1A Bold, Dark, and Addictive Chinese BL About Forbidden Brother-in-Law Lovers
From the very first episode, this drama makes it clear that it is not afraid to push boundaries. It blends a dark, morally complicated story with simmering romance, creating an atmosphere that is both captivating and addictive.I am always a sucker for an age difference pairing, and this cast delivers. Guan Yue, who is 32, plays XiaoFan, while Ning Jia Zhou, who is 25, plays Lu Qing, his brother in law. Their chemistry is undeniable. Every look, every conversation, and every moment of restraint is filled with tension that makes it impossible to look away.
The story is much darker than I expected. XiaoFan leaves his rural hometown and is brought into a wealthy Beijing family through an arranged marriage meant to hide a family scandal (their daughter is pregnant) and protect their reputation rather than form a real relationship. His wife is such a Bitch, even if it’s just a marriage without love, she always belittle him and show him no respect. He soon realizes he has no real place in the family and everything is only for appearances. His life becomes even more complicated when he grows close to his brother in law Lu Qing and what starts as confusion and emotional dependence slowly develops into a forbidden attraction between them. I’m always into brother in law troupe and this is perfect as they are not related by blood. As their bond deepens under unequal power dynamics and pressure from the family, XiaoFan is pulled into a relationship that changes his life in ways he never expected.
I also love how this is set in the early 1990s, with incredible attention to detail from heritage buildings, houses, cars, old TVs, couches and clothing. The absence of modern technology makes it feel like a refreshing escape and adds a strong sense of atmosphere and authenticity to the story.
The acting is one of the biggest strengths of the drama. Guan Yue portrays XiaoFan with the right balance of innocence, vulnerability, and quiet determination, while Ning Jia Zhou gives Lu Qing a calm and reserved exterior that slowly reveals deeper emotions. Together they create an intense chemistry that carries every scene.
Episode 3 raises the intensity even further. The NC scene, especially when Xiao Fan is rescued, is not just incredibly hot but also charged with emotional tension that gives the moment real weight rather than feeling gratuitous. Their kisses, set against that hauntingly erotic background music, feel like a release after a long buildup. Everything they had been holding back finally erupts through those lingering glances and desperate touches, with the moaning and heavy breathing heightening the intensity even more. It all comes together as their long-held longing finally spills over into something raw and consuming.
The music also deserves praise. It perfectly complements the dark atmosphere, enhancing both the emotional moments and the romantic tension without overwhelming the story. Combined with the strong cinematography, it creates a mood that fits the series perfectly. What I like the most is the background narrative so you can understand the plot better.
Poor Xiao Fan, his life is so hard, hopefully his brother in law will be the light in his darkest tunnel.
Overall, I would give this a 10/10. It has a unique and daring story, excellent performances, attentions to detail 1990s settings, beautiful music, and great chemistry.

Cho yong pil is a NEED , the ultimate green flag!!!!!first of all, can we talk about Cho yong pil?! A man like him is an absolute need in real life , he is the absolute standard for how a partner should be so patient, deeply loving, and completely devoted ,the romance and chemistry between samdal and yongpil was everything ,they are truly soulmates.
That iconic fight scene where the Haenyos were fighting and the children randomly got caught in the middle was absolutely hilarious! the townspeople could be incredibly noisy and in everyone's business, but that’s the charm of a small town.
The childhood friend group was amazing, and the way they along with the rest of the town fiercely protected samdal from the reporters and fake rumors was everything. It really showed the power of a real community even samdal's sisters had side stories that were so engaging and added so much warmth to the show.
Bang eun ju was getting on my nerves ,how dare she ruin someone’s life like that and feel no remorse? she was so frustrating to watch , I also kind of disliked yong-pil’s dad for a long time because he kept trying to keep them apart, but as the show went on, you realize he at least had his reasons rooted in deep grief.
This drama teaches you so much about life, love, and community. It will make you laugh, cry, and wish you could pack your bags and move to jeju Island.

Nice healing story
Nice healing story with great acting. Both leads, the male and female, transmit the feeling through their performances, especially the female lead.Several plot holes in the trama, as expected in this kind of story, but overall, the hour-long episodes pass fast, and all the episodes are easy to watch.
The happy ending for all the characters is a very good way to finish the drama.

Glad Allowed out of Cold Storage
Watched due simultaneously with First Jasmine: two offset each other well. Like other reviewers shared, didn't need the third couple/his family at all - would have preferred more dating time to replace. My first time watching Tan Jian Ci who won me over despite my initial chemistry skepticism (height/frame compared to FL). Speaking of Wang Churan I watched out of curiosity as didn't care for her toxic FL character in Fireworks of My Heart nor I Dare You story (lasted 2 episodes but did watch all FOMH as Yang Yang and BinBin fan). Despite AI face swap glad this drama funally released and wish C would end policy that is bad for cast, crew, investors, AND viewers.Was this review helpful to you?

First thai drama I ever watched
First of all, the chemistry between freen and becky (sam and mon) is unmatched ,they carry the entire show ,watching their relationship evolve from a cold boss-employee dynamic into a deep, passionate romance was so addicting. The show balances this intense romance with genuinely funny comedy, making it an easy and entertaining watch.Can we talk about the supporting cast????
I absolutely loved Yuki, Nop, Kade, Tee, and Jim ,a lot of dramas make the friends feel like background noise, but here, the way they fiercely supported sam and mon through everything was beautiful to watch, they brought so much heart, loyalty, and comic relief to the story ,they are the ultimate definition of a found family.
The only part that really dragged the show down for me was sam’s grandmother ,her constant interference, outdated mindset, and the endless drama she caused grew incredibly frustrating by the end. It felt like the story kept going in circles just because of her.
Despite the annoying grandma drama, Gap is a must-watch , between the legendary main chemistry and the amazing friend group standing by their side, it’s a beautiful, historic GL that I won't forget anytime soon.

✨Brain Cells Not Invited. Had Fun Anyway.✨
If you're looking for something to watch after an exhausting day where your brain has filed for PTO, this is it.The plot is absolutely unhinged in the most mini-dramaland way possible. At no point did I try to make sense of it, and honestly, I recommend you don’t either. Once you surrender to the chaos, it's a genuinely fun ride.
The FL is an absolute queen who refuses to let anyone bully her, and I loved her just as much here as I did in ''The Maid'', maybe more.
The ML was also a pleasant surprise. I'm so used to seeing him in costume dramas that seeing him in a modern one felt refreshing.
They have good chemistry, the flirting lands, the kisses are kissing, the skinship is skinshipping, and together they somehow create this wholesome little romance while the entire universe around them is operating on chaos.
The supporting characters are basically walking caricatures, but the drama never expects you to take them seriously, so neither did I. I also loved seeing the women team up instead of constantly fighting each other.
The BTS clips at the end of each episode were such a fun touch. Watching the actors behind the most insufferable characters laughing together is always a nice reminder that they're all just having fun.
The ending wrapped things up nicely. I could've done without the attempt to redeem? sweep under the rug? the trash husbands, but oh well.
Overall: ridiculous? Absolutely. Realistic? Not for a single second. Entertaining? Without question.

Perfect for Killing Time
Let me start off by saying that Im Ji Yeon is a national treasure and must be protected at all costs. Without her, this drama simply would’ve fallen apart. There’s an incredible intensity to her performances. It’s always a pleasure to watch her on screen. She was also the main reason I struggled to rate this series.The writing was unhinged from the very beginning, so I don’t really understand why so many other reviews mention a decline after episode 10. I’d even go as far as to say that this drama is perfect if you’re just looking to kill time. There’s always something happening, but it still follows plenty of kdrama clichés.
Overall, the rest of the cast delivered decent performances.
I’d recommend this drama to anyone who’s still experiencing withdrawal symptoms from mid-2010s kdramas.

Wasted Chemistry
This drama is the definition of great chemistry and skillful acting between the leads, which sadly goes nowhere. One thing I dislike about the "noona" genre is how writers often make the female lead immature or oblivious just to make the male lead seem more mature and a better romantic match. This drama was okay, except for the sex scenes. The male lead seemed to have some kind of rape fantasy or something. He kept forcing himself upon her when she was clearly wanting him to slow down. Her facial expressions show that she was scared or something. Was it bad acting or did the director want that? I an American so maybe it is a cultural thing. Epic.
Epic is truly the best word to describe this drama. Even the way the story starts in the dramatic landscapes of Shaanxi, you're immediately pulled into the stark rural life of Gaojiazhuang. Without giving too much away, I absolutely loved how all of these characters were written. Complicated, multifaceted, honorable, broken, human. No one is blameless, and I think this realistic writing makes these characters 1) extremely relatable and subsequently 2) people you find yourself rooting for despite their flaws. Supporting cast i.e. the parents acted so well. It's to the point where I forget these are actors playing characters...you feel like a fly on the wall watching everything unfold. In particular I think the three leads for Gao Jialin, Gao Shuangxing, and Liu Qiaozhen did an outstanding job, portraying a wide range of complex emotions across their story arcs that span decades. I particularly appreciate when a story closes in a full circle moment, which this drama absolutely achieves. I hate cheesy endings where everyone gets what they want. This is not that kind of drama. The ending is a mirror of real life and made my heart sore in the best way possible.Was this review helpful to you?
A Green-Forest-Man Dream Brought to Life
This drama is a gem for anyone yearning for the ultimate green-forest-man fantasy. Sang Yan, brought to life by Bai Jingting’s sweet and grounded performance, absolutely lives up to the hype. His warmth, patience, and unwavering loyalty make him the kind of male lead people dream about. On the other hand, it’s impossible to hate Wen Yi Fan, especially with Zhang Ruonan embodying her so perfectly as the epitome of fragile beauty. Once you understand her backstory, every hesitation and fear she carries makes sense.Honestly, this drama sells the dream: it’s the hope that every broken girl can someday find someone who makes love feel safe enough to heal. Sang Yan represents that kind of love; steady, loyal, and healing. Raised in a warm, loving family, he naturally has so much care and stability to offer. The kind of love every wounded heart hopes to find.
My only issue is the later breakup arc. Watching Sang Yan suffer all over again because of Wen Yi Fan’s trauma-driven anxiety felt like unnecessary pain for a man who had already given so much. But aside from that, the drama still gives us the full package: strong chemistry, healing romance, and a sweet ending that feels worth celebrating.

An Easy Watch
I took some time to really think about how I feel about this series. The plot is definitely not bad, but it isn’t excellent either. What I loved most was the cast’s overall vibe. Not to mention, Urumi Shizuka is a simple yet colorful protagonist who brings a lot of charm to the story.However, I think the writer dumbed her character down too much just to create weird comedic moments, and most of the time they felt out of place. I don’t think she grew as a person during the series, although she did become more confident in her role as a teacher. Overall, the cast was great. My biggest issue with the writing is that I wish some scenes had been written more realistically.
I’d recommend this drama to anyone looking for an easy watch centered around school life and its students.

First impression
I'm happy to see Seto Toshiki in yet another BL.The start is giving My Beautiful Man in the worst way possible. I really didn't enjoy that series, so seeing how similar the beginning is gave me a strange feeling. However, I can tell that the rest of the series won't be like that, so I'm looking forward to more.

Episode 1:
I generally had no expectations for this series, but that was an incredible start.
I really like both of the main leads, their dynamic and everything else.
I'm really excited for the next episodes.
Episode 2:
* I really like how Seto Toshiki looks here, they really made him look great for this series. Dark hair and glasses are a great look on him.
* I like the intro song. Japanese BLs/GLs always have great OSTs.
* I like seeing the main character navigating and learning how to act with their new dynamic. Now that he is no longer giving commands.
* Takaaki is so down bad it's insane.
* I'm really proud of Naoya, he is growing more and more with each passing episode.
Episode 3:
* Everything is pretty good, the main leads are slowly trying to navigate their new relationship while Naoya also slowly goes back to finding and being himself.
Episode 4:
* Mori-san being quite literally a father figure for Naoya is so great to see. He is so supportive and nice, what an awesome character.
* I like all of the differences between the main leads, their aesthetics, their way of talking, and everything else.
* Takaaki getting jealous over Naoya finding himself and being happy feels icky. I of course knew and expected him to be kind of possessive, but that's a bit much. I can, however, appreciate the accountability from him.
Episode 5:
* This whole episode felt like the calm before the storm.
Episode 6:
* I love seeing Takaaki and Naoya have their peaceful routine. It's nice to see them live their regular life after Naoya got back on his feet.
* Well, I guess I was right after all about the previous episode being a calm before the storm. Still, though, nothing extremely crazy has happened, so I guess that's good.

chemistry so good i forgive their red flags
this show would be over a lot faster if they cleared the air with one (1) conversation, but i forgive it because it's such a banger. they're both kind of insane for a good chunk of this but it's sufficiently justified that it didn't lose me and oh my god the CHEMISTRY.i see now that this was what love beyond dreams was trying to emulate. lingorm and mieaya have a similar dynamic: ling and mie's gazes alone are lethal (in both love and hate); earn (orm) and aran (aya) are both trying to win over an ex who's very actively pushing them away; lada (ling) and lené (mie) are both extremely harsh in their rejections. I'm pretty sure they even use the exact same set/location for the executive office.
the differences are significant though. where mie's performance is completely unhinged and way over the top, with insufficient narrative justification, ling's fury is mature and nuanced, with good reason from lada's perspective. it's a rage and hurt that bubbles beneath the surface. she's visibly fighting to keep her emotions from overwhelming her. when we see flashbacks to the abject state she was in during and after the break up (masterfully acted btw), it's apparent just how much she's holding back.
none of it would work if they weren't so cute (and hot) together ofc, but thankfully they really, really are. i'd say LenéAran are 70% heat, 30% sweet. that's flipped for LadaEarn, which is the right balance for this show. the love has got to be so strong even lada's manipulative, homophobic mother can't deny it (it is, she can't, i cried).
overall, the production values are pretty strong too, except for the lackluster OST and opening/closing credits (so far it seems only gmmtv can do this well) and the bizarre decision to use an aspect ratio change to bracket flashbacks. maybe it could have worked if they kept the widescreen aspect ratio throughout the entire flashback, but they clearly didn't want to do that because they shot all the scenes for 16:9. they also do a slow transition between the aspect ratios every time, which is distractingly languid and really misses the *flash* in flashback. weird, weird choices.
but before i end this review, i have to shout out the supporting characters: lada's friend group at the hospital are true ride or dies and i love their dynamics; earn's agent/hypewoman is an absolute delight and her beef with bow's agent is great; and lada's mother is a heinous nightmare (complimentary).

Underwhelming
I was so psyched for this series! it looked super cool, interesting story and above all SKY and Nani! omg their chemistry is so freaking good that even if the script were to be garbage they would still be good.I am unfortunately very disappointed in the final product, I mean it was good enough that I watched the entire 9 episodes in one sitting without getting bored, but it still feels like it was lacking something. I finished this last night and I wasn't interested in writing a review, I felt like I had nothing to say about it, but the more I think of it the more this disappointed feeling grows, again the leads are fantastic, the supporting cast is equally great, Krist is so amazing in this that I didn't even recognize him at first just brilliant!! the story is pretty cool, it looks great and the soundtrack is good,
but it doesn't live up to it's potential. I wanted more, more action, more horror, more lore.
The final fight didn't really feel final, the just defeated this supposedly all powerful demon in a few minutes like nothing, Pete after awakening his power seemed weaker than before, other than jumping really high and a different fight style he was the same, but somehow weaker.
The whole thing feels unfinished, incomplete just not as good as it could've been. Maybe I should watch it again, maybe there's something I missed, but, allthough I did enjoy this and found it interesting and funny, I don't think it's worth a rewatch.
