Don't Let the First Impression Keep You from Enjoying Overdo

I honestly don't understand why Overdo is receiving so much negative feedback.

Is it because of the AI-generated intro? The visuals? If those aren't your preference, that's completely fair—but why let those things overshadow the drama itself?

For me, the most important part of any drama is the story, the acting, and the emotions it delivers. Overdo has an engaging storyline that keeps you invested, and both lead actors gave their all to bring their characters to life. Their chemistry, emotional performances, and character development are what made me stay.

I've seen comments saying the CGI, editing, and production quality aren't perfect. Others feel the pacing is slow or that the AI opening is distracting. Those are valid opinions, but they don't automatically make the entire drama bad.

Sometimes it feels like people judge a drama after watching only a few minutes instead of giving the story a chance to unfold. Every production has strengths and weaknesses, but the heart of Overdo lies in its characters and the journey they take.

At the end, not every drama has to be a blockbuster with a huge budget to be enjoyable. If a story can make you laugh, cry, feel anxious, or root for the characters, then it has already done something right.

For me, Overdo deserves to be appreciated for its story and the hard work of the cast and crew—not dismissed because of an AI intro or a few visual imperfections. ❤️

MONSTA X was built through pain : NO.MERCY was really no mercy!

I started this survival show, thinking I did not know much about MONSTA X...However, I was surprised on how much I knew about the line up of the debut group. Names recognition is real and those guys have quite an incredible extensive career that made it impossible to go fully blind into it. Having said that, I still felt a lot of excitement and (let's face it) nostalgia (because of how outdated the fashion style from that time period now feel) watching this show.

The competition was very intense from start with a strong rivalry between the trainees. They were all from the same agency (Starship), so I did not expect the atmosphere to feel so cut-throat...The average age of the trainees was a bit older than some of the other survival show that I saw, giving a general more mature feeling to the show. The judges were mostly artists part of the same agency or producers working regularly with them, some really taking their role to heart and some seeming to be though for the sake of creating angsty situations.

The songs and stages felt also quite gritty and underground, with every participants fighting hard for their spots with the production team constantly pushing some rough tricks on them. I liked the imperfections of the performances, it felt real at showcasing the skills of the participants without overproducing it. Pacing was also pretty good with not a lot of filler, quite straight to the point.

I would recommend this to people that enjoy survival show and / or want to learn more about MONSTA X and how the group was build up. It clearly belongs to the category of "agency-led" survival show, featuring a reduced number of trainees from Starship. It has a more mature vibe than some shows promoting youth / fresh style, here it is more dark / rap / sexy performances. It is also such a nostalgia throwback of the 2014 era, with the make up and styling from this time period. Despite usually preferring to go blind and surprisingly knowing much more than expected in terms of names recognition, I am definitely happy to have watched it to learn more about the group as I knew very little about MONSTA X lore as well as the specific faces, talents, personalities of most of the members. There were also some very good performances with very creative concepts, making it worth the watch.

how scared human is

I thought this was going to be an illogical, chase-heavy survival series set in the astral world. Turns out, the theories of political malice and how much more evil humans can be in that world still make the intrigue incredibly fascinating.

The characters make sense too; even though the female lead doesn't look scared at all, the empathy between both characters matches the 'romance blocked by genre' vibe.

Honestly, the only characters who are genuinely good are Gu-cheon and Saeng-gang—everyone else is just evil, especially the King, who is actually the most wicked character of all. That's why being a king requires such immense energy; proof of that is how the throne, which was won with so much difficulty, is already occupied by the ghosts of former kings and princes with massive ambitions wanting to take it back, haha. The sheer ambition of humans that carries over even after they become spirits is truly mind-blowing.

The key takeaway here is that humans can be far more terrifying than any ghost, monster, or spirit

TW: Sexual Assault

This could've been a good drama, there's something here about teen sexuality and the autonomy of women potrayed without shame that had potential, but any remotely well-written plot is buried under the sexualization of underage actors, the sexual assault of women either played for laughs or as a normal rite of passage, the homophobic stereotype of gay men, and of course the normalization of relationships between teenagers and adults that is sadly so common in pop culture. The late Nakayama Miho is predictably very charming, but my heart breaks thinking about how she filmed all these inappropriate scenes when she was only 15 years old, it's shameful how no matter the country or culture child actors are always taken advantage of.

After long time vibe of 16 to 20 dramas

After a long time, I finally watched a drama that reminded me of the K-dramas I used to watch from 2016 to 2020. Most newer dramas don't have that same vibe, but this one brought it back. It may not have that feeling as strongly as those dramas, but it still has a similar atmosphere, and I really enjoyed it.

One thing I liked was that it was short and sweet. It never felt boring or dragged out, and I could watch it without stopping. The story kept me interested, and it also feels like they're setting things up for a second season.

As for the acting, I don't have much to say because the cast is full of talented and well-known actors. Everyone delivered solid performances.

One thing that really surprised me was Kwak Dong-yeon. Whenever Go Ji-hyun had fight scenes, I was reminded of Kwak Dong-yeon's role as the royal guard in Love in the Moonlight. Then I realized that he was actually the villain in this drama, which was completely unexpected.

Overall, this isn't a 10/10 drama for me, but it's definitely an enjoyable and easy watch. If you're looking for a drama with the vibe of K-dramas from 2016 to 2020, a good cast, and a story that keeps you watching, this one is worth checking out.

O diferencial é como retrata as mulheres

O que eu mais gostei nesse dorama é que, diferente da maioria dos outros, o destaque na escola com as melhores notas não é do protagonista masculino, mas sim a protagonista feminina, e isso faz toda a diferença. Foge do clichê. Outra coisa fundamental de criativo e inédito nessa história é que o cara não segura a garota que gosta, ela não desiste dos seus sonhos por ele, pelo contrário, é incentivada por ele a fazer o que tem vontade, e ele que corre atrás de alcançá-la. E isso é bonito demais de ser mostrado em uma série. À parte desses diferenciais, achei o ritmo da história lento demais, dá pra ver que foi de propósito para contar uma história de lembranças e nostalgia, mas perdeu um pouco do encanto ao focar demais na fase do colegial do casal e acelerar todo o resto do começo da vida adulta deles. No fim, quase não teve aquilo que mais gostamos de ver: romance. Aquela coisa do flerte, da conquista aos poucos, foi tudo muito tímido e atropelado demais no final. Realmente, comparado ao clássico “Amor Oculto”, essa série tem bem menos brilho. Achei que o protagonista homem tava atuando meio ruim, nas cenas de tristeza mal saía uma lágrima.

Loving the uniqueness!

Update: I’m just finished episode 6, and I am finding it more difficult to get through each episode. I’ve adjusted my overall rating accordingly. But it is still very early in the show, and things could pick up again!

I wasn’t planning to start Overdo until more episodes had dropped, but I saw so many negative reviews that I became too curious to wait. I’ve only watched the first three episodes, but so far, I absolutely love it.

I love that it doesn’t look, feel, or unfold like many other C-dramas. This is my first Republican-era drama, and I’m fascinated by the costumes, the visual style, and the presence of the characters.

It also doesn’t drag or feel slow to me. Things are moving, and we’re constantly receiving new information. The story begins in the present day, then moves back to three years earlier for a few minutes before returning to the present. Nuggets of backstory are woven throughout each episode, gradually revealing more about the characters and what happened between them. I keep wanting to uncover the next piece.

I’m still very early in the drama, and even if I had finished all five currently available episodes, I would consider it too soon to make any final judgment. But at episode three, I’m completely sold.

People naturally react to dramas very differently, and that’s part of what makes discussing them so enjoyable. I’m used to seeing disagreement over whether a drama was wonderful, disappointing, or somewhere in between. What surprises me here is just how extreme the divide seems to be. Right now, people appear to either love Overdo or hate it, with very little middle ground.

As for me, three episodes in: I love it.

The Slow Burn That Turned Me Into Their Biggest Cheerleader

This show will definitely tug at your heartstrings. ദ്ദി◝ ⩊ ◜.ᐟ

A rollercoaster ride of emotions is the best way I can describe my experience watching Flourished Peony.

The beginning is emotionally heavy and had me in tears. Watching Mu Dan endure hardship before finally finding her place made every small victory feel earned. As the story progressed, it gradually became lighter, and before I knew it, I was binge-watching episode after episode.

One of my favorite things about this drama is its pacing. Although the romance is a slow burn, it never felt dragged to me. Every stage of the story served a purpose, allowing the characters and their relationships to grow naturally.

The comedy deserves a special mention because it genuinely surprised me. The humor isn't loud or over-the-top. Instead, it's built around witty dialogue, clever banter, and the personalities of the characters. Jiang Chang Yang and Mu Dan constantly tease, bargain, and throw playful insults at each other, and I found myself laughing far more than I expected. Some jokes probably only work after you've spent enough time with these characters. I would explain a funny scene to my sister only to get a completely blank stare, while I was still laughing because I knew exactly why it was hilarious.

The characters are undoubtedly the heart of the drama.

The relationship between Jiang Chang Yang and Mu Dan became one of my favorite historical drama pairings. Their dynamic reminded me of both Gu Jiusi and Liu Yuru from Destined, and Gu Tingye and Sheng Minglan from The Story of Minglan. It's a relationship built on mutual partnership, trust, and a mischievous affection for one another.

Their chemistry isn't created through dramatic confessions but through countless small moments. Every scene they shared felt impossible to skip because the chemistry practically jumped off the screen.

One of my favorite details was how Jiang Chang Yang looked at Mu Dan.

At first, his smile carried the curiosity of someone who had met an unusually interesting woman. But as the story progressed, his gaze gradually changed. It became softer and more understanding, as though he no longer saw just an intriguing person, but someone he had truly come to know. I loved that the drama trusted subtle acting to tell that emotional journey.

I also appreciated that Jiang Chang Yang never tried to overshadow Mu Dan. Instead of constantly rescuing her, he respected her abilities, rooted for her success, and stepped in only when she genuinely needed help. Rather than trying to lead her life, he became the person quietly standing beside her.

Liu Chang was another character who stood out to me. He perfectly represents the idea that villains are made, not born. He wasn't simply evil from the beginning. His upbringing shaped him, his parents constantly pushed him toward the wrong path, Prince Ning exploited his weaknesses, and the Princess enabled the worst parts of him. Time and again, he had opportunities to choose differently, but his fear, pride, and indecisiveness kept pulling him deeper into darkness. By the time he realized where that road had led him, there was no turning back. As frustrating as he was, I couldn't help feeling sorry for him.

Another highlight is the drama's central theme of women's empowerment. What I appreciated most was that the message wasn't simply spoken, it was shown. Through Mu Dan's journey and the stories of the women around her, the drama illustrates how women supported one another despite living within the limitations of their time. Their struggles felt different, but each story added another layer to the drama's message.

This is only the first part of the story, so naturally it ends by leaving several threads open. At the same time, it wraps up enough of Mu Dan's journey to make me excited for what comes next.

Overall, Flourished Peony is absolutely worth watching if you're looking for a historical drama with well-written characters, witty dialogue, a mature slow-burn romance, and a businesswoman who earns every step of her success without relying on palace intrigue to carry the story.

Slice of life, mature, wholesome cute sports drama!!

If there are people hesitating to watch this cause of Esther Yu, do not hesitate because her character in this show is nothing like her recent work. She is smart, independent mature and really the core radiance of the story. I loved her character and her relationship with all the students and Wang Fa as well. Speaking of Wang Fa, Chen Jingke did a really good job in bringing out the charisma of a soccer coach and also someone the kids can look up to in their process of development. I am glad he is getting a lot more recognition from this drama!

Wanxing and Wangfa together built such a strong team bonded with their desire to achieve their dreams and win. Of course at the start it wasn't a smooth journey but I really enjoyed the process on how Wanxing managed to ignite the ambition in her students through her psychological knowledge.

Through out the drama you can see how the kids grew into better adults and in the last few episodes both Wanxing and Wangfa felt so proud of them. Both the leads came with a back story which was handled very well. There weren't any long misunderstandings or random breakups. Wanxing and Wangfa both gave each other space and at the same time were always there to support each other.

I liked how Wangfa said "More than being my wife, I want you to be the radiant and shinning Wanxing you are". For Wanxing who has been doubting and blaming herself for years I think the writer really wrote this scene well.

The romance is slow burn but you will enjoy watching the wholesome scenes of their matches, their defeat, their victories and their hardships.

Overall, I really enjoyed this show and I hope more dramas are written this way.

Honestly i really liked it!

So as many other others, before watching the show I came here first and reading through quite a bit of the reviews A lot of people were saying that it’s not “Yakuza” enough and he’s to nice and I personally haven’t watched too many Yakuza shows so this is just my opinion, but I don’t see why that is a bad thing??? As someone who watches a lot of true crime and knows quite a bit about Japanese true crime, They are not good people… and I stay away from watching too many dramas about them because It makes me a lil uncomfortable sexualizing them So the fact that San was kind and Changed his gang for the good and stopped killing people made me like him even more cause I don’t really think I would like him to be killing innocent people left and right lol. I can agree on the fact that it is very workspace, romance and less of mafia but still I I low-key disagree with the fact that he’s too nice haha that’s what made me like him a lot and I thought the show was simple and cute, not to crazy and dramatic. I loved the yearning, jealousy overprotectiveness and just great communication lol That’s hard to come by in shows nowadays. But moral of the story I enjoyed it. It’s very soft and I think a Fun and sweet watch<3

Don't know what to make of it really!

It was an okay watch overall.

I liked the premise, I liked the cast, and I liked how it started... but where did it all go wrong?

Maybe I was expecting stronger supernatural elements or a tighter mythology, but I kept waiting for things to come together, and they never really did. I found myself asking, "Wait... what?" more than once.

* Not enough fully developed connections between the past and the present? ✓
* Emotional stakes that never felt deep enough, especially the rebirth storyline? ✓
* Characters making decisions that left me thinking, "Wait... what?" (Like Dan Sim, was actually switched earlier?) ✓
* Almost no exploration of what it would actually be like for a time traveler to adjust to modern life? ✓
* The last few episodes had me reaching for the fast-forward button? ✓

I still really liked the leads, and the show had a strong start, but it ultimately fizzled out instead of building to a satisfying payoff.

Sinceramente, eu não estava dando muito por esse drama, mas ainda bem que resolvi começar, porque ele é simplesmente maravilhoso.

Vi algumas pessoas dizendo que a narrativa é lenta, mas acredito que quem já está acostumado com dramas chineses entende que esse é justamente um dos grandes diferenciais deles. Os C-dramas costumam desenvolver a história com calma, permitindo que a gente crie um vínculo com os personagens e com toda a história. Talvez seja por isso que muitos tenham uma quantidade tão grande de episódios. Particularmente, eu adoro isso, porque gosto de detalhes. Gosto de acompanhar a jornada de cada personagem, entender suas motivações e perceber que ninguém está ali apenas para preencher espaço. Todos têm uma história para contar, e isso torna tudo muito mais interessante!!

E não foi diferente com esse drama. Ele entregou uma carga emocional que eu não esperava. Chorei em vários episódios, principalmente porque aborda um tema extremamente importante nos dias de hoje, da nossa realidade, que é a saúde mental. Embora fale sobre esporte, romance e amizade, a verdadeira essência da história está na importância de ter pessoas que acreditam em nós. Porque não basta apenas acreditarmos em nós mesmos, nós precisamos de apoio, empatia, respeito e de pessoas que nos façam sentir vistos e valorizados. E esse drama retrata isso de uma forma muito bonita.

A história gira em torno de onze adolescentes que compartilham um sonho, mas que também enfrentam seus próprios medos, traumas e dificuldades. Cada um carrega suas dores, mas todos continuam lutando pelo que desejam, além dos protas profundamente machucados, que mesmo carregando suas próprias feridas, encontram forças para seguir em frente e ajudar outras pessoas que também precisavam se reconstruir.

O que mais me encantou foi que essa cura acontece de forma NATURAL. Nada acontece da noite para o dia. Tudo é construído aos poucos: a confiança, o respeito pelo tempo do outro, o apoio e o carinho. Eu chorei muito, me emocionei em diversos momentos e senti vários sentimentos possíveis durante o drama.

A química entre os protas é simplesmente absurda. Por mais que tenha sido algo mais leve, acho que entregaram o sentimento de uma forma muito sincera.

E outra coisa que gostei bastante foi que o drama não fica enrolando os conflitos, tudo vai fluindo e sendo resolvido. Em vários momentos eu me vi nos sentimentos dos meninos, algumas vezes pensei que tudo daria errado, mas eles sempre encontravam forças uns nos outros. As construções das amizades entre pessoas que estavam completamente quebradas, mas que conseguiram se reconstruir juntas, é LINDO. E é emocionante.

É um drama extremamente gostoso de assistir, apesar dos gatilhos. Então, se você é uma pessoa mais sensível a temas relacionados à saúde mental, talvez seja interessante assistir com cautela, na minha opinião. Mas, se consegue lidar bem com essas questões, encontrará uma história que emociona, faz refletir e deixa uma mensagem muito bonita. Que passar por momentos difíceis faz parte da vida, e o importante é não desistir e permitir que as pessoas que realmente se importam conosco façam parte da nossa caminhada. Existem pessoas dispostas a acreditar em nós, e às vezes tudo o que precisamos é dar um passo de confiança. Essa mensagem me tocou profundamente, pois sozinho, o caminho costuma ser muito mais difícil, mas, ao lado das pessoas certas, somos capazes de encontrar força para continuar, superar nossas dores e alcançar nossos objetivos.

E acho que é exatamente por isso que o título faz tanto sentido. O caminho para o sucesso, porque o verdadeiro sucesso não é apenas conquistar um sonho, mas descobrir que ninguém precisa percorrer esse caminho sozinho.

Aesthetically pleasing and that's it

Shine on me was the drama I ended 2025 with and started 2026 with. I started this because I was bored, simple as that.

The only engaging plot that pushed me to continue to watch was the storyline between the female lead and 2nd male lead. I was curious after all, because what happened between those two to make them look at each other with such sad gazes filled with pain? The more we came to find out, the more we realized that it was because of misunderstandings and an inferiority complex. It reached a point in the story that I felt so bad for the female lead because she kept getting accused and misunderstood by her friend group, that I wish she wouldn't have forgiven them easily.

The second male lead is the perfect example of needing therapy and a hesitant trash, because he was so indecisive. One part he was caring towards the female lead and protected her, the next second he decides to throw insults towards her about being lazy and being a silver spoon. It was frustrating to watch because he was projecting his insecurities onto her, and even when she decided to move on, he couldn't accept that it was really over, when he never did anything in the beginning to start a relationship with her. He was acting all high and mighty about being the real victim of his relationship with the female lead when he self-destructed it himself.

The only time the story was engaging was when they focused more on the drama of the relationships. Besides that, whenever the female lead was working at the company and talking about the job, I couldn't help but get bored.

I don't have much say about the acting, to be honest. ZJM doesn't disappoint, especially in scenes needing emotional expression, but when it comes to romance, I just really can't get engaged when she is in romantic scenes because I don't feel like she's in love, and her acting doesn't convince me much.

SWL acting isn't that noteworthy in this drama either. He plays the perfect green-flagged male lead who has a tragic incident, which is why, when he's so perfect, there are no flaws, and in turn, makes his acting boring and his character less engaging. The chemistry was fine.

LWM acting was decent; his character was cold and distant, so it worked in his favour, but when it came to crying scenes, he wasn't bad and delivered it quite well.

I still haven't finished this drama despite it already being halfway through 2026 lol, but maybe I'll finish it someday or not, but until then it's on hold for me cause i just can't finish it.
