Kim You-jung Deserved a Better Story

I watched Dear X because I’ve become a fan of Kim You-jung after My Demon and 20th Century Girl. She didn’t disappoint. In fact, this is probably the best I’ve seen her. She convincingly portrays a manipulative, narcissistic and genuinely unsettling character without ever softening her edges to make her more likeable. It’s a fearless performance.

The drama itself is a different story.

The opening arc is excellent. I don’t usually enjoy school settings, but this was easily my favourite part of the series. The relationship with Jae-oh and the baseball storyline gave the drama emotional weight, and it reminded me at times of a lighter version of The Glory.

Unfortunately, it steadily loses momentum after that. Once the story shifts into Ah-jin’s acting career and her relationship with her actor boyfriend, I found myself much less invested. This became one of the rare K-dramas where I reached the end of an episode without immediately wanting to start the next one.

The finale was where the story really lost me. Character motivations that had felt consistent for most of the series suddenly became difficult to believe, and the tragic ending felt more interested in shocking the audience than earning its emotional payoff.

Despite all that, I’m still glad I watched it. Kim You-jung’s performance alone makes it worth seeing if you’re a fan of hers, even if I don’t think the writing ever reaches the same standard.

I guess director forgot to add the ending

Lately, many Chinese BLs are problematic, but this one wasn't. First of all, I wanna say, how can everyone be gay, including the homophobic father?? It was unrealistic.
The first half of the series was good, but the last episodes were frustrating. The story might be cliché, but it was catchy. If they had handled the story well, it would be one of my favorite Chinese BLs. Because the actors of the main couple were really good. I liked their acting skills. However, I can't say the same thing about the second and third couples. They couldn't convey the emotions to me.
After all this, I recommend you watch this drama. It kinda feels safe, and the actors deserve to be seen.

feelings

The best MuTeLuv!

This is definitely my favorite out of the MuTeLuv series. I loved the storyline of the cult two cults a lot. I liked Ploy as a character a lot! I kind of love that we got to see her start the second cult with Phu as well. I feel like stories like these never have the mc join the bad guy, so I loved that she did and we got to see that. I figured she'd leave the cult eventually, but I liked that we got to see her in it and fight for it for a bit. Phu was a pretty interesting character to me. I liked seeing how his character changed throughout the episodes. I loved getting to see Prem play a cult leader I can't lie, it was so fun! I loved Wutkrai as well. I liked the twist that he wasn't part of the cult and was actually undercover. I wish they explained a bit more about his powers because I think they were cool. I loved his character a lot and knew he'd fall for Ploy. Father was so goofy as well which made it really fun to watch him. This series was just really fun, and I thought the writing was pretty decent as well for how short the series is. My favorite of these miniseries so far!!

What a master piece!!!

It's best modern cdrama in 2026 ! I didn't have so much expectations bcoz i didn't watched any work of zhou keyu, now i watched this his acting is really good not iam saying top notch but look at his age he is only 24 and he is really good for that ,and I felt he is truly handsome in this ✋🤏.and bao shengnan also played really well actually her work i watched before was generation to generation it was really bland not bcoz of their acting but the story itself is boring ,so I also didn't have hope for her but some reels hooked me and i started watching it and the desition was not wrong.

Iam not giving you any spoilers bcoz you should watch it then only you can know it ,and if you are pending it bcoz of the negative comments,no don't do it it's really good ,like it was an mixed things have happiness, yearning, emotional times, but his love for her so visible even in his eyes and she also you only understand her true feelings at last not judge at middle episodes.iam not saying anymore.iam about reluctant for leaving this drama.😮‍💨💔

Bye bye lixixiao ,zhou wan...

When Delusions of Grandeur Get out of Hand

This drama is an excellent example of a simple story plot elevated by actor performances and chemistry. All aspects of the drama reflect the care and attention it deserves. Terrific performances by the leads and supporting characters. The descent into madness was completely believable too. This helps sets the bar for micro-drama production. It doesn't have great re-watch value but the time flies when I sat down and watched it episode after episode.

Overall loved it.

This drama was a fun ride.

The only grip that I have with the show is this. If you are looking for a romance, go find another drama. The revenge plot is the main focus. The semblance of a romance made me a bit uncomfortable, like WTF. Kang Yong-ho, who is in Hwang Jun-hyeon's body, teams up with his youngest daughter, Kang Bang Geul. Bang Geul crushes on Hwang Jun-hyeon. But the problem is that she is crushing on her dad. I don't care if she never found out about the swap. Most of the development, the chemistry was between father and daughter. This kind of incest was not on my bingo card. Luckily there was a two year time skip where the actual Jun-hyeon started dating Bang Geul, but still. Yikes.

Legalzinha?

Story saved by the Amazing Chemistry of our two leads.

I binged-watched this drama for three days. Lol. I agree with some reviews I read that the story, especially the ending, felt rushed. It looks like cutting the total episodes contributed a lot to it. There are times when I feel too confused about what was happening, or an issue has suddenly been resolved without fully showing how it was solved. The editing was also a bit off, since there were scenes that were suddenly cut and then changed to another scenario.

The winning formula for this drama, definitely, is the chemistry between the two leads. I have watched tons of Cdramas, and I can tell, this pairing is rare. Not all characters can make you feel the sincerity that Bao Bao and Daniel Zhou did for this one. Story aside, they really make you believe that they are in love. The kiss scenes really feel like they are together, and not just for show. Their expressions, when both proposed to each other, the way he goes to her every time. This is the main thing that made the drama linger, even after the credits rolled.

I used to wonder why Lu XiXao clung to Zhou Wan, even after 10 years. From the outside, a 10-year hyper-fixation can sometimes feel like a stretch in dramas, but when you view it through the lens of profound grief and isolation, it makes total sense. Zhou Wan wasn't just a romance; she was his lifeline and the only person who could break through his deep-seated loneliness after his mother passed away. When someone brings you back to life like that, time and distance don't change the baseline connection, no matter how hurt he is.

I pray the gods hear us and pair them up again soon—ideally with a production team that gives them the full, uncut episode count they deserve next time!

Painfully Ordinary and Boring Characters and Story

What I liked:

Freen and Becky were truly excellent. Honestly, it is only because of these two that Lom and Blew had any sense of depth at all. In reality, Lom and Blew barely have any emotional buildup, but Freen and Becky’s acting ability and chemistry are so strong that they somehow create the illusion that there is something special between Lom and Blew.

There is really no other way to say it: Freen and Becky, who stand at the very top of the Thai GL world and can even be called its queens, are wonderful actresses.

The visuals were also relatively beautiful. The Air does not reach the level of the stunning, colorful, and memorable visuals seen in works such as URANUS2324 or Love Design, which were handled by VelCurve Studio, but it did not feel completely flat either. There was at least a certain degree of visual beauty.

What I disliked:

A heavy premise with only shallow weight

The biggest problem I felt was that, despite dealing with heavy themes, the story barely makes Lom and Blew carry any of that weight. I felt the same thing with The Earth 4 Elements, but this author, or whoever is writing the script, seems to have a tendency to avoid making the story too seriously dramatic.

For example, in The Earth 4 Elements, Din proposes a fake marriage in order to help Rose. That setup could have made Rose feel guilty about the possibility of putting Din in danger, and also about taking away something as special as marriage, an important milestone in life, even if it was only a fake marriage. Through that, Din and Rose could have come to understand each other better, reaffirmed their bond, and given the story more depth. However, this author, or whoever is coming up with the script, almost never depicts that kind of inner emotional weight within the characters.

That tendency is extremely obvious in The Air 4 Elements as well. Lom could have been shown carrying the pressure and tension of knowing that one wrong decision might get Blew killed. Blew could have been shown feeling panic, frustration, and anxiety over being at the mercy of an impostor who looks exactly like her, being pushed around and used for that impostor’s convenience. But the story almost completely avoids depicting the key conflicts, fears, and foolishness that should define these characters.

Even if those conflicts, fears, and foolishness had been depicted in the series, they would still feel extremely weak, or almost as if they were not there at all, because there is almost no real buildup behind them.

So even when Lom and Blew are given a nice romantic atmosphere, all I can think is, “Did these two ever really clash with each other face-to-face? Why are they suddenly getting closer?”

The weak portrayal of the setting

In Episode 1, Lom is introduced as an elite expert who has solved many difficult cases, but the evidence for that is far too weak.

During the hostage rescue in Episode 1, Lom is supposed to be the leader, yet she is sitting in what looks like a parking lot near where the hostage is being held, chewing gum while waiting for her teammates. Normally, a leader like that would be demoted immediately. On top of that, she even acts alone. If she is the leader, she should be with her team until the very end, confirming the final details of the operation and staying with them while they suppress the enemy.

The combat scene is also hard to accept. When facing an armed enemy who is holding a hostage, Lom gets close to the enemy, puts down her own weapon, and suddenly turns it into close-quarters combat. That is just too unrealistic. What would she have done if the hostage had been shot and killed? How would this woman take responsibility for that?

I think the director and scriptwriters wanted to portray Lom as a very strong, reliable leader, but she only looks like an idiot.

The series lacks scenes that make me think, “Yes, this person really is strong, smart, a leader, and an expert.”

There is almost no tension

First of all, Lom and Blew have way too many allies. Din’s group, Nam’s group, and Fai’s group were completely unnecessary. Yes, it would feel strange if those three sisters did not come to help, but the story could have given any number of reasons why they were unable to help or unable to go to them. If those reasons had been presented properly, the audience could have accepted it.

This series should have been portrayed as an extreme road-movie escape drama centered on Lom and Blew. It would have been far better if, through that harsh escape, Lom and Blew came to understand themselves and each other, deepening their bond along the way.

But in reality, there are safe stopping points prepared for them along the route, and the three sisters and other people keep helping them whenever something happens. Because of that, even when the series tries to create tension, I can only think, “Well, they’ll probably be fine.”

Conclusion

The Air 4 Elements ended up showing exactly the issues I had been worried about since The Earth 4 Elements.

Both stories deal with heavy themes. The Earth 4 Elements deals with human trafficking, a plan to take over a farm, and a fake marriage. The Air 4 Elements deals with an assassination plot against a princess and a life-or-death bodyguard suspense story. And yet, both of them have stories and characters that feel strangely light and weightless.

The basic premises of both The Earth 4 Elements and The Air 4 Elements are actually very good. That is why it is so disappointing to see them turn out like this.

Freen and Becky, alongside the production team and everyone involved, were among the people who created the absolute masterpiece Gap: The Series. But after that, works such as The Loyal Pin and URANUS2324 were boring and dull. The fact that GL projects like that have continued honestly makes me feel bad for Freen and Becky.

Freen and Becky are incredibly talented and wonderful actresses, which makes this feel like such a waste.

Heartwarmingly real

I'm so glad I picked this up from my plan-to-watch list.
'Chosen Home' is truly an admirable series exploring the lives and stories beyond main characters Hotaru, Sakuta and Hatano. Fondness grows with every episode, and you find yourself quietly cheering on each character in their determination.

As a sucker for social-realist dramas, it's great to see the themes of family, individuality, and much so, discussion of societal norms/LGBTQ rights being woven into the seams of this wonderful series. It's grounded and well aware of Japan's reality.
In the warmth of love, scenery and characters' depictions, the series also holds an introspectivity that's special to Japanese dramas.

Fair to say I really loved witnessing the journeys made throughout, and I hope those considering watching will too.
