The Most Visual Pleasing Sageuk-Horror Drama (for me)
The cinematography is absolutely top-tier! It’s pure eye candy from start to finish.This drama is supposed to be horror, but the color grading honestly stole the spotlight. And it doesn't stop there—the camera composition, transitions, all the way to the VFX are just insane. Absolutely stunning. The 'good' characters have a bright color palette, while the 'evil' ones lean into dark, cool tones. Genius stuff.
They were also super smart with the time setting. You might ask, "How could it be?"
Usually, hanboks and temples in sageuk dramas feature super rich, vibrant colors. But here, since it’s set in the early Joseon period (aka super old-school, as you can tell by the queen's and concubines' hair buns), the hanbok colors are much more muted and simple. And those exact shades complement the color grading so well—HOW COOL IS THAT!?!? CMIIW though, I'm no sageuk expert.
I found myself rewinding several scenes more than once just because of how gorgeous they looked.
The transition from real footage to CGI, the entry of spirit characters, even a scene as simple as a funeral procession... the shots are insanely beautiful. Sorry if I sound dramatic, but it really is THAT good. Okay, enough about the visuals, let’s talk about the plot.
The storyline? EQUALLY TOP-NOTCH! 👏🏻 Honestly, if you've watched exorcism or sageuk dramas before, it might not shock you completely, but the combo of the plot and cinematography is just chef’s kiss. Plus, the casting is incredible. Every single actor brought their A-game.

only good if you want a high blood pressure
first they seriously need to check the cast ,for their maturity level before accepting them, a huge turn off when i watch someone acting like a kid from ep 1 until the end..too much focus on a dude who isnt serious about dating , a lot of screentime about him being immature and giving false hopes. he seriously ruined the show, i started to think eliminations could have been good to kick out people who arent serious.
the only good thing is the gl part, if you want a good gl couple go on , the show overall was boring and more time was needed, 1 week? give it a month
i highly do not recommend this, next time i will be waiting until the dating show ends before i decide to watch or not

A flawed though highly entertaining viewing experience

The drama shines brightest in its vibrant world-building, high-energy pacing, and a thoroughly entertaining premise that seamlessly blends high-stakes bootlegger tension with lighthearted humor. Visually, the production values are outstanding, presenting beautifully saturated historical aesthetics, fast-paced action sequences, and an engaging exploration of systemic corruption that elevates the plot beyond a simple romance.A major highlight of the series is the standout performance by Byeon Woo-seok, who portrays the rebellious, alcohol-loving crown prince with an effortless charm and immense charisma. He balances comedic timing with underlying emotional vulnerability, effectively stealing every single scene he occupies and establishing himself as the most compelling figure in the narrative.However, the show suffers from a critical flaw regarding its central romantic development and on-screen synergy. Despite the strong individual talents of the main cast, the female protagonist shares significantly more palpable chemistry and dynamic sparks with the second male lead rather than with the actual main lead. Not the best
This drama was just ok. Deng Kai should be in better dramas. I was disappointed. This was just a mini drama. The story line was to rushed and didn't make any sense. The most glaring issue lies in its catastrophic narrative pacing and incoherent world-building, which feel incredibly disjointed from the very first episode. Instead of naturally immersing the audience into its alternate constitutional monarchy, the series relies heavily on clunky, lazy exposition to establish the rules of this modern royal society. Because the role and systemic power of the monarchy are never clearly defined, the political intrigue feels remarkably superficial, completely lacking any real stakes, tension, or sense of authority. The script rushes carelessly through pivotal plot points, such as accelerating the central contract marriage, leaving absolutely no room for organic character development or emotional stakes. Consequently, the overarching storyline plays out like a highly predictable, poorly executed collection of overused romantic comedy tropes rather than a compelling, original drama.This narrative disaster is made all the more disappointing because the show is undeniably gorgeous on the surface, boasting high-end production values that ultimately serve as a hollow distraction. Visually, the drama offers breathtakingly lavish costumes and immovably grand, opulent palace sets that initially create the illusion of a prestigious masterpiece. However, the director completely fails to back up this glossy aesthetic with any actual substance, directorial vision, or emotional depth. Byeon Woo-seok portrays the leading male protagonist offering a lifeless, mechanical line delivery that severely undercuts the emotional nuance required for a trapped, lonely royal. On the other hand, IU leans far too heavily into a theatrical, highly stylized acting method that constantly clashes with the more grounded moments of the script. Her portrayal of the female lead reads as overly artificial and grating, making her character feel obnoxious and thoroughly exhausting rather than charmingly ambitious. Because their individual acting styles are so completely mismatched, their shared scenes entirely lack the profound romantic chemistry needed to justify why everyone in the narrative is supposedly drawn to her. Best Chinese BL in 2026
I really loved this one. It was a bit meta with the story that's being acted by the actors being presented like a story itself, but it worked very well! I really fell in love with the characters and I'm so happy they found each other.The ending was also really touching, because obviously, I don't think the industry and society is that far yet in China, but I really hope the country can get to that point eventually. I think all the BLs could help even though they're not being liscensed in the country.

This was so so soo satisfying!
I truly loved this short series! I have been waiting for it to air and when it did, I had doubts, "hmm.. what is going on.." but I love both leads and kept it going to find myself replaying each ep over and over. It's just so good and what is even better, since I've read the novel, it was true till the end. The happy ending, the well written characters, I found myself crying and laughing. I cried so much when the child died, so sad!! Then I was laughing when seventh prince was questioning Shen Xiao on knowing his sisters (Zhao Yang) place way too well lol!! It was indeed a fun ride and I enjoyed the cast, they played their part VERY well. I even had a few tears when the ex, Cui, lost it all, he deserved it but deep down he was a good guy just got corrupted by the crown prince (glad he was off my screen finally!) and I came to love the crown princess! She indeed gained my favor 100%.So don't knock this drama till you try it. You may find yourself feeling like I did and now I am sad it's over! Going to replay this for awhile! Great job, guys on the awesome job y'all did for this series. 😁♥️

Good But Not Great…
I think we are way past this point with Korean BL, but I guess I was wrong.This isn’t a bad watch, but there’s so much that the story (acting) could do better. The actors’ acting isn’t reaching me at all, and I know it’s still too early to judge what their chemistry would be like.
I don’t particularly dislike the storyline, it’s okay, but the execution is a bit mehhhh in my opinion.
If it were say, 2020 or 2021 or even 2022 and we got a KBL like this, I would have been too excited that we at least even got something, but this is 2026, and we expect better than what this is giving so far.
Should you watch it? Yeah, well, if you feel like it

it would be so good if it was good
I was really excited for this drama. The storyline is very interesting and I like to see that k-bl is branching into more dark and erotic dramas. I am a little bit disappointed in the execution though, its not bad and is reasonably enjoyable to watch but it kinda feels like I'm watching any old office drama. There is so much potential for mystery and tension with this kind of story that I think kinda fell flat. I love the premise and I have really loved similar dramas such as Beyond Evil. However the execution of the mystery and complex emotions that should be the focus point is pretty underwhelming.I've seen others praise the chemistry of the leads but I really don't feel it. Its not bad but its far from the want and tension that would be needed to properly carry this sort of story. The first kiss and the sex scene I thought were good but I don't really feel their love (or lust), like I can see the story is telling me that they like each other but I don't really see those emotions in the characters nor understand why they love each other despite everything. Not sure if this is an acting, directing, or cinematography problem but for a story with such complexities and an enemies to lovers premise the lack of intense chemistry and motivations really affects my investment in the relationship and immersion in the plot.
I give this drama a lot of props it for paving the way though, there is so much potential for stories like this from Korea and I hope to see more!

Simply Awful
the whole plot is ridiculous, specially a 41 year old man with 3 children falling in love (after only 2 years of his wife's passing!) with a 20 year-old girl!!! over 20 years difference and she's just a naive kid!!! Do NOT normalize this! whatever nice things he says to her, she gets so emotional and "no one ever said that to me" surprised?? you've never been with a guy of course no one said those nice things to you. Suspend Your Disbelief
Story:
The series has great bones. I can really tell it's from a novel because the show speeds through everything just to land on clearly defined story points. The writing was just too stupid for me.
We have serious horror themes, then it jumps to a "serious" officer doing the most unserious things. For example, he goes to the temple that's being investigated for ritual sacrifice and decides to trust one of the two main suspects. Another stupid thing: why is the "spiritual witness" the one finding evidence at the crime scene? Did they not even sift through the dirt at all?
Last thing: they investigate two victims' houses, then suddenly get the idea to investigate the rest of the victims' homes. Like... NO DUH!
The story just isn't well balanced, in my opinion. There's too much "just suspend your disbelief" mixed with horror, mystery, and emotional backstory. I couldn't get sucked in because it all felt like a mess.
Acting:
Everyone but Thub deserves their flowers! The ghost truly stole the show. Pavel and Otto had great acting chemistry. Whenever they were on screen together, I believed them. Then Thub walks on screen with his derpy smile and gives us the most unnatural performance of his life.
Music:
Very funny music. It reminded me of yodeling a little. I enjoyed it!
Overall:
To be completely honest, I only enjoyed the romance aspect, which is shocking because I'm a plot girl all the way. I just love scenes where it's only two people having a discussion about their wants and feelings. Then it cuts back to the police work, and my brain turns back on because none of it makes sense.
The white-eyed ghost was also a treat!
This version keeps your wording, humor ("Like... NO DUH!" and "derpy smile"), and opinions, while mainly fixing grammar, punctuation, and readability. It should still sound like you wrote it.
I’m giving it a 6.5 because artist put effort into this and I always consider the passion behind a project. If I was being brutally honest though I would really give a 4/10.

Very good show
So, it's not rocket science. This is a great show to watch if you just want to turn off your brain for a while and have a chuckle every so often. I would imagine most would rate it higher than I, but I had to fast forward through so much, because the fight scenes were too intense for me, and the bullying as well. And why does everything exciting have to happen at night when it's dark? The filming was so dark in places it was hard to see what was going on. I thought they could have done with a few less characters as well. So many villains!This drama was adapted from a webtoon, and I thought they did a terrific job on it. The characters were all over-the-top. The good guys hardly ever lost a fight, even when ridiculously outnumbered. Slow motion punches, people flying through the air. Heroes getting only grazed by a bullet when hundreds of rounds have been fired. Our heroes being protected from a plethora of bullets by hiding behind a wooden desk that, in the real world, bullets would pass through like butter.
So Ji Sub never disappoints. He is able to go from intensity, to fear, to despair, which just using his eyes. I found him perfect for this role.
Seo Su Min as his daughter Min Ji was excellent as well.
I especially liked seeing Choi Dae Hoon as a cool guy. He normally plays kind of a doofus, but I thought he was terrific here, practically living in his karate garb.
Yeon Hyung Ho was great too as the ex-marine. I loved how they played up how loud he was.
I was very appreciative of the humor that these guys brought to break up all the fighting.
Since it was from a webtoon, I kind of had to try to skim over some of the glaring improbabilities:
Min Ji was hit with a brick, and with the amount of blood left behind at the scene, she would have been dead. She's lying on the ground for a while, then stuffed in the back of a car, then dragged to a refrigerator container, all with multiple baddies thinking she's dead. All this happens over more than a day. She immediately wakes up once the lock her in the refrigerator, no appearance of having been wounded (other than the blood all over her) and it able to get herself out. With the amount of blood loss, and lack of food and hydration...there's no way...just sayin'.
Did the main baddie daddy die or are they saving him for the sequel that they obviously set us up for? He was stabbed outside the hospital, and they whisked him back in right away. Unless I inadvertently missed it, I would have liked to see a definite end to him. I would have liked to see more consequences for his daughter as well. The apple didn't fall far from the tree with that one!
The agent and his daughter are given new identities, yet their last name remained Kim and they just changed her name from Min Ji to Ji Min? Plus, they were still close to their two friends? Again, a perfect set-up for a sequel, but very implausible.
So, though it wasn't my cup of tea, there is no denying that it was a fun ride.

This is a standout dating show!
Watching it felt deeply personal because so many of us have experienced—or are still experiencing—similar struggles in life. While some may not relate to the contestants’ journeys in the same way, the show doesn’t rely on superficial beauty or charm. Instead, it shines a light on the raw, unfiltered humanity of everyday people.I found myself moved to tears for Yi Do, as I, too, went through a comparable experience—and I’m a man. I can’t praise Netflix enough for bringing such authenticity and sincerity to the screen, especially in a media landscape that often overlooks stories like these. I truly wish every contestant the best and hope this show gives them strength. It can’t be easy to admit you’re “eternally single” and to step into the spotlight like this.

my favorite drama. lots of love for Xu Kai. Han Ting played by Xu kai is my favorite character. All character played their role ao well so i alrwasy wated morw thano 30 time. The story is Ji Xing (Tan Song Yun) has worked diligently for a top IT firm for the past three years but struggles to stand out in a fiercely competitive corporate world. Frustrated, she decides to quit and launch her own company. She soon attracts the support of a powerful mentor and investor, CEO Han Ting (Xu Kai). With his backing, her entrepreneurial journey begins to gain momentum. As they collaborate closely, their professional relationship starts to deepen, and unexpected romantic sparks fly. This 2024 Chinese drama series was based on a novel by Jiu Yue Xi and was directed by Chen Chang.Enraged by unfair treatment at work, robot engineer Zhi Xing resigns and prepares to start his own business; Han Ting, who prepares for an AI competition with Zhi Xing during their university days, meets him as an investor.
