuck in second place, never able to beat Lin Zhi Xia. The child actress who plays young Lin Zhi Xia is incredibly cute and does a great job.

The early part of the story is solid. I felt the middle high-school section dragged on a bit too long, but it was still manageable. Later on, though, it started to feel boring. They only get together in the last two episodes. Tian Xi Wei’s performance is excellent — she’s easily the highlight of the series. She portrays a genius who’s brilliant academically but socially awkward really well. Every little thing she does is adorable. Hu Yi Tian’s acting is just average; sometimes it feels a bit stiff. Their chemistry is pretty mediocre — I barely felt any spark between them. Another strong point is the warm friendship among the group of friends. The coming-of-age elements, life lessons, and the supporting cast in the friend group are all really good. Shen Fu Xuan’s storyline about trying to treat patients is nice, and the part where the FL loses for the first time and gains friends is also well done. The downside of the group pairings is that Tang Ting Ting and Duan Qi Yan feel more like close friends who confide in each other and argue rather than a romantic couple. Jin Bai Hui and Lin Ze Qiu’s relationship also doesn’t develop enough to feel like a proper romance. Shen Fu Xuan’s arc is good overall, but at times it feels a bit excessive.

Overall, This series isn’t outstanding, but it’s not bad either. Tian Xi Wei’s performance is the real highlight. The friendship among the group feels warm and comforting, and it’s nice watching them grow up together. Some of the cinematography is beautiful too. However, the plot in the later part becomes quite boring and then rushes to the end.

10/10 ABSOLUTE MASTERPIECE!!

10/10 ABSOLUTE MASTERPIECE!!
I don't think I've ever come across anything so utterly brilliant, touching, deep and meaningful. I haven't been able to stop thinking about it. It's hard to describe in words - this series is funny, honest, entertaining, confronting, courageous, intelligent, thought-provoking, complex, educational, heartwarming, heartbreaking, compassionate and full of wisdom. All the actors, especially the main leads, did an absolutely amazing job. This goes far beyond entertainment - I think it'll actually help many people heal deep wounds in real life. I couldn't recommend it more highly! Absolute must-watch that is likely to have a positive, valuable, lasting impact. From the bottom of my heart I want to thank and congratulate the geniuses behind it for creating something so extraordinarily special.

‘Match Point’ Is My New Sunday Obsession & Perfect Sync Between the Actors : Broke My Silence

To be completely honest, I didn't plan on watching this series at all in the beginning. When I first saw the trailer, I thought it looked decent and pretty watchable, but it definitely wasn't on my main priority list. Then, on a total whim one day, I found myself with absolutely nothing to watch.

Out of pure curiosity, I was browsing around and suddenly realized that the very first episode was already out.I decided to just give it a shot, and wow, I am so glad I did! Believe me, that first episode alone was more than enough to completely captivate me and hook me right in. I fell so hard for this show that I found myself counting down the days, totally down bad while waiting for the next episode to drop.

The production quality over at GMMTV is upgrading tremendously day by day. I am genuinely blown away by how fantastic their work is becoming.

Before this, I used to actively avoid youthful, slow-burn dramas because I always thought they would be super boring and slow. But then a series called When Oranges Fall came along, and I ended up loving it so much. Now, Match Point has completely shattered my expectations all over again and easily passed my personal standards.

I really didn't expect Ping Krittanun Aunchananun to do this amazingly well in a brand-new environment with a totally new acting partner. His acting has improved by leaps and bounds. In his past work, it sometimes felt like he overdid his expressions just a little bit. But here? He is doing an absolutely incredible job! He adapted to this new stage of his career much faster than anyone could have guessed.

On top of that, the storyline itself is so refreshing, creative, and completely logical.A huge round of applause goes to his partner, Teshow Promsakha Na Sakolnakorn, as well!
He only joined the network recently and hasn't been acting here for a very long time. Even so, both of them did a truly phenomenal job. They act so naturally, and their synchronization on screen together is just perfect. They genuinely deserve so much more attention, love, and engagement from the fans.

I’ll be honest—I wasn’t planning to write a review for this show at first. I was really hesitant because someone recently criticized the way I write my reviews. That negative feedback made me try my absolute best to hold back and avoid writing anything this time.

But I just couldn't help myself anymore! I have loved every single episode from the very beginning.
Every single Sunday has become a day of pure excitement for me because of this drama, and I am going to keep happily waiting for it. After watching this latest episode, I loved it so much that I just had to express my feelings. I tried to force myself to stay quiet, but the show is simply too good to ignore.

To be honest, it gives off Bad Buddy vibes, but it's honestly so much better. It's incredibly cute, engaging, and the production quality and storyline are next level. I love that the characters didn't take ages to realize their feelings! I can’t believe it’s already halfway through—only 5 episodes left and I'm not ready for it to end.

This show is much better than Head2Head because it gives me a very special feeling.
I love the "enemies-to-lovers" theme from the very beginning, I thought it would be similar so kind of skipped but thank god I didn't...
The funny fights between the two fathers are hilarious.
I cannot wait to see how shocked the parents will be when they find out their rival sons are actually dating.
The main characters already understand their feelings and will probably get together after next episode.
Sing Harit Cheewagaroon and Chimon Wachirawit Ruangwiwat look amazing together and have great on screen chemistry. Even a simple hand grab makes them blush like tomatoes, which is incredibly cute...

It is so endearing how obvious Bay's feelings for Sun actually are. He constantly claims to hate Sun, yet he absolutely collapses at the thought of being apart from him. Even though he tries his best to mask his affection, his nervous reactions give him away every single time. His supposed hatred is just a protective shield for how deeply he truly cares. How sweet.

What Happened to the Original Plot?

It felt like the premise was clickbait designed to lure people into watching this drama. The premise gave me Sell Your Haunted House, so I was majorly let down. I have no bad words for Eunbin. She did the best she could with the script she was given. To be honest, I was really disappointed by how melodramatic and unrealistic the second half became, especially for a drama centered around ghosts. This wasn't what I signed up for.

When you misplace the Spooky

For the most part, this was a very interesting series. Unfortunately, the script lost the main aspect of the storyline. At first, it did a great job interweaving the paranormal storyline into the romantic and family drama storylines. It was also successful in setting up the world and characters which got me invested in it. My main gripe is it lost the paranormal aspect in the middle of the series. There were many episodes that you wouldn’t even know this had one. It was a good thing that the other storylines were interesting which prevented me from dropping it. It’s just that when a series is marketed to involve ghosts, it should have ghosts throughout the series. It was very successful in connecting the multiple storylines, event, and characters together in the end. However, I was able to guess the two main plot twists very early on in the series. This did have a very interesting accidental kiss that I’ve seen in years. The cast was great and did an outstanding job. The CGI, special effects, and cinematography were amazing. Although there was wasted screen time due to many flashback scenes, they did get creative at times showing them.

Random Note:

Despite the main weak aspect of the script, I’d watch it again.

UNPOPULAR OPINION

Unpopular opinion:
The drama was good specially and only for the male lead and female and also for the sides characters, and obviously for the villain Situ Ling , i liked very much his story and evolution of his character, written and performed very well.
The story is simple but made well done ,like i said already the serie it was good not much for the dinamics of the history but for more or less all the characters that are inside of the story , specially for the main leads and the villain , because for my personal opinion them have carried on their shoulders all the drama .
It was a relief that in just 36 episode they made a right but a bit rushed ending of all open dynamics inside of the serie ,of course we have a good ending for the main leads 🫠 .
The photo, the colors and the CGI of the serie was so good and pretty but i dont liked very much the customes, atleast not all i have seen on the main leads maybe...a 50/50? 😬.
So in the end it was good to watch, easy to watch.
For me the right rating for this drama is not a overrated 8.8 or almost a 9 but a honest and not beyond 7.5/8 🫣.
